Its funny that u asked. Have always wondered what Nigerias economy based on. The UK have annoused today that they will be accepting Naira. I mean u can change your kenyan shilling all over Europe but no nairas.u cant even wipe ass wit Naira. I think its a crime that Nigeria exist.

Funny I didn’t mean that as an insult. It was a sincere question.Luckily I found out that processing is also part of Kenya’s economy. Kenya’s economy is doing better than Nigeria’s. Kenya wasn’t as afected by commodity crashes like Nigeria and South Africa were. It shows that Kenya’s economy is resilient. So whatever Kenya is doing, it’s working...

The United States through its Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a donation of $89 million in additional development assistance to Nigeria in order to continue its support for development goals outlined in a Development Objectives Assistance Agreement signed between both countries.
A statement made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday by the US embassy stated that USAID collaborated with the Nigerian Ministry of Budget and National Planning, the Nigerian Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Power, and Education, and state-level government counterparts among others to structure the bilateral assistance agreement, which runs through 2020.
So from 2020, the U.S. would stop providing aid? Seems like by 2020 plans were made for Nigeria to be a more developed, advanced nation. Sadly, this might not be the case. Nigeria could have been a developed nation years back, just look at Nigeria’s mates. Truth is, Nigeria doesn’t need the aid. Nigeria’s problem is not money but the mismanagement of money.

A country that saw vast amounts of money coming in the 1980s couldn’t invest in electricity, road, and rail. Yet stated that they didn’t know how to spend the money. Well we see how they spent that money today...

Nigeria needs a revolution!

Health / Re: 90% Of Nigerian Households Consume Feces-tainted Water by nwoke37: 6:59am On Feb 09, 2018
It’s pretty sad that the majority of Nigerians, including the middle class, rely on boreholes for water. Where as in other countries the majority rely on clean water flowing through pipes in homes. This shows the failure of the government in providing basic services. Nigeria is supposedly the Giant of Africa, has the largest economy in Africa, and a top 10 producer of oil in the world, yet cannot invest in very basic infrastructure for its citizenry.

Nigeria needs a revolution!!! Citizens of Nigeria, your government is not poor. Demand for what’s yours as a citizen!!

Health / 90% Of Nigerian Households Consume Feces-tainted Water by nwoke37: 5:29am On Feb 09, 2018
Ninety per cent of households in Nigeria consume contaminated water and other impure substances, the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) has revealed. Tap water Mrs Maureen Zubie-Okolo, a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with UNICEF, told newsmen that the water and sanitation situation in the country was worrisome. She said although 64.1 per cent of Nigerians had access to improved drinking water sources, North-East states were, however, lagging behind with 52.4 per cent, while South-West states top the chart with 87.3 per cent of its residents having access to improved water sources. “About two out of every three households use improved water sources, while a little more than one-third use improved sanitation compared to 58.5 percent and 31 per cent respectively in 2011. According to the report, overwhelming majority representing 90.8 per cent of households in Nigeria, drink water contaminated by faeces and other impure substances like Ecoli. Zubie-Okolo said there was the need for more advocacy to all tiers of government to make policies and programmes that would increase access to improved water sources and sanitation. She said it was a known fact that water-borne diseases, such as diarrheal had been the leading cause of hospital admissions, especially among under-five children. The UNICEF official said access to basic water and sanitation would promote wellbeing of citizens and reduce preventable diseases and deaths among the populace. According to her, the MICS report, carried out in 2017 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in collaboration with UNICEF, shows the country’s progress and lapses in key areas of development. She said the overall goal was to advocate for a change in policy formulation and implementation for the development of the nation. Mrs Elizabeth Ugoh told NAN that the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, was working with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to enforce the National Standard for Drinking Water Quality. Ugoh, a Deputy Director, Water Quality Control and Sanitation in the ministry said, “the ministry is calling on all Nigerians drinking water from borehole and other sources to regularly test their water in laboratories across the country to reduce consuming unwholesome water. “We are also calling on borehole drillers to abide by the National Drilling Code of Practice,’’ she added. According to her, six new laboratories are being constructed in the six geo-political zones by the Federal Government to improve water quality and standard in the country. Ugoh said that the six existing laboratories were inadequate due to the country’s large population. It would be recalled that UNICEF had called on the media to use data journalism to help highlight lapses in development indices and the overall goal of meeting the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. What I got from this article is only one thing:

GDP THEIR A$$ ! We can see from the photos (the seemingly medieval dwellings/cities) that GDP is just a Nigerian thingy grin

It don matter how many times they song the sing, the world don giv a piss about GDP because when anyone visit Naija they dont visit GDP.

grin grin That was pretty funny. Give Nigeria some time, America in the late 1800s resembles Nigeria of today with poorly planned urban areas. It wasn't until the mid 20th century that America really began intensified urban renewal. Nigeria( hopefully in soonest times) will realize the massive need for urban regeneration and act on it.

If you even compare Lagos with a city like Cotonou for instance (lemme not go to ACCRA OR even try SA).
You will see wonderful architecture, well planned and neat environment. I remember when I did some projects, I had to go to Benin Republic and their workmanship is excellent. Their bricklayers are good.
Although it is clear that the country is not rich, but it's serene, 24 hours electricity and running water, thats the hall mark of a modern city.
Aside that, the people. The attitude towards respecting the environment and not throwing that sachet on the road, that illegal shop sprawling her and there, not abiding by the city plans or lack of enforcement because of corruption or just relative poverty. Overpopulation. Maintaining a big city can be challenging, but living in denial because of lack of exposure and lack of ability to benchmark performance against other cities outside of Nigeria will not move the city forward.

I envision in the future, that there will be alot of demolitions in Lagos. Lagos is bound to be the New York of Africa. Lagos's success is Nigeria's success

This is probably the real reason why they don't won't open up a factory in Nigeria

Samsung says broadband makes South Africa mobile market bigger than Nigeria’s ON JANUARY 18, 20188:36 PMIN NEWS, TECHNOLOGYCOMMENTS By Prince Osuagwu Samsung Electronics yesterday said South Africa’s mobile market is still stronger than that of Nigeria despite huge difference in population. The company, however, said that Nigeria has the potential to overtake the market with time adding that developments in the market at the moment has already shown that this would not take long to happen. Chief Executive Officer, Samsung Africa, Mr Sung Yoon, said despite South Africa’s population being a fraction of Nigeria’s,deep broadband penetration and almost total adoption of smartphone, makes the market bigger. According to him, “South Africa has almost 95 percent of its mobile market purely on smartphones and 4G/LTE has deep roots in the market unlike in Nigeria where in the overall market feature phones still takes a good percentage and 4GLTE is not widely accessible” Apparently, that could be why Yoon said that building a manufacturing plant in Nigeria is a project Samsung would not think about now but in the future. He said: “there are certain factors taken into consideration before building a manufacturing plant. We have to consider market size, Return on Investment and environment among others. But it is a thing we have to consider in the future” Yoon also hinted on why Samsung drastically reduced staff in its Nigerian office, saying, “in the heat of recession, we needed to do some adjustments. We needed to have more passionate, young and talented people while some others are dropping out. It is a normal company operational strategy not for any other reasons” he added.

Also keep in mind that all their factories are located in Asia, none in Europe and America where they have a strong market and relative large market share. If America and Europe don't have a factory, it might be a bit ignorant to assume Nigeria will get one or Africa at large...

Well, the thing is that those who die in the seas and those in Libya are not trying to get to Syria, Yemen or Cameroon. They are aiming for white Europe. I can almost figure what goes through their minds, ohh I'll get to Europe and those cute cuddly whites will take care of me and I'll be rich and then come back to Africa in future to floss. Dudes, whites dont give a sht about you. They are busy with their lives. The problem is ignorance.

Well, back to the issue grin My point is, if the issue is electricity, then these citizens should be getting their leaders to provide electricity. There is nothing worse than the world hearing that majority of the dying migrants are from the largest economy in Africa. Thats beyond shocking. They are left to wonder how bad things must be for the poorer nations. Which state is that you from? Tell those folks to DEMAND for electricity from their leaders. Btw, if you think your people are migrating because they are born travellers, then you need to see the Kenya of the 80s and 90s. People were leaving this country in millions when Moi was fvcking everything. We were actually just marginally behind Nigeria in terms of migrants in America despite having a population of barely 30 million. By the time KANU was removed from power, Kenya was sending double the number of students to USA than Nigeria. At a certain point, the US State Department became concerned with the migration from Kenya that they had to do an investigation on what was actually going on. All this changed after we removed KANU. Basically, if you replace bad leadership you'll quickly realize Nigerians actually do love to invest in their country. and they can only do this if they get better leaders, and contrary to what they tell you, leaders dont come from heaven. They are elected by citizens.

There's something fishy about electricity generation in Nigeria. Dangote, the richest man in Africa, is starting to build a gas pipelines that will generate 12,000 megawatts which is more than what Nigeria generates,Nigeria generates around 5,000 megawatts. So if a single man can generate that much how much more a whole country!

It seems deliberate that leaders in Nigeria don't want stable electricity... I also heard there was major investment in the power sector by the government which barely yielded fruit... Corruption seems to be the hindrance for Nigeria

For now, I for see the only state in Nigeria that will have 24/7 electricity will be Lagos. Their governor seems to have a vision

Trump's comment should awaken us, Africans, to challenge our normalcy to corrupt leadership. As of now Africa remains the poorest continent and some of us are unaffected by this. Africans with money travel out instead of developing and investing in their country by building factories and businesses, modern hospitals, modern schools and so on... But from your reply it seems you don't consider My examples ( Florida and vegas cities ) if that's the case I rest my case.
