I'm sorry I wouldnt leave common sense and logic and start dwelling on baseless nonsense. The reason behind everything wrong today in the economy is well documented in facts and figures for any discerning mind to understand. Once again I'm sorry, I would not throw facts and figures away only to settle for gutter interpretations, I am not you. smiley

Will you shut the eff up. The humongous budget of Aso Rock puts your hypocrisy to shame.

Your presidency is busy budgeting trillions of naira with nothing to show and you are here typing nonsense.
Like I mentioned to someone earlier, it is pure undiluted foolishness for anyone to suggest or even think it that an admin which incurred a debt and couldn't fulfil it was a saintly admin; but the poorer admin which inherited the debt and is struggling to pay is cursed. That's all I have to say, no time to beat about the bush it meaningless rants..

that was administrative ingenuity.....
So the forex gotten from exporting yams, cocoa, gnut, palmoil n skulls aint comparable to that of oil?
I thought nigerians from diaspora send billions yearly to the country, wo accounts for that?

During pdp era the highest crude exported was 2mill barrels a day subjected to disruption from millitants, now i heard its 2.3mill so we don't need excuse.

Garri is not imported from china so why is it competing with fuel price?
Nigeria is an import dependent nation. The price of everything, including things produced in Nigeria is influenced by oil price because oil price influences Nigeria's forex earnings and Nigeria's forex earnings is what determines the exchange rate. In the last 3 years on the average, Nigeria has made only a tiny fraction of the forex it used to make in the recent past and that explains why the exchange rate is messed up presently.

Garri might be produced in Nigeria, but the kerosene put in the ovens used to fry garri is imported and the transportation cost from the farm to the mill and to the market is influenced by imported fuel price. Furthermore, the garri fryer and seller dont live on garri alone, they need fuel in their cars and generators, they need to eat rice (imported) too etc.. No matter how you look at it, the very fact that Nigeria imports petrol alone simply means that anything which affects the exchange rate, affects the price of every single commodity in Nigeria.

And please dont tell me you just tried to compare forex Nigeria gets from selling yams etc to the forex Nigeria gets from selling oil.

Come on, government is a continuous institution. Why did Buhari inherited BVN STA and all the good economy policies of GEJ's administration.

ASSU must be paid by APC administration.

Anyway, congratulations to Buhari the president of APC and northerners Hausa Fulani 101 days in London.
Remain focused on the topic, we are talking of an ASUU debt of N850billion, an amount which was negotiated by GEJ but but which he failed to fulfil its payment.

Yes! govt is a continuum and the current government never mentioned anywhere that it isnt going to pay the debt. But no matter how you try to twist it, it is pure foolishness for anyone to think that the very much richer govt which incurred the debt was a saintly govt, while the much poorer govt which inherited and is struggling to clear the debt is a curse. That is the basis of my previous comment..Pure foolishness..

When did you start reading news, that agreement was signed since 1999
Hmmm... 1999?... maybe you must be reading different news from everyone else. Cos the bone of contention today is from an agreement of 2009 which was re-negotiated with beautiful promises in 2013; and which the then govt never fulfilled.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/breaking-ASUU-begins-indefinite-strike/

The fact of this case is clear to any sound and unbiased mind, the Nigerian government cannot fund education as it should. If the govt could not fulfil these financial obligations when it made far more money, I doubt it can meet up with the obligations now.

My previous comment by the way was in response to a deliberately mischievous and confused chap who labelled GEJ a saint and PMB a curse for being unable to magically clear the huge debts he inherited from GEJ.

during those days i was buying rice at 50naira per cup, maggi star brand was 220per pkt, garri was 7cups for 100naira, fuel was 95naira per litre at 120dolls per barrel of crude oil, beans was 40naira per cup. Whether they rapped una, i was living comfortable.

Now am being rapped, re-rapped n castrated plus, fuel that suppose to be less than 50naira due to the fact that the primaryrawmaterial is almost useless or now free. Cost of living is slapping both the high earners n low income plus no income earners like me.

Anyhow u guys wants to paint gej, whether u termed his policies voodoo abi juju, nigerians were feeding FINE unlike this propaganda driven era of sham.
If you care to know why Nigerians were feeling fine and prices were down back then, all you need to do is to compare the amount of forex entering Nigeria back then and the amount entering now; from the records, it was 5 times more in those years. I guess this should be a common sense thing.

Who is the bigger curse?...

GEJ who got deceived by ASUU to make an impossible promise to ASUU but ended up not fulfilling a single part of the promise despite the fact that his government earned over 5 times more than Buhari and also spent twice the time in Aso Rock than Buhari... GEJ is a saint whom you miss but you think Buhari who inherited the N850billion debt from GEJ and is struggling to clear it in this time of low finances is the cursed one in this matter?

Back to topic..
The blame game here is you referencing to the other guy( GEJ ) not being able to settle ASUU.
Coz i was believe that the other guy in London with Nigerian Antidote, will once in power stablize everythin' even for 1naira=1dollar, reduction in petroleum products and so..
Why the blame till late..
The only reason why anyone still talks about the last guys is because instead of them (the last guys and their supporters) to shut up and hide their faces in shame, they still come on air to insult the intelligence of Nigerians by narrating how saintly and wonderful they were and how bad others are. Every single thing you term 'blame game' today is just a direct response to the provocative utterances of the lieutenants and supporters of the last guys.

This thread for instance talks about how the last admin earned over 5 times more revenue than the current admin and the only reason a report like this (which you may term another blame game) has hit the airwaves is because of the unguarded provocative utterances of GEJ in the recent PDP convention where he bragged about piloting the economy very wonderfully while blaming/castigating the current guys.

Furthermore, this thread also refers to how despite the glaringly little revenue, the current govt has been able to not only meet most basic obligations, but has also been able to clear off several debts and obligations which the last admin was incapable of fulfilling. And what exactly was your response?.... You scolded and asked why ASUU issue hasn't also been fulfilled yet... Like really?... The only reason I responded with that comparison with the last admin was because from the tone of your antagonising question, you obviously sounded very much like a sympathiser of the last admin (forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's exactly what you sounded like).

It's completely pathetic, one would have expected some people to just shut up and hide their faces, but they just feel a compulsion to talk even when they have absolutely nothing meaningful to say.

Here we go again with One-sided thinking and propaganda.
A fair and objective critic would have also included expenditures, statutory disbursements to states and local governments during the same period.

It is very very idiotic and extremely dishonest to keep playing the stale old song that Nigeria earned more from oil sales during the last administration, without also mentioning that Nigeria also spent more on all three arms of government, education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, defence, security, and statutory allocations to states and local governments.

It's time for pro-agenda.
Enough of the propaganda.

Rome definitely wasnt built in a day, so it makes no sense expecting all the accumulated debts to be cleared in a day...

The better question any sincere person should be asking is why these demands of ASUU were not cleared by the last guys who headed the govt when the country earned over 5 times what it is earning currently.

Brother, I wouldnt want to open the canker worms of the abandoned Federal government properties and establishments in the SE because they are littered all over the places for everyone to see. I'm not ignorant of the fact that there are some abandoned fg establishment in some other parts of the country but, none can be compared to the state of infrastructural decay in the entire SE states. This is not an argument even, Osibanjo recognized this during the cause of his various visits in the area. Even the NASS knows about these and every well meaning Nigerians have spoken about this.
Do you think that the agitation for secesion in the SE is without reasons? Do you think that the massive crowds of people you see following Nnamdi KANU are touts or jobless people or that they are beign paid? Do you think that the agitation is just political or that KANU is being sponsored? I don't want to talk much but one thing we need to understand is that if we claim to be one, we should be our brothers keeper. When the south is crying for justice because of marginalization, let the north join hand with the south to address the problem and when north is crying let the south lend their voice in support as well, that's the spirit of brotherhood. It is he who wear the shoe knows where and how it pinches him.
Bro, the FG has abandoned properties all over Nigeria; nothing belonging to the government ever works in Nigeria and this issue is not restricted to the SE as has been advertised and advertised and promoted for so long. Speeches like yours which claims the problem exists mainly in the SE is the reason why there are many people keying into the agitations in the SE. When a message is preached over and over again, everybody gets to believe and even re-echo the message; but that does not necessarily make the message to be absolutely true. If you think the SE is the only area in Nigeria experiencing FG neglect, I would love to hear you mention any thing owned by the FG which works in other zones of Nigeria (besided Lagos and Abuja which happen to be FCTs).

This current episode of attacking GEJ is just in response to the intelligence insulting speech GEJ made recently in the PdP convention. That Nigerians chose not to talk about him does not mean we have forgotten his indiscretions and the disaster he was.

The reason for the abandonment is simply because it's situated in the part of the country where FG has no interest. That's Nigeria for you.
What about all the other abandoned mills and factories that litter the length and breadth of Nigeria?.. What about the numerous abandoned textile mills across the north?... What about Ajaokuta steel plant etc? .. Is there even anything owned by govt which functions in any part of the country at all??... Going by your 'I AM A VICTIM' logic, I guess the FG also abandoned them all because the FG has no interest in any part of the country right?
PoliticsRe: You Left The Nigerian Economy In Tatters" - Buhari Reminds Jonathan by obailala(m):

That's nonsense

Oil was not 120 all through Jonathan time

This is silly excuse to mask cluelessness

Every competent economist in the country agree Buhari policies destroyed the economy and not just down to oil price
Every competent global economist also wrote GEJ off as a clueless waster who supervised the squandering an unprecedented income boom and left Nigeria in unbelievable debt... After enjoying average oil prices above $100 for his entire 5 year reign, is there any sector that wasnt left in debt by 2015?... If there is any, kindly name it?.

With oil price averaging over $100, there was simply enough forex to cater for Nigeria's inordinate thirst for foreign products, therefore Naira value was comfortably subsidized at N160 to a dollar. But as soon as oil prices began falling in late 2014, the Naira instantly nosedived from N160 to N220 within few months; and this was despite the fact that oil still sold above $65 and up to $10billion was spent from the reserves to support the Naira.

Fastforward to May/June 2015, only a measly $28.6bn was left in the reserves (obviously no more free $10bn to support the Naira) and of course oil price kept falling to even $28; but some so called competent scholars and economists think the Naira value could still have been stable and strong because Buhari should have been a magician.

FG should simply sort the youth n leaders n then build those developments by themselves. forget about that ur pipeline bombing stories abeg.
Like I said, you dont have a clue how bad the politics of disbursing niger delta development funds is. You suggest that the youths and elders should be bribed first by govt before building hospitals, roads and schools in their communities?... I'm sure you have no clue how much bribe these people demand, hence why you support the irresponsibility.

And then again, imagine the FG decides to scrap NDDC and 13% derivation (which are specifically meant for projects like this)?... Imagine the FG decides to add those funds to a special office under Fashola's Works ministry for development of these communities. You would be surprised at where nuclear bombs would enter Nigeria from to destroy every single oil facility and bring down production to zero in protest against the FG's decision. And of course, people like you would still come online to blast the FG for marginalising the communities by not releasing development funds to the dubious leaders.

By the way, how come it's always the fault of the FG when little community roads like these are not in good shape? ... I've never heard of the FG not releasing the 13% development funds for these communities to state governments; so how come all the blame always goes to the FG and none to state governments that receive the funds and swallow it?

You have probably never really been to the Niger Delta where the govt has to even pay youths and chiefs some development levy (a.k.a. deve) before being allowed to build roads, hospitals etc. Like I said before, many dont have a clue over the kind of politics of blackmail going on in those communities. If the leaders in those communities wanted Julius Berger, Julius berger would be there in a split second. But majority of them simply want the cash/ contract given to them directly. I understand your position and you may be right. Honestly I don't know what type of facility we are using and if the older generation of such facilities were built without metering system.

Whatever be the case I think either not incorporating a meter system if there were actually none or not fixing the broken metering system is a clear indication of the rot in NNPC.
Blue3k just clarified that the metering facilities actually exist, but are not sufficient, not efficient and have been allowed to deteriorate without any maintenance over the decades, hence metering capacity of NNPc is greatly impaired.

Blue3k:
She said adequate metering system not zero metering. All she really saying is Nigeria doesn't have proper metering system to account for daily production. This issue was supposed to be solved with 2014 Weight and Measures Act. The act was supposed computerised metering system of oil wells. This where the majority of fraud takes place. Oil is siphon from well to pipeline.

Nigeria obviously does measure the crude that goes out for export. They use physical hand-dip measuring at custody transfer point. You can Google more stories about this issue it's no fairytale.
