What do you mean by "not at our expense"? Do you want the petrol bought from overseas to be given to you for free?

The pump price of petrol isn't only a factor of the cost of crude alone; there's also a cost for its refining, handling costs, and logistic costs for transporting it to Nigeria and to your filling stations.

Even if crude is $0 (which isnt even true), that doesnt necessarily mean petrol would be free. Like I said before, even at that N125 mark, it still is one of the cheapest in the world. And no, the govt isnt doing it for a profit at your expense, except of course you want it to be dispensed to you for free (or subsidised).

It was highly overprice. The news was all over the world even for the past 3 weeks now. Oil price per a barrel almost dropped to 0$ per a barrel but we were still paying N125 per a litre.

Crude oil may have been worth $0, but not the refined products. It cost money to convert that crude in a refinery to useful refined products; it also cost money to ship that produce to Nigeria. At N125, Nigeria still has one of the cheapest petrol price globally.

In 2014 Brent crude was sold for $93 and petrol was sold for N87. In 2015 oil fell to $48 or so, and petrol remained the same.

In 2020 oil is selling for $35/barrel and we are buying petrol for N145 with govt paying subsidy and later N125 without subsidy.

2020 is Buhari regime, 2014 was Gej regime.

The primary reason the numbers you put up there largely dont seem to add up is because you skipped the exchange rate factor. Nigeria imports all its products and exchange rate has more than doubled between 2014 and 2020.

The most irritating part of it is how millions of people just swallow these stories like idiots. Thousands and thousands of comments and curses following these stories on facebook and other blogs, but you hardly even see anyone bothering to question the veracity probably out of fear because the microscopic few who attempt it are labelled 'saboteur', 'efulefu' and then stampeded by an irate mob of idiots.

Whatever issue they (Canada) they have with the man shouldn't be a reason for them to stop a commercial flight into their country. A simple political solution should counter the insult from Canada - if Canada wouldn't permit a Nigerian airline (Air Peace) landing in Canada to pick up Nigerians, then Nigeria should not permit Canada's preferred airline (Ethiopian Air) landing rights in Nigeria to pick up Canadians. What's good for Greece is good for Uganda!

If the Canadian authorities think Air Peace isn't 'safe' (or whatever nonsense their excuse is), then they should send in their technicians to come evaluate the aircraft themselves. Nonsense!

Real covid-19 patients are prone to have issues with breathing, best believe they're supposed to be laid faced down to enable free flow of air into their lungs (there's medical explanation for what I'm trying to imply). There're several reports on which have highlighted she is still testing positive; even the recent report from yesterday when she was released said though she still tests positive, she is being allowed to go home and advised to continue isolating at home. This is the video shared yesterday of the woman saying it herself.

From what I've learnt on this forum and from other Nigerian social blogs, a large number of Nigerians have no clue that covid19 patients can sometime (or infact most times) have little or no symptoms. A lot of people think covid19 patients must always be in critical condition. I've received uncountable insults for even trying to explain this to some folks.

Go back and read your comment... You stated rightly that 14 days is the standard period of quarantine and inferred that the woman should have been released a long time ago. But the report you read says the woman still tested positive even after 54 days. That's why I asked you that question, "should a person who still tests positive be discharged simply because 'standard' 14 days quarantine period has elapsed?" If this is what you call a stupid question, then you really need to examine yourself.

I apologise also for repeatedly using the word 'ignorant', it's not the nicest thing to say. My problem is that I just get irritated when I see people arguing that covid19 in Nigeria is fake because they see healthy looking people in isolation centres; even some influential persons mocked the sickness saying it was simple malaria because patients were administered malaria drugs. No doubt, Nigerian politicians never fail to take advantage of looting opportunities like these, but is the insincerity of government really a reason we should downplay the potential severity of a pandemic?

Talking about people not showing symptoms, I live in the UK where the virus is on a rampage. Unlike Nigeria, where people who test positive are locked up in isolation centres, the UK approach requires people who test positive to self-isolate at home. I know a couple of people (Nigerians here in the UK) who have tested positive, and recovered (i.e. tested negative); several of these people either didn't suffer any symptoms, or had only mild symptoms of which they didn't even have to go to the hospital. (they actually weren't permitted to go to the hospital because their cases/symptoms were deemed 'mild'). I'm sure if these ones were in Nigeria, we would have termed their cases 'fake' too because they didnt get into ICU.

Anyway like I said, everyone's entitled to believe what they want.

We were talking about covid19; the percentage of people who show symptoms and those who are asymptomatic, a purely scientific discussion. I directed you to make a simple google search to personally educate yourself on the percentages I gave (since you claimed my links weren't genuine) and then you returned with a demeaning response yelling BMC BMC! And saying I wasn't worth a response. Now you're feigning ignorance of how you brought politics and insults into this? What exactly has BMC or wailers got to do with our otherwise scientific discussion?

Your argument basically is that those in Nigerian isolation centres who look healthy cannot possibly be positive for the corona virus because true covid19 patients must be in critical condition in ICU, struggling to breathe?.... and of course I'm an idiot (and BMC) because I tell you your above perception is wrong?

I'll repeat myself one last time, not for you but for
others (sensible humans) who may read this post. A lot of covid19 patients, a large majority actually show no symptoms or show only mild symptoms till the end of their tenures. Only a tiny fraction get to critical stages which you see on TV where theyreyou see them in ventilators in the IDifferent countries have different approaches. In Nigeria, people who test positive are taken to isolation centres primarily to ensure they dont go about infecting others. That a person tests positive for corona virus and is in an isolation centre, it doesnt mean the person must be showing symptoms or must be critical all the time. That's why you see videos of patients in isolation centres looking healthy, eating and dancing.

Other countries have different approaches; in the UK for instance, majority of covid19 patients don't step into the hospital except for when they go for their tests. People who are diagnosed positive are asked to isolate at home and will only be brought to the hospital if their case gets critical. A large majority of cases do not get critical, the patients sit in their homes 'dancing and eating' healthily until they get better.

But finally, if sharing this basic information by any means makes me an idiot in your eyes, then feel free to choose what you want to believe. The world knows who the idiot is.

You're wondering why people in isolation centres in Nigeria are eating and dancing or why Seyi Makinde recovered so soon. When they say the virus is deadly, it doesn't automatically mean it must put down or kill every infected person. If you spend the data you're blasting here on Nairaland to do a little research, you will realise that over 95% survive the illness. In the UK for instance, the majority of the people who test positive do not even have to go to a hospital; they're asked to isolate at home. Carriers are taken to the hospital only if their symptoms become severe or their case critical.

Abeg I'm not here to argue on any irrelevant nonsense, there are over a thousand news reports, journals and educative articles online on the subject matter; there's also first hand testimonials from both infected people and medical practices. If you cant research and educate yourself, but want to keep whining about govt, then by all means, suit yourself and embrace your ignorance.

What they treat are the symptoms of the virus which manifests differently in different people. For some the symptoms are a fever, others breathing problems, while in others it may be inflamation.

If you don't have any symptoms then you are kept there to avoid infecting others, spreading the virus, which is trying to correct the mistake the goverment made early on when it insisted on self quarantine which did not work. That is why the place of detention it is called an 'Isolation Centre'.

In the western world there are no isolation centres just hospitals to treat patients who have exhibited symptoms. There even if you are positive you are advised to stay at home in self isolation until you become unwell or get better.

Here once you are positive you are picked up and taken to the IC whether you have symptoms or not. Our system is different.

What is so hard for Nigerians to understand in this.

Common sense isn't common in Nigeria, so you can't expect everyone to know this. I must confess though, the sheer number of people exhibiting this ignorance is beyond my expectation. Even big influential persons with large followings aren't left out (e.g. pastors, politicians), and these guys have further confused millions with careless utterances.

It she's still positive then she was probably asked to go and isolate herself. This virus can be funny sometimes and her case is not the first. Juventus player Paulo dybala tested positive 4 times to this virus in 6 weeks. He was positive for almost 2 months. Tested positive on 21st March and then finally negative on 6th May He was never sick so was isolated at home. He just tested negative recently.

Going by the wisdom of many Nigerians, Italian CDC must have made mega bucks from the Dybala scam test.

I know some of una nor get sense but it's important una go borrow sense. if she's infected or not, coming from country with high infection rate warrants quarantine against your wish. and most asymptomatic covid 19 patients will always want to claim they aren't infected. One doesn't even need scientific knowledge to figure this; all that's needed is common sense. But it's amazing how uncommon common sense is these days. A lot of people still have no grasp of what it means for a patient to be asymptomatic; they think every covid patient must be struggling to breath.
