Good afternoon please. Please recommend a good car for a first timer between
Hyundai sonata and toyota camry, although I prefer hyundai because of price which is a little cheaper than toyota of same year range. And does hyundai sonata has second hand value ? My budget is 5m
Avoid 2010 to 2014 hyundai sonata and kia Optima those engines have a factory defect. So you a left with the camry

Hullabaloon:
Good evening great minds.

I'm looking to buy my first car. I practically know nothing about cars. Don't even know how to drive.

I'll be getting a Nigerian used. Budget is 3 to 3.5M

I've been seeing lots of 2008 Camry and Lexus Es 300 (2002 - 2004), and 2010 Honda withing that price range on jiji.

I work from home hence it's a car I'll barely use. Just getting it with the intention of having a ride before marrying a wife.

Should I get any of those two? Is there a better brand out there withing that price range?

What are the things I should look out for when going to get the car?

What kind of mechanic should I go with?

Pardon the plenty questions. I'm a total novice when it comes to cars. Don't even know what mileage means.
All your choices are very okay pick the accord first if you see a good unit, the 4cylinder is more reliable than that of camry and the parts are also available. Also it is solid all round and has that premium feel.

The ES is good too though a bit outdated it is still premium of your choice if you don't mind the year gap.

Can anyone help me with the following answers please.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S20 5G on eBay with Sprint network lock. It's not reading Sim cards here . Is it possible to unlock it? If yes, how much am in Lagos.

Secondly I have a Samsung Galaxy Z flip 3 5G from Verizon. They say it's CDMA unlocked. Does this mean when the phone gets to Nigeria, there will be no sim card accepted? If yes whay can be done.

Thirdly, A Samsung Galaxy S20 was shipped to me and on arrival, I try charging it but it doesn't take charge and has an error not on all chargers ..what can be the problems
You can unlock the S20 5G but it will cost you.

If the Z flip 3 is a CDMA phone you just bought crap cause no CDMA network except maybe MTN still has CDMA

Charging error could be due to the panel or debris or probably those chargers are fake. Buy an original one that works with it and sell with the original charger

Truth is I really like the 2017/18 Honda CR-V. It has everything I want. Good looks, nice interior, great gas mileage for a compact SUV. But I am still unsure about the 1.5l turbo engine and the oil dilution problem. Although I have read that the issue was mostly observed in colder climate regions. I'm thinking using the engine in Nigeria won't be much of a problem because of our weather. I'm ready to get the car now and that is the only compact SUV that is within my budget that ticks almost every box in my shopping list. More advice please.
There is no other advice than to do a VIN check first on the unit for sale then go along with a qualified technician for inspection of the unit, pay and enjoy.

Car TalkRe: Must Brand New Tyres Have Threads? by nurey(m): 11:38am On Dec 14, 2023
Labelle:
Experts in the house. Please help me clarify this, I have been arguing with my friend about brand new tyres and how its is mandatory for them to have those small threads if they are truly brand new. But my friend says it is not a must.

Please who is correct here?
First off those small things are called hairs not threads. All new tires should have it as it is excess rubbers left over during manufacture of tire.

But rethreaded tires don't have it depending on the process of rethreading the tire.

I'm seriously considering changing my es350 to a 2014 bwm 335i but the roads are not looking good. I am considering getting 2014 rx 350 but the handling of es350 is not encouraging me to get another lexus. Any recommendations on suv that has the reliability of that of rx350 and the handling of a bmw?
The RX will handle well I believe it is fitted with electronic power steering. But if you are still adamant
1. Benz ML,GLE
2. ACURA MDX
3. Hyundai palisade
4. Kia Sorento

With how expensive cars are now, it's nearly impossible for somebody to buy a car of his choice these days. I wanted to get a car around June, something came up and I had to use part of the money. Now all the cars I had on my list are now out of reach coz of the price... I was in Lagos this weekend and I was surprised to see lots of Mazda Cx-9 on Lagos roads, I checked and it's a much cheaper alternative to Highlander and Pilot. So I started thinking about going for it, particularly the 2014 CX-9. But as usual, before I do anything, I'll have to come and check for opinions from nairaland. From my research, I find that the most complained issue is the water pump which is inside the engine. Since that is the issue, so I was thinking maybe I can just replace the water pump immediately I buy it to give me some insurance. Is there no way of monitoring the water pump in order to avoid the problem? Apart from the water pump, is there any other problem with the car? Please I need your opinions. Thanks.
Mazda CX9 is just a ford edge in another clamshell. Well parts and technician are what makes people avoid them. If you can get an upgraded technician. To help with fix, you can always sort parts out.

What do you all think about Nigerian used Kia Rio 07-10, Ford focus 08...
Budget is around 1.5m just for work and back (about 45km daily)
Would be a learner car

Abi he should just go for older Corolla 01/02 or Civic 2004/05 ( though they're all dated)
The Kia Rio is good but I always prefer the imported unit with analogue temp guage, those with digital temp guage are a disaster waiting to happen because when the car is overheating the damage will already be done b4 the digital temp guage will notify you

This will likely happen in an ideal situation. If you’d do this, please consider PESTLE.

Politically, the environment isn’t secured for farmers. It’s one news of attack to killing of farmers. Government is playing to the gallery with anchor borrowers’ program, hence your value chain to yield that return is not solid.

How about the environment? Anything can happen and diseases can infest. So you have to insure.

Social, Technological, Legal and Economic environment has to be sampled well before going into the business.

My two cents.
Thanks for the advice but I am already into the business, the 5m is for expansion

Rubber farmers are concentrated in Ogun, Ondo, Edo and Delta state, if you know someone there, he should help you find out clusters where rubber farmers are, you can setup yours close to them because of the advantages in groups.

They sell land in Ogun and Ondo @200 to 250k per acre but do your research well no go buy govt reserve area or family land with wahala

Awesome, but how would you mitigate farmers/ herders clash ?
Buy land in clusters of other farmers, you rarely see herders graze where tree crops are, their canopy doesn't favour bush growth

I am saying your plan is not good and feasible. If your spend your 5m on acre and rubber plantation, How would you maintain the farmland for seven years or you think you plant rubber seeds and go to sleep? What will you be eating for 7 years until you rubber mature for harvesting? You don't know hunger can kill? Your plan is only good for those that have other money to play with not for a somebody who has do-or-die japa money
An acre is 250k In Ogun and Ondo 2.5acres makes an hectare, I am not buying land and planting rubber with all the money, with 2m land and seedlings don set. I am an advocate of start small then expand to big size.

so people are still making money from it?
Rubber is the most profitable tree crop in the world go and do your research. People only run away from it because of the maintenance stress and maturity age (7years)

By then inflation for don give am wotowoto
Inflation does not affect agriculture mind you. If I by land and plant rubber on it for 2million, in 8years time it will increase. 1hectare renting a year used to be 250k 10years ago, it's now 1.5 to 2m depending on the rubber age and clone planted

What you highlighted here will even encourage people to japa. After waiting for 7 years before you start recouping your money of about 1.5m monthly. 7 good years. Have you ever heard of time value of money.

People that japa can save up to 10 - 20m in a year. For 7 year years that is 70 - 140m. You can earn up to 10m/year for that money just by investing in government treasury bond without doing anything. This does not include any salary yo are earning
There are many investment opportunities you only pick the one you are knowledgeable about. Mine is agriculture why our people are running away to slave for white men the white men are investing in our land and resources and taking dem away to their own country

Half baked business idea here

Other factors must be considered. Farming in Nigeria is becoming one of the most risky jobs cos of Fulanis herdsmen who doubled as kidnapping Bandits.
So over 400 rubber farmers in Odigbo LGA in Ondo state are stupid or what not to talk of those in other LGAs and I haven't added Ogun state, Delta, Edo state
