This is a pathetic story. Is this a country?

The family needs to sue the hospital and all the quacks that are involved in this. Licenses need to be revoked and compensation claimed.
You'd be surprised the family MAY lose big time! Some half-wit lawyer somewhere may e nudging them on out of greed.

Spinal anaesthesia has its own range of complications.

Local anaesthetic agents, like any other medication, have side effects.

Certains persons may develop idiosyncratic reactions to a supposedly safe medication.

No hospital (especially a govt hosp, i suppose) would willingly go for fake intravenous medication. Burden of proof would be on the patient to show why other patients did not get paralized from same medication, as most hospitals would stock supplies and from same source.

The patient signed a consent document.

Most importantly, the newspaper report is junk and cannot be relied on to get a sense of exactly what happened.

While technique used can be questioned, this calls for full inquiry. Findings may shock you.

Doesn't formalin have a distinctive smell anymore?

Would anyone open a vial of methylated spirit and not know it how much more formalin?

This is a wrong move. They will only understand things from a single perspective only. The world is embracing potpourri of knowledge and we shouldn’t be left behind to avoid victims of a single narrative.
It is best and preferable for medical students to be taught the basic medical sciences by people who hold both a medical degree and a medical science degree.
It does not mean holders of Medical Science qualifications only cannot teach, or are not good.
Students need the basic medical science for clinical application, and that's the advantage the former brings to bear over the latter. That counts significantly, both in terms of precisely what the student really needs to know and the relevance of what he knows to clinical practice. That is best practice for medical education elsewhere

When an anatomist teaches you the brachial plexus versus a doctor, you would know the difference.

Hello guys. Is it possible to apply for a job in another country and be selected for an interview process?
I always see adverts of jobs related to my field but have always been thinking of the possibility of being selected for an interview process.
Some questions that run through my mind is how the interview is going to hold? Who is going to pay for the Transport fare and accommodation if selected for the interview etc.
Please kindly throw more light on this if you have applied for a job outside Nigeria and you were selected.
Yes, you can get a job outside of Nigeria while in Nigeria. Interviews are usually through skype.
FamilyRe: My Wife Lied About Her Genotype by nervorum: 5:19pm On Aug 12, 2018
Aremolekunowo:
Greetings to my people of nairalanders, I met my wife around 2015 and we dated for almost a year and attended all the necessary church and family teachings.

She told me she was a single mother, and all the men that dated her before I came to her left her because of that,I promise I won't leave her for having a baby outside wedlock.

The relationship keep on growing and I told her about my AS genotype and I made it clear to her that nothing will make me marry AS lady because of sickle cell children palavar. she told me that she is genotype AA. We continue our relationship did introduction and fixed our wedding date, now a month and two weeks to our wedding we went for mandatory test in our church clinic behold she failed the genotype test it was AS, right there I told her I no dey do again, she rejected the result and claimed vehemently that she is AA. second day we did confirmatory test it was still the same thing.

Her parents called me and told me both of them were AA and there is no way their daughter can be AS gene. they later brought some previous test (fake) of her AA stuff. I was bullied by every one around to go ahead since it was just few weeks to the wedding that it was manipulations, though my spirit was not willing again but I was compelled by all to go ahead that the thing has change back to AA she also said so that it has changed back to original AA. We go ahead and marry sha. She took in immediately after nine month she gave birth to a baby boy which I named Ikechukwu though we are both Yoruba's but I love Igbo people so much because I grew up with many of them. After some months after birth, Ikechukwu begin some strange sickness we begin to take the boy in and outside hospitals, spending the little income I was getting I decided to do Genotype test for d boy my wife resist it but I went ahead behold it was SS(sickle cell)

immediately I show her the result she went on her knees begging me, I called her father and informed him about it he invites me to his place and he too was begging me that he was also AS and not AA as he claimed before; now every is begging me again that I should not break my marriage that is based on deception, I have done everything that will make her leave my house except violent she refused to go. Every one is bullying me and begging me again, now non of them have supported me in any way for the boy expensive treatment.

IK is now a year old, am not willing to have another child with her again, please my people what should I do , and what's the best way to make her leave my house for at leat 2 to 3 years? please advice your brother and son, thanks and sorry for the long epistle God bless you all.
It's your fault. You caused it, you have to deal/live with the consequences. God was merciful enough to 'open your eyes' at the right time, but you choosed to be bullied into the marriage. I honestly can't advise you to end your marriage, its up to you to decide.
Your marriage is fundamentally flawed in being built on deception and manipulation; thats evil. I doubt if God is in the relationship. Even if you choose to manage it, no guarantees it would last, cos the foundation is faulty.

For your son, there is hope. Stem cell transplant is possible and obtainable in Nigeria. If God provides for you, you should consider that early enough before the boy develops complications. Its expensive, but it would give both you and the child peace of mind. Again, you can hope and pray his condition is not severe. If you start early enough to give him good care, he would grow up a relatively healthy child. START NOW! Forget about children until you sort this issue of your wife out.

I see you about to repeat the same mistake again. Let whatever decision you take now be solely yours. Refuse to be influenced. At the end of the day, na you go deal with the consequences. Those that begged and manipulated you earlier, are now begging and feigning regret, if you allow that influence your decision, na you sabi.

You are a man, make a decision NOW! No one can do it for you. May God grant you courage to do the right thing.

And don't be deceived into marrying another wife while this one is still there. You are creating a bigger problem for yourself. You either continue with her, or disolve the marriage responsibly before you move on. Don't allow any 'man of God' to deceive you into hoping for a miracle of AA for other children if you continue with your wife.

Consider your options, count the cost and decide. With God on your side (if you know Him), you would conquer.

Lesson for others: The decision for Marriage has a life-long implication. If you allow yourself be deceived into it, or build it on falsehood, you and you alone would reap the fruits therefrom

Good morning nairalanders please treat this issue with urgency! cry

I met a girl 5 days ago, I asked her out the next day to be my gf after inviting her over for a date, she eventually agreed! I was happy, she is a beautiful chocolate skinned girl one can kill for!

So day before yesterday I invited her over to my place, she came, we got talking and then we got into a really hot romance section and we were both turned on, so I took off her clothes and all that, then I discovered she was wearing a pad and I asked her about it and she said she was seeing her period!

I said no problem let us stil do it like that o (i said to my self "this one I don manage fit one bang this babe so if I leave her go now as the thing they her body she fit come make yanga next time o" ) so I pressured her and she finally accepted so we had sex that day and she left.

Guys since then I have been having endless nightmares anytime I close my eyes! I have exactly the same dream, which is being stabbed repeatedly endless of times by unknown person in the dream!

Now I had this same nightmare this night again and this is the reason I am awake right now!

Please My people here what could be the cause of this torment in my dream and what is the solution to this? please help a brother here the dreams are so real and scarry It almost feels like I am going insane right now cry
Solution is simple but unpopular..
Fornication is SIN. You got involved in a sinful act. Go to God, confess your sins, repent genuinely and seek forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. That way, you are free. You'd be restored and set free. Every other thing, including going for deliverance, without repentence is a waste of effort, more like tossing you around like tennis ball. Neglect this 'simple' solution at your own peril, its your life!

MrBigiman:
grin grin grin

Johesu want the same salary scale with Medical Doctors. It's easy to claim entry point distinguishes them but let's look at exit point. A lab Scientist at 55yrs probably now at the highest grade does nothing but order Juniors around, yet a General Surgeon who has put his life on the line still does rigorous calls and theatre sessions at 58yrs. The stupid, insane and unbelievable new demand means that a lab scientist, Nurse and neurosurgeon at the same grade level should earn the same, despite not having the same responsibility, this is a shame, and the Country will pay for considering these Buffon's and clowns called Johesu. Nowhere in the world is this stupidity condoned. The average hourly work rate of each professional the world over can be browsed, in all cases the doctors' comes top.

My advice for Junior doctors is to run as far as ur legs can take u, this is the best time. Don't look back, doctors are hot cake and don't limit yourself to a shithole country.

Peace

Mr Bigiman.
Every doctor that knows their worth and wants to pursue a fulfilling career in clinical medicine MUST leave Nigeria. Like a JOHESUITE correctly asserted, the real doctors are abroad, only the quacks are behind struggling with JOHESU.
I wonder how some people want to be patriotic when the land and his people don't want you; Nigeria does not want you, Johesu does not want you, yet you need preaching to find your square root!

After a series of denials ( x3) of my I-140, i finally got an approval last week. Ironically, i had applied for nmc CBT and passed and currently waiting for decision letter to get uk tier-2 visa to Portsmouth (hold an offer at Portsmouth NHS). I no longer have confidence in predicting when the us plan would finally pan out.

Should i just go ahead and go to the uk and forget the US? Which is better US or UK (standard of living, career progression, family life). Should i continue with UK, move over then move to US when it finally clicks? How long from approval of I-140 petition to finally moving over to US.

Again, my spouse is a health care worker. Licensure process for them (PLAB) is faster and easier in uk than us (usmle) which is more stressful and expensive. Thgh US better for doctors after residency.

I need some counsel on what to choose. Spouse willing to move anywhere, but i'd rather she is not stressed over licensure issues.

Hello Everyone,
I am a fresh graduate from a reputable Federal Polytechnic in Nigeria, I graduated in 2017 and I am supposed to go for youth service this year (2018 Batch A Corps) which will commence soon. But I have an issue bothering me which I need a good advice on.

Last year 2017 my sister who is in USA for close to 12 years wanted me to come and hustle abroad but it's not easy for youth to go there but through schooling, so she helped me to find a good public University to do Masters, I have done the necessary processing and I have been offered an admission for the Fall Semester starting August 2018, my Visa has also been granted.

The issue on ground now is that I want to have the NYSC certificate, probably if I can runs it as a ghost Corper and get the certificate on my behalf or if an exemption can be possible.

Please I need your sincere advice. Thanks.
If really you have secured a place for masters and everything is in place, please don't look back. Run for your life!

I don't think he gave 'detailed medical assessment'
I thought he explained the scan report in 'common language', and proferred common sense counsel based on the report. He didn't examine the patient and then publish his finding in a public forum. I don't think what he did was unethical. If anything, he did well providing correct guidance.

The funny poohole is even hailing Assad and blaming the west...imagine...why is islam always raising pooheads
Brotherly, my problem with the (majority) muslim part of the world is that they cause problems for themselves, kill themselves, then blame it on others. You bring them over to your country to free them, they run you over. The world watching probably means the world is weary of them.

Assad is killing Syrians with the help of Russia, yet we blame the West for not intervening. The comity of Arab nations should help Syria.

Who blames Saudi Arabia, Iran or UAE or Qatar, who have sectarian interest in these conflicts. Saudi's bombed Yemen into the stone-age, yet we want the west to intervene, and blame them if they don't

People are weary of those from that part of the world. You give them freedom from bondage, they fight you. You dont intervene in their self-inflicted crises, they blame you.

In MY OPINION, Only God's intervention can stop the crises in Syria. But how can He. If we reject God, God rejects us in our day of trouble!

Emmahunk:
Really, women don't need to scream or create a scene at every given opportunity. I had this great experience recently. Please read;

I was hanging out with my friends yesterday evening , so we ordered for fresh fish and drinks, the next person beside us came in with his girlfriend and ordered drinks and fish too. They were drinking and holding their hands together, the lady was resting on the guys shoulder. Apparently, they were having fun. However, their joy was short lived because, before we knew it, a woman walked in with a baby not more than 4 months old. She quietly pulled up and joined the table of the two love birds.

It was a moment to behold as the young girl looked surprised and angry at the same time obviously not impressed with the fact that someone came to invade their privacy. The man on the other hand was so quiet and looked totally confused.

Then the woman called the Bar attendant "please give me a bottle of malt and Fresh fish" and they served her. At this point, her baby started crying and she fed her and continued eating obviously enjoying every moment. Not done with whatever game she was playing, she further ordered for two fresh fish (point and kill), they told her its #1500 each she said she needed two of the fish and ordered for Isi-ewu 3 full mortar, they did and packaged all for her.

Finally with a wry smile playing on her beautiful but sweaty face, she now ordered for 7 cans of malt which they also gave her.

All these while, the man was kind of scared for the woman not to create a Scene at the joint, while the girl he came with was no longer comfortable.
Satisfied, the woman now stood up to leave with her loot and no one would have been the wiser if the bar the man had not walked up to her and said , "Please madam your money"

That was when the bubble bursted as she blurted out "My husband here will pay". She quietly dropped her baby on the man's laps and went off with her Goodies.
The silence that followed was breathtaking.

Surprisingly, immediately the woman, several other men quickly paid their bills and left as if expecting their own wives to turn up too.

Men! Abeg, who do us this thing?
Not all men sir; there are a few remnant. The fear of God makes one wise!

She just showed me the picture below, asking me the drug that is, that she has been seeing it in her BF's house.

Of course you know what that is..
Tenofovir/Lamivudine/Efavirenz combination (atripla). It is a firstlime ARV for PLHIV.

Nothing to panic about. Your friend should do the following if he/she has slept with the person (even if for only once):

Go to hosp to get tested:

A. If result is negative:

1.Commence ARVs for complete 30days and stop

2. then repeat test after 30 days on ARV

3. If still negative, repeat test again after 3 months.

4.If still negative, then he/she has not been infected.

5.Remain 'chaste' from that point (if they are unmarried, i suppose so) and desist from high risk behaviour

6. Get tested and treated for STi (HIV and STi mostly go together)

7.Get tested for hepatitis B and C

B. If result is positive (at any point):

1. Check in to the nearest HIV-care supported hospital to IMMEDIATELY enrol for care. The earlier, the better.

2. Practice secondary chastity if unmarried, because exposing yourself to risky behaviour may get you infected with a strain different from the one he/she has acquired, further worsening prognosis.

3.Get tested for hepatitis B and C

BOTTOMLINE: ABSTAIN from sex if unmarried
Be mutually FAITHFUL if married
Continue on medication if infected
