Crime / Re: Judge Pardons Couple For Stealing Wheat Flour, Raises Money In Court For Them. by nextstep(m): 1:02am On May 13, 2022 |
mannasseh: I would challenge that with an extreme case: manslaughter vs murder. Both result in death, however the circumstances - provocated vs. premeditated - lead to very different punishments. A judge is empowered to consider all the relevant facts in order to establish a sentence, which can include pardon, a fine, imprisonment of various terms, with or without hard labor. As far as the person whose wheat was stolen, you have a point, and I don't have an answer. They could insist on compensation, but I doubt that company would like to look bad in people's eyes, and might be inclined to just let it slide, as a cost of business. |

Politics / Re: AIT Deletes Online Poll As Peter Obi Leads By 82% by nextstep(m): 10:38pm On May 11, 2022 |
You do realize that the vast majority of voters do not have the means to buy data and phones capable of using it. Though I think they shouldn't have pulled it, the poll only captures a small segment of Nigerian society: an echo chamber of a well-to-do middleclass. Furthermore, the respondents to the online poll are not the same that will decide at the primaries... |

My dear police woman, thank you for your selfless service. But please remember that neither your ogas at the top, nor your ogas at the station, nor the general public, will send 1k to cover medicines should you catch cold. Your CP should have ensured you have a raincoat/PE, but as you can see, they don't give a damn! Please take am easy, thank you. |
Politics / Re: Buhari’s Order: Sowore Asks Osinbajo To Resign by nextstep(m): 6:57pm On May 11, 2022 |
That sounds like rubbish. Like many have already said, Osinbajo was elected, not appointed. Taking this to its natural conclusion is that "it would be ethically correct for a first term president to resign from the job if he wants to contest for second term". Likewise a senator. Which is obvious nonsense. I don't even know who's paying Sowore any attention... did he get up to 1% of the last vote? No. 1 Like |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Extremely Hot Weather In India & Pakistan by nextstep(m): 11:23pm On May 02, 2022 |
man... all these trumpet blowers and end-of-timers... una no dey tire? Industrial activity and the burning hydrocarbons for heat, transport, work, etc, is what causing these higher temperatures, as scientists have warned - and politicians have ignored - for decades. Unfortunately, it's getting a bit late, and summers will continue to be hotter... In a few billion years, the Sun will grow huge enough to make Earth inhabitable - a natural phenomenon. Even then the trumpet won't sound, despite the wishes of our religious brethren. 2 Likes |

Celebrities / Re: Uche Edochie: My Family Is Not In Support Of Yul Edochie's Second Marriage by nextstep(m): 7:11pm On Apr 29, 2022 |
JovialJune: I'm not advocating for the highly-insensitive manner Yul went about this marriage, nor even advocating for polygamy. I'm happily married with my one, for 14 years now. However, my understanding is that real men do what they want, regardless. Don't let pûssy control you, and don't let family control you. If you want to carry another woman, because you think that's what will make you happy, go for it. If a woman is trying to bring disagreement between you and family, the woman goes. But if it's the man bringing discourse because of his choice (even if it's over a woman he wants), then that's cool too by the rules. The point is that he's the one deciding what to do, not allowing others to determine what he does, even at the risk of disappointment. |

Culture / Re: Bees Attack Mourners At Alaafin Of Oyo's Palace by nextstep(m): 9:39pm On Apr 23, 2022 |
Here's my theory: there are lots of bee hives around the palace, and all one has to do is anger them with smoke or noise, and they will swarm out. It's quite possible the whole thing is planned, in the same way masquerades are said to be ancestors... RIP Oba, you will be missed. 1 Like |
Family / Re: Can I Sue My Father For Selling Our Inheritance, His Properties Anyhow? by nextstep(m): 5:02pm On Apr 23, 2022 |
You cannot sue a person for selling what is theirs. Technically those lands are not your inheritance, because he has not bequeathed them to you (yet). Granted, your father does not want to pass on his inheritance to his children, but it is not a crime nor a breach of contract. The time, energy and expense involved in suing for whatever's left can be used more productively. Afterall, your ancestors that hustled to found the town, they did't inherit those lands... they worked hard to obtain it back in the day, based on the standards at the time. |
Politics / Re: Cost Of Nomination Form For Primaries: Texas In USA Vs Nigeria by nextstep(m): 3:59pm On Apr 22, 2022 |
jmoore: You make excellent points and I wholeheartedly agree that the prices of nomination forms are ridiculous and disenfranchise otherwise eligible young men and women from participating. However, it is highly unlikely that a politician in the US wins at the state or national level if not from either major party. There is the occasional independent candidate, but a lot of them got their first major win as a Rep or Dem, then chose to be independent. I could be wrong. This does not take from the fact that what you posted is absolutely true. And to those comparing total campaign cost, don't forget to add the cost of campaigning in Nigeria. This is in addition to the nomination form. |

Politics / Re: Bishop Matthew Kukah: Buhari Has Done A Terrible Job As President Of Nigeria by nextstep(m): 9:54pm On Apr 19, 2022 |
Why are we suddenly getting an influx of people saying "Buhari has done a terrible job", lately? Something that was already apparent by 2017. Please this is old news, and you get no points for stating the obvious. Let's know we're just going to endure till May next year, because Buhari has - as Lagbaja used to sing - "nothing for you". |
Politics / Re: Video Of Helicopter Accompanying A Train In Nigeria Causes Stir On Social Media by nextstep(m): 10:14pm On Apr 17, 2022 |
If gov't doesn't do anything, people will complain. Now they're patrolling (with helicopter), people are still complaining. You can't patrol the trains with cars because rail track often don't follow a highway. Of course they can put armed guards aboard, but they can be overwhelmed anyway. At any rate, as with anything in Nigeria, this is just for show and in a few days, there won't be fuel for the helicopter, or somebody will divert fuel funds to their pocket, or it will develop some mechanical fault. 1 Like |

I'm happy for them. Rare to see a celebrity couple stay committed to each other for so long without any drama. They are both great for each other. Some guys on here just want to marry billionaire's daughter, but hope you realize Mr. Eazi is quite successful in his own right. Nothing worse than marrying into a family where the wife (and her family) will control your every move, wealthy or not. 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Nigeria With Yahaya Bello: Is this the Best Presidential Declaration Video? by nextstep(m): 6:51pm On Apr 07, 2022 |
Well executed, with wonderful graphics. As usual in Nigerian politics, no solid outline of what he wants to do for Nigeria. Just vague and generic "for unity and prosperity", "he's our man". Maybe I'm the one not understanding us because this could be exactly the kind of vague messaging Nigerians like. All I want is a competent person, no matter from where, who has solid evidence of achievements. I'm not sure Gov Bello has demonstrated that he can deliver for Nigeria, based on what we've seen of his performance in Kogi. We've been saying "youths youths", but he has been quite disappointing. 2 Likes |
