This current government is paying the debt of the previous govt with almost half of its revenue annually; the current govt is also incurring its own debt for which the next governments will pay the bulk of. But that is not the point I was even trying to make here... The point I tried to make was about the loud noise about Chinese loan! Chinese loan! Chinese loan!

Why is there so much noise about the Chinese loan? The so called Chinese debt isn't even up to $5bn in comparison with all the other debts Nigeria has (which runs into over $80bn); even Lagos state govt alone can pay off the Chinese debt. If for anything, the Chinese loans are the best thing to happen to Nigeria because it's the only loans for which Nigerians can actually see what the money was used for (obviously because China didnt give cash to politicians to steal). My question is, why is there so much attention on the Chinese loans?

Nigeria is at no serious risk from the Chinese loans; it's beginning to get boring how the media keeps talking about only Chinese loans when indeed the Chinese debt is just a very tiny portion of Nigeria's overal debt. The amount owed to China can easily be repaid in no time, except we get leaders who foolishly and stubbornly refuse to pay.

Not a single mention of the reason behind his action in the report or what really transpired and here we have people already crucifying him.

My friend is 22 and currently in one of the federal polytechnic here in Nigeria. This guy can speak good english well but the problem is he can not read nor write, the only thing he can write down is his name and Reg. No.

Last year, before first semester exam. I noticed that this guy is always avoiding conversation that involves reading or studying. I never saw him read, not even once. We are neighbours and friends.

I just decided to take it upon myself to find out what was wrong as I know, he is a good person but hiding something. So I offered to be helping him with his assignments and handout summary to my amazement the guy find it hard to read what I smartly asked him to. He refused to admit that he can't read, probably he was a shame to admit it, so I let him be.

He, then finally opens up to me about him not been able to read and write. Of course, this was after first semesters exam and I had to perster him before he was able to tell me of his secret. How have you been writing the exam then? I asked, he said "I submit blank paper" when the result came out he had 6 COs (carry overs).

Again, I offered to help. I did all his assignments, encourage him to write something in all his test, He improved on his CA and others except for reading as I told him to at list write some thing down.even if it means coping from someone siting next to him without getting caught, I'm not encouraging exam malpractice but he needed help urgently.

Now here's my major challenge and concern, Since January this year, I have used Queen's Premier, used other English materials, vowel and consonant sound

The only thing he's been able to read are just few two letter words. Thought I was the problem, so I lied to a friend who happens to be a lecturer that the guy needs help, and that he's finding it hard to understand his books. The lecturer agreed to help but later told the guy not to come again as the guy is still not getting any thing.

Please, help.... the guy want to learn but I don't know what exactly could be the problem.

Curious to know which communities up north actually have oil pipelines passing through them. The OP obviously mentioned Kano and Jigawa intenrionally to drag nerves (a.k.a sensationalism).

Redefinition of 'host community' to include communities hosting pipelines is a fair move in my opinion; and no, it has absolutely nothing to do with the north cos 99.99% of the additional communities to benefit from this redefinition are still Niger Delta communities. Oil spills and environmental degradation dont only happen at communities were there are oil wells. Indeed the majority of oil spills actually happen along the way where pipelines rupture, usually in other Niger Delta communities that dont seat oil wells.

Yesterday the Senate finally passed the "petroleum industry bill" thirteen years after it first graced the National Assembly chambers.

Although several people have been celebrating the action of the Senate as victory for oil producing communities albeit ignorantly, a look into the document passed by the Senate simply shows a democratic coup d' tat against host communities and a pyrrhic victory for indigenous people that suffer from pollution and degradation of their environment due to oil exploration of their communities.

Firstly, the Senate redefined host communities to include areas where petroleum pipelines pass through contrary to logical reasoning. In the original bill of 2008, host communities are oil producing communities and communities that hosts major oil facilities/installations.

The redefinition of host communities by the Senate simply means that a community in Jigawa or Kano state with pipeline running through it will now enjoy same host community status with a community in Akwa Ibom or Bayelsa states whose soil hosts this oil. In other words, communities that do not produce oil will start enjoying benefit accrued to communities that actually produce oil simply because pipeline pass through their territories.

Furthermore, the Senate cut compensation to host communities from 5% that was in the original bill to 3%. How ridiculous can this be? While I have been of the position that the proposed 5% is ridiculous, the Senate further slashed it to a meagre 3%.

In addition the Senate systematically allocated lump sum of the profit from Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to service Frontier Exploration annually that are located in the north. Meaning, they will enjoy over 30% of NNPC profit annually even when they produce zero oil for now.

It is unfortunate that Nigeria is still in the situation of robbing Abraham to satisfy Ibrahim.

This PIB is nothing but a coup against Ijaw nation and every other oil producing ethnic nationalities in Nigeria. It is pyrrhic to say the least and should be resisted.

If you really think the over N20tr borrowed in the last 6 years have been sunk fully into infrastructure, then you must be a novice. Kindly point out the completed infrastructure that's commensurate with over N20tr borrowed funds?

Last time I checked, all the major projects across the country are being financed with microscopic sums per year; Lagos-Ibadan road, Ore-Sagamu, Abuja-Lokoja, Onitsha-Enugu, East-West road, PH-Enugu road etc., none of these major road projects have individually received actual funding up to N20bn in any single calendar year, and that explains why progress on their construction has been extreeeeemly slow.

Even Lagos-Ibadan rail was built with a loan of less than $2bn (less than N1tr), so what really took up the over N20tr borrowed funds? You really think it was all infrastructure as the govt claims? Except you're alternatively saying the money is being stolen in bulk.

These railways can only be built one at a time; for now if the Lagos Kano rail is built, other rails will be built later. Obj largely built the link between Warri and Ajaokuta which was only commissioned recently; there was no noise. GEJ built the link between Abuja and Kaduna; there was no foul-crying or marginalisation or "he is a slave" noise. So why exactly is the judgement template different for Amaechi and co?
