rozayx5:Isnt this a travesty of common sense?... We all know that PDP has a strong structure in Akwaibom so why do they have to cause irregularities?.... Why do they have to snatch ballot boxes and divert ballot papers? |
Eziachi: This statement is absolutely true. There are certain situations where a wise person simply needs to keep quiet, watch and then do whatever he/she has in mind without having to be loud or provocative about it. The way in which we Igbos openly scream and associate with Jimi and also brag about our large population and political influence in Lagos has just fuelled a needless tribal war between the Igbos and Yorubas. If you turn the tables around, I'm sure the Igbos would equally feel bad if placed under similar circumstances. Right now even some Yorubas who originally preferred Jimi are now having a rethink because the Lagos election has been reduced to a needless and senseless battle of tribal supremacy of which it absolutely ought not to be. Furthermore, I think it is also senseless and provocative for anyone to argue about the ownership of Lagos. Lagos by all standards may be termed a No Man's Land but that is not to say the land doesn't originally belong to the Yorubas. For several decades, everyone has lived peacefully in Lagos without bad blood; everyone is welcome to come and go at any time and everyone is even welcome to settle. However, it becomes rather provocative to the original owners on the land if anyone for any reason begins to brag and claim ownership of Lagos because they have a large population and have attained economic prosperity. Such a needless and provocative claim only leads to one outcome, 'bad blood/enmity' for whoever makes the claim (history all over the world proves this). It becomes even worse when the person or tribe making the claim truly have an intimidating population and successful profile. In line with the quoted statement above, being quiet and inconspicuous in certain situations remains the purest form of wisdom. |
jimi4us:This irrational thinking and paranoia exhibited by some Igbos continues to get more and more irritating. Fashola's government 'deported' destitute beggars to Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Anambra. I do not understand how this has been interpreted to mean that Fashola hates Igbos. What about the Yoruba beggars that were also 'deported'?... I do not understand why this act has been used to generate and fuel unnecessary hatred and ethnic division; what nonsense!!... Does it also mean that Fashola hates Yorubas from other states too? Why do the Igbos propagating this hate speeches and propaganda conveniently forget that Governor Peter Obi of Anambra also 'deported' destitute beggars to Akwa-Ibom and Ebonyi states respectively?... Does this also mean that Peter Obi is a hater of Ibibios and fellow Igbos?... Why are the Ibibios not threatening fire and brimstone or preaching hate against the Igbos? Why is no one talking about the beggars 'deported' by Amaechi from port-harcourt?... Why is no one talking about the beggars Akpabio 'deported' from Akwa-Ibom?.... Why is it only Fashola everyone knows? We (Igbos) need to stop this unnecessary and counter-productive campaigns of calumny and hate. We need to stop this vindictive attitude of antagonising everybody, it doesn't help anyone and it has never helped anyone (just the same way a constantly nagging wife can never make her husband better through her nagging). It only makes others get irritated by our presence. |
Haha... I think she would have to vote based on merit |
How I just wish this Wike of a man would just lose this election. The man is just an uncouth tout! |
sanandreas:Of course you cant stop people that you haven't caught. The statement simply means he wouldn't watch and smile like GEJ while everyone (both enemies and his friends) loots the country dry. |
kodded:The point is that they wouldnt be allowed to steal henceforth. It doesn't matter if they stole under OBJ, Yaradua or GEJ, but onwards from May 29th, NEVER AGAIN! |
EverestdeBliu:Down!... Cat is going down. Take a close look at the stairs, the nose (protrusion) of the stairs can only be on the tread (horizontal area). www.nairaland.com/attachments/2283088_0000cat_jpegac6fc7a0c90cb53306e436b03fa47035 https://www.jacobsenrugs.com/Gifs/tread-riser.gif |
Even after APC, Tinubu and Ambode have denounced the Oba's statement, how can Rochas actually come out to say this?... To whose benefit or loss would Rochas be saying this?... Isn't this just another bare faced silly propaganda by one mischievous dolt behind a computer trying to deceive Imolites not to vote Rochas on Saturday? Even if Rochas is a primary school pupil with an infant brain, I don't believe he would make this statement days to his election. How come it's only quack blogs that report this story? Video or Adonbilivit! |
kay29000:Buhari was contesting against Jonathan, hence he was Jonathan's main rival. Bokoharam was fighting against the Nigerian state and since GEJ was clueless on how to tackle them, the insurgency kept rubbishing his govt. So if both BH and Buhari were against Jonathan, then Buhari and BH must be one and the same. Simple logic by simple minds!... and this is termed, SIMPLE MINDEDNESS |
jamace:I can swear with my life that Buhari won the election. Just the same way I can also swear with my life that Jonathan won the election in 2011. Let's stop deceiving ourselves, you cannot compare the population of the North to the SE/SS... and then to complicate matters, the SW and middle belt pulled their support from Jonathan. Only a miracle or a mad case of rigging could have made Jonathan win this election. Seriously, did you really look at the results of all the online polls?... Why do people actually think Jonathan could have won this election with just the SE/SS votes? |
In 2011, the Igbo gave Goodluck Jonathan a decisive 5 million votes. The task of INEC in 2015 was to ensure that did not recur.Absolutely irritating rubbish! Sometimes I wonder where these people generate these senseless one sided emotional statistics from. How can anyone in his right senses say INEC disenfranchised voters in the SS and SE but not in the north?... In terms of PVC, did Femi also check the millions of people who couldnt also get PVCs in the north?... or did his research start and end in the SS & SE? Femi says the SE produced 5million votes in 2011 but couldn't do up to 50% of that in 2015. Did Femi also care to check the drastic reduction of votes in the north west and north east between 2011 and 2015?... or did his research also end just in the SS/SE? Comparing the population of both regions, did Femi expect the SS/SE to produce the same number of voters as the NW and NE? The greatest invention which checkmated the impunity of election rigging was the use of card readers. The use of the card readers reduced the voting outcome in the north by well more than 50%. This was also the case in the SS/SE even though we still got unbelievable figures from Rivers State and Delta. The election results showed a voter turnout of about 50% in the north (including places like Kano and katsina); this wouldnt have been the case if not for the card readers. Ironically, states like Rivers and Delta produced almost 70% voter turnout which is clearly indicative of 1 thing, rigging!.. But obviously Femi In summary, there were elements of rigging in the north and also clear evidence of rigging in the SE/SS however even in a free and fair election devoid of rigging, Jonathan would still have lost this election. |
sCun:If I remember right, it was Rochas (an Igbo man) that scolded fellow Igbos for not voting any Igbo senator/representative. |
dipo1234:So the singular driving factor behind your choice of leader is simply a desire to punish 1 man because he said rubbish?... So you have just decided who should be your leader all because of the careless outburst of 1 man who ironically isnt even in the APC ? Nigerians sure have very interesting priorities. |
mansuetusmichae:Rubbish! Is the Oba an APC spokesperson?... Was it APC that asked the Oba to make the misguided statement?... Aren't you aware that even the APC has since distanced itself from the Oba's statement?... SO why should you allow the vituperations of the Oba who isn't even in the APC force you to change allegiance and vote PDP?... Think about it, that is merely your emotions playing an irrational game with you. |
Sepp360:Are you suggesting Nigeria should remain a one party state forever?... I think the 2 party system is very healthy for our democracy. The real issue is, why do the Igbos and Yorubas have to fight all the time? |
While the general elections approached, I was really excited about the inexplicable disappearance of the sickening tribal arguments and insults between the Yorubas and Igbos which was a previous tradition on this forum. Everyone seemed to have pitched their tent with either the PDP or APC and while it lasted, we enjoyed a season free of the sickening tribal slurs. I always prayed we wouldn't go back to that horrible tradition but unfortunately, it seems we couldn't even wait for the elections to be over. The Igbos restarted by accusing the Yorubas of betrayal for teaming/conspiring with the Hausas to unseat their GEJ. This to me was a baseless accusation because there was never any agreement between both tribes to support GEJ. The Yorubas reserve a right to vote or support whoever they want; in 2011, they gave GEJ over 90% of their votes (even though they had their kinsman as his vice then). In 2015, probably due to GEJ's less than stellar performance, majority Yorubas (57%) shifted their support to GMB (even though 43% of the SW still stuck with and supported GEJ). I do not understand why this is regarded as betrayal leading to hostilities especially as no agreement was even signed between both tribes. Then probably in response to the anger and accusations of the Igbos, the Yoruba Oba of Lagos made a misguided, inciting and insulting threat against the Igbos; a careless statement which may cost APC the Lagos state governorship and further fuel hatred between both tribes. Also, the recent misguided statement by Kunle Afolayan, a respected movie producer accusing and openly insulting Igbos of piracy has also not helped matters as it has just poured more fuel into a raging flame. Now we seem to have been sunk back into an even deeper lagoon of hatred; the next dispensation of tribal battles on Nairaland could be really messy. How can this senseless battle be averted? God help us! |
WisdomFlakes:Gone are the days when rigging easily wins for people. Lagosians are more enlightened and rigging is much more difficult these days. Even with Lagos being an APC state, go and take a look at the presidential election results of last week and see the close chase the PDP gave. |
EDhims:Noted and corrected! |
Delta is a 99% PDP state. Also, Delta North areas (where Okowa comes from) has a large voting population and this is the first time they are producing a governorship candidate. Hence, Okowa has a high chance of winning. Ogboru is loved by a lot of people and has been robbed consecutively by the PDP in previous elections; his only chance would have come if he joined APC this time around but he always seems to fraternise with insignificant parties. Furthermore, with APC fielding an Urhobo man also, this would share the votes of the massive Urhobo population O'Tega may be in the ruling party APC but I dont see him as a popular candidate at all. Also, he would be sharing the votes of the Urhobo population with Ogboru. My final verdict, PDP wins, followed by LP and followed by APC. |
quixotic:The Oba of lagos is not a Yoruba or APC spokesperson but unfortunately, in our usual irrational emotional manner, it will be difficult to convince a lot of people about this. Inciting statements like that actually raise emotions which block the sense of logical reasoning in people. It would take some time before the emotions die down but since Saturday is just a few days from now, I'm afraid this misguided statement by the oba can cost Ambode the governorship. |
Jorussia:What has the decision of voting a thorough breed Yoruba man Jimi Agbaje got to do with "claiming other peoples land as their own"? How did this issue degenerate to this level? |
abduljabbar4:Yes Ambode condemned it but you should know how humans reason. Humans, especially Nigerians are very emotional and flimsy things like this actually dictate the way we reason and live our lives. Our priorities are based on very silly things such as a statement from this man who isnt even an APC person. Sometimes I wonder, what if the Oba actually wants Jimi to win and has just used reverse psychology to deceive people into voting for Jimi?... It takes only a smart person to know that the careless statement of the Oba shouldn't sway his votes, but we are talking of Nigerians here. ![]() |
Unfortunately the misguided statement of the oba has just cost Ambode the governorship. A lot of people who weren't necessarily on any camp would tend to lean to the side of Jimi in protest against the oba's indiscretion. Never underestimate the power of emotions; the timing of the Oba's statement was also very bad because it would take a while before the negative emotions created by the statement dies down. Unfortunately, the election is only in a few days and this irrational emotion would swing a lot of votes in favour of Jimi. I term the emotions 'irrational' because the choice of thousands of people have just been changed out of anger created by the statement of one irrelevant man who isn't even in the APC; an ordinary APC supporter as the case may be but his careless statement has just influenced the decision of a lot of peopl. |
Another demented fellow still hasn't recovered from the loss of his candidate... Buhari is Nigeria's president elect, live with it or go and die... Others have moved on but you are still here trying to spew hate messages and false propaganda even after defeat, yet you call someone else an Anti-Christ? |
The Oba in his little wisdom has just placed a heavy impediment on Ambode's candidacy;he has just set Ambode up to lose the election. |
ZKOSOSO: While we are still struggling to come to terms with the ethnic/tribal division in this case, another idiotic theorists is now trying to include religion into the mess. |
DickDastardly:..and what makes him a Judas if I may ask?... for daring to see what others refused to see?... for daring to think out of the box?... If Rochas had decamped 2 weeks to the election into APC then we could say he was a Judas but this is a man who had a foresight a very long time ago and decided to join the bandwagon of change. Now for daring to foresee the future and play his political card properly, he is now a Judas. Igbos should better wake up, it's unthinkable that a whole ethnic group would collectively fall into a deep senseless slumber. |
It's a shame that the Igbos have reduced themselves to the most vocally tribalistic humans in Nigeria... Others may be tribalistic but at least they hide it but Igbos have just taken this too far. Hate will do nothing but eat up the soul of the hater; right now the irrational hate for anything with links to APC has been transfered to fellow Igbo men like Ngige and Rochas who were the first to foresee the emergence of a new government at the centre. Perhaps the new found hate for these men is for their effrontery to see what other Igbos refused to see. I may be wrong on this and that is why I ask, what is this hate on Rochas based on?... Is it Rochas that gave Buhari 15million votes to dethrone GEJ? |
saintfizzo:I really loved that quote.. and the guy looked like a real action character in a war movie. "I believe when I train hard, I'll fight easy... and when we train hard, you bleed less" |
What is really happening in Rivers State?... Na only una dey Nigeria?... Why is the govt. at the centre so desperate to remove amaechi?... why cant they let the people decide? I dont see the APC boys sitting back on the 11th to allow the PDP guys repeat what they did on the 28th. I think the APC underestimated the extent of dirty play the PDP was going to unleash but that may not be the case again on the 11th. God help us! |
Sipping Star and bombing the terrorists at the same time... I just loved that part of the Trailer What a way to fight a war... Victoria Ascerta! |
