It's been over a month since chloroquin was announced as a possible cure, and in the last month, almost 20,000 people have died of covid-19 in the UK alone, not to mention the multitude dying in other places.

If chloroquin is truly as effective as you claim to treat this plague (i.e. 100% efficacy as you claim), do you really believe its efficacy can be suppressed so much (by big pharma or whoever) under these prevailing deaths?

Chloroquine was announced as a possible cure over a month ago. If chloroquine was really this effective, do you really think the number of people helplessly dying from this disease would still be rising all over the world?

No need splitting hairs...

One wouldn't be to naive to discount the intractable, hydra-headed problems bedevilling most public institutions in Nigetia...

However, it is trite to state that the problems ossifies beyond manageable limits when people get typecast/shoe-horned into roles for which they ill-suited.

The logic and rationality which cannot contemplate an engimeer overseeing the judicial responsibilities nor funtiom as a minister of health should be extrapolated to a sensitive sector like power.

The secret of advance societies is that they have a predilection to getting acts right.

BTW, it was never stated or implied that merely having an engineer as helmsman in the power sector will just make problems go away.

We are talking of painstakingly looking for the best brains around...

Prof Nebo proved that he was obviously incompetent in the role given to him. Dude had no clue...
Of course it pays to have people with right fitting qualifications in the right offices, but my previous comments were just to nullify the widespread simplistic notion that the power sector wasn't doing well because a lawyer held sway (instead of an engineer).
PoliticsRe: Where Is Fashola? by obailala(m): 10:56pm On Apr 28, 2020
maestroferddi:
I beg to disagree.

The best improvement witnessed in the power ministry happened when the ministry was superintended by Prof. Barth Nnaji,a world-renowned professor of Mechanical Engineering.

As an engineer, I don't expect you to understand. It is probably only in Nigeria where a garrulous lawyer gets appointed to oversee power.

We saw it with Bola Ige and as if no lessons were learned, Fashola was also given the nod. Both men have proved unmitigated failures.

Let's keep appointing misfits to sensitive positions and continue expecting them to deliver different outcomes.

Las Las the blackman will continue to provide the ammunition that characterizes him as unimaginative, incompetent and mentally lazy...
I still stand firmly by my point. The issues keeping Nigeria in darkness are not technical or scientific, but rather administrative and political. The mafian cabals holding down the power sector in Nigeria needs someone with strong administrative, manipulative and political wits and clout to outplay them; it's certainly not a problem that dY/dX can solve.

If you doubt it, go and ask Prof Nebo, a professor of mechanical engineering who replaced Nnaji. Of course thinking it was a technical issue (like most Nigerians erroneously assume), Nebo took the bull by the horn but was frustrated back to back, he had to declare that "witches and wizards" were responsible for Nigeria's power woes. Or woul you say prof Nebo was a fake engineer?

To borrow the words of Fashola, "power generation is not rocket". The technicality of power generation and distribution is one of the most simple things which mankind has overcome over 100 years ago. The reason we dont have light in Nigeria isn't because electricity is rocket science, neither is it because we lack basic science knowledge on how to light up a bulb.

You mentioned that things were almost getting better when Prof Nnaji was the minister, but that even further buttresses my point. Have you asked yourself why Nnaji was removed/resigned despite that we all agree he was doing a good job?

That problem/crisis/masquerade/ that removed Prof Nnaji and reversed all his works, do you really think scientific and engineering knowledge would be the most valuable weapon or skill required to fight that problem?

Fashola was actually vocal and active during the early years of Buhari's government. The whole noise about Fashola been a super hero in governance seems to have died out. What happened? Is it his failures in the power sector that has humbled him? That is the most shameful thing that can happen to you when everyone is saying that you are the best man for a job only for you to mess up the whole thing.

[s]Moral of the lesson:
If you are a lawyer, face the Judiciary
Law and Technology has nothing in common[/s]

All Buhari's appointees are square pegs in round holes. A doctor is a minister for employment. A lawyer is the minister for power and works. May be the minister for health is an accountant.
Fashola being a lawyer had nothing to do with the failure in the ministry of power. Gosh! when would Nigerians wake up from this simpleminded logic?

The power issue we have in Nigeria isn't a technical issue needing professors of engineering, it's rather an administrative and political issue requiring an astute administrator and negotiator with very strong political will and political backing. Place Albert Einstein as the minister for power in Nigeria, he would achieve absolutely nothing if he doesn't have administrative skills, if he isn't given the right political backing from oga ontop, and if he isn't given money (lots of it). What did all the other professors of engineering achieve in the ministry of power? 4000mw since 1999 after over $25billion.

Everyday we are inaduated with scream. Of Peter Obi being the next best thing only fit for the presidential seat of Nigeria.

Personally, I am mystified because I knew when Peter Obi governed and I can clearly state he was never n never will be among the top 5 achiever at his time. Please note that during Peter obi reign as governor of Anambra we have the followings

Raji Fashola / Lagos
Kwakwaso / Kano
Godwill Akpabio / Akwa Ibom
Rotimi Amechi / Rivers
Chime / Enugu

Without any remorse this 5 were the outstanding governors when Peter Obi governed. If any igbo or Anambra indigene believe Peter Obi did beta they should list their criteria used and let us have healthy debate on it.

Housing
Jobs creation
Infrastructure development
Youth empowerment
Health care
Education
Security
IGR

Are but few pointers on which governance is measured. Please step forward with facts if there is any fact that Peter Obi did beta in any of these fields than any of those I listed.

In no particular order I have listed the best performing trio that did beta than Peter Obi hundreds times over and I can clearly state Peter Obi is not even in the top 5 of his class.
You need to remember that those states you mentioned are 5 times richer.

Unfortunately, from most of the comments on this thread so far, it shows that most Nigerians are at a loss about what they want in a leader. That's why USA, Canada, France, etc always get good leaders because the people know what they want in a leader and can easily identify it.
I said it recently that if America were to be Nigeria, Donald Trump would never have won the Republican nomination, let alone win the election, for the same reason why some people are rejecting Moghalu, Fela Durotoye, etc.
I think this thread isnt about the 'best', but rather it's about the 'best among the VOCAL critics'. Moghalu or Durotoye wouldnt pass in the category of vocal critics, cant remember when I heard their voices or names last

This thread is about a Lagos state speaker allegedly siphoning millions; the thead is about the Obasa guy and N17million, not Ihedioha and N187million. How can anyone be so dumb not to have noticed the title of this thread?

The last time I checked, there's even another thread on this same forum on the Ihedioha vehicle story. Why dont you go to that thread if it makes you feel any better?

I will say it for the umpteenth time, the fact that anyone could visit a thread about a Lagos politician siphoning public funds, but the only thing his brain could think about is tribe - "Igbo politician stole money too", it just reveals how sick such a person is. You can take solace in the fact that you arent alone in this madness, there are millions of your kind all over the place with empty brains, that explains why politicians will keep looting Nigeria to shithole status till infinity.

Brutai and his men have been fighting Bokoharam for many years without any traceable improvements.

Chad soldiers pushed one major offensive and Bokoharam got dismantled.
Then Brutai immediately relocated to NE.
And today Shekarau wants to surrender, something that wasn't foreseeable until now.

My verdict is..

1. Chadian army has disbanded and weakened Bokoharam, and so Shekarau is at the verge of being captured. And his capture would exposed many grey areas including the sponsors to Bokoharam. So Brutai quickly goes in to do the capturing himself and make sure all that needed to be concealed are not exposed .

2. Another option is they'd have Shekarau turn himself in and be given first class treatment and eventually released as a repentant. We've seen lots of these already.

3. Worst case scenario he'd pretend Shekarau wants to surrender, and orders his soldiers to cease fire for negotiations. This would offer Shekarau more breathing space to recuperate and reorganize again. After all Bokoharam is a business venture Brutai and the elite north would never want to lose.

If you think I'm being pessimistic wait till time proves me wrong
What I noticed from all this is that bokoharam's major strongholds and armour bases are located in Chad. That explains why the group became disorganised the moment Chad decided to wake up. It's now left for Nigeria to man its borders and make a final onslaught.

Second, there are many better aircraft for the war against BH, especially helicopter gunships, drones, surveillance and communications. Even the nonsense about buying heavy tanks is rather stupid. Are you facing enemy with armour?
Third what is the survivability of this aircraft? Is it amoured against ground fire? does it need long runways and support facilities? Can it interface with drones and communications?
