StrongAlphMale:
The earlier Africa is recolonize, the better for us all.

Why? Oyinbos had their own coups: USA, France, Germany, Russia, all had their own coups (er, sorry, revolutions)...

But on a serious note... the guy had overstayed his welcome.... wonder who's next? As a child of 80's it was normal thing to hear: "I, so and so, declare that we have seized ..."

Next thing will be a "transition to civilian rule", ideally with the plotters as front runners, followed by a campaign of increasing repression, then third term agenda, then mysterious death or assistance of a western power.

I used to think this continent would improve, but as I'm heading towards 50, I realize that "plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose", and this stuff ceases to bother me. Even if Africa is recolonized for 100 more years, it will still decay.

They keep funding the war at the detriment of their citizens. The democrats are losing the election next year. Spending billions while number of homelessness is on the rise

On one hand that would be true. But realize a lot of people are employed by the US military industrial complex. US has basically just handed a quarter of a billion dollars to US (and maybe some UK/EU) companies who make these things.

It *could* be spent on healthcare or affordable homes, but its not as profitable and the homeless don't have powerful lobbies.

A Democrat who doesn't support Ukraine will have to answer to their voters who view Ukraine sympathetically, so their hands are tied. The converse is nearly true for Republicans.

I’m in a serious situation. i have been dating this young widow for a while now without any issues.

But From the day I slept with her i have been noticing some things i don’t want to talk about.

Many things have been going through my mind concerning her.

From the igbo/Yoruba and all other cultures in Nigeria. What should a widow do before she start sleeping with another man? Should she returned the bride price?

Because I’m considering cutting ties with her and go for deliverance.

She should do nothing. The same church you want to go to for deliverance, does not recognize bride price or any of this crud. Woman is a widow, and released from marriage, afterall the vow does say "till death do us part".
Culture / Re: Does A Widow Need To Return Bride Price For Her To Date Another Man? by nextstep(m): 12:57pm On Aug 26, 2023
How so? Well, since we want to be treating women like property as if it's 200 years ago in Europe, riddle me this:

Man buys car, rides it for 10 years. Man dies. Should the person that sold the car in the first place get full price back before we can sell the car to another man?

If the wife is to return bride price, let the dead man's family also compensate her for all the free labor she did for her husband and his family.

XAUBulls:

He talked about getting a loan of 13M with the plan to earn 17M in 3 years and pay the loan back.

I'll have to search for the video interview online to get a hang of what really transpired with Nancy on her money and finance program.

Yes, if he can earn 17M, 3 years from now, he will have earned 4M (17-13). Unfortunately, the balance sheet, today, shows a net worth of 7M, which is what JPM was stating, and I agree.

Assuming there's no other assets, etc: if you take a 10M loan to buy a 10M business, what's your net worth? Zero. I really don't see why CBN is trying to cloud this basic answer with talk about future earnings.

Banks fail routinely because somebody was doing fancy accounting.

I normally don't like to side with oyinbo outsiders, but if I was to choose between whose numbers were more accurate, I would choose JP Morgan.

And look at this gem of tongue twisting:

“I can have $20 million in my account and I am owing someone maybe $13 million that is supposed to be paid in 2027; you can’t come in 2023 and say if I remove that $13 million, your money is $7 million or you are having $7 million.

“Now, I am not having $7 million, I am having $20 million. Because before I took a facility of $13 million, I know in the next three years, I will get $17 million so I can pay you back.

“But for you to come and tell me that no, your balance is $7 million and you can’t pay back in three years; it’s just putting it out of context.

If I have 20M in my account and am owing someone 13M, even if payable in a few years, I will still keep in mind that I have 13M outstanding. Even on a simple accounting balance sheet the 13M will show as a liability (not an asset). If I use 13M loan to build a business, then I count that business as asset, which balances out the 13M. If I just keep the 13M as case in my bank as asset, it still cancels out the liability.

Either way boo, I have 7M net assets today. My hope is that the 13M asset will grow enough or give off enough cashflow to make the loan worth it.

Unless the dear governor is implying that the person with 20M and no loan, is at the same balance as the person with 20M and 13M loan.

I wish the coup plotters didn't do this. We don't need this on the continent. And at the end of the day, somebody will run for president after "transition plan to civil rule". Pls explain how "The same grit that got you the 6M inside Nigeria, can fetch you 60M inside Nigeria".

Can you share your personal experience how you achieved something similar?

I mean, if you've been able to work and hustle and save up 6M, it shows a certain work ethic and ability.

OK, I'm an engineer by training, and I started out repairing radios, etc. If I got 10k in one week it would be my best week!
Then I started to repair phones, opened small shop to sell accessories, and money was a little better.
Stopped that and started doing solar installations for a small company, small change done dey enter.
Then partnered with a friend to sell solar equipment, as well as install, and money is growing.

Built a hostel based on solar, and now collecting money from tenants, installation, and selling equipment.

We went from 100k annual turnover 10 years ago to 50M nowadays. I don't think we'd be here if I japa'd 10 years ago. I'd probably make 50M in US, then turn around and pay all that back on taxes, rent and bills, with no room for growth. In this same Nigeria, the grit that got me 100k annually is the same that's getting me 50M... same Nigeria.

Link to hostel project: https://www.nairaland.com/2583312/building-solar-powered-hostel-learning-experience

In this same Nigeria, akara seller is making 50k daily, and a furniture maker is a millionaire in USD, and somebody has a team of people making juice. Opportunities abound - which is why many non-Nigerians come in here to make a fortune.

6million, divided by 950 per dollar is about $6315

How much is visa and the process? About $1k when all is said and done
Flight, transport, and incidentals, assuming you're issued visa: $2k
Rent pretty much anywhere, unless you're squatting: $1.5k/month

Congrats. You've just given US all your 6M just so you could squat for 2 months.
And, no, you won't make enough per month on the jobs you may be able to get if your intent is to japa on tourist visa. tongue

The same grit that got you the 6M inside Nigeria, can fetch you 60M inside Nigeria.

Pls experience elders in the house what are the benefits of polygamy when somebody has an understanding woman.
Pls is for men''

So... if two meat dey inside your soup, you will only chop one abi? grin

But seriously, some important cases from olden days:
- there was a time when the more kids, the more hands you had to help on farm
- infant and toddler mortality was high, so you needed to born more
- war/illness would make widows, and the late man's brother could become her husband (he might already have a wife)
- sometimes first wife could not have children, and would bring another woman to bear on her behalf

I don't think these are strong reasons still, so it leaves konji as the major reason for polygamy nowadays sha. Personally, I prefer all my wahala from one woman... both my grandfathers were polygamous, and I see the major cracks in the families as a result till this day. Grown people in their fifties still fighting like they were 8 years old.

Why has north been supporting the coupists I don’t understand.

Not that they support the coupists per-se, but Northern Nigeria and Southern Niger are the same family - until the Brits and French arbitrarily drew their borders. Till today, people have uncles, inlaws, and grandparents on both sides of the border, and there is a large volume of trade between Northern Nigerians and Niger. So the sanctions are affecting Northern Nigerians on many fronts.

Properties / Re: EKEDC Issued A Warning To Bring Out Wires From Conduit - Any Advice? by nextstep(m): 7:57pm On Aug 15, 2023
The wiring should not have been conduited right into the building. You typically would have junction box outside the wall, and the mains lines would go into that junction box or meter. This ensures that all the electricity to the building can be disconnected from one place (either for billing or for fire/electrical safety).

As it is, there is no (visual) guarantee that the mains wires are not split in a way that bypasses the meter or mains switch. Again, you want an easily-verifiable way to show that the house is not energized.

Advice would be to do what NEPA has asked: cut the mains, reroute first to a meter, then connect from meter back into the conduit. But I'm sure since I'm talking to a fellow Nigerian blessed with oversabi and shortcut, a few 10k will settle the matter with NEPA and the problem will not be fixed - just ignored... for now.

Nigeria is finally paying market price for fuel (the same as Ghana and other African countries), so what's the noise about again?

What did all these people do when they were paying 1/3 of the price of fuel? Technically, they should have savings from not paying market price all these decades. grin

And having working refineries (including Dangote) won't bring down the price: why should somebody sell in Lagos for cheaper when they can get market price in Accra? Especially when their refinery is financed in dollars?

Let us enjoy the collective pain jare. I didn't vote for Tinubu, but on this I stand: subsidies have to go, permanently. Anything else will just make the pain worse and shift it to our next generation.

The junta should have listened and stepped down... this is how long civil wars start... millions will die of war, famine and disease.
This is a textbook copy-paste of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Sudanese_Civil_War

It will turn into a proxy war between factions of United Nations security council: USA and friends on one side to "protect democracy" (i.e. French interests), with Russia/Wagner and China on the other "to protect freedoms" (i.e. get resources)

It's not too late for these generals to give up personal ambition and let peace reign.
Politics / Re: GICN: Tinubu Implemented Toxic Economic Policies Within 2 Months — Group by nextstep(m): 1:40am On Aug 12, 2023
Nigerians will always find means to complain. Sure the economy is hard, but didn't people go and protest against Jonathan's policies? If we had swallowed the bitter pill then, things won't have gotten so bad.

Fundamentally, Tinubu is doing what Nigeria needs. We need to undo decades of complacency, and the road will be arduous. Personally, I feel we should have redominated the naira back when Soludo proposed it, as we are headed towards $1000+ to the USD. Might as well also redom now, get rid of kobo, and let the naira float to its market level.

Crying and wailing now is not going to solve the problem... we have to see it through, and these blame reports are not helping.
