REDshouse:The Nigerian military has done a hundred times more than what the Chadian military has just done. It's just nauseating seeing how many Nigerians think this is a sensible basis to mock the effort of Nigerians military, all because Chadian troops cleared out one BH camp in Chadian territory, something they have been required to do a long time ago under the MNJTF agreement. |
Validated:Whats all these sickening noise from Nigerians glorifying Chadian soldiers and mocking our military guys simply because Chadian troops cleared a camp of boko haram terrorists in Chad? Oga, the Nigerian army and airforce has killed over 2000 BH terrorists and cleared multiple terrorist cells in the last 6 years. These bokoharam guys have for years, used Chad as their safe haven from where they launch attacks against Nigerian targets and then retreat back to Chad after unleashing mayhem. If the Chadian troops have been meeting up with their end of the MNJTF bargain by flushing out the bokoharam camps in Chadian territory, then these terrorists would have been eliminated a long time ago. Just last week, BH launched an attack against Chadian troops killing about 100 of them, and this forced the Chadian govt to finally take action which they should have done years ago but refused to for God knows what reason. Now here we are, ignorant Nigerians are hailing Chad and mocking our military? The ignorance and unpatriotism of Nigerians stink... *spits* cc: REDshouse, MelesZenawi, agwom, TheGiftedOne, Captainrambo2, Staphylococcus, iammo |
Govt said 5G license has not been issued; what exactly is the contradiction here? Am I missing something? |
huptin:No I wasn't talking of the value of the USD, I was referring primarily to the demand for USD in Nigeria. I give an example, if Nigeria needed say $1 to import it's vital needs in 1999, today Nigeria needs about $10 to import its vital needs. Vital needs include things like food, petroleum products, raw materials, medicines etc. In 1999, the rate of import was low, we sourced most of our vital needs internally. But you agree with me that that isn't quite the case today. So what I actually meant was that if $5bn reserve in 1999 was able to meet say 70% of our import needs in 1999, due to the import craze over the last 20 years, Nigeria would need about $50bn to meet 70% of its vital needs today. |
huptin:You cant compare apples and oranges please. No doubt, OBJ was a far far better economic manager, but 1999 was not the same thing as 2015. In 1999, a man could have lived comfortably off a salary of 20k, but it isn't the same thing as today. Nigeria may have had a forex reserve of $5bn in 1999, but that amount is almost equivalent to $50bn of today considering the sharp increase in forex demand over the last 20 years (Nigeria's forex demand today is roughly more than 10 times what it was in 1999)... In 1999, Nigeria wasn't importing all of its petroleum products, which is currently the biggest drain on our fx today. In 1999, how many ordinary Nigerians were going overseas for studies or medicare compared to today (these thing consume forex)? How many people were buying things off Alibaba, Ebay and other foreign market places? How many Nigerians were into foreign online or importation businesses requiring forex? We didnt even have internet banking in Nigeria back in 1999, let alone the visa or mastercards which everyone has in their pockets today. In 1999, Nigeria could literally almost survive with a closed border and zero forex because we largely grew our own food, produced our fabric, refined our fuel etc; but today, even the most basic food items like rice, medicines, petrol, paper, polythene bags, basic fabrics, handekerchiefs etc. we import all of it. But you expect the $5bn reserve of 1999 to be equivalent to what it is today? If OBJ was president in 2015, when oil prices took a sharp dip, and when the savings in reserves were dangerously low (in relation to the fx demand of the time), Nigeria would have also gone into that same recession. Only difference is that an OBJ may have handled it more efficiently and it wouldn't have lasted that long. Contrary to your claim on 4%, the gdp growth rate as at Q2 2015 (when PDP left) was 2.4%; Yes, following the oil price crash which began in late 2014, the much touted gdp growth rate of 7% crashed to 2.4% before Buhari came to power (you can easily google and verify that). Now may I remind you that this was under the watch of a powerful NOI (who also worked with OBJ), and guess what? oil prices were still over $60/barrel and $10bn was spent from the reserves (between Sept 2014 and May 2015) to support the economy, but yet exchange rate still crashed from N160 to N230, gdp rate crashed also to 2.4%. With a forex reserve of $28.6bn (exact figure as at May 29th, 2015), and with no more room to take money from reserves to support the economy and with oil prices still progressively crashing further to $28, what magic did you expect a 'dull' Buhari to do then? It's very easy for humans to loosely commit the fallacy 'post-hoc ergo propter hoc' (i.e. "Pmb became president, then recession came; so therefore, recession came because pmb became president). But we're all educated abeg, let's apply some more analytical thinking instead of just weak political/emotional conclusions. Buhari takes all the blame for not being able to have done wonders after 5 years, but saying recession of 2016 was caused by him is just a weak analogy (which majority of Nigerians are guilty of). |
huptin:So people still make this ignorant argument even in 2020? The pipelines that were burst during OBj, yaradua and GEj tenures, by how much did it affect Nigeria's oil production volume then compared to 2016?.... Did those vandalisms also happen at a time following a sharp drop in global oil prices?... You say oil price was $9 during OBJs time or less during abacha, what was Nigeria's forex demand then compared to 2015? How much of fuel was Nigeria importing then compared to 2015?... How much of importation was Nigeria doing in 1999 compared to 2015 (when even basic items like toothpick and waterproof bags were being imported)?.... If recession was only caused by pmb incompetence and not oil price, why exactly did the 7% gdp rate you talked about fall to 2% before pmb came in power? (obviously a lot of folks like yourself dont know that). |
PHijo:Why dont you go and infect yourself and family members with corona virus. I assure you if you can successfully infect over 20 of your family members in Rivers state, then the FG may be inclined to give some attention to your state. |
90% of confirmed covid19 cases are in Lagos; I guess this should be common sense. But then, everything is politicised in Nigeria. Very soon some people will pick placards to protest alleged discrimination / marginalisation of their state by corona virus. |
Almighty America indirectly begging their citizens not to return home?.... Wow! This corona challenge is really strong. |
OneNigerianist:Okay, fine! His ministry is apolitical, but the man himself is a known political bishop. |
OneNigerianist:What's really the difference between the man and the ministry he heads? |
People comparing Canada and those other countries to Nigeria need mental evaluation. |
OneNigerianist:I probably dont understand the bolded part of your comment above. If it means what I think it is, then nothing else in this world could be further from the truth, because Bishop Chukwuma happens to be about the most politically driven Anglican bishop in Nigeria. The man is a diehard PDP supporter, who has always publicly declared a deep prejudice against anything apc. |
This particular bishop Chukwuma has always just been a staunch hater of Buhari and anything APC. I'm pretty sure his defying of the sit at home order has nothing to do with spirituality, but rather just a desperation for political rebellion. |
helinues:Reno is only a divisive crook, he's not dumb. |
Xisnin:Of course they all got it from the same sources which happen to be some anonymous whatsapp/facebook broadcast videos. |
michlins:When did FFK become a SAN? |
The most lucrative business today is peddling of conspiracy theories. |
The futility of this exercise stinks... |
"Dem crean crean crean, dem crean everywhere... No wonder dem say we too like house girl work" ![]() |
But people call buhari all sorts of nasty names everyday; so how come this particular guy was picked out of a million others? |
If you check very well, this girl would have had DMs from over a thousand decent guys who she looks down on and insults everyday. But they always choose the flashy bling bling visibly irresponsible players. |
I hope this isn't true... |
A person who integrally worked for the government of GEJ is graciously advising Nigerians not to trust donations made to the government of General Buhari #JokeofTheYear # |
Lol... Nigerian politicians and printing of their face on gifts... |
Greenbirth:Which comment of truth?... i was mocking what you wrote earlier. |
Greenbirth:Yes o! Buhari is the one that intentionally froze the project to punish Igbos. The corona story is just a flimsy excuse. Without opening this thread, I knew I must see comments like this. |
Pierced:But the governor was the one who mocked himself by playing politics with corona. |
Sunnycliff:Nope.. the high and mighty are the only ones privileged enough to have tests done. This is even the case in countries loke the UK ans US; you'd bet Nigeria is worse with our low test rate. You'd be shocked at the true number who already have it. |
Seems like publicly declaring a positive corona status is now the latest 'social status' thing. |
