Ignorance! Just like many others out there, you are simply ignorant of what the foreign reserves is meant for, that's why you believe it's foolish to save money in the reserves; you'd rather have it all spent and plunge the country instantly into an economic mess like Venezuela.

What exactly do you think increases the GPD of a nation?... A higher reserve improves a country's credit rating, a higher credit rating improves investor confidence, and with investors having confidence, they flock into an economy with the confidence that they can make money and actually get paid/extract their profits whenever they want. With investors flocking into an economy and improving its productivity, what effect do you think that would have on the nation's GDP?... Also with higher productivity, what effect do you think that would have on employment, inflation and the poverty index?

I'm not surprised that there are people who dont understand this elementary economic logic; after all a lot of our people still believe it was Buhari's face that made investors to flee Nigeria between 2014 & 2017 when Nigeria struggled to obtain forex and when its foreign reserves hit the rock bottom.

Of course security is a factor which worries foreign investors, but rubbishing the pivotal position of a sound forex reserve in providing investor confidence is rather very myopic; even at the height of the bokoharam menace when a bomb went off everyday with repeated occurences in Abuja, investors still flocked into Nigeria but simply just avoided troubled spots.

BBN is a private initiative organised by a South African businessman to make money for himself/his organisation and to entertain people. The keyword above is 'PRIVATE', so I'm a bit confused at how you now think this private business venture is the problem of your educational sector which you are embarrassed about. How exactly did you link these two things?

Why dont you hold your government or the governing bodies of your higher institutions responsible for not incentivising educational excellence?... How has one man's private business suddenly become your problem?... For starters, without having to wait for our useless leaders, is there really anything stopping you as a private concerned individual from setting up a private organisation that rewards academic excellence?...

It's always very convenient for us to just fold our arms and do nothing but then sit behind keyboards to criticise, insult and crucify others for simply living their lives.

Must everything teach something? If you want to learn, go to a school; if you want moral education, go to a religious school or a church. You are totally drifting off point. Retrace your steps back to the first comment and let's focus on the main topic. The point I have made is that Shehu Sani has spoken the gospel truth; I cant even imagine how anyone could possibly argue over that. The reason why many northern elite who should be speaking about this are quiet is the same reason why no southern elite with affiliation to the ruling party is also talking about it. It's all because of political expediency, no one wants to jeopardise their political careers/ambitions by seeming to castigate the president.

Nope, I think you are confusing the meaning of the words 'right/wrong' with 'truth/false'. Of course people's lives shouldn't be used for politics, it is wrong, but that doesn't change the truth in what Shehu has said that a lot of northern elite who should speak up on these things are silent purely because of political expediency.

Your claim that they all remain silent because they are all part of a conspiracy is rather a myopic theory. Or are you suggesting that even the the Benue state governor Ortom is also part of the Fulani conspiracy?... Cos just until recently when things hit the roof, Ortom who is crying out now was also tongue-tied (due to politics) and was singing sycophantic praises of Buhari. Or are you also of the school that assumes every elite from Benue/Kogi/Kwara northwards are also Fulani who must be part of the Fylani conspiracy?... Are the governors and legislators from Kogi, Nassarawa, plateau, Bauchi, gombe, borno, kebbi, Niger etc also all part of Fulani conspiracy?

For IBB or Atiku to speak out, and even shehu himself, these guys are just microscopic exceptions; infact, IBB is now a spent force who can only speak out the truth now cos he's got no political ambitions anymore. Similarly, it can be argued that Atiku is only speaking out cos it is politically expedient for him (as a PDP presidential hopeful).

Sani is actually right; in Nigeria, people place political gains before anything else.

I come from a family of cocoa farmers and it is cocoa money that sent me abroad 1st time I travelled. I cannot imagine how herdsmen can destroy cocoa farm worth millions and no arrests are made.

How can you make governor chief security while fg controls the police.

That's an issue under debate, state policing. I guess we should be focusing some pressure on our respective Representatives and Senators to bring things like this up in parliament.

The state governor is the chief security officer of his state and the constitutional powers/authority to create or approve local vigilantes rests in the hands of the governor.

Several people on this thread seem to have pointed this out to you in different ways but it seems you don't still get it. Hopefully it becomes clearer to you before today runs out.

The things this government does will continue to baffle me. Imagine what $496million will do to our Infrastructural, educational, agricultural and health sectors.

If we have the right environment and encouragement, we will invent and create things that are better than these.

My advice to future leaders is that they should focus more on developing the Nigerian people by providing solid education in fields that will turn our present pitiable and sorry state to a more prosperous nation. Avoid wasting money on things that won't change the price of garri in the local markets.

Going by the wisdom of your logic, I guess Nigeria should just disband the military and spend all those billions wasted on the military on infrastructural development and to feed hungry folks with garri. After all, with the right infrastructure (inclusive of stomach infrastructure), there would be jobs, and with reduced unemployment, the security situation wouldn't be so bad so there wouldnt even be need for the military or any other security force.

But on the flip side, there was once a time when bokoharam was on a bombing spree across Nigeria, from Abuja to Kaduna to Jos to Kano to Minna etc, hardly a week passed without you hearing of a bomb blast with scores of innocent people killed. These billions spent on security which in your peculiar wisdom you now claim is a waste is the reason those bokoharam bombings have not gotten to your father's house, and maybe to your head.

Let me inform you, those general hospital will be abandoned for ever. Most of the uncompleted projects of Sam Mbakwe, did any governments that came after him touch them ? Go to flour mills Akabo and see what they have turned it to. Let me inform you as well, we do not need 27 general hospital in Imo State. State hospital created by Chief Udenwa is enough to serve Imo, Rochas came and destroyed it. Orlu teaching hospital brought up by Udenwa as a center of excellence, you know what Rochas did to it. With these facts given to you, do you expect any incoming government to work on unfinished tasks of Rochas. He will like to initiate new projects people will remember him for.

Governor 1: Comes into power, ignores uncompleted projects of his predecessors, starts fresh projects in line with his personal ideas and visions and completes his own personalised projects.

Governor 2: Comes into power, concentrates on finishing the numerous incomplete projects of his predecessors and completes them to the benefit of the people of his state; but unfortunately has limited room/resources to implement his own personal ideas.

For any human to remotely think Governor 1 above is superior or a better achiever than Governor 2, such a person needs serious help. Unfortunately, majority of Nigerians exhibit this repulsive mentality, and that's why no leader intends to complete old projects for fear of all the glory going to their predecessors. This horrible thought pattern has left Nigeria the abandoned project capital of the world.

And by the way, just to correct a statement you made (probably out of ignorance) above, "we actually need more than 27 General hospitals in Imo state" and Rochas did very well in starting them. If there are any which arent complete and Rochas' successors refuse to complete them, it would be extremely silly to blame Rochas for the failure in continuity by his successors. We need to get rid of this messed up mentality.

I see no changes and no transformation. They simply just looked slightly younger in the old pictures and also, digital picture quality in 2009 cant be compared to 2018.

Ndi Imo see what you attracted for yourselves. What did he achieve with the General hospital in each local govt. He did not even pay the contractors who did job, His tenure is about to end none of the hospital is functioning, the fly overs are not working.

Rochas leaving office in 2019 does not mean he will pocket the general hospitals still under construction and walk away; the next governor can continue and complete them. Let's not get too obsessed with just criticising everything just for the sake of it.
