Being a senseless tribal bigot cannot and will never be the yardstick to measure Igboness. There are too many sensible Igbos out there and it would be a disservice if I keep quiet and allow the public perception of my tribe to be built on your sort of mentalities.. I am sorry, I do not owe you any further explanations.

You're always masturbating on Igbo issues.

Check the records for the past decades by consulting Google and see that the previous cut-off points have been set abnormally high for Igbo States. Other States results have been much lower than this year's in comparison to Igbo's.

You dare accuse Igbos of self-centeredness, even when you know that Igbos have shown more 'Nigerianness' than your most preferred tribe?

As per hatred, such hatred had commenced in full gear since the days of Ahmadu Bello.
In case you're not in the know bid me to show you historical facts to back my assertion.
I am a full blooded Igbo man so it is my business when I see people bringing ridiccule to my tribe. Imo, Anambra, Delta, Ogun and Osun have consistently had the highest cut-off points and are regarded as the most educationally advantaged states in Nigeria. Continually insisting that it is an Igbo only issue will only expose you as an iredeemable tribal bigot and this repulsive acts is what mainly attracts resentment to Igbos by other tribes who also suffer from this same discrimination.

I do not know how some of you were rasied by your parent but you need to rid yourself of this retrogressive mentality. Stop ridiculing yourself!

Why do you have to title the thread "Injustice Against Igbos" even when it is clear that there are several other states/tribes from both the SW and SS that are equally dissadvantaged by this same issue?...

Are you aware it is little acts of self-centeredness like this, when done in excess that makes every other tribe hate the Igbos today?

You have simply defeated the purpose of this thread by making it look like a problem suffered by Igbos alone. We need to put aside this "everyone wants to hurt me mentality" and understand that the problems we faced is a general one.

The rapid pace of London life and never-ending exciting activities will soon make you exhausted and you would like to take a short break before exploring new marvels of London city. Hyde Park is the best place to unwind, being away from city hustle and bustle. It is one of the eight Royal parks of London and one of the greatest parks in the world in the area of 142 hectares. Hyde park offers wide choice of activities for you to –swimming, horse riding, cycling, boating, tennis, and in winter you can also enjoy ice skating.

Hyde park is a small piece of paradise, where tranquility, about 4000 trees and Serpentine Lake create an ideal atmosphere for relaxing and forgetting about real life. Besides, the park is popular because of its fascinating landmarks such as Serpentine Lake, Rotten Row, Diana Memorial Fountain and the most famous of all -Speaker’s corner.

Rotten Row is a 6,4 kilometers long path created by William III in the 17th century. He found that the road from Kensington to Westminster is very dark and dangerous so he ordered to light it by 300 oil lamps thus creating the first lit road in England.
Just wondering, what's the essence of this piece?

Why the lie she was in court while actually she wasn't. Okay, tell me, what's the charge against her?
Someone tarnishes the lives of millions of Nigerians and also tarnishes the presidency of Mr Ebele and some warrior here is concerned about her image because of an error in report about her appearing in court today... Look here young man, the greatest joy of well meaning Nigerians is that she was arrested by UK authorities and not in Nigeria, else some jobless plebs would have printed placards and started protests using the very same line of argument you are presently using.

If you are asking what the charge is against her, I would advise you to get a visa, go to London and ask them that silly question. As far as reasonable Nigerians are concerned, there is great joy in the land over this news of the arrest of the queen of thieves.

Meanwhile, you can go to rest with the content of this tweet by the court; that she was not arraigned in court today does not mean she was not in court. So the original news report wasn't even wrong after all.

Ovaiegbe:
You are right to talk about subsidy protest arising from the removal of subsidy (so an open market can determine the price of oil products). However, when you make comparison, please state all the facts. "A little mathematics, at N575 million daily, that would equate to about N210billion annually (with Brent selling at $48). Not too long ago in 2011, Nigeria paid N2.13Trillion for the same subsidy and after all the protests and exposes, Nigeria paid approximately N1trillion per annum (with Brent sellint at $110!) for the subsequent years."
You are convenient selective in your use of data for the purpose of your argument.
In 201, the then opposition's claim was that subsidy was a fraud(probably still is). Question is,
1. Is the fraud still going on?
2. Despite falling oil price, do we still need to pay subsidy?
I am not being selective, in fact if I decide to give full details, it would be worse than I summarised it to be earlier.

- A reduction in global oil prices from $110 to $48/barrel => 56% reduction
- A reduction in subsidy bill from N2.13 trillion to N210 billion => 90% reduction

Now you may want to argue that petrol pump price was increased by N32 (to N97/litre) so let's consider the subsidy bill after the increase (also assuming that the global oil prices stayed at the highest of $110). Subsidy bill for 2012 to 2014 were approximately N1trillion per year

- A reduction in subsidy bill from N1Tn to N210bn => 80% reduction

Now note that the government in late 2014 actually reduced the pump price of petrol by N10 (means more subsidy). Therefore, the actual reduction in subsidy bill should actually be well more than 80%. Now I would implore you to compare this 80%+ to the reduction in global oil prices of 56% (note that this value of 56% is assuming the oil prices remained at maximum of $110 till last month).

In summary, after ruminating on the simple figures above, if you still think there's some form of fraud in the system (as a matter of fact I also do), then this little analysis above gives you a vivid description of the devilish magnitude of this fraud between 2011 and 2015.

Bro, there is absolutely no basis of comparison of the subsidy fraud of 2011 - 2014 to what we have presently; Nigeria was bled to a standstill by the subsidy cabal and the immediate ex-president couldn't do a thing about it. The only reason why the economy didnt crash was because oil prices were consistently high but even people like NOI kept screaming at the top of her voice that the subsidy payments would crash the economy. Fast-forward to late 2014, oil prices slumps and even the FG had to borrow to pay common salaries, the CBN was also forced to officially devalue the naira, and these all happened swiftly within a month or 2 after the oil price crash. That was definitely a clear sign of a failed economy.

hmmmm..guy...no matter how much buhari fights corruption we would remain static if states are not allowed to explore their resources and internally generate revenues and jobs to tackle poverty...no matter how much the northerners and partly the south westerners run away from the truth true federalism is the way out..we all need to stop being parasites and look within us that each zone can be great provided we become sensible and think development...for how long do you think the whole agbaya called nigeria can continue to feed on the oil in the Niger delta whilst we have other avenues to become rich and Prosperous as a nation.... buhari should do it...he has if not less than 8 years to accomplish it..If buhari claims to be a progressive and not a bigot let him ensure resource control/true federalism...until then we would be stagnant as a nation...
Like I mentioned earlier, we need to face reality, I don't see a buhari pushing for resource control/true federalism. Even if he tries it, his northern brothers will assassinate him. However, something I know Buhari can do is to drastically reduce the corruption and tradition of looting in higher places and thereby make governance less attractive financially. When that is done, Nigeria will start attracting true patriots as leaders who want to serve and no longer those who just want to be richer. Again when this happens, the question of resource control will definitely resurface. I am only being realistic and supporting Buhari to achieve the bit I know he can definitely achieve for Nigeria (reduce corruption).

Regarding the possibility of true federalism/resource control happening in Nigeria, it is ONLY the NW and NE that are totally against that. The NC only tags along with the rest of the north because the south has never been serious or gotten it's act together to put up a reasonable fight. It is very possible to achieve true federalism in Nigeria but that is only on one condition; that's if the SW, SE and SS put their silly differences aside and unite for this singular purpose. If the south unites and forms a formidable force, I am sure the NC (middle-belt states precisely) will pitch their tent with the south because they also have massive natural resources and are also tired of the hausa-fulani domination over them. But as long as the SW and SE are continually on each other's necks foolishly accusing each other of being the 'problem of Nigeria,' the real problem of Nigeria (the NW & NE) will continue to laugh at us even as they draw everyone backwards.

Fellow Nairalanders, I am the op of the thread on "How have you been surviving without a job?"
I have a friend who works with Shell, hes actually a childhood friend we grew up together. We have been apart for long cos he works in Warri while I reside in Lagos.
Recently we hooked up again via Facebook and we got talking on phone about life and all. Told him my jobless situation and he got very concerned about my plight. He promised to do something about it cos I was very open with him, didn't hide or form. He requested for my CV which I quickly edited, refined and wired to his email. He said he would submit it to some senior people in Shell.

About a month later he called me and told me something has come up. That there is 6 a year contract job that will be coming up in October and that I need to acquire a particular training (HUET) without which I can't work in the upstream. He said its normally free but the man in charge of recruiting people said since am just a referral, I have to pay for the training. He said the training is 65k which I confirmed and its true.

Now he promised to pay part of the training fee (40k) for me and said I should take care of the remainder.
I trust this guy (he is my very good friend from same community) but you know people can change suddenly.

I just need advice from people who know about this kind of stuff, if its possible or not. Its small money (25k) but I wouldn't want to be scammed off the little money am surviving with as am currently managing myself. I don't even have the money now but I can run round and get it.
He told me they are waiting for Buhari to announce his cabinet before the project starts and that he will call me.

Please advice me should I give it a shot?

All I am going to ask is, hope you spoken with him on phone?... hope all communications regarding this cash haven't been based on facebook/email?

There's hardly anyway you can know if he's scamming you, you just have to trust him except you can't really afford the money. 25k is a large amount for someone who's not working, but then, it's a small amount to pay to get a job in Nigeria.

No doubt, the status-quo as regards things like federal character could pass as the greatest recipe for disaster/retrogression. However, I believe Nigeria has taken a single step forward by making attempts to reduce corruption and mismanagement. There are still many steps left to be taken though; for instance, I don't see a Buhari tackling the retrogressive federal character policy (for very obvious reasons), but I would definitely support him in his present efforts (corruption) which is a step in the right direction. I will also pray that whoever takes over after PMB should continue from where he stops and in addition to corruption, also tackle the federal character and federalism issue.

Imaima, don't fall for that guy. He has no point.

The average consumption of PMS in Nigeria is estimated at 40 litres/day. What the papers do is to take subsidy Per Litre of PMS and multiply with this 40 million figure to arrive at the ESTIMATED subsidy payment.

For instance, the paper reports that subsidy Per Litre in June was N51.61 while total daily subsidy was estimated as N2.06b. If you observe, N2.06b = 51.61 X 40m.

Similarly, the paper also reports that subsidy Per Litre as at Sunday is N14.39 while total daily subsidy is estimated as 575m. If you also observe, N575 = 14.39 X 40m. So, in both cases, the same estimated consumption of 40million litres/day is used.

If, indeed, our daily consumption has gone down below 40m due to improved power supply, then the ACTUAL subsidy payment per day will even be less than the estimated N575m.
Absolutely... There's been a massive reduction in fuel demand and not to forget the considerable improvement in production from local refineries. Overall, Nigeria should have a much reduced subsidy bill today, much lower than the estimated N575million/day.

I also believe dt d demand for PMS as dropped cos of increase in power generation. This cud account for some part of 71% subsidy drop

Just saying ooo
Do not ignore the very important part of the report where it says the subsidy per litre of PMS has reduced from N51.61 to N14.39. You are absolutely right about the reduction in subsidy payments due to reduction in fuel supply and even the improvement in production from our refineries, however, the big point is, the subsidy per litre of PMS has reduced from N51.61 to N14.39. SO when you even factor in the reduction in demand, this could mean even much less payments than the estimated N575million.

Politics › Re: Subsidy On Petrol Falls To N576m Daily by obailala(m):
GudluckIBB:
From a high of N51.61 per litre on June 11, 2015, subsidy on every litre of Premium Motor Spirit consumed in the country has dropped to N14.39, data obtained from the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency on Sunday showed.

The dip in the subsidy payable by the Federal Government is partly due to the sustained decline in global crude oil prices, which have continued to trade below the $50 per barrel mark in recent weeks.

The global benchmark Brent crude, which fell below $50 per barrel in January, rebounded to $65 in June, pushing up the subsidy on petrol. However, Brent traded around $48 per barrel on Sunday.

Subsidy refers to the money paid, usually by the government, to keep prices below what they will otherwise be in a free market system.

The PPPRA, in its latest pricing template released on Friday, October 2, 2015, stated that the landing cost and Expected Open Market Price (total cost) of petrol were N85.90 and N101.39 per litre, respectively.

This is against a regulated retail price of N87 per litre. The difference between the EOMP and the retail price is, therefore, N14.39.

According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the country consumes about 40 million litres of petrol daily.

By multiplying the volume of petrol consumed across the country on a daily basis with the current amount spent on subsidising the product, it means that the government spends about N575.6m on subsidy, down from N2.06bn in June 11.

Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer, relies on importation for most of its fuel needs as the country’s refineries are in a poor state.

The landing cost is the cost of the product plus freight rate at N75.03; trader’s margin, N1.47; lightering expenses, N4.19; Nigerian Ports Authority fees, N0.77; financing cost, N1.68; jetty depot throughput charge, N0.8; and storage charge, N3.

The addition of the distribution margins to the landing cost gives the EOMP (total cost). The distribution margins comprise retailers, transporters and dealers’ profits as well as bridging fund, marine transport average and admin charges.

Retailers get N4.6; transporters, N2.99; dealers, N1.75; bridging cost is N5.85; marine transport average, N0.15; and the admin charge, N0.15. The sub-total margin stands at N15.49.

When added to the landing cost of N85.90, the EOMP of N101.39 per litre is arrived at.

The Federal Government had on January 18, 2015 announced the reduction in the pump price of petrol from N97 to N87 per litre, attributing this to the decline in global crude oil prices.

http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/subsidy-on-petrol-falls-to-n576m-daily/
Between June and October, world oil prices fell from $65 to $48/barrel, but Nigeria's subsidy bill dropped from N2billion to N575million daily within this period, i.e. World Oil prices fell by 26% but Nigeria's subsidy bill dropped by 71%.

Now I think that is a major drop in the subsidy bill and no doubt, this is only due to a more prudent and responsible administration being in place.

A little mathematics, at N575 million daily, that would equate to about N210billion annually. Not too long ago in 2011, Nigeria paid N2.13Trillion for the same subsidy and after all the protests and exposes, Nigeria paid approximately N1trillion per annum for the subsequent years.

...and with some of these things, some would still beat their chests and ask what the CHANGE is. May God forgive us!
