Owerri has to start attracting more deep-pocketed investments for Owerri to reach the level of Las Vegas. Rochas really has to market Owerri as an investment destination/hub for entertainment. Rochas should also provide some incentives for such investments.

Example:
Rochas should attract high end casinos and resorts from South Africa(or Nigerian/other countries) with 2-yr tax reliefs.

Owerri certainly has potential but needs marketing. Owerri in years to come should strive to carve a niche in Nigeria and this niche could possibly be entertainment/leisure/tourism.

Is that thing real or a fraud? That Okohia had no access road when some estate agents took me there telling me Okorocha had a very big land in the neighbourhood and would construct it because of personal interest. I wouldn't want to risk going there.

I love this your photo and it's already in the plan with grasses but not palm trees but coniferous trees. Palm trees look finer but seem not to grow well as noticed with the ones planted at IICC.

Without mincing words, Rochas is doing wonders in Owerri.

I am just appealing to him to copy Abuja model of planting trees or palm along median of major roads so ass not to repeat the mistakes of Lagos.

I know it is easy for folks to conclude that without trees and flower a place is still beautiful and habitable. However, a few months after the shiny paints are faded, you will see how ugly it will look. Trees and flowers not just give a great ambiance, it encourages people to treat the environment with some respect. We all love Abuja not just for the wide roads, but the conscious effort at landscaping with trees and flowers the way it should be done for every serious town.

I agree. I can't believe they didn't plant grass there too. That sand really is a turn off. Without greenery, the place just looks like a glorified village.

If you notice, most of the aid Nigeria recieves goes to the North. It makes you wonder why northern Nigeria is so backwards compared to the rest of Nigeria. It's indeed pitiable

I hope this thread can wake up Nigeria. A country with the largest population and largest economy in Africa cannot reach its destined greatness with poor infrastructure and poorly planned cities! I expect in the next 20 years Nigerian cities should be able to rival South African cities and be among the the best internationally.


PS. Open gutters need to be banned in Nigerian cities.

One thing you won't find in South African cities is open gutters. While in Nigeria we are still building with open gutters.

Rivers state that is far richer than IMO state still build open gutter. Wike in rivers state that have increased all forms of tax to boost igr still build majority of his roads with open gutter.

That's exactly my point. Imo state should deviate from this method and be a leader(in terms of a good drainage system) to other states whether richer or poorer. Other states including Rivers would follow Imo's example in the stopping of building open gutters. Open gutters look abysmal and should not be continued to be built in a country with such status such as Nigeria. Nigerians love going abroad and complimenting their infrastructure. Why can't we replicate the same in Nigeria

Exactly what I was thinking. Open gutters and lack of pedestrian walkways or pavements. It just screams third world no matter how big the buildings or how recent they were built.

They need to put a stop to it NOW. It's almost 2018 for goodness sake and they are STILL undermining Nigeria's perception in their very own designs.

Imagine! Even affluent areas in Nigeria have open gutters like Victoria Island in Lagos. Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and our cities are nothing to compare with to South African cities. Sometimes i wonder when they build these ugly designs, do they think it looks good.

The governor should make haste to cover/dismantle and ban the building of open gutters in imo state, so that imo state would be an exemplary leader to other states

Nigeria should have the idea of being a superpower at the back of its mind. As previously mentioned, Nigeria needs growth accompanied with rapid industrialization in the upcoming years then the idea of superpower should be a major issue. At least for now, Nigeria seriously needs to look inward. It's going to be spectacular to see how Nigeria performs in the future. Watch my words.
