ahaika23:I'm sorry I wouldnt leave common sense and logic and start dwelling on baseless nonsense. The reason behind everything wrong today in the economy is well documented in facts and figures for any discerning mind to understand. Once again I'm sorry, I would not throw facts and figures away only to settle for gutter interpretations, I am not you. ![]() |
Keballl:Like I mentioned to someone earlier, it is pure undiluted foolishness for anyone to suggest or even think it that an admin which incurred a debt and couldn't fulfil it was a saintly admin; but the poorer admin which inherited the debt and is struggling to pay is cursed. That's all I have to say, no time to beat about the bush it meaningless rants.. |
Jolar101:Do you really expect me or any sound persin at all to answer this question? |
yaki84:Nigeria is an import dependent nation. The price of everything, including things produced in Nigeria is influenced by oil price because oil price influences Nigeria's forex earnings and Nigeria's forex earnings is what determines the exchange rate. In the last 3 years on the average, Nigeria has made only a tiny fraction of the forex it used to make in the recent past and that explains why the exchange rate is messed up presently. Garri might be produced in Nigeria, but the kerosene put in the ovens used to fry garri is imported and the transportation cost from the farm to the mill and to the market is influenced by imported fuel price. Furthermore, the garri fryer and seller dont live on garri alone, they need fuel in their cars and generators, they need to eat rice (imported) too etc.. No matter how you look at it, the very fact that Nigeria imports petrol alone simply means that anything which affects the exchange rate, affects the price of every single commodity in Nigeria. And please dont tell me you just tried to compare forex Nigeria gets from selling yams etc to the forex Nigeria gets from selling oil. |
Jolar101:Remain focused on the topic, we are talking of an ASUU debt of N850billion, an amount which was negotiated by GEJ but but which he failed to fulfil its payment. Yes! govt is a continuum and the current government never mentioned anywhere that it isnt going to pay the debt. But no matter how you try to twist it, it is pure foolishness for anyone to think that the very much richer govt which incurred the debt was a saintly govt, while the much poorer govt which inherited and is struggling to clear the debt is a curse. That is the basis of my previous comment..Pure foolishness.. |
melejo:Hmmm... 1999?... maybe you must be reading different news from everyone else. Cos the bone of contention today is from an agreement of 2009 which was re-negotiated with beautiful promises in 2013; and which the then govt never fulfilled. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/breaking-ASUU-begins-indefinite-strike/ The fact of this case is clear to any sound and unbiased mind, the Nigerian government cannot fund education as it should. If the govt could not fulfil these financial obligations when it made far more money, I doubt it can meet up with the obligations now. My previous comment by the way was in response to a deliberately mischievous and confused chap who labelled GEJ a saint and PMB a curse for being unable to magically clear the huge debts he inherited from GEJ. |
yaki84:If you care to know why Nigerians were feeling fine and prices were down back then, all you need to do is to compare the amount of forex entering Nigeria back then and the amount entering now; from the records, it was 5 times more in those years. I guess this should be a common sense thing. |
WhiteSoup:Who is the bigger curse?... GEJ who got deceived by ASUU to make an impossible promise to ASUU but ended up not fulfilling a single part of the promise despite the fact that his government earned over 5 times more than Buhari and also spent twice the time in Aso Rock than Buhari... GEJ is a saint whom you miss but you think Buhari who inherited the N850billion debt from GEJ and is struggling to clear it in this time of low finances is the cursed one in this matter? Some of these Jonathanians, e be like say una get migraine. ![]() |

chymes0359:The only reason why anyone still talks about the last guys is because instead of them (the last guys and their supporters) to shut up and hide their faces in shame, they still come on air to insult the intelligence of Nigerians by narrating how saintly and wonderful they were and how bad others are. Every single thing you term 'blame game' today is just a direct response to the provocative utterances of the lieutenants and supporters of the last guys. This thread for instance talks about how the last admin earned over 5 times more revenue than the current admin and the only reason a report like this (which you may term another blame game) has hit the airwaves is because of the unguarded provocative utterances of GEJ in the recent PDP convention where he bragged about piloting the economy very wonderfully while blaming/castigating the current guys. Furthermore, this thread also refers to how despite the glaringly little revenue, the current govt has been able to not only meet most basic obligations, but has also been able to clear off several debts and obligations which the last admin was incapable of fulfilling. And what exactly was your response?.... You scolded and asked why ASUU issue hasn't also been fulfilled yet... Like really?... The only reason I responded with that comparison with the last admin was because from the tone of your antagonising question, you obviously sounded very much like a sympathiser of the last admin (forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's exactly what you sounded like). |
deji17:It's completely pathetic, one would have expected some people to just shut up and hide their faces, but they just feel a compulsion to talk even when they have absolutely nothing meaningful to say. |
Dereformer:Oh you no longer want to argue on Naira value any more?... You no longer think its wise to follow your superstitious approach any more?... Its now a story of the 80's? Whatever happened to 2015?... Are you now at a loss for what to say? |
Dereformer:Bro, we are talking simple logic and not some superstitious nonsense here. You give Mr A $20 and Mr B $100, common sense entails that you cannot expect same results. |
plaetton:Are you trying to say the current govt isnt also giving the exact same percentage to the other arms of government? |
chymes0359:I dont think I understand your English and not sure also why you have to write on the right margin. Back to the topic, what exactly is the blame game here? |
chymes0359:Rome definitely wasnt built in a day, so it makes no sense expecting all the accumulated debts to be cleared in a day... The better question any sincere person should be asking is why these demands of ASUU were not cleared by the last guys who headed the govt when the country earned over 5 times what it is earning currently. |
ozimec:Bro, the FG has abandoned properties all over Nigeria; nothing belonging to the government ever works in Nigeria and this issue is not restricted to the SE as has been advertised and advertised and promoted for so long. Speeches like yours which claims the problem exists mainly in the SE is the reason why there are many people keying into the agitations in the SE. When a message is preached over and over again, everybody gets to believe and even re-echo the message; but that does not necessarily make the message to be absolutely true. If you think the SE is the only area in Nigeria experiencing FG neglect, I would love to hear you mention any thing owned by the FG which works in other zones of Nigeria (besided Lagos and Abuja which happen to be FCTs). |
MyNewJackeT:GEJ has long been forgotten and dumped in the trash bin of history. Your eyes are open but you obviously do not see, cos if you could see, then you should have noticed the glaring trend that well meaning Nigerians remember and castigate GEJ only when GeJ and his loot deprived lieutenants come online to insult the intelligence of Nigerians by telling us how wonderful GEJ was. This current episode of attacking GEJ is just in response to the intelligence insulting speech GEJ made recently in the PdP convention. That Nigerians chose not to talk about him does not mean we have forgotten his indiscretions and the disaster he was. |
ozimec:What about all the other abandoned mills and factories that litter the length and breadth of Nigeria?.. What about the numerous abandoned textile mills across the north?... What about Ajaokuta steel plant etc? .. Is there even anything owned by govt which functions in any part of the country at all??... Going by your 'I AM A VICTIM' logic, I guess the FG also abandoned them all because the FG has no interest in any part of the country right? |
krendo:Every competent global economist also wrote GEJ off as a clueless waster who supervised the squandering an unprecedented income boom and left Nigeria in unbelievable debt... After enjoying average oil prices above $100 for his entire 5 year reign, is there any sector that wasnt left in debt by 2015?... If there is any, kindly name it?. With oil price averaging over $100, there was simply enough forex to cater for Nigeria's inordinate thirst for foreign products, therefore Naira value was comfortably subsidized at N160 to a dollar. But as soon as oil prices began falling in late 2014, the Naira instantly nosedived from N160 to N220 within few months; and this was despite the fact that oil still sold above $65 and up to $10billion was spent from the reserves to support the Naira. Fastforward to May/June 2015, only a measly $28.6bn was left in the reserves (obviously no more free $10bn to support the Naira) and of course oil price kept falling to even $28; but some so called competent scholars and economists think the Naira value could still have been stable and strong because Buhari should have been a magician. |
Bizibi:Of course it isnt as bad in every community. |
limeta:Kindly shut up with your silly parasitic talk. Stop using every topic as an avenue to come wail ignorantly. I may not be from the Niger delta, but I was born and raised in the Niger Delta; and I'm sure by virtue of my orientation, I am in a very good position to understand what happens in the area. |
Nabbed?... How does seeing a person's picture translate to nabbing? Dhayor001:The guys in the picture may not have even bought the phone yet; maybe they were just being shown the phone by the seller and they decided to test it's camera. ![]() |
Shame... |
They've been reviving these companies on paper since 1999. ![]() |
PrecisionFx:Like I said, you dont have a clue how bad the politics of disbursing niger delta development funds is. You suggest that the youths and elders should be bribed first by govt before building hospitals, roads and schools in their communities?... I'm sure you have no clue how much bribe these people demand, hence why you support the irresponsibility. And then again, imagine the FG decides to scrap NDDC and 13% derivation (which are specifically meant for projects like this)?... Imagine the FG decides to add those funds to a special office under Fashola's Works ministry for development of these communities. You would be surprised at where nuclear bombs would enter Nigeria from to destroy every single oil facility and bring down production to zero in protest against the FG's decision. And of course, people like you would still come online to blast the FG for marginalising the communities by not releasing development funds to the dubious leaders. By the way, how come it's always the fault of the FG when little community roads like these are not in good shape? ... I've never heard of the FG not releasing the 13% development funds for these communities to state governments; so how come all the blame always goes to the FG and none to state governments that receive the funds and swallow it? |
PrecisionFx:You have probably never really been to the Niger Delta where the govt has to even pay youths and chiefs some development levy (a.k.a. deve) before being allowed to build roads, hospitals etc. Like I said before, many dont have a clue over the kind of politics of blackmail going on in those communities. If the leaders in those communities wanted Julius Berger, Julius berger would be there in a split second. But majority of them simply want the cash/ contract given to them directly. Refuse the request to release the money/contracts to them and hell would be let lose on pipelines, oil worker etc. |
Henrypraise:You are talking out of a position of ignorance, you have no idea what really goes in there. You should step foot into those communities and see what happens. These were the sort of things saro wiwa fought too. |
erico2k2:I am speaking of what I know very very well. |
limeta:Must you reason from the point of view of a pained and deprived loser all the time? ![]() |
woodcook:Blue3k just clarified that the metering facilities actually exist, but are not sufficient, not efficient and have been allowed to deteriorate without any maintenance over the decades, hence metering capacity of NNPc is greatly impaired. Blue3k: |
