Romance / Re: In Defense Of Polygamy, And How It Benefits Women The Most by nextstep(m): 7:41pm On Aug 08, 2023
Amarisco:
1a… na. this is an urban myth. We are roughly evenly distributed
Amarisco:
I specifically wrote we are roughly even with a less than 1% difference. I then suggested that perhaps the calibre of eligible men/women are what increases the disparity. You’re just mansplaining and repackaging what I literally just said 🫤.

I think the world "calibre" is close, but perhaps "eligible" would be a less-loaded/biased word, in the sense that, while a woman is eligible for marriage by (e.g.) 21, a man in her age-group won't be until (e.g.) 26.

I think the disparity comes down to two factors:

1. In any age group you'll typically have younger women pairing with older men (can be a difference of 4-10 years). GIrls mature faster than boys because babies need to be borne earlier, and men later because they need to acquire resources to cater for their family. We see this play out in most dating choices.

2. the age pyramid (fewer number of older people at the top, and larger numbers of younger people at the bottom - see picture), practically guarantees there is a smaller pool of men for women to choose from, in pretty much any age-bracket after 20, especially if women choose up in age and status.

Then add the elegant treatment on the attrition of men due to early deaths or removal from the pool, and I'm fully convinced that there are always more women chasing fewer men, hence why polyandry is inevitable. It also means that generally, most men before 26 are "invisible" to women as far as marriage is concerned.

pansophist:

No, we are not roughly evenly distributed. It is not true and has never been true.

Ok, I will put it this way. The realities of men make an unequal availability of marriageable men compared to women. Depending on the society, a woman is pretty much available to marry at 18 years old.

It is not the same for men. For example, lots of Ukrainian widows have emerged whose husbands had died in the war, over 300k Ukrainian men died just within the last 17 months of this ongoing war.

And that's just war. Prisons, work death, low-value men, etc are all in the mix of the few available men, so how will all these women get married? In the West, they can just adopt and depend on social benefits, but the west is less than 15% of the global population.

So no, societal stability is burdened on men, and in many cases, men's lives are sacrificed for it. So there will always be a surplus of more women than men who wants to marry.

It is from this angle that Islam for example permitted polygamy, not for evanescent reasons.

My question is: "why can't she take care of her husband with the education and skills she learned"?

I mean this is supposed to be a time of gender parity, and we all went to the same schools, and have similar opportunities in life. She should silently bear the burden of being a breadwinner, just as men have been doing for centuries. Afterall she even has free babysitter in the form of husband and his mother grin

.....they can divert to our national grid. What business do we have exporting electricity?

It's an agreement we made so Niger won't dam the river upstream of us for their own hydro plant. We had enough capacity from Kainji back in the 70's; trouble is we didn't plan for the explosive growth in population and demand, and waste a lot on an inefficient grid.

see: https://dailytrust.com/presidency-why-nigeria-exports-electricity-to-benin-togo-niger/

If there's a treaty in place, then Nigeria is in violation of those agreements, coup notwithstanding, and will encourage Niger to accelerate their plans for a dam.

This man is talking of committing war crimes here. For what it's worth, there was a blockade, and millions of people died of starvation, so I'm not sure what his point is.

You do realize that people have a fundamental right to self-determination. The US was founded by rebels who felt being under the United Kingdom was not working for them... it cannot be right to starve civilians because they said: "we no want again"
Romance / Re: Why Is Cheating Considered Normal For Men? by nextstep(m): 11:33pm On Aug 01, 2023
AlphaHakimi:
I think Christianity brought about cheating. Cheating is a term used to describe having sexual relationship outside of a defined union.

Naturally, women prefer sexual exclusivity with a man who is capable of taking care of her financially. They don't practice sexuall exclusivity with poor man. On the other hand, poor men practice sexual exclusivity while rich men don't like sexual exclusivity. It is evidently clear by this analysis that women originated the term cheating.

If I'm broke as a man, my women would prefer to sleep around with men who are more financially stable than I'm, then what gives her the right to prevent me from sleeping with more women when/if I have the means to do that?

This is nature, there is nothing like cheating. Women call it cheating because they don't want men to practice polygamy. In reality, every man wants polygamy, it is the women folk who want monogamy because they want to monopolies the resources a man has all to themselves.

Here is the analogy, A woman would want a man who is worth 100 million dollars because she knows the whole money would be spent on her and that translates to a good life. On the other hand, if a man is worth 100 million dollars and he has 4 wives, automatically, each wife may only be entitled to 25 million dollars and that is less that what each of them would get if they are the sole wife. Separate a man from his wealth and women would care less how many concubines or wives the man decides to marry.

Shalom

This is one of the more eloquent responses on this thread that clearly explains the underlying reason for polygamy, and why it's seen in a bad light by those it doesn't favor.

I was stating that basically those with the financial means will make the rules about who can "cheat" - or be in poly-amorous relationships; and that it would be hard for most women to gain that advantage. Some character just bleated out "wrong!" in a kneejerk response, so I'm glad to see some people can still put their thoughts to words sensibly.

Correction.. Adam did not choose Eve. Rather, Adam was given no other choice but Eve, his clone. undecided

1Sharon:

If she is female, how is she his clone.

Good point... clone would be genetically the same. Alright, so maybe his word choice wasn't the best, but I get the gist.

But still, I think the problem is that our society, influenced by Judeo-Christian ideology, imposes on men a monogamy that is not natural - and we know that.

Men are biologically predisposed to be polygamous - a man can make babies with many women in a given period, and is disposed to sharing his seed. The opposite is not true (i.e. a woman can only get pregnant once in a given period), and would be more disposed to forming a bond with a single partner that can provide for that seed. You can even see this in preference: generally men look for clues of child-bearing; women look for clues of child-rearing (status in society, ability to provide/protect).

Socio-economically, a woman has been (fairly or not), seen as a dependent to transfer from her father's house to her husband's house. It is not ok for a dependent to cheat. On the other hand, a man is seen as a independent agent, able to accommodate as may dependents as his strength allows.

I will get some flogging for this line of reasoning, but the truth is: those who control the finances get to call the shots. Women as a group are unlikely to be able to devote the same amount of time and energy to advancing in their careers as men if they want to also carry and nurse multiple young. In societies where women are choosing careers, there are fewer babies being born. Not saying that's good or bad, but I'm just pointing out that - given the same mental capacity - a woman over her lifetime would have to share her time and energy in a way most men don't. And the consequence of that is ability to control finances.

First report him to soldiers. Let dem give him a very good beating
Then after, you can call the police so they take him to station for further interrogation and beating
From there, he’ll be charged to court and sent to jail

You do realize all this will cost money? Soldier, police, lawyer go all add their bills. Him papa no get shishi so what is he suing him for? Plus all the societal castigation the son would (unfairly) receive from other family members.

Sometimes I lose my cool you know. I'm planing to enroll her into a conventional school by September because she seems really smart. My question here is, how do I handle her, she can't just stay in one place and our apartment is not really safe for her to be playing outside.

Thank you

Nothing to do my brother, just play with her and continue to watch her so she doesn't hurt herself. It's hard work, plain and simple.

Hello all!

What's your opinion about women with multiple piercings? What do you think of that or them? Does it affect your opinion about such a woman? Will your opinion about a woman change if you notice she has more than the usualpiercings on the ear lobes? I have about 4 piercings on my ear lobes. I don't know if someone's opinion about me will change if they notice that. Or if those piercings will have any effect on how the person sees me.

The more the merrier my dear. Ears, nose, brows, nipple, tummy, that place, all is wonderful grin grin Just don't overdo because there's a line between cute and overdone.

What I don't like are holy-holy girls who will quote me bible about every single thing. In fact, aren't there some churches that ban any piercing?

We used to pierce a lot in Africa. Then oyinbo came and told us their God only allowed 2, and now we think it's an issue to have multiple piercings. Arabs and Indians have been piercing all over since time immemorial. Meanwhile oyinbo is starting to pierce a lot. Funny lot we are huh. grin
