Are they electric speed trains ?

Me sef I tire for the report... I can't say if the report is really about a cement plant or a 550mw power station or a 'proposed' railway line

Guk: Whilst people say PDP and APC are 2 sides of the same coin and therefore no difference, what worries me is the inability of Nigerians to accept the pathetically poor govts we have at all levels. We the people should be the main opposition through respective pressure groups like NLC; NBA; NMA; NANS; NUTRW etc but unfortunately, govt at al levels have used money to decimate all these groups.

Whichever one of us who agrees that any govt has done well is totally devoid of any standard in his/her life. The basic needs of any human being has not been given thorough policy consideration by any govt and i quote any govt. I know people are quick to reel out the perceived achievements of GEJ but my response is at what cost. You spend 1000% on what you require 10% to provide and you are applauded. His decision making lacks any form of depth and he is applauded embarassed SAD!!!

Coming down to the so called Performing Govs, i have used a particular road in a prominent area for 16 years and the road is destructive and yet, we hail them. The bottomline is we are our own Natural disaster & until each of us, me inclusive make a demand on our leaders to do the right thing, there will be no country to lead in the nearest future.

So, what should we do? Go to your local govt office and demand to know why services you pay tax for are not bn supplied. By the time they receive repeated visit from us regurlary, they will wake up
The bolded part of your message is one aspect I do not really understand about Nigerians... A person spends 10 times the required amount to provide a basic amenity and people who call themselves enlightened homo-sapiens begin to jump around in wild jubilations...

Not too long ago due to the activities of the oil cabal, it was a tradition to have long fuel queues within the 3 weeks of Christmas.. This was the case during the regimes of OBj and Yaradua but GEJ came in and for the first time, there were no fuel queues in the yuletide period. While people jubilated and still jubilate at this feat, a simple question was asked which should prick the conscience of any sane human being, "At what cost was this feat made possible?"

A comparison of the funds spent on subsidies between the OBJ era and the GEJ era showed that Nigerians had to pay almost an extra 1000% in fuel subsidies bribes to the oil cabal in order for fuel to be supplied for an extra 3 weeks in the year... and this is celebrated!

This sample videos of the British leaders debating policies is what a democracy is all about... For every major decision of the David Cameron led government, a debating session will be organised between the Prime Minister David Cameron and the head of the opposition Ed Miliband.

How I wish some unenlightened Nigerians who wish and pray for a lame and toothless opposition in Nigeria can watch these short videos and see for themselves how a democracy works in developed countries. Watch the video and see the head of the opposition dissect and rubbish David Cameron on a daily basis and these debates are aired live...

This is not a case of a certain Nigerian president who trusting in the his own lack of intelligence and eloquence, could not face other (even unintelligent) presidential aspirants in a face to face debate.. Instead he chooses only to appear on pre-determined media chats where he answers rehearsed questions; even upon that, he still gives us unbelievable answers like "america will know" and "mere stealing is not corruption"

Everyday I ask myself, how did Nigeria even degenerate to the level we are today??

You should understand what I meant when I said Nigeria first had an opposition just last year. If not for anything, it was only last year that PDP sympathizers first pee'd on their pants because of the existence if an opposition.

I do not think I understand where you are driving at but if you are a Nigerian you should know too well that ALL our politicians irrespective of tribe, ethnicity, religion, political party are the same. All their ideologies and actions are driven by an inordinate greed for public resources. No one is a saint and it pisses me off when some people delude themselves to believe that the crooks in the PDP fold are less greedy and less thirsty for power than the ones in the APC (even when it is clear that it's the same set of individuals that rotate about these 2 parties)

...and if I may ask, what is it you mean by asking of the record of Jonathan and the record of APC leaders?.. are you deluding yourself to believe that GEJ is not a crook even with all you see happening everyday in Nigeria?? undecided

Politics › Re: What Manner Of An Opposition Party Is APC? by obailala(m):
maestroferddi: I am personally astounded by the developments in this country. The degree of bitterness and intolerance are getting pretty worrisome.

Granted, the government in power has a lot to do to meet the expectation of the electorates that voted it into power. But then we have to draw a line between a constructive opposition and sheer unreasonableness.

In other climes, opposition elements make their mark by complementing the party in power. In other words, they, as a watchdog of government, provide constructive opposition. They praise the government when it makes positive progress and provide constructive criticism when the government falls out of line.

From the foregoing, the opposition duly earn their respect and recognition.
Infact, the opposition conduct themselves as a credible alternative. Put in another way, the opposition demonstrate, by their action, that they be could entrusted to form a broad-based government without jeopardising the common good.

The case of Nigeria is pathetically unfortunate. We have a situation where the major opposition party practically see nothing good in whatever the government does. It is as if the main opposition party viz APC is pre-set willy-nilly to denigrate and disparage all actions of government.

I am constrained to ask whether this tendency is purely an African thing; where you must denigrate and malign your counterpart even when doi so is at the detriment of the common good...

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria's main opposition party, I believe, has not covered itself in that much glory over the past few days. One would have expected some level of appreciation and commendation for the growing democratic culture in Nigeria as witnessed by the free and fair elections in some states in the past few months.

Instead, all one hears are a cacophony of discordant voices.
Now, I am beginning to comprehend why Julius Nyerere asserted that African culture abhors opposition...
@Op,
To correct an erroneous assumption which you made, it is ONLY in Nigeria or maybe in Africa and other third world shaky democracies that an opposition party would come out and applaud the ruling party. I suppose your model of an opposition is what we have in Labour Party and APGA or in the 2007 and 2011 elections where 30 different political parties would endorse the incumbent president as their candidate?

You cannot be blamed because you were born in a country where all your life, you have been ruled by autocratic dictators and even when we transited to 'civilian' rule, we still practised an autocratic single party system up till last year when the APC was formed. Therefore, it doesn't come as a surprise that you and most Nigerians who are 'probably' sympathetic to GEJ/PDP and who are already used to autocracy, are confused at the concept of an opposition party being a pain in the butt of the ruling party.

Just like OseghaleEbosele rightly mentioned on this thread, go and study the situation in USA (Democratic Party vs Republican Party), UK and Australia(Labour Party vs Conservative Party), France (Socialist Party vs Union for a Popular Movement), Germany (Social Democratic. Party vs Christian Democratic Union). In the UK today, for every major decision made by the prime minister, an open debate would be held in the house of parliament between the prime minister Vs. the head of the opposition party; You need to understand that that is the beauty of democracy. The kind of opposition we have in Nigeria today is even a child's play because no matter how the APC screams and criticises, the ruling party still autocratically goes ahead to do whatever it likes...

...and just before I close this, @Op, can you please give an example of one of the 'good' policies of GEJ which was opposed by APC?

quid: Thanks. I wonder how this can be prevented
Did you say prevented?

The plan is already at an advanced stage of its implementation and I doubt if it can ever be stopped now. The hatred in Nigeria across the North-South axis has eaten so deep like a cancerous growth, I doubt it can ever be cured at this stage..

Today most northerners believe that the Christian Association of Nigeria in partnership with GEJ and the Igbos are the brains behind BH to decimate the northern population; thanks to General Nyako and the other 'unknown' sources of intelligence which informed Nyako of this 'grand plan' by CAN. Now the latest bait about an 'Igbo' man being a sponsor of BH is one very potent tool of destabilization and destruction by whoever is truly responsible for these stories...

Whatever the case and whoever is responsible, the fact remains that the plan is working out very well. The North hates anything from the south with a passion and vice versa and it may not be long before the country would be thrown into irreversible chaos.
Politics › Re: Quick Highlights Of Factors That Led To The Civil War by obailala(m): 3:27pm On Sep 01, 2014
vicadex07: The causes of the Nigerian civil war could be
grouped into economic, political and social.
Economic:
Before the discovery of oil in the east, the nation' revenue had relied heavily on the groundnuts from the north. The then revenue was largely from the north, it was shared equally among all the regions. In addition, the north had political control.
However, oil discovery in the east changed things, due to economic focus shifted to the east. Due to this, the east also demanded for some political influence which the north was greatly against. This was definitely a recipe for war.
Political:
Failure of factions to compromise and cooperate to work together. Neither of the prime ministers wanted to compromise their deals to work together for a united Nigeria. Also the fact that the north received more revenue and opportunities though the east produced bulk of the revenue. The crisis in the west that came due to the fact that the elections that were held, were rigged and all laws were broken. Also, in 1966, a group of young staff members of the army under the leadership of Ironsi, staged a coup because they felt all the top nations politicians and leaders had let Nigeria down. They killed all top politicians and at the end made Ironsi the leader. Unfortunately for them, the north retaliated by opening a huge massacre of all igbos and also killed Ironsi and made Gowon the head.
The fleeing of the igbos during the massacre made them end up in the east. This again, made Ojukwu, the leader of the east ask for more demands as there was so much pressure on their facilities. But the north disagreed and this time the east decided that they were going to break themselves off Nigeria and take the oil with them. With this, the north couldn't allow as the oil gave in lots of revenue.
Social:
This was basically a combination of the different tribal groups put together and couldn't attempt to compromise together to make decisions leading to the small quarrels and arguments between them.
In summary
1) The easterners discovered oil and decided to secede whilst the economy had been majorly sustained previously by the notherners through agriculture. The notherners were obviously aggrieved at this.
2) In physics, it is said action and reaction are opposite and equal. Obviously, this was not so in this case of the civil war. Soldiers from the east launched the first coup campaign against top military officers and politicians who were mostly of nothern origin...few from the west too most notably chief Samuel Akintola, the then premier of west the western region. Within few months, nothern soldiers led a counter coup which was much deadlier than the first one. After terrible military and civilian losses, the easterners then decided to secede especially after discovering oil.
This foundation of this thread was laid on an irritatingly false premise.. This thread should be closed!

kinisoo1: Ebola Outbreak: Senegal Confirms First Case

Guinea riot
Senegal had previously closed its border with Guinea in an attempt to halt the spread of Ebola, but its frontiers are porous.

It had also banned flights and ships from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - the three worst-hit countries.

But the Guinean health services reported on Wednesday "the disappearance of a person infected with Ebola who reportedly travelled to Senegal," according to Senegal's health minister.

A young Guinean student later turned up at a hospital in the capital, Dakar, said Ms Seck, but he did not reveal that he had had contact with Ebola patients in his own country.

Senegal, a major transit hub for aid agencies, has a large Guinean population.

Separately on Friday, residents of Guinea's second largest city, Nzerekore, rioted after its main market was sprayed with disinfectant in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus.

The exact cause of the riot is not clear - some people reportedly feared the spray would spread Ebola. Police responded by firing tear gas.

I have also noticed this distubing trend of northerners accusing Igbos of being responsible for bokoharam. The breaking news this morning didn't come to me as a surprise because the grand plan had already been leaked by the man called Nyako much earlier through his letter..

On a good and level day, I would have simply disregarded the allegations and theories as pure trash but going by the antecedents of the northern masses who by virtue of illiteracy are always willing to swallow anything they hear from their elites, I think this is a very very disturbing allegation. Going through comments of northerners on facebook and other social networks for instance, the typical mallam (suprisingly inclusive of the learned ones) already believes in its entirety, the conspiracy theory that the Igbos are behind bokoharam to annihilate the Hausa's and Fulani's. Based on this, I am afraid it may not be too long before the northerners start slaughtering Igbos in their domain. The massacre may be worse than has ever been seen before and the southeasterners and southerners in general may be forced to retaliate; this may just mark the end of the so called giant of Africa.

I do not like to believe in conspiracy theories but this rumour being circulated in the north about Igbos being behind bokoharam might just be the final tool by whoever (maybe the west) to set Nigeria on a collision course prior to it's final destruction. It wasn't too long ago when someone from the west predicted 2015 to be the end of Nigeria. Now a non-Nigerian caucasian is telling the world that an Igbo general is a sponsor of bokoharam. Could this just be a well orchestrated plot?? undecided

Sheriff's name has always been synonymous with BokoHaram since 1960. I wonder why the presidency hasn't for once ordered the arrest and intensive investigation of that man. Is it that the entire FG is spineless to arrest a single man or what? angry undecided

As for Ihejirika, his own involvement is still very sketchy. His ethnic origin and his marked brutality towards anything 'suspected' of being connected with bokoharam 'could possibly' be his downfall. If the informants of the Australian are the bokoharam commanders themselves, could it not be possible for the commanders to just mention any name whom they feel is a threat?

To many questions left to be answered.. It is left for the FG to put the politics of expediency aside, conduct a proper investigation and find a way to eliminate these blood sucking bastards..

Politics › Australian Negotiator Names Sheriff And Ihejirika As Bokoharam Sponsors! by obailala(op):
An Australian who’s been negotiating for the release of the 200 school-girls kidnapped by Boko Haram from their school in Northeast Nigeria has today accused several politicians of funding the Islamist fighters. According to Nigeria’s ThisDay newspaper, Dr Stephen Davis says Nigerian politicians are one of Boko Haram’s “primary” sources of funding. And he says he was very close to freeing some of the girls. But that just 15 minutes before he reached the village where they had been left by their kidnappers, a different group of fighters arrived and kidnapped them again.
