Aren't you tired of ethnic politics? It has failed Nigerians since the 1950s. Let us all in this generation at least try to do something different from the previous generations who were born before Nigeria was an independent country.

There are some good politcians in this country irrespective of origin. Please give them a chance. I'm tired of suffering because we don't want to support competence.

If Osinbajo, or Akinwumi, or SLS were running, they would have my support. Will everybody agree with my short list? No, but I think we can see that they offer more promise for us.

Is Obi the best choice without flaws? Far from it. Is he better than most? I think so. Are there even better choices than him? Absolutely.

You're voting him simply because of your tribe. I will do same for my own tribe

Come on. Of all the candidates, he has the most promise.

Is he perfect? No. Has he demonstrated the ability that indicates he will be better for all Nigerian? Yes. Are there questions about his character? Not really; the majority of objectors are just nit picking, considering the other contenders. The consensus is he means what he says and has the mindset we need as a country.

Has Tinubu demonstrated that he can benefit all Nigerians like he improved Lagos? Yes. Do we think he will spend 8 years mostly in London like his pal? Likely. Do we think he has the mindset to move us forward? Not really, if we're to be honest. He has mentioned remarkably backwards policies for a 21st century leader. There's also a sense he will turn Nigeria into his personal fiefdom in the manner he's done with Lagos.

How about Atiku? Well there's a cloud of corruption around him that's hard to shake. Though he is an astute business man with several large concerns, the sense is he is more in the mold of typical politicians who won't really do much to improve our lives.

All of them have their strengths and weaknesses. I supported Atiku in the last elections, though it was more of a choice between two bad options. I also really wanted Osinbajo to win the primaries and would have had a tougher time choosing between him and Obi if he did. If Akinwumi (former agric minister) had put his hat in and won the primaries, he too would have been a much better choice than Tinubu in my opinion.

Given the options in front of us, I can't help but feel Obi is the leader we need
I won't mind having a leader who can seriously taclke light and has gone so far as to travel to seek knowledge on the matter to show us he is serious. Even if you dismiss it as mere campaigning, it's far more effective than going on vacation in London or Dubai

Throwback:
The day I will catch Obi telling the truth, I will send him for maintenance.

For now, let him continue working optimally with his default setting.

As for his integrity, APGA people can give you his source code.

So what was false? Though what he won was best governor in south east, not Nigeria, as claimed by the poster, can't you be happy that a governor was internationally recognized for doing something positive for his people. Just ranking him with other public officers on performance alone he is one of the best.

He got $1m and pledged to build hospitals. One detractor said it was false that one needs $1m for 10 hospitals. Does he think that hospitals end with the building carcass? No equipment, beds, consumables, oxygen tanks, gen, borehole, even grounds keeping etc.

Anti-Obi people are funny: the man is not being accused of stuffing dollars, selling drugs, corrupting customs, or any of the usual high crimes. Nobody has rooted out real estate purchased abroad with stolen funds, nor has a foreign government inducted him on real charges.

Rather his good works are being exposed and verified and set straight for the record.

One would imagine that anti-Obi people would simply respond with the verifiable good things their candidates have done, but instead it's just disbelief (stemming from self-hatred?) that a politician like Obi has done far more good than they imagine possible. Nobody is perfect, but the man is carrying first class in verifiable performance.

I doubt most Nigerians will want to pay shishi. Good riddance, let them keep their brother.

But you're right, the Cabal will use it to cash out. Could you imagine any other country paying ransom to rescue its president? Naija na cruise hands down

I repeat, you need to be arrested. You are part of the fulani kidnappers.
Tell your Fulani fellow animal to commit suicide than to go to various places killing them for their properties. You guys will soon perish by the time you step on people you shouldnt step on. Lazy cows

Imagine spitting no one owes land in 21st century as if its only Fulani that herd in the whole world, go back to history slow poke, herders were everywhere but they embraced civilization and use a peaceful means to raise their animals which is by buying food for them, not going to places to kill people and claim ownership of land. If you dont have money to buy food for then, then look for other business to do or go to school and get a job. Animal

I seldomly resort to abuse, but you are being an unreasoning animal.

You assume that I must be from North because I'm trying to explain things, and not merely agreeing with your limited worldview. Even if I was Fulani, do my statements automatically become rubbish? Says more about you than what I'm saying. You don't own land in Nigeria, you lease it. Go read the law and tell me otherwise.

You think I like the violence going on? You think I was happy when cows repeatedly trampled all over my building site and ruined parapets being cured on the ground? You think I was happy when cows trampled over my farmland? You think I'm happy when southern farmers get killed? Me sef, I've been on the receiving end of a cutlass over land matter, but we thank God for life.

No I wasn't happy, but as a reasonable human trained well, I've taken time to study the big picture, but rather than try to see the big picture as well, people like you jump to unhelpful conclusions with all the wisdom of a kid goat.

I even gave you an analogy using Lagos inwill hopes that it would help you see, but no, stubborn goat, you'd rather keep bleating than see sense.

Your so-called civilization is based on criminality. You think Native American lands from Canada to Chile were obtained with civilized talk? You think Europe - the home of constant warfare over land and resources till today was settled over tea? You think the Ibinu (sorry Benin) grabbed all that territory with polite talk?

Where were you when the Brits were stealing India and Nigeria and Kenya, claiming it as theirs?

We're busy talking about building a lasting outcome for all of West Africa. Solutions that include ranching, respecting nomadic and settler traditions , reforestation, water production to reclaim Lake Chad, well equipped and loyal armed forces, education and industry to eliminate the poverty -induced reasons for extremism and banditry.
Basically, holistic solutions based on analyses of root causes. But, nooo, all you want to do is hurl insults, insist you know it all, and continue practicing the same blind hatred, ignorance, and cultural chauvinism that led us to where we are now.
Fashion / Re: Would You Buy This 'Dirty, Destroyed Sneakers' Priced At $1850 (Photos) by nextstep(m): 6:29pm On Jul 23, 2022
If we can pay good money for a useless shiny rock that has no intrinsic value (e.g. a diamond), then we can pay for destroyed sneakers.

Diamonds are valuable only because we've bought into the scam that they are valuable. Beyond being used as a cutting tool, a diamond has no intrinsic value.

According to Nicky Oppenheimer, former chairman of the De Beers Group, “Diamonds are intrinsically worthless, except for the deep psychological need they fill.” David Prager, also of De Beers, explained the diamond paradox in greater detail: "The truth is nobody needs a diamond".

dragunov:
Well, the Fulani worldview of " your land is my land" can no longer stand the test of relevance. It's an ancient worldview that has no place in modern civilization. It will only breed what it is breeding today like it bred what it used to breed back then. War! The Hobbesian State of nature! Banditry! The failure of the Fulani to adapt to modernity and their tenacious hold to archaic ways of life will only end up being to their detriment.

Not necessarily... none of us actually "own" land in Nigeria, we lease it for 99 years from the state government. And the ultimate truth is we are all just temporary inhabitants of the land... even for our so-called ancestral land, most of us can trace our lineage to some point where "so and so settled in this land and started a farm here, then others came and it became a town." Meaning the land was not always in our family. You get.

So if generations of herders have been used to grazing on open land, but then someone decides to claim it and start farming there, or build an estate on it, what do you call that? I mean, at some point that land belonged to nobody, and the ancestor that settled it typically didn't buy it. They "owned" it by claiming it as theirs, and passing it on to their descendants.

Even me that has inherited and bought land in several places... eventually it will "belong" to someone else, also temporarily. All my sweat, blood, and struggles are just so I can temporarily claim ownership of something. Reminds me of ants, birds, lions that fight each other defending their "territory", despite the fact that given enough time, all of us fighters will have passed on.

The Fulani just took this idea of "nobody really owns the land" to its logical conclusion, because land is for the common good, and there was no point in owning it if - being nomadic - you were going to another area in 5 years.

We need to balance these two ideas, so that we can all have peace. It is meaningless to insist one way is right, just because it's what we grew up with.

Antyxx:
May your family be kidnapped and killed by your blood sucking Fulani animals

See this thrash of a human being, so the rest of Nigerians should run away from their land because some animals want to conquer the land? You must be dumb. I cant evn continue to talk to you. Im sure you are part of the kidnappers. This is why Nigeria must break, i cnt continue to be in same land with you

We try to teach critical thinking skills to people, but apparently that effort was lost on you. What I am saying - and I'll try to simplify here - is that there rational reasons for what is going on; we should understand the root of the matter and solve the problem once and for all. I hope you don't think your ancestors - nor mine for that matter - are innocents who never went to war to fight over the land that you can now claim is yours.

caye:
AND AT THE END, YOU SIMPLY SAID... NOTHING!
If you read nothing in what I post, it is not because there was nothing there... it just means you blocked your mind from understanding what was being said. There are people who, as a result of understanding the problem, build lasting solutions and societies; there are also many who just exist in what they met and are content with just reacting. I'll leave you to decide which of those two groups you might belong to.

I understand the outrage at what the man said, but think about this: the only difference between called "founding father", "freedom fighter", or "rebellious insurgent" is who won the fight. There is a war being fought that will only get worse if a lasting solution is not found. Splitting into different countries is not going to solve the issue of desertfication.

Imagine if Lagos with it's 20+ million people, suddenly had no water (eg. the way Lake Chad has dried up)... Lagosians start crying out for help, but the rest of Nigeria insisted they all stay in Lagos. After a while desperation (and unfortunately greed) sets in, and some Lagosians try surviving by grabbing water from other states since no one cared to share. Is the solution to criminalize all of Lagos, or to understand that things are better when we all try to solve the issue of no water in the first place?
Crime / Re: I Don't Kidnap, I Only Kill People – Aleru, Zamfara Bandit Chief by nextstep(m): 2:07pm On Jul 23, 2022
Nekwa nonsense.

I know the first reaction is outrage about the statement, but let's all look beyond the surface and try to understand what is going on.

Fulani are much more migratory than most other ethnic groups. For centuries, their way of life has been nomadic, going about the entire Sahel region. Just like other ethnic groups, they established empires to protect their own interests, often to the detriment of others. Before you get upset, do you think the Empires of Kano, Oyo, or Benin got so big by being nice to the people in the lands they conquered?

Nomadic populations don't view land as something to be owned by individuals; sedentary/farming populations on the other hand, don't appreciate the concept of "my land is your land". I can't say either approach is wrong or right, but that they are different, equally valid, and we all need to see things from the others' perspective.

Fulani access to land and resources are being threatened by:
- increased desertification
- insensitivity/inability of our leadership to think holistically and long term
- increased populations of Nigerians, buying what used to be grazing land and pathways
- an unwillingness to "modernize", an area where Fulani leadership has failed their people.

These conditions lead - as they have in other parts of Nigeria - to desperation, disconnection from the country, banditry, and susceptibility to religious dogma. If we continue to misunderstand the reasons for what is happening, we will not be able to treat it.

I hope readers of this post will really try to reflect on what I've written, and not just post knee jerk reactions, because frankly, the menace is being practiced by all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity.
