In 1970 after the war the Nigerian government generally gave £20 of Nigerian money to every eligible adult but no one has ever done the math.

Let us assume their were one million of them =£20million Nigerian

We know that the Nigerian pound exchanged for £2 pounds sterling in 1970 so
that would be £40 million . What would that be worth today

according to this inflation calculator

https://www.moneysorter.co.uk/calculator_inflation2.html
it would be
£432612859. Sterling
Not sure what sterling is doing these days but @ 475

that is

205491108025 Naira

200 billion

Assuming it was 1 million people that received the money. No one has ever told us how many did but I think it could be double that.

For a country to pay that out immediately after a war of such devastation is a huge feat considering that Nigeria was not even a major oil exporter in1970 and in 1970 oil prices were under $4 which when adjusted for inflation in today's money is $21.

It is a testament to the prudent financial management of Papa Awo who also kept the allocation of East Central state for 3 years and paid it all after the war

But they are not grateful and feel entitled to that payment. What have we done for the NE . Imagine finding 200 billion to give them today when oil prices in real terms are 3 X what they were in 1970

The standard of living was much lower. Let me put it in Perspective our standard of living then, There was no Lagos Ibadan Expressway. No East -West Road. PH to Aba was a single carriage way.The Air assault camp was the main airport in PH Omagwa airport did not exist. There was nothing like presidential jet. Where were the airports?
The country was broke with very little compared to today but still gave generously in the spirit or sacrifice and reconciliation
The FG didn't pay any money to Igbos, rather they returned a tiny fraction of the seized. If an Igbo man had £10,000 in his account, only £20 was returned to him; if the man had zero in his account, nothing was paid to him.

Buhari's appointments are skewed towards the north, that is general knowledge, but there's something very faulty and fraudulent about the list above. Firstly, I could only count 66 northern names on the list so I wonder where the sensational 81% put in the title came from (the author of the list obviously knows no one would bother counting). Secondly, there are several appointees from the south whose names are clearly absent from the list.

While we all know PMB is 'King of the North', this list is just another dumb attempt at sensationalism.

The worst disease that can afflict someone is sincere ignorance. You are here writing epistle to shadow out your ignorance when you can just take a step into Light instead of wandering aimlessly in darkness. What's the diffrence between a theif who stole 599 naira with a gun and the one that stole 599999 naira with a gun?

You are in a humid office typing from a cobwebbed office rented for you by one of those new breed sycophant to defend an administration thats going down faster than a man suffering premature ejaculation and you think you have the right to throw insults at seasoned journalist whom you can't even dream to hold their Handkerchief for talk more of wiping their shoes.

Don't try to defend everything because when you try to make everyone to see wisdom in what you say, the opposite on display.

Buhari is a bigot and those Journalist might have done some slight error which might not be hed against them because if we have to list some of the names not mentioned then we might end up with more than 100
The only one afflicted with ethno-politically influenced ignorance is your very self. Try and rescue yourself from the pit laterine of hate induced ignorance which you've subjected your soul to before you come here to type your nonsense.

Buhari's appointments are skewed towards the north, everybody knows that! but putting up a list of 100 names and boldly lying that 81% was from the north, whereas only 64 names in the list is actually from the north; your report in the usual manner was intended to mislead people (because everyone knows Nigerians hardly look beyond the titles), but your sleaze was exposed. Now instead of acting like a sane/smart fraudster by simply walking away quietly to go think up another falsehood to sell (since that is your passion), you are here arguing over how IT DOESNT MATTER THAT THE REPORT LIED BECAUSE 599 = 599999; your case has gone way beyond ignorance and can best be termed desperate stupidity.

Birds of the same feathers they say flock together! Reason why I'm not surprised at you for terming the bare faced mischievous LIE by the journalist as 'SEASONED JOURNALISM'. Nothing more should be expected from a sorry frustrated loser who believes the only way out of his misery is only through the promotion and glorification of falsehoods.

Swallow your tongue and defecate it for even talking about diffrence between 67 & 81 when it's still same offence the g bat that did it committed. It's like asking for diffrence between six and half a dozen.

Pray for your unborn kids to have a morsel left from this sycophantic money you are earning supporting evil because you seemed handicapped to earn an honest living

When a man is being paid to be stupid and does a good job of his stupidity, who am i to say being stupid is not the best thing for that man
6 and half a dozen are the same thing but 64% and 81% are not in any way the same. A person might be a bigot or whatever, but that doesnt justify why you must only churn out petty shameless lies to argue your case; cant you for once use your brains to bring up meaningful factual arguments?... Only a desperately silly soul would keep arguing or defending such bare faced mischief which has already been exposed... and then you still have the guts to label someone else a zombie? (you obviously have no clue what a zombie is even though one stares at you everyday in the mirror).

If there are any persons who should be burying their heads in shame, it is definitely the divisive journalist who deliberately created the misleading list, and the zero IQ dumbos who insist on defending the nonsense even though it has been exposed as scam. Of course only zero IQ'd dumbos would insist on arguing that 64% = 87% because it would be too much punishment expecting them to churn out a meaninful argument from their hollow skulls. Oh yes! YOU and your dubious journalist friend are the ones that should bury your heads entire body mass in a pit latrine of shame.

The key issue which removed their hero from power was his amorous relationship with corrupt people and corruption. So it isnt surprising that day after day, all they do desperately is try and prove to the world that PMB is equally as corrupt as their hero (most even ridiculously claim that PMB is 'more corrupt' than the past order); no wonder you begin to hear dumb and laughable allegations like, "PMB pocketed $25billion missing NNPc money."

I must confess though, PMB has disappointingly not acted swiftly enough in most corruption scandals happening under his nose. Babachir and the NIA dude, and now Dambazau and Malami, these guys are more loke an albatross hanging on neck of PMB's anti-corruption campaign. He would do well to forget the democracy and swiftly conclude these cases.

What is the meaning of the irrelevant and meaningless average cost thing you people keep talking about? Do you manufacture the tools and equipment to be used or you are going to ship them from across the ocean, clear them and transport them to your work site?

Is the price of land in Nigeria also part of your average cost?

Is the cost of local and shipped foreign labor that you are going to lodge comfortably in a nice hotel for 2 years or more included?

Have you also included the cost of 58 kilometres transmission line?

No offense, but why do you people reason so basic, shallow and elementary?
I take an exception to your rants man, there is nothing basic about questioning why a proposed project is costing twice the amount I think should be the average cost. I'm quite sure the other projects that cost less also included peripheral systems like the transmission lines in their package costs. So if you have an explanation as to why you believe this very project is costing this much, or why you feel this project isn't pricey at all, then bring up your explanation to the house instead of attacking people. We're all here to learn and these are the exact kind of topics I love to visit on this site for the purpose of learning.

Based on what? Are you a power plant engineer or expert or it's the same NL look and comment without facts?
Calm down bro! I dont have to be an auto technician or automotive engineering expert to have an idea how much a 2017 C-Class cost. My concern is based on my idea of the general cost of similar gas power plants around the world and in Nigeria; just like the dude I quoted stated, for most gas plants, average cost is typically $1000 per kw, i.e. roughly $1billion for 1000mw. Could be cheaper, could be more expensive, but this very plant is twice this average cost estimate.
PoliticsRe: FG Signs Pact To Build $1 Billion Power Plant In Akwa Ibom by obailala(m): 3:31pm On Oct 28, 2017
Obi1kenobi:
This is interesting considering the $1.1 billion bill for 540 MW. Gas-powered plants are one of the cheapest to build (considerably cheaper than coal plants) and the median costs for most gas plants in developing countries is about $1000 per KW. So you'd expect a bill of between $500m to $600m for this particular plant. But in this country where every infrastructural project seems to be absurdly inflated, it's no surprise it's costing double that. And it's apparently one of the cheapest. grin

You look at the cost of the Ikoyi link bridge or Kwankwaso's Kano flyover, or the projected costs for the 2nd Niger Bridge, or the projected costs for the interstate rail projects per km (or even Lagos' rail project and Amaechi and Duke's monorails) compared to similar projects in countries like Tanzania, Ethiopia etc and something is terribly wrong with the process in awarding these contracts. So many rotten scumbags feeding fat off the country.
I totally agree with you; $1.1billion for a 540mw gas plant absolutely doesn't add up.

I do not know why some people want to masturbate themselves to death on this post. Osinbajo goofed and I did the right thing to set the records straight. Even if he apologised in two or three lines as I saw in the tweet (which didn't even come from him), it is still the duty of journalists to inform the public.

obailala, do you know how many millions of people his false, deceptive and politically-skewed statement deceived? Did he do the needful by using such medium as the one he used to publicise his false information to apologise for his epic gaffe? Cut me some slack boy, stop ventilating on my post and learn how to hold political office holders accountable by presenting issues the way it should be even if you are being paid to lie to yourself. Osinbajo's speech was a political statement meant to persuade voters to vote for a party that is filled with liars who are not even pricked by their own shameful conduct.

Some ruminants have gone to market to publicize the amount as yet another achievement of the APC, heaping praises on Osinbajo while relying on a false figure. One was here shouting like a sick giraffe.

For the avoidance of doubt, Osinbajo didn't clarify the issue almost immediately, and neither did he do it 'midnight of the same day as you claimed'. Stop the lies! It is really lame of you to try to play down this incident without considering the damage it has done to the gullible set that have been misinformed by Osinbajo.

Just go and sleep, obailala.
Well, like I said before, Osinbajo goofed in the statement no doubt, and everyone has the right to cut their pound of flesh. But yeah, the clarification tweet was sent out less than 12hours later (specifically the tweet was made by 3am on Saturday 21st morning just after the event), the tweet was from the handle of the presidency, and Osinbajo himself retweeted it for clarity - there is no lie in what I said above, you can easily go check it yourself instead of labelling me a liar....

The reason I commented on this thread is because I couldn't understand the rationale behind you creating this thread trying to 'prove' that the statement was false even when it was already all over the news and media that the error had been admitted and clarified.
