this is why we have child traffikking laws, even if tehy are not fully implemented
go and google nigerians convicted of slavery in the uk
domestic help is a luxury abroad, so you find that some 'smart' nigerians carry persons to be househelps they get caught and slapped with slavery charges
stop defending what is wrong because of 'poverty' and so called 'legality'
this is exactly what got ekeremadu in trouble. going to a civilised nation with a third world, the poor are fodder for me mentality
Repeatedly saying I'm 'defending' Ekweremadu is now beginning to piss me off. Do you have an issue with comprehension? I was simply explaining from the legal viewpoint.
The Op of this thread stated that organ donation is legal in the UK; I simply concurred to that. People donate organs to friends, family members, loved ones etc. Also, some people donate organs for financial rewards. Whike it may be immoral, there's nothing illegal about that, except the donor (as in this case) is a minor not old enough to consent.
On your other example regarding domestic slavery, it's only legally regarded as a crime if the victim isnt being remunerated up to the minimum legal level and if some form of duress (e.g. using blackmail) is involved to force the person to work under dehumanising conditions.
i gave local examples , but you are still bent on defending this
would YOU take money to donate your kidney? why not? that is what exploitation is
Like I said and will say again, I was simply speaking from the angle of the law. I wasnt defending anything so please hold your peace.
With the level of poverty in Nigeria, exploitation is already a culture. In addition to the examples you gave, everyday occurrences like using a domestic staff almost as a slave and paying them peanuts still fall under the same issue of exploitation. But does that really make it illegal? NO.
Again, I was just speaking from the legal point of view, not the moral point of view.
GloriousGbola: do you understand the meaning of the term exploitation of the vulnerable?
hope you do not have one underaged household in your house, her childhood wasting w=away while she attends to your own kids. they also call that 'helping' and claim it is 'voluntary'.
the same way we read everyday of underage girls being married off to older men who fund their education. why do the girls suddenly opt out down the line?
look at the picture of the boy who 'willingly' agreed to 'donate' his kidney. does the guy look as if he has enough education or exposure to even know what a kidney is or how important it is?
the problem of so many nigerians - is that they think this mentality works in a civilised society
I was simply speaking from the legal point of view. I never said or suggested that I supported any act.
If the boy is a minor, all the law needs is for evidence to be provided that his parents consented to the boy being a donor. We're pretty sure that isnt the case here though since they had to bump the boy's age (to make it seem he was an adult old enough to consent).
GloriousGbola: do you understand te meaning of teh word exploitation of teh vulnerable?
hope you do not have one underaged household in your house, her childhood wasting w=away while she attends to your own kids. they also call that 'helping' and claim it is 'voluntary.
Like I said, millions of Nigerians would WILLINGLY jump on the opportunity, including thousands condemning here on Nairaland. That's a direct consequence of the dire economic situation we face in Nigeria. I can bet my last dime (and even my left kidney) that the boy and his family WILLINGLY consented to the boy being an organ donor in exchange for a life changing sum of money.
FERNANDEZISBACK: You folks don't read or what..they clearly said the lil boy was underage and it was without his consent...what are you still talking about?
He ain't of age..fake passport or something..that nonsense is called Modern slavery..
Harvesting organs from still living people is where you start to see it getting iffy..if they volunteer their organs willingly and aren’t killed by the procedure then it’s fine..was that what took place?
It should be done only with consent...That’s why you have to volunteer to be an organ donor rather than some buff guys from the hospital holding you down and ripping out a kidney...
Where did you dig out that info from that the boy didnt consent to being a donor?
Who told you the plan is to kill the boy or that procedure was going to kill the boy? Where did the impression come from that they planned to press him down in a clinic and rip out his kidneys? If they wanted to do that obviously they wouldn't d be foolish enough to go to London for it.
The boy (and probably his family) clearly and certainly consented to being an organ donor in exchange for a large sum of money and probably a better life in the UK. Millions of Nigerians, including many condemning here on Nairaland, would WILLINGLY jump on that opportunity
The only crime committed in this case is that the boy is 15 and not 21 as alleged, and with a good legal defence team, the Ekweremadus can untangle themselves from this case by claiming they didnt know the boy was a minor with forged documents
Many people suffer from serious inferiority complex. Why exactly is Jesus' skin colour a concern to any confident person?
Besided, the people in the part of the world where Jesus was born into aren't black, and neither are they even white. Why exactly is Jesus' skin colour a concern to any confident person?
Meanwhile Mr Reno is supporting a presidential candidate who is a known fraudster and thief that is currently STILL wanted by the FBI in the US for a major bribery scandal. Perhaps Reno should ask his preferred candidate to visit the US for just a weekend? Nigerians would like to check something.
What kind of slowpoke throws stones around knowing full well that they live in a glass house?
Wahala for who say Igbo people no dey vote. People eye don clear!
Several people mentioned that LP had no structure or pedigree to win an election. But with party primaries completed in June, I say and I repeat, 8 months is more than enough time for structures to be built.
Why exactly do people feel they have to lie blatantly to sell a candidate or to demarket another?
It just portrays a lack of mental and intellectual capacity on the part of the authors and eventually, they end up demarketing their candidate when the lies and propaganda are busted.
If you have been observant, you will know that there is apex in which one desires to reach in Nigerian politics Tinibu and Atiku are good example. This is their life's ambition. Amaechi is in the same league. His principle aim of joining APC is to be VP to kwankwaso and which he will president
And it makes him a 'loser' or 'failure' is he doesn't attain the apex position of presidency? What's your definition of 'failure'? How many people in the politicosphere can make it to president? Are they all failures too?
Bro Amaechi's aim of decamping to APC was to be VP to Kwankwaso after which he will be President... Do you know what it means, after all these struggles and answering yes sir, it's ministerial role
The man has had a fulfilling political career by all measures. He joined APC to remain politically relevant after GEJ and his wife tried to rubbish him; he succeeded and has remained politically relevant for 23 years. Milllions of Nigerian politicians aspire to be like him; but not everyone will attain the office of the presidency. It's rather myopic to assume that a person not attaining the apex position of the presidency is a failure.
Of course Tinubu will make a good president; far better than the past few presidents we've had. With his political sagacity, acumen, vision and ability to administratively control the entire Lagos and southwestern cartel, he will surely make a good president if he chooses to be good. As an example, the cabal responsible for Nigeria's power woes needs a strong political emperor to dismantle their stranglehold; something I believe a Tinubu can tackle (if he chooses to).
Same goes for Atiku; with similar political sagacity, vision and administrative prowess like Tinubu, I believe Atiku would also make a good president, far better than the past few folks we've had.
Only problem I have with these fellows is their tainted reputation and lootocratic disposition; reason why I believe Obi may be the best at this time.
Freebills12: Amaechi is the greatest looser in this 2023 political game... Amaechi fought Jonathan since 2012 because he wanted to be VP to Kwankwaso in 2015. Amaechi campaign against his brother, and at the end he lost River state. He was schemed out in 2022 presidential election of APC after wasting his money for Buhari in 2015, 2019 and also paid $10000 to each of the delegates in 2022 primary election. He couldn't even finish his ministerial position, he was booed out of the arena of the convention as a failure and betrayer. He will be thinking now after all my fight and propaganda against GEJ, it's only a minister...
Lol.. Obviously Amaechi's enemies cant get over him till thy kingdom come. Desperately sniffing the dirt for any opportunity to celebrate his downfall.
After 8 years a speaker, 8 years a governor and 7 years a minister, you really think 9 months out of office would be his problem that makes him a loser?
Dtruthspeaker: Where else could it come from? Have you not seen that even babies are quite impressively intelligent even before they are put in schools?
Thinking and Analysis is Naturally Given and natural living just ensures that we use it.
Same as the task of building kites and plucking fruits and solving living problems associated with growing up.
I have already disagreed with you so that is settled, however you also appreciate the fact that the same person who teaches the Truth yesterday can also teach you a lie today.
And that the most important thing here is "Would you know when he lies?" Would you be able to spot the Lie and direct yourself?
From your comments on this thread, I already see you're an anti-education advocate who believes that conventional schooling is pointless because true education comes naturally. I dont have any further words.
Dtruthspeaker: Life and Natural living has already taken care of this so this just an unnecessary disturbance especially as there is still so many goodness giving things to learn.
No it didn't. I already knew how to think long before this attack came and that good thinking is what keeps me focused to know that like in chess, you can only win when you get the "Check mate" with the death of the king.
So it is stupid to pursue queens and rooks and pawns. And this question is a pawn chase, a thief's sleight of hand and a magicians trick!
Like I said before, you might loosely think that life bestowed your analytical and critical abilities on you naturally; but you're very wrong!
Just like your physical body, your brain needs to be exercised for it to develop and be sharp. Those arithmetic and algebraic problems you solved in primary school helped to accelerate your brain development. That's the reason the enlightened world emphasises on the importance of basic education for all.
You're free to disagree with me in this but your disagreement wouldnt change this fact. The people who instituted these things thousands of years ago, and those who still insist on the imperativeness of basic education are not fools.
Dtruthspeaker: The lies and deceits planted in education so that people become stupid and lose focus on what they are supposed to be doing.
First what is my business with Bako and his mother's age? I don't have any business with them.
Of what use and relevance and profit is this? Even American embassy do not calculate this to know your age.
The simple thing is to ask, what is your age? And what is your mother's age. And birth certificates and school certificates and other things will take of all this none sense..
No! Not none sense but a wicked deception meant to make you follow the distraction in sleight of hand.
As every grown up has seen, no one has ever used this shit, not even detectives.
And maths had plenty of these and they are meant to keep us busy doing a nullity, which is why people have come to say education is a scam.
I say the education they give is preparing us to be scammed. It is a case of using the Truth as the vehicle for delivering lies.
Oh yes, Bako's age isnt your business, but the essence of these kind of brain teaser questions when growing up was to stimulate and develop your brain centres so you may be able to think analytically and on your feet when you grow up.
Unfortunately, not everyone would ever be able to grasp these things, even in adulthood; but even if you couldnt, the very fact that you tasked your brain as a child trying to solve these kind of problems, it already helped your brain to develop.
SOme people already running mad even before the elections. Amazing how adults begin to reason like infants just because of politics. So in Mr Jackson Ude's head, a person travelling to a country must be going there for just one single activity?
Sometimes I wonder how adults just begin to reason like infants or like retards, just because of politics. So in Mr Jackson Ude's head, a person travelling to a country must be going there for just one single activity? A person can't kill more than one bird with a single stone?
SOme people already running mad even before the elections.
SARSCoV2: Learning from other countries who have broken similar challenges being presently faced by Nigeria.
What does Nigeria have to learn from Egypt that is far ahead of us in all ramifications. We do not share similar ideology, culture and system of government.
We could as well learn from America, Germany or the United kingdom if we desperate to start from the top, which will still be of no use.
Rwanda and Ghana are fastest growing economies who happen to just be coming out of the shackles and challenges being presently faced by Nigeria, and such destination would have been worthwhile as their are still evident developmental tracts which are visible and presently working for them.
If you must import ideas, you have to import from where best fits your scenario. Not importing ideas from Alaska to West Africa.
Egypt, a fellow african country, had power challenges just like Nigeria up until recently. But between 2026 and 2022, they more than doubled their power generation and transmission capacity from 28000 mw to 58000 mw. Meanwhile since 1999 till date, Nigeria has been struggling to generate beyond 4000 mw fr 200 million people, despite trillions spent....
With the success of Egypt in view, any scholar who thinks there's nothing Nigeria can learn from Egypt is unfortunately just an educated illiterate. Sowore just embarrassed himself.
By the way, what even makes Egypt far ahead of us?
inoki247: lol wetin be Egypt population shebi na like China or India e suppose go and study
Egypt doubled their power generation capacity from 28000mw to 58000mw between 2016 and 2022. Egypt is closer to Nigeria and whatever model they used may more easily be transferable to Nigeria.
sonature1: I think Siemens transformed power in Egypt.
I don't know what happened to that contract after Buhari and Abba Kyari signed it.
Till date, no execution.
Abba Kyari died, and the fellows who took over tried to twist and pollute the contract so as to get 'you know what'. Germans got angry and stepped back. And just like every other promising project in Nigeria, it died an unnatural death with its originator (Kyari).
dmostcheerful: Oga, before Obi came on board civil servants in Annbra where owed 49months salary, that's 2yrs and a month salary. Obi paid all, like in a month he pays workers 2m9nths salary till he paid up. After him no other governor dare owe workers. That alone in a signature project. He is not like Umahi day does white elephant project, he sow seeds where it's needed he doesn't do wastage. Most if the governors who did that did so as to use the opportunity to extra budget but Obi wasn't like that. He don't have to budget 100billion for a 10km fry over so as to see ways to pack money. He did what Anambra needed most at that time. That's my governor. He left a mark that even with the int airport Willie built he still can't be compared to Obi. I rest my case. Let him Soludo do his own we will be watching him.
Willie built the international airport in under 2 years with the money left in the bank by Obi. So in essence, the airport can also be viewed as Obi's Legacy.
The video below reveals the confession by Obiano one where he got the money for the airport (just start from 00:01:00)
