... and there are ways girls can use to collect quick money... a lot safer than drinking hypo... |
Only thing I want to hear is "it's completed and ready for traffic"... All this talk of funding sources and promises of completion is just 2019 tactics... not interested at all... should they get re-elected, we will know we are on a long thing and that bridge will remain uncompleted for another 4 years. |
It's true these exhibits were stolen, and maybe we can encourage the British Museum to indicate the methods by which they came across them. But to be honest, the British Museum is the best place for them: 1. the exhibits will be well maintained, unlike our museums here where most pieces are left undusted for years. 2. vastly larger number of people will be exposed to these artifacts, than if they came here. There were over 7 million visitors last year... our Museums can barely boast of a few hundred thousand. Yes we can get more visitors, but it involves improving airports, infrastructure and security. 3. We'd sendup spending a few 10s of millions of pounds to get these exhibits back... even if they were returned for free, we know gov't officials will inflate the cost of packing and repatriation. Let's not kid ourselves... maybe when our public institutions get their acts together and demonstrate they can preserve and exhibit artifacts as well as other places in the world, I would consider bringing them back home. I've been to museums in different parts of Nigeria, and gov't really needs to up their budget in maintaining these places. |
CaptJeffry:If that's the case, then be smart and use some Hausa men as the front for your business. |
oshe11:You got it ![]() |
Please, throwback is like a decade+ 2014 is just a little over 3 years ago (depending on when). ![]() I'm still wearing the same jeans and shirt from 3 years ago. Even rocking the same phone sef. 3 years is like last week. |
Sigh... Some people on this board drink milk (or in cereal) or yoghurt or cheese, or wara, but start insinuating something when they see people drinking fresh cow milk from the source. Now, I don't think I can suck a cow's breast directly, but different strokes for different folks, I guess. Now, some people will say, "eh hen so if you think it's ok to suck breast, you must think it's ok for them to fsck cows abi?" I didn't go so far oh. In fact, let me walk out of this thread before people start abusing me this Wednesday night. |
Cheers, and safe journey! Feel free to stay 4 months... the rats have been missing their office ![]() |
Sorry for the loss... hope you had car insura... hah hah hah ... no be Naira we dey? But I feel their loss... so painful... and the annoying thing is that a tree that has been standing for 50 years suddenly uproots! Chai! Is it erosion, or softened ground, or what? Poles I can understand if they rust or the foundation is not deep enough. But tree? Lessons learned every rainy season: do not park your car near a tree or pole. |
Wrong. The voters can say who wins elections. This is for sure, no need to invoke the supernatural. But seriously, when the words "fairness and justice" emanate from PMB's mouth, I can't help but lol. This is the one Nigerian president that can be adjudged to be the least concerned with fairness and justice, or even the appearance of such. |
Does it matter? Somebody is living her life, enjoying her career, raising her kids, and having a good time of her life, and people with microscopes are busy inspecting minutiae that doesn't add one Naira to their account. SMH |
dongc:Have you seen the number of fiber lines between UK and USA? Or Japan and USA? Each one done by different companies and consortiums over the years. I'm very proud that one private Nigerian company will soon have two self-funded fiberoptic submarine cables. The more cables, the more capacity, the better. For a country of 170+million, we need like 50 cables: several direct to Europe, South Africa, USA, Brazil, China, India, Korea, and Japan. You can't compare Sweden - a country of 9 million, less than 1/2 the population of Lagos - to Nigeria. For those laughing at Glo's cellular speeds, ... what fiber optic network do you think people using MTN use to access Facebook, WhatsApp, Nairaland, or Youtube? Glo-1 and MainOne. What about web hosting, payments processing, banks, email? Glo-1 and MainOne. Glo gets tons of revenue from all the operators that run data over their lines, even if "their own cellular network is slow". *correction* Just got a reminder about MTN's cable: dondada78: |
dongc:... and what network do you think MTN et al use to access Facebook, Nairaland, or Google servers? Glo-1 and MainOne. fiizznation:... but the executive branch is ultimately in charge of the police. So who gave these orders for a sitting senator (the legislative branch, of equal standing as the executive) to be arrested? Has he been recalled or found guilty of a felony? I don't imagine his fellow senators have that kind of influence on the NPF, so can anyone explain why and how the arrest? |
Hotzone:You're right... I'm no fan of Dino, but he has not been found guilty so how is it that the executive can send his men to arrest him? He is a senator - immune from prosecution (unless under warrant for a felony) until recalled or term expired. The executive branch is overreaching and I'm surprised that the entire Senate is letting this happen |
He'll be alright... you know how camels store energy in their humps? Well, our dear senator has enough storage to last a week ![]() |
Fake news jooor |
DearPeople:What quota system? They have opened new branches or expanded businesses in those areas and are now seeking people to staff them. Anybody from anywhere is free to apply, so far they live (or plan to live) there... |
Ikem11:I think this is the best advise for this situation. The owner should bring proof in the case of such a dispute. |
What does your written tenancy agreement say? Does it say "pay into so so so account"? or pay cash to either husband or wife? Unless a new written agreement is signed, you are not obligated to change where you pay your accounts into. Trouble is landlady might call police on you, which could complicate things if you don't agree to move out. Or just don't pay (but save it and make sure you don't spend it oh) until the issue is resolved, because you can say you don't know the owner of the house until the case is decided. |
Nice one! Very appropriate for Z! zinaunreal:Abi? Ask PMB if he did one single thing to help our entertainment industry? Mtchew |
Anambra is one the leading states in Nigeria, 4th largest economy after Lagos, Rivers and FCT
My brother no mind them jare, please keep on posting. The only thing that pains me is when will I get to build something like this. Anambra is a wonderful place that inspires awe and envy in most! See hospitality. See industries. See roads. See houses! |
What is wrong with you people?!?! Can't we just celebrate Nigeria - no matter which part? I'm seeing fine fine buildings all over Nigeria and my only issue is: "I wish I could own something like this".Go to Lagos, Ibadan, Akwa, Onitsha, Asaba, Ogbomoso, Uyo, Abuja, Sokoto, Dutse, Owerri, and so many other places, you'll see great structures, hotels, malls, factories, beautified streets, parks, and many things being done. These are huge projects, and I'm just in awe that private individuals can gather almost N1 billion to build one hotel. We need more and more and more all over the country. I want to enjoy beautiful things in my home state, as well as my friends' states. I want to go to Sokoto and enjoy what it has to offer, then go to Imo, then off to Oyo, before heading to Jigawa. Even in a small town, you'll see somebody putting up a hospital, hotel, school... massive things of beauty and pride. I'm so proud of all the people working hard, investing, and putting up enviable edifices, all over Nigeria. So many people are developing this country in spite of federal government, and in spite of the economy. Somebody cannot enjoy a thread showcasing beauty in a place (whether it's Ado-Ekiti, Ibadan, Onitsha, Owerri, Kaduna), without some people coming to wallow and pull the other down instead of celebrating progress. Why does it always have to degenerate to "brown roof", "small town" "remote village", "more developed than"...or some other rubbish? Haba! For what? Dem send u? ![]() |
judedave181:A real stupid clown who is only interested in keeping his job. I have to believe that deep down, he's not as foolish as he sounds, but he says what he says to keep his boss happy |
The usual blame game: 1. Blame the youths for not going to school: isn't it government's responsibility to ensure its citizens are well educated? All serious countries (i.e. developed economies) provide free primary and secondary education (and free or subsidized school lunch) to all citizens; it's then individual choice to pay for private school. In Nigeria, the cost of education overwhelms families, and as a result, some youths will not have access to education. 2. Blame the youths for relying on oil revenue: in more developed countries, people work, and government gets its funding from taxes. When there are no jobs, where will tax revenue come from? After Buhari and his mates destroyed Nigeria's economy from 1980s till now, they want to blame unborn people for the country's predicament? 3. Blame the youths for wanting free healthcare: is it not in US that the government spends about ONE TRILLION dollars on free healthcare for nearly 1/3 of its citizens? Similar numbers can be found for Canada, UK, Japan, Germany, etc. https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-budget/policy-basics-where-do-our-federal-tax-dollars-go https://www.kff.org/medicaid/state-indicator/total-medicaid-spending/. 4. Blame the youths for not creating jobs or building business. Apart from being false (since most youths work their ass off in the hot sun), when has government encouraged business? Is it with no light, no loans, bad infrastructure, expensive forex, no support that people can start business? This government likes to blame and blame others. When will it actually say: "we thought we could do X Y and Z, but we're actually struggling to do only X, but this is how we're going to improve"? It's been 3 years and all we hear is blame blame blame. I've never heard Buhari once praise his countrymen for any single thing in all his years. Not once. |
Blakjewelry:Well, as you know, killing is a felony (for which they can step in), and depending on the beating could be a misdemeanor. Remember all the fights that have happened in those chambers at federal and state level? See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZzYgrhTAOs and related videos for examples? Notice how even the orderly is not really empowered to interfere? Same thing happens all over the world, and youtube is full of such fights and other such misdemeanors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legislative_violence#United_States also contains amusing anecdotes. And from the UK section on that page, note: "In the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, the government and the opposition are separated by red lines drawn on the carpet. The red lines in front of the two sets of benches are two sword-lengths apart[72] (or a little more than two sword-lengths apart);[73] a Member is traditionally not allowed to cross the line during debates, supposedly because the Member might then be able to attack an individual on the opposite side. These procedures were made because the Members were allowed to carry weapons into the House in its founding days.[1]" Of course, who can forget the infamous stabbing of Julius Caesar in the Senate? In the end, "Mark Antony summoned the senate and managed to work out a compromise in which the assassins would not be punished for their acts, but all of Caesar's appointments would remain valid." Now this is an extreme case, but it goes to show that these things are part and parcel of legislatures. ![]() It's actually important to Democracy that the members are able to fight and beat each other (with and without the aid of aides) without hindrance from security agents (who are technically under the executive branch) because of separation and balance of powers. If, after the fact, there has been a felony (murder for instance), the house votes to impeach/censure, stripping said member, who can then be prosecuted as an ordinary citizen. Sadly for those aides, they are not elected members to the Senate, so they will face the full wrath of the law, unlike the Senator who instigated the whole thing. |
Always enjoy what this great actress brings to her roles. |
Blakjewelry:That would not be fair... security is tasked with preventing legislators from coming under harm from external sources (robbers, terrorists, etc), but not to stop senators and their aides from misbehaving among each other. Those members have some sort of immunity unless they commit felonies and treason while in the building or on their way to/from. In the same way security don't step in to arrest them when there's a fight/slap, etc. same way they don't step in to stop somebody from carrying off the mace. Those are internal matters. Unfortunately, security will bear the full brunt of this. |
Ladies, please record all phone calls with lecturers. Even when going to their office, turn on your smartphone recorder. As this happens more and more, lecturers will stop pressuring girls in our institutions. Of course, ladies, you have to study hard so you don't become easy prey. But even still, there are some lecturers who will try to fail somebody even if she's doing well. To those blaming the lady for failing... we can't all have good grades in all our classes. I've gotten some low marks and failed important exams in my time as a student - either because I was lazy, going through some issues, or just not understanding the material - failing a class is not a crime. What's a crime is demanding sexual or monetary favours in return for passing; there's also the fraud of falsifying a students record; these are crimes our lecturers have grown accustomed to committing every year, every semester. There are also those questioning whether she trapped him by asking - even if she did propose, it's up to him to say "no, you can try the exam again, write a paper, or do some other academic-related work to show you know the material". From the pompous way he made his demands (and mentioned another lady who was willing to yield to them), I'm not convinced she's in the wrong. Kudos to the lady jare, and to our randy lecturer who abuses his position: ntoooooooooor ![]() I hope lecturers around will take notice - times have changed and misdeeds will be brought to light and punished. |
National House of Assembly? These people are really lucky that all they came to do was take the mace. Sparkle777:Their security is porus, though it's likely the security agents already know these people and they've been seen with the Senator before, so they could walk in freely. Also, fracas among NASS members is an in-house matter and which security personnel is going to start harassing a Senator or aide (and potentially lose their jobs in the process), for a matter that will later be solved over beer and asun? |
They should also refund 2 weeks of rent... ![]() Why is it in Nigeria people are never given 1-month's or even two-week's notice? They will always ban something, close hostel, block bridge, announce holiday without giving people time to prepare. Is it everybody that can raise funds and start traveling home now? Not even tomorrow, or this weekend. They write a letter dated today, and students must be out by 6pm? Where will some people stay for two weeks suddenly? Why are they so heartless? |
