In as much as I see a Point in your statement, I want you to understand that no matter the propaganda hoisted it will never work if there is no atom of truth in it,
The point where you wrote Buhari been the messiah has not been proven true except we see something that proves so. The truth is we need a serious restructuring of the country or else these will continue, don't be surprised that even if this Biafra issue is tackled another one will still rear it's head.
jpphilips:
There is no truth in Propaganda, it is fueled by ignorance and ignorance alone
On the contrary, there is actually truth in propaganda. But truth becomes propaganda when it is adulterated with some lies and then twisted in such a manner as to achieve a pre-conceived dubious outcome.

Pure truth cannot brainwash a person, pure lies cannot brainwash a person. But when truth is garnished with some underlying lies and dubiously twisted to fit into what the target audience wants to hear, such a mixture becomes a dangerous tool of havoc, such a mixture is called propaganda and such a mixture can get even some of the smartest people brainwashed as long as the preacher is good in his delivery.

Your facts aren't correct. FFK has link to Biafra struggle that predated his party switch. PDP may leverage on the chaos but the present height of the protest was remotely instigated by bad choices of Buhari
Let me complete your statement... "the present height of the protest was directly fuelled by anger over the defeat of GEJ by a northerner and then remotely instigated by bad choices of Buhari."

But then, you couldn't have expected the government to keep quiet or totally ignore the massively growing menace which clearly escalated after the elections. It could have been ignored before now, but it was too loud after the election, and even louder after the government's actions.

Damn you are good. You've really helped me understand the situation better.
But I need to ask you, do you think this govt can deliver its campaign promises as regards the 5k allowance, free food and job creation among others? Taking into cognisance the present financial situation.
Firstly, regarding the 5k allowance, I don't see that happening at all; we need to understand that politicians are politicians, politics is politics and elections are elections. A wise person should know the difference between election jingles and real promises that can be feasible. In answering questions on this promise during the campaigns, the VP made certain ambiguous statements like "paying the poorest and the unemployed," the VP also stated that the promise would be implemented in several phases. I used the word ambiguous because there was never really any definition of what they meant by 'poorest' or 'unemployed' and a timeline to fulfil this promise was never given. For all we know, such a promise could be fulfilled in the next 16 or 20 years because the VP on several occasions when grilled tactfully avoided mentioning timelines but rather stated that the feasibility would be studied when they get into government. Like I said before, a wise man should be able to differentiate between election campaign jingles and real promises. I personally don't even support the idea of paying that allowances; teach me to fish and stop squandering money by giving me fish.

As for the free food promise, that is very feasible at least at the primary level, it was done in Osun state successfully and it's benefits were very overwhelming. Osun state is a very poor state but it could afford to do this when the going was good. I say when the going was good because since the price of oil dropped and the allocation to the state dropped by over 50%, the governor of the state now looks like a devil to those who never knew how 'wonderful' he was when the going was good. Again, the implementation of this is only going to be on a state-by-state basis. More than half of the Nigerian states can actually afford to do this, oil price drop isn't helping matters though.

As for all other promises, Nigeria is a very complex environment and I wouldn't vouch for anyone, most especially a politician or politicians. The only thing I am optimistic about is the massive savings Nigeria can have from the blocking of leaking holes. I'm not optimistic about this government being able to jail any past leader for corruption, but I am quite confident that henceforth, it would be difficult to steal money indiscriminately. The TSA implementation alone has already dealt a deadly blow to looters, the restructuring presently going on in the NNPC which includes cancelling of contracts for middlemen in the importation of fuel, tha will definitely save and make the nation billions of dollars. The current restructuring championed by the current monster we have as the customs boss, if only you have an idea of how much Nigeria can generate from Customs, but all these monies were embezzled in the past; not to talk of the billions of dollars the nation loses through dubious import duty waivers to friends of government. If a contract to fix a road is awarded today, I am very much more optimistic that the project would be executed and not abandoned (cos of money looted), these are the only things I am confident about.

As for job creation and the rest of the promises, when you block the unnecessary looting loopholes as I have mentioned above, you will be shocked at how things would start working. Things worked in Nigeria in the early days, the only thing which changed was that people in positions started being more interested in looting than working. Take away the opportunity to loot, these guys in positions will do the righ job.

I'm from the SE and I don't want to go anywhere. I dont believe that is the solution to any of our problems but you guys have all allowed 'angry' emotions to becloud your judgement and with these emotions clouding your judgement, brainwashing becomes easy. There are lots of pre-requisites we need to satisfy IF we must venture into the idea of secession:

- We need to get our leadership right at the local level (I believe this is the biggest and in fact our ONLY problem). I take a look at the kind of protests we're having at Aba today, imagine we had this kind of protests against charlatans like Orji Kalu and Theodore Orji, Aba would never have been the shit hole it is today. Meanwhile, youths in Edo are presently protesting against bad leadership from their governor, never have I heard of such in the SE.

- There also has to be a well constituted conference with the SS groups to properly map out strategies on proposed leadership, revenue sharing etc. skipping this step dealt a heavy blow to Igbos in the 60's, yet some youths on steroids do not still think it is important in 2015. Instead these youths decided to bash TonyeBarcanista when he bravely decided to speak out the minds of most Niger-deltans. What ever happened to diplomacy instead of the senseless gra-gra?

- We also need to be civil and courteous in our relationships with the rest of Nigeria because ONLY Igbos would lose if we break away through non-peaceful, non-cordial means knowing that we have more of our empire outside of Igbo land.

Lots of other things need to be put in place before youths carelessly jump into the streets spewing insults upon insults on everyone and anyone. If certain pre-requisites are not met, South Sudan will be a child's play compared to what is coming to us. I even personally believe that if these pre-requisites are met, especially the issue of leadership, you would be shocked to find out there would no longer be a need for this clamour. We need to look inwards and see that the greatest problem is within and not outside. There is a reason OJUKWU decided to form the APGA party, it was to solve the problem of leadership. But today, you guys have decided to follow a psycho called Kanu on his road to perdition. I would have said goodluck, but saying goodluck to you might as well bring bad luck to me and my people; so I sincerely hope and pray you wake up from your delusion one day.

GEJ was wise to ignore their hate broadcast but the brainless dullard went on ill fated effort to jam their radio & to a ridiculous arrest of their leader. They all worked out for their favour.
Massob leader was also arrested by past admins, the world didnt fall. I'm not doubting that the agitations were never there before 2015, but it has skyrocketted since PDP lost out at the centre. And knowing the kind of politics we play in Nigeria, you cannot tell me the drowning PDP is not leveraging on this to score cheap political points, 'all politicians do that.' Even a Yoruba FFK is throwing his weight behind an Igbo separatist protest, the same FFK that has always been anti-Igbo before he joined PDP, and now you claim you cannot see the political connection to this?

I understand ur point. But a lot of Nigerians are getting delusioned. We need something to hold on to right now. Though its not the fault of the present govt, but it is their responsibility.
No doubt, the slowness of this government is frustrating, not a single capital project has been started this year. But somehow you cant really blame the government, changing power at the centre from one party to another is a very huge task, it might just involve changing every single thing and this is the first time we are experiencing this type of holistic transition since 1999.

Another thing you need to understand is the 2015 budget. The 2015 budget was very pessimistic and there was next to nothing budgeted for capital projects; even if there wasn't a change in government and we still had GEJ, 2015 would still have been a very cold year without any single progress (you need to go back and study the 2015 budget). Now some might argue that the new government should have changed/amended the budget midyear, but then, this new government is still finding its feet and it has coming at a time of great financial woes.

I can only look forward to 2016 when the present government would have drawn its own budget and I pray the oil prices pick up a little by next year, 'order' is definitely better than 'speed.'

The reasonable Igbos need to speak up, else the entire region will be classified together with the brainwashed urchins parading the streets. The Biafran idea is a dangerous gamble which will definitely set the south east back by several decades, there are lots of pre-requisites which need to be satisfied before any mention of secession should be made. This is not the 60's when there was a pogrom and the pogrom necessitated the instant secession decision; I still do not understand what the basis of this ill-though journey to perdition is in 2015.

I have tried to engage some of the separatists in simple debates on this issue, but their most of them have their brains on a lock down, emotions have beclouded their reasoning and there's nothing that can be said to yank them out of their perilous dream. More reasonable Igbos really need to speak up now, else we might just have another South Sudan in our hands.

Politics › NASS Probes Uncover $15bn Oil Fraud by obailala(op): 9:13am On Nov 10, 2015
The National Assembly has conducted 18 legislative probes into sundry cases of crude theft, pipeline vandalisation, misappropriation, Joint Venture agreements, missing crude revenue in Nigeria’s corruption-tainted oil and gas sector from 1999-2014.

According to the outcomes of the selected major probes in the oil sector, about $15bn was lost to fraud while a whopping $6.8bn subsidy was unaccounted for. The period also witnessed the alleged missing N500bn SURE-P claims for oil subsidy for a period of time.

Also, about $16bn was unaccounted for in the power sector while about N2trillion was unremitted by the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

This information is contained in a recently released study by the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS). The study made public on October 20 contains a detailed report of 82 key probes and investigative public hearings undertaken by the National Assembly since inception.

In 2000, a 14-member House Ad-hoc Committee investigated the federal government’s crude exports and refined imports amongst other oil and gas industry issues for the period of May 1999-2000. The Ibrahim Ganyama-led House Ad-hoc Committee in its findings reported that Nigeria lost $80 million crude revenue from January-August 2000 as a result of NNPC’s failure to follow the statutory empowerment of lifting 300,000 barrels per day.

The Ad-hoc committee described NNPC’s operations, record keeping, and tendering processes as “shoddy” and “fraudulent”.

“Illegal sale of petroleum products becomes a booming business as Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) continues to pay equalisation claims while NNPC continues with endless bridging, and DPR went to sleep in the exercise of monitoring,” the 2000 probe reported.

https://www.leadership.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/nass_11-300x184.jpg

In 2007, a Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigated allegations of impropriety in the handling of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). The Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba-led Committee in its report gave three controversial rulings: (a) that [former] President Olusegun Obasanjo acted outside the law but should be advised to follow due process in the future; (b) that [former] Vice President Atiku Abubakar diverted and mismanaged public funds and should be sanctioned; and (c) that certain other persons, Adamu Maina Waziri, Ahmed Vanderpuye, Hussein Jallo, Hamisu Abubakar and Otunba Johnson Fasawe, should refund money to the federal government and face prosecution.

In 2008, the House investigated former NNPC group managing director, Gaius Obaseki, over the mismanagement of funds of the Corporation. Obaseki was indicted for wasting over N2billion in less than four years on hotel accommodation.

Also in 2008, the House probed operations of the NNPC and its subsidiaries from 1999-2007. The probe uncovered “deliberate and unaccounted” increase in the daily quota of petroleum production against OPEC allocation. It also uncovered funds budgeted for Turn-Around Maintenance (TAM) of the country’s refineries were “misappropriated”.

Nigeria also lost $5.74 crude revenue as a result of NNPC’s shady deals with marketers and “manipulation of prices” of crude allocation to its refineries.

In 2011, the Senate probed oil subsidy expenditure. The Senator Magnus Abe-chaired joint committee found that the NNPC paid itself N847.94 billion even after it had been paid N844.94 billion by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency in 2011, suggesting that the NNPC had been making double withdrawals for years from the public treasury.

In 2012, the Senate investigated the contentious Malabu Oil Field transaction. The Upper House re-opened investigation into an allegation of $1.1 billion round-tripping involving the federal government and two international oil companies – Shell and Eni (Agip) – over the sale of a contentious OPL 245 oil block. No report was submitted.

Also in 2012, a petroleum subsidy probe conducted by the Farouk Lawan-led House Adhoc committee was rocked by a bribery scandal. The probe, however, revealed that $6.8 billion oil revenue was unaccounted for.

The House in 2013 investigated the propriety of contracting the protection Nigeria’s waterways and pipelines to private firms reportedly owned by ex-militants.

In 2013, a Senate Committee that investigated a “missing” N500billion SURE-P fund reported that the NNPC could not account for the N32 removed as subsidy on each litre of petrol sold from January 2012 to September 2013.

Also in 2013, the House launched a forensic inquest into NNPC’s Joint Venture agreements with some multi-nationals. No report was submitted.

In 2014, the Senate probed allegations by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi that NNPC failed to remit $49.8 billion. At the end of the probe, the committee’s report debunked the claim. It also accused Sanusi (now Emir of Kano) of jumping to conclusions and generating falsehood allegation against NNPC.

In the same year, former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke was investigated over allegations of financial recklessness. The probe was inconclusive.

Meanwhile, apart from the numerous probes of the oil sector by the National Assembly, there were other investigative hearings into other areas of national life, some of which produced no tangible outcomes.

In 2009, the House instituted a probe into the about $16 billion allegedly spent on the power sector.

The exercise was perceived by many as one in futility at the beginning but it went ahead to expose the problems with the National Independent Power Projects (NIPPs).

Several contracts were found to have been awarded to people who did not know what to do in the first place, while millions of dollars were paid upfront for the projects. In many cases, the contractors didn’t even know the construction sites.

The Hon. Ndudi Elumelu-led House of Representatives Committee on Power and Steel brought to the notice of Nigerians the true position of the NIPPs but the committee’s report was later itself mired in confusion and another panel was set up to probe the report.

Another legislative intervention by the House in the 7th Assembly, perhaps not implemented, was the probe of the indiscriminate displacement of skilled Nigerians by foreign companies based in Nigeria.

The matter was handled by the Joint Committee on Interior, Labour and Employment and Productivity in 2009. But according to the NILS study report, the joint committee’s report was not available by 2014.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last week Friday directed Federal Ministries of Works and Lands, Housing and Urban Development to urgently prepare action plan for speedy revitalisation of the nation’s vocational training centres.

A statement by the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said Buhari gave the directive at a meeting with the Board of Directors of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

It said that the president was told that, because of shortage of competent construction workers and artisans in the country, construction companies were forced to bring in skilled expatriates.

The statement quoted the president as observing that the practice was very detrimental to his administration’s commitment to boost employment opportunities for young Nigerians.

“Buhari, therefore, pledged that his administration would move quickly to address the shortage of skilled construction workers in the country,” Shehu said.

Also, in 2012 the House probed the remittances by ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government through its Standing Committee on Finance, chaired by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin.

The committee in its findings uncovered a N2 trillion fraud by the executive arm of government after an investigation into the revenue generation and remittance of 60 ministries, departments and agencies of government which showed that top heads of MDAs generate revenue from their agencies’ activities running into trillions of naira but under-declared such revenue while diverting the remaining to other use.

Another issue the House looked into in 2013 – and still generating controversy today – is the status of assets seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A public investigative hearing was organised to unravel the status of all assets seized and recovered by the anti-graft agency since its inception. This was necessitated by complaints from the public on seized assets by the commission, which led to a committee being mandated to find out the status of the seized and recovered assets.

Consequently, it was revealed that between 2003 and 2014, the EFCC confiscated over 200 mansions and large sums of money through 46 forfeiture court orders.

“These landed property, monies, and business concerns which were estimated to be worth in excess of N2 trillion, included bank accounts, shares in blue-chip companies, exotic vehicles, fuel stations, holdings, warehouses and shopping malls among others,” the then Speaker Aminu Tambuwal had stressed.

Tambuwal had lamented the lack of prudent and careful management of these assets, making them go to waste.

The committee had noted “cases of vandalism, abandonment, and waste of hitherto operating companies prior to forfeiture, lack of clarity in their use while litigation is on, coupled with the reported breach of the seal of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and attempts at unlawful and forceful repossession by those whose properties which had been confiscated.”

The Biafran agitation would have been sensible if it were a thought-out one and not one that runs on sentiments and clannishness. They are nursing a deeprooted hatred against many people courtesy of their Fathers wrong believes that they are more unique than any tribe in Nigeria. peedeeasobie:
I will give my opinion on this "Biafra protest" going on!

What is this protest for?
Are they protesting against the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu or are they protesting for an independent Biafra nation?
If its the first, I really don't see anything wrong with it. Since the court has granted the said person bail and the bail conditions have been met, his detention is illegal.

But if its the second, then I have few but strong concerns...
(1) why do they want this Biafra nation?

A lot of people will say marginalization.
The question is, who is marginalizing who?
Is the Hausa marginalizing the Igbos?
Or is the Yoruba marginalizing the Igbos?
Or is Nigeria marginalizing the Igbos?

To say that the Hausa or Yoruba is marginalizing the Igbos will be an acceptance of defeat.
Why would another ethnic group/tribe marginalize the Igbo?
Could it be that they are better?
Could it be that they are more in number?
Could they be better economically?
Why are the Igbos not marginalizing them?

To say that Nigeria is marginalizing the Igbos will also raise some questions... Why?
Why would the Igbos allow the country to marginalize them?
Let me state some things here...
As I am writing this post now, there is a protest going on in Edo state against the governor because of the poor state of the roads.
How many Igbo states have protested against their governors?

T.A Orji governed Abia state for 8 good years, how many protests was organised against him? His governance was so bad that if you enter Aba, tears will come out of your eyes yet he won election for the second tenure and also to the senate! Abia almost went into extinction, yet no protest!
His son, who terrorized is member of Abia state house of Assembly! In a sane clime, that man ought to be in prison but... He is Biafra!

Rochas Okorocha, is in his second tenure, Imo state is almost a failed state, everything is in limbo, yet no single protest. Workers are owed, pensions are unpaid for months and the man is moving with private jets, no protest!

Kema Chikwe from Imo state was one time minister for aviation, check out Imo airport during and after her time. It was in a deplorable state!
Do we talk about Ojo Maduakwe, Charles Soludo, Chimaroke Nnamani, Polycap Nwite, Orji Uzor Kalu (turned Abia state to a family business), Ken Nnamani, Martin Elechi, Sam Egwu, Etc.
These men and many have at one time held very influential positions in Nigeria, what did they do for the Igbos?

What did they do with the monthly allocations they were given? What of the security bills?
How have they helped the states?
How many protests have been organised against these wicked and selfish Igbo leaders?
Go and check how rich most of these so-called leaders are? Go and find out the amount of monies they have stolen from your government.

You are fighting the wrong battle! You are fighting the wrong people. Hausas are not your problem. Yorubas are not your problem! You are your problem.
If Igbos finally gain the 'much wanted' independence, who will lead them? These same greedy leaders?

No serious nation starts out agitation for self determination like this! Unless the nation is planning to be a failed state before it even starts.

There must be a long term plan/goal!
What do the igbos want to achieve within the next 20 years? Start planning and implementing.
You cannot have majority of your youths as Okada riders and hawkers, yet you want your own nation!
Start building unity!
There must be orientations, sanitization of greed and selfish mentality.
There also must be specific and well directed educations.
There must be demand for excellent governance from leaders!

You are protesting against the wrong people!
Protest against your leaders who have kept you in abject poverty, who have amassed so much wealth to your detriment and that of your children!
You have have asked very vital questions and I will advise you not to ever be moved by the insults and slander you get from the pro-secessionists. I have also asked so many of these questions myself and there is never an answer except insults. In fact, with the barrage of insults I get on a regular basis, at a point I was almost beginning to wonder if I was truly not an Igbo man like they keep telling me. But then, I learnt how to ignore the insults. The brains of these guys have been so fried in the oil of delusion, they've been so brainwashed that it is next to impossible to have them settle down for a reasonable debate. The most unfortunate thing is that due the widespread poverty in the land, they would keep gathering easy followers and sypathisers like a wild virus.

All I can say is that you should never give up in asking those questions, I beleive the only reason this virus of delusion is spreading like a wild fire is because as usual, those gifted with wisdom have decided not to speak up.

For all those whose brains can only see the man's tribe/ethnicity in this appointment, to hell with all of you. God proved his love for Nigeria the day he made an old hag called Buhari to win an incumbent president. That election result proves that the nay-sayers and doom prayers are highly outnumbered.

God bless Nigeria!

Petroleum Profit Tax which normally forms the largest chunk of FIRS revenue has taken a significant dip (up to 60%) in 2015 for reasons we are all aware of, hence the large difference. A general look at the figures shows there is a significant increase in non-oil taxes from what we had in 2014.

Nigeria urgently needs to diversify its economy.

Is that so? What then is Buhari approving if the LASG is going to finance the project strictly on their own.
FG Approval was for the Right-of-Way

The Federal Government has at last approved the construction of the $2.4 billion Lagos Red Line Rail Project after eight years of negotiation.
...
He said approving the right of way for the project had been a problem for years as the FG in the previous administration was foot-dragging in approving the right of way which belonged to the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC.
...
“It took us four and half years to get approval for the project. It took us another four years to get them to discuss the technicality of the project with us. The right of way has been approved and we are in full discussion with the bidders,” he said.
...
He said Lagos was the only state in the world to have embarked on such project without support from the FG, adding that such projects normally take around seven years to complete.

The commissioner said it took Dubai, with all its resources seven years to complete its rail project and in some places, 22 years.

It doesn't make any sense. Why will the Lagos State government spend 2.4 billion dollars to construct 27 kilometer rail line? It does not make any financial sense.
Building a rail line inside a densely populated city like Lagos is not beans. It would actually be cheaper to build a rail line from Lagos to Ibadan than to build same line 'inside' Lagos.

Nigerian commonwealth spent specifically to build up Lagos and Abuja, tomorrow peeps will start bragging about how their sophistication built Lagos.
This project is been done by the LASG.

The only reason why anyone would be silly enough to claim that their sophistication built Lagos is because someone else was silly to claim that his kinsmen are solely responsible for developing all of Lagos. Silly statements are usually prompted by another silly statement.

If the protest was really about Igbo interest we would have joined but we all know that it is a manipulation of the gullible by those who lost power in 2015 elections. Imo State suffered so much neglect under Jonathan and now that it is our turn to enjoy federal presence they want to scatter things. We no gree.
Gbam! grin

But come to think of it, why haven't we seen or heard of IPOB protests in any part of Imo?

May we know how much the quarterly average was in preceding years?.... Please does anyone have an idea what the average was before now?... Cos there's no way we can confirm if this is progress or retrogression without a side-by-side comparison.

Aisha Alhassan cannot become Governor until the supreme court rules so(which will never happen)

For now the only option she has is to be a minister which she will gladly take!!
Lol.. Dreamer Chukwudi... Unlike the case of Wike, PDP has absolutely no case in this Taraba judgement. The worst the supreme court can do is call for a rerun, but PDP will not be able to field a candidate. I wonder if it is KOWA or APGA that would then defeat APC in Taraba.

I remember a similar case in Imo state in 2007, PDP could not produce a candidate on time and as such was barred from the election. Using federal might, the PDP proceeded to strike a deal with Ohakim of PPA and that was how a totally unknown Ohakim (who didnt even have election posters) won a very popular Martins Agbaso of APGA; such treachery of PDP. Rochas emerging under APGA in 2011 was a determined payback for the treachery of 2007. I am patiently waiting to see how PDP will rape Nigerians again with such impunity in this case of Taraba, Karma is indeed a freaking biiitch.
