Nigeria has some beautiful architecture but the finishing of its surroundings is really poor and really takes away the beauty from the area.

Why does Naija have sandy and disgusting roads like that sef... Plus on the sides of the road you'll have bush and red dirt.

And must we fence every thing? Sometimes the fences look so grimy like it's covered in soot. Fences like that make even Victoria Island look 3rd world.

Maybe one day Nigeria will discover true urban planning. Eko Atlantic is a shining leader and example.

GenBuhari:
Nigeria's constitution allows it.

This is why the NASS are resisting Nigeria writing a new constitution. They only want to amend the constitution themselves without a national conference to produce a fresh brand new and relevant constitution.

Oh btw not only senators are getting these jumbo salaries, All 360 members of house of Reps also getting similar renumerations.

They still working against the interests of the nation- look how they are slowing the passage of the annual national budget , refusing to create bill for special courts for corruption cases, money laundering bill, PIB. But creating useless and pointless bills and bills that work against the interest of the nation.

There's a bit of controversy surrounding the budget. They're spending money on useless things.. About 3/4 of the budget is spent on salaries... People are fighting against the inefficiencies found in the budget

It would be gone for good when we

1.Stop subsidy...or to put it simply, stop determining the profit of fuel marketers.(We don't do it for any other business...so why do it for fuel?)

2.Once we stop subsidies...investment is going to flow in, since investors can take their profits out of the country.

3.Privatise NNPC.

It's that simple.

I heard nnpc is one of the most corrupt organizations in Nigeria...

Guys calm down, Kenya and Nigeria are both s*holes. Just look at our GDP per capita for both countries. Corruption is rife in both countries.

One character you notice in the world is that usually more developed countries have less corruption. If you look at Africa, we have some of the highest corruption in the world. If African countries truly desire to come out of poverty and relieve itself of the stigma the world places on it, Corruption must be tackled, big time.

Independent, strong institutions.
Effective judicial system(eradication of delays, and punishment for bribery of judges)

We all know of President Buhari and his massive anti-corruption campaign, but recently it has proven to be not effective as we have increased in the ranks of corruption ratings by Transparency International (TI).

Buhari seems to be all about asset and wealth recovery and not so much about punishing the perpetrators.

Should there be a death penalty for corrupt officials?
Then what about the ordinary civilians. Corruption has infiltrated every stratum of society, from the police officer to student to the rich and poor.
They need some type of punishment as well so as to end this menace!

Does anyone have any suggestion on how Kenya and Nigeria can effectively tackle corruption?

look at this old man, you said igbo tidy lagos, lol!!! it is a pity i cant post some documents here, but let me tell you, in terms of civillization no ethnic group comes near the yorubas, when did your people started wearing cloths? your people only came to lagos when everything is done and dusted, go and read about your history that is if you have one, trust me, when we were building an empire your people were naked roaming the eastern jungles looking for bush meat to devour raw.

Igbos always wore clothes, but scanty(it covered the necessary parts). Primarily the clothes were made from raffia palm. Igbo's weren't nomadic hunters and gatherers but primarily farmers who cooked their produce.

When they say Nigeria is the giant of Africa,it's not a mockery but the bitter truth. No country in the west Africa sub region has the economic fire power that Nigeria has, whenever Nigeria sneezes in these countries they shivers. Our manpower exports to these countries is one of the propelling force to their existence, not to mention Nigeria financial assistance to them.
Nigeria will continue to play the big brother role bestowed on her by Nature

Nigeria has potential to be a global power. The truth is that corruption has stagnated this country for far too long. Nigeria should not be in the position it is today. Hopefully Nigeria can tackle corruption in the upcoming years because once Nigeria get its internal issues right, South Africa would be nothing to us.

Politics / Nigerian Govt Launches Anti-corruption App by nwoke37: 5:15am On Mar 16, 2018
The senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla, has announced launch of DoroCorruption anti-corruption application.

Obono-Obla, while speaking in Abuja during the launch of DoroCorruption, stated that lack of adequate information from the public was stalling efforts by the government to recover assets.

He said the anti-corruption fight can only succeed when Nigerians speak out and refuse to condone the act which he described as an ill-wind that would bring no good.

“My panel will investigate assets of public officers, but have you given us information on public officers who have assets that are beyond their legitimate earnings?

“We know them. Most of the buildings in Abuja are owned by directors in public service. How much are they earning? You know these people, they are your neighbours and you don’t give us information. How then do we help government fight corruption?”

“We need the support of civil society, the civil society should assist the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in getting information on those that have properties abroad but don’t pay tax in Nigeria. This would help in taming corruption in the country.”

The DoroCorruption mobile app is a purpose-built software that informs Nigerians about the latest trends in the anti-corruption sphere, as well as giving members of the public and private sectors an avenue to conveniently report cases of corruption.

English is the official language of Nigeria.

We live in a globalized world where English is a dominant language.English is a very required language in the 21st century, so if Nigeria is to be modern it needs to communicate effectively in English. One can keep their own language and still learn English. You supporting the illiterate education that will be given to northern students is really sad. Spot on. Some of them that I'm sure probably don't even pay much (if any) taxes are already advising disgruntled 'overtaxed' Lagosians to relocate to Ogun and Oyo in order to escape 'excessive' Lagos taxes. lol. The thing is, Ogun state is also already feeling the heat coz just last night I was watching Amosun on tv, lamenting about having run out of funds needed to complete the many road projects begging for attention all across Ogun state. The guy was literally begging the residents of the state to please pay their taxes. Now, this is the same Ogun that many believe has 'arrived' due to the relatively impressive IGR numbers it's been posting in the last few years. Obviously the state's IGR currently falls far short of meeting its financial obligations; with an insane N9-billion naira monthly wage bill (which is N3-billion more than Lagos'), a $7-billion monthly IGR, and a FG that has refused to reimburse the state for the over N200-billion it has acknowledged owing it in refunds for fixing the federal roads that traverse the state, now please tell me how the state will not resort to heavy borrowing to meet its financial obligation. Something just has to give. They want to leave Lagos for Ogun so that they can escape/avoid paying taxes, yet they expect Ogun to progress and develop?? Like seriously?

As for Oyo, I recall Ajimobi once stating that he's scared to adopt the Lagos model of taxation coz of the backlash he might face from his folks, though he admitted that it's the surest way of sourcing much needed funds for infrastructural development.

Honestly, I don't think our folks are ready to develop just yet. Lagos needs to generate no less than $10-billion annually if it's really serious about developing, which is still far lower than the annual budget of far less-populated Western countries. This is just about one-third of what Nigeria as a whole generates from Oil revenues in a good year. We are not serious in this country.

How much does Lagos generate?

The thing about Lagos is that it’s buildings are ugly colonial replications. Lagos can have beautiful roads and parks but the buildings really take away that beauty...
I wonder, since Lagos plans to become a world class mega city will it tear down those buildings??

It's clear Nigeria is a broke poor country.Architecture, finishing and landscape is zero . i'll be impressed when i see stuff like below

Nigeria isn't a poor broke country(largest economy in Africa, 8th largest producer of oil globally). It's too rich for its own good. Corruption is endemic. Just imagine, the centenary city proposed in Abuja still hasn't started. When corruption is tackled in Nigeria that's when Nigerians will see the result of oil money Nigeria earns.

Countries like UAE and Saudi Arabia are our mates yet our cities and infrastructure are no match to theirs. Hopefully, things will change in the next 20 years as corruption is brought down, industrialization takes place, and our exports become diversified from crude oil.

In the next presidential election, Nigerians must look at tackling corruption as a benchmark for candidates.

Why isn’t this present administration thinking about industrialization. That’s the key to job creation and poverty reduction. Just look at China. Of course agriculture does come in as well but we seem not to be stressing industrialization in Nigeria. That’s how a country goes from 3rd world to 1st.
