Bridget95:My dear, you need to understand there is a way the world works. The best time those people you named could have been probed was in the past, soon after they left govt, and the probe could only have been done by the opposing govts. No matter how serious any govt may want to portray itself as in the corruption fight, you realistically can't expect a dog to eat it's own legs. Amaechi, Tinubu and co should have been probed by jonathan, bit he chose to look the other way while everyone plundered. Expecting the current govt now to probe itself, that's very naive thinking. |
And here I have been, asking how Nigeria's reserves were obliterated from over $60bn to $30bn even at a time the nation enjoyed unprecedented income boom. Meanwhile this is just the tip of the iceberg, there are still over 1000 people both in the current leadership and outside with public funds like this stashed in different parts of the country. It will take forever to weed these people and the funds out. And the saddest part of all these is that we have multitude of Nigerians who also suffer the economic hardship and dilapidated infrastructure, but whenever issues like this are reported, they feel an urge to sgow solidarity to their own oppressors. |
Dayum!... this sweaty picture is epic! ![]() www.nairaland.com/attachments/5147656_1781437014084181891806675145947133189442086o_jpeg4a9856e537e87b53ba10663372836586 |
steppins:And how exactly does it matter? |
obiezed:Okay I hear you... |
Dhugal:Apparently, it's still an ambiguous section, hence why it's still being debated by some. When the constitution is reviewed and that area updated to clarify it in black and white, no one would bother debating it anymore, neither will any one bother taking the matter to court. |
obiezed:Do you mean to tell me Ohakim actually left up to N30 billion in Imo state's coffers? Even without being told, do you actually believe that is true?... N30 billion! |
This shouldnt be a problem as long as they dont force or harrass Igbos who dont wish to sit at home for anything. But we all know better... |
Chikelue2000:Between 2010 to 2015, Nigeria earned the highest oil revenue ever, actually it earned more revenue than it had achieved in every other year from 1959 till date put together. But besides the fact that there was an explosion in number of private jet owners in the country, can you kindly point out the infrastructural achievements?... Can you point out any major road that was completed?... can you point out any major power plant that was completed?... how many megawatts of electricity were added to our grid after the govt claimed it spent over $8billion?.... Oil subsidy payment jumped from about N600bn in 2010 to N2.13 trillion in 2011 (the only reaction of the govt was to remove subsidy as it was too scared to confront the subsidy beasts), no refinery was built, old refineries were not fixed, forex savings depleted from over $60bn to $30bn yet we cant point out any major infrastructural development in the period besides a multitude of nobodies becoming billionaires overnight yet here we are, someone thinks boko haram is the ONLY reason Nigerians got tired of GEJ. Well, you may be right, a lot of people rejected him vos of bokoharam, others did just cos of his religion/tribe but there are still quite a handful like myself who rejected him cos of the things I summarised above. |
ProsperOkec:Are we trying to say the community hasnt had water since 1993?.... |
nedu2000:Isnt this just further evidence pointing that it's all politics?.... Igbos sympathetic to APC are against Kanu's secession ideology while those sympathetic to PDP are in support of Kanu/secession. |
What kind of news is this? |
Dhugal:Was the decision on this very case? Didnt know this particular case had been taken to court and judgement passed. |
Hope they finish the project on time. Meanwhile, when shall they start the Calabar to PH section? |
ehissi:Like I said earlier, I'm not a lawyer and don't understand these things. But if there are 2 arguments on this matter, no need for the name-callings and 'I-know-it-all' stance, the court should be allowed to decide. If it was clearly conveyed in the constitution, no 'stupid' lawyers would raise their heads against it... Meanwhile it is because there are numerous of such loopholes in the constitution begging for interpretation, that is why no single 'big man' ever gets convicted in Nigeria especially because they have the (stolen) resources to hire several SANs to come dig-up such loopholes to their benefit. And yeah, lest I forget, it is the duty of the NASS to make these things clearer in the constitution; it is their job to clear the ambiguity. |
Ikpewe:If you considered that this has never happened in Nigeria before, nothing has even come close to 10% of this figure (at least not that I've heard of), then you will realise the question isn't as silly as you think. |
How can an oil block sell for $500billion? |
joelreg:Well, I'm not a lawyer, and neither am I in the legal profession to be able to interpret laws or the constitution. But my comment was based a statement by someone who I believe is in better position to understand the laws and constitution of the country by virtue of his knowledge and vast experience in the legal profession. The statements by Femi Falana (SAN) below: “It will be unfortunate, a tragedy to the country, every public officer has his or her power defined by the constitution. The moment you go outside that you have engaged in impunity. Section 171 of the constitution has vested the power in the president to appoint any person to that office or act in that office and the duration is not specified.https://www.naij.com/1096930-magu-continue-acting-efcc-chairman-falana.html |
alizma:You are absolutely right, the real grouse against Rochas is that he joined APC and openly supported Buhari over GEJ; a decision which didnt go down well with many Igbos. When it comes to performance, anyone who says Rochas isn't working is either lying to himself or is just plain ignorant; most people fall in the 'ignorant' category though cos they've never even been to the state but just base their judgement on the nonsense they read online from haters. Majority of the vocal haters aren't even from Imo state. As far as Imo state is concerned, Rochas' performance even in his first tenure trumps Udenwa and Ohakim (and even Tanko Zubairu and co) put together. The only problem with Rochas may be that he talks too much and the quality of his projects are really suspect (China roads). Besides that, anyone who claims Rochas isn't working (especially when compared with his peers(past and present)) is a clown. |
Chuksonyeike:What makes him illegal?... A bunch of national revenue gulping rogues in the NASS dont want him, is that what makes him illegal? Like has been pointed out a few times, he can keep being the chairman of efcc in acting capacity FOREVER cos the constitution of your country doesnt specify a maximum timeline to which a person can be acting. Secondly, there was no need sending his name to the NASS for confirmation in the first place. The efcc act says he should be sent to NASS for confirmation, but the constitution states otherwise; and when there's a clash between constitution and any other laws, the constitution takes precedent. So I ask again, what makes him illegal?... is it cos some fat bellied shameless rogues who swallow 25% of the nation's recurrent budget dont like him? |
oyimaliski:Was the former governor not a public officer?.. Or was my English too hard? Tell me make I break am down for pidgin for you... |
cktheluckyman:If other presidents did their freaking job, we wouldnt have had so so many looters out there roaming about freely. Now that someone has decided to do the job which his predecessors never bothered to do, it is only wise for him to start with more recent cases where evidence and witnesses still abound. He has to do his own part of the task before he starts rhinking of doing the portion of previous useless leaders. |
cktheluckyman:At least Nigeria has to still try; with any little prove Nigeria has, it is still worth it making an attempt to recover these stolen moneys. If at the end she wons the case, congrats to her, but suggesting that efcc should just look the other way because of your sentimental attachments, it is because there are too many people who reason like you do, that is the exact reason Africa is a shithole. |
slimfit1:Na person wey dem catch be thief.... If the successor president empowered efcc just a little bit, those other first ladoes wouldn't be free. |
ikorodureporta:I assume it's over 5. |
#BlackLivesMatter The unfortunate thing about the hashtag above is that while our minds naturally drift to the whites when we see the slogan above, we conveniently overlook the fact that the biggest killer of black men are black men. ![]() |
Calendermokola:3.49 CGPA isn't bad, but you need to let the recruiter know it's 3.49 and not 3.0. So whenever you write 2.2, always include 3.49 CGPA in bracket as a start... Goodluck! |
blasterman:The man at 03:50 just cracked me up badly... "Abeg get me for the video jare, I was here when it happened" ![]() |
Isiokpukpu:Lol... Carry ur wahala dey go.. ![]() |
Isiokpukpu:Lol... Same way they turned Trump vs Clinton to tribal battle, dem don also turn BBNaija to tribal war too... Pleasure for some peeps only comes from these tribal fights, so you can't really blame them. This your username though @isiokpukpu, na so your head strong reach? ![]() |
Nigeria... The country where NEPA offices have standby generators, IG of police arrested for stealing, EFCC chairman accused of corruption and EFCC also accused of corruption in its recruitment process... |
Light skinned = foreign = polished = refined? Quite sad to note we still have notable Nigerians who still openly harbour this sort of crude self-hating mentality. A severe case of inferiority complex! |
