Why should we trust NTA/AIT and their fellow sellouts to conduct a fair debate? There's no fuss here OP. Those people he was referring to have now crossed over to APC. They are the Ameachis, Kwankwasos and Nyakos of this world. Moreover, FFK had admitted making some of those speeches when he knew little about APC's true colours, after all, Hell Rufai (sorry El Rufai) was once caught on tape telling the nation that Buhari "is perpetually unelectable, Tinubu once tore Buhari's personality to shreds by questioning his (GMB's) temperament, civility and patriotism and they are presently the ones singing his praise to high heavens. While I am not holding brief for FFK, trying to rubbish his intellect and consistency is like looking for hundreds of waterfalls in a desert. It's an exercise in futility.

One IP address voted 500 times for Buhari and another 13 IP different addresses voted for the same Buhari.

At the same,it should be remembered that the DSS had bursted 2 APC hacking centres in lagos and at there is an APCmedia centre in Abuja that pay online Hackers to monitor the Cyberspace. These centres should be originators of the forged statement of result and the doctored email response from Cambridge and others.

You are right but in addition to your view, APC's boycott simply shows they are not prepared to rule us. Anybody that aspires to lead a vast land like Nigeria must be ready to beat all odds, wheather all storms, surmount all obstacles and withstand all heats. Unfortunately, the reason adduced for boycotting the debate by APC is just a token of what a prospective president of Nigeria must be ready to face. If I were GMB(God forbid), I would have fastened my seatbelt, gird my loins, replenished my arsenal of defence and go beyond the ordinary to surmount all obstacles but they cunningly chose otherwise. In a nutshell, our Daura man subtletly "chickened out". APC's boycott is a smart way of evading Buhari's humiliation. Simple.

Fair point up there about the whistleblowing being a rather unedifying spectacle.

Correct me if I am wrong though - wasn't it an internal memo from Mr. Sanusi to Mr. Jonathan that was leaked? Was it originally for public consumption?

Do not lose sight of the fact that Sanusi's 'ridiculous whistleblowing', leaked or not, was what brought this matter to the public domain. If I were asked to choose between a staid central banker (who sees, hears and speaks no evil) and a shrill, squealing, rabble rousing whistleblower of a central banker (who let us all know about unspeakable wickedness in high places), I know which option I would pick. angry

More to the point - I do not attach any value to the so-called oversight investigation by senate members. The record of Nigerian lawmakers in public inquiries in the 4th Republic has been, to borrow your own words, 'appalling'. Anyone remember the Ndidi Elumelu led House Committe on Power? Anyone remember the Herman Hembe led House Committe on Capital markets? angry

Nothing short of a forensic audit by at least two well known audit firms and another (technically competent) ombudsman (other than these discredited lawmakers) should be acceptable to Nigerians. And the audit firms and the ombudsman should sign a contract specifying harsh penalties for them in the event of them being found guilty of having compromised their positions.

The tragedy here is that I cannot trust the present administration to carry out any of the measures I have outlined. For reasons that are obvious to all. That's why your childlike faith that the truth will not be swept under the carpet is so sad to behold. undecided

Assuming of course, that this faith is genuine and sincere. undecided
Child like faith? That's a little bit derogatory and repugnant and I take serious exemption to it. Anyway, remember it's still under this "untrustworthy" Jonathan administration that the son of former PDP chairman and other PDP bigwigs were dragged to court for involvenent in subsidy scam and they are still under litigation. If Jonathan did not use his office to suppress their prosecution, I think he should be given benefit of the doubt.
Meanwhile, don't misconstrue my submissions for blanket endorsement of all the actions and inactions of Jonathan administration. He has had his ups and downs as a president but if his positives and negatives are placed on a wieghing scale, I can equivocally say he has done well as a president. I am one of those who detest corruption in all its ramifications but what I will not condone is unsubstantiated allegations fraught with political undertone. APC, the most vociferous accusers of Jonathan's govt are also enmeshed with corrupt practices. Lagos, for instance can be described as a nest of election rigging and financial misdeamenous and that informs why I will be last person to accept the party as a veritable alternative to the status quo. I rest my case here.

No sir. What you have written up there isn't correct. Mr Sanusi claimed that scores of billions of US dollars in government revenues could not be accounted for. The figures were disputed and finally revised downward to $10 billion (still an unfathomably high amount to over 99% of Nigerians). Mrs Okonjo Iweala was a party in the reconciliation of these incredible figures and (if my memory serves me correctly) she promised an investigation and an audit of the NNPC.

In serious countries, the inability of a government to get to the bottom of such an important matter (with elections less than 12 months away) would have meant only one thing for such a government: unavoidable 'death' at the polls. But this is Nigeria. That matter has been kicked to the kerb. Like all the other mind boggling scandals of the last 16 years under the self-styled 'largest party in Africa'.

We are acting out a script. What worries me is what's coming up in the next Act.
Friend, I am not here to launder the image of Mr. president or his party but as a citizen who tries as much as possible to uphold the truth(within the ambit of my human capacity), we owe it as a duty to hit issues on the nail with unambiguity. Sanusi as an astute economist and banker who prior to his appointment as the apex bank boss had held various managerial positions in the financial sector should not be caught in the web of unsubstantiated and ridiculous whistle blowing. It was disgraceful and appaling for a CBN governor( the no.1 banker of the nation) to accuse another government parastatal of unremitted funds without concrete figure and evidence to back up such claim. He did not only disgrace himself, he equally dented the image of the institution he governed. On the other hand, aside the oversight investigation carried out by a Committee of the Senate (made up of APC and PDP members) in which NNPC was exonerated of any financial impropriety, another internationally recognised Audit firm is currently undergoing a scrutiny of NNPC books. So, why not keep our fingers crossed and await the outcome of their audit. Be rest assured that GEJ will not sweep the truth under the carpet.

I am surprised NOI can be praising Sanusi. After they have stampeded Sanusi out of office they can now acknowledge his contributions. yeye people. Well, lets keep watching, Aunty Ngozi may finally commend him in his effort of reporting the $20B stolen money after they are kicked out in February and GMB is sworn in in May 29th. grin grin

The hallmark of this administration still shows in the response. Before they address issues, they first attack the person that tables the issues. Anybody that talks against this administration will be attacked personally even before addressing the issues raised.
Compatriot, you have every right to like or dislike any government but what should be eschewed in entirety is the attitude of been economical with the truth when issues bothering on such govt are discussed. Nobody in Jonathan's administration has embarked on outright condemnation of Sanusi during and after he left office. When the history of Central Bank adminstration is written in Nigeria, Sanusi's regime will be remembered for some laudable interventions. However, Sanusi allowed parochial considerations and political adventure to derail and undermine his office, he yielded to anti-Jonathan agents (APC specifically) and in the process, threw his personal image and achievement into the mud. It's now in the achirve that the then sitting CBN governor in a desperate move to smear the image of his commander in chief went berserk by throwing up allegations of supposed missing NNPC money, fiddling with different figures at different fora, from $48b to $20b and finally to $10b dollars, a claim that was eventually dismissed by the Legislative house as a ruse. From the ensuing, debates allegations and counter allegations, it was obvious that Sanusi was playing out a script well written to label Jonathan's adminstration as corrupt while on the other hand project the image of the opposition. So when the downside of Sanusi is been mentioned, it's natural and expedient to also trump up his major highpoints in office.

Do you have to exhibit naitivity and absolute crudity while trying to sell a bad product? It's curious that someone like you who pretends to be versed in econometrics will speak from both sides of the mouth. While you were talking about defending the naira on one hand, you unexplainably complained about depletion in foreign reserve on the other. If the revenue base of the nation plummets as a result of dwindling oil price with its attendant fall in the naira value, should a dynamic and responsible government continue to entertain a continued free fall by growing its reserve rather than using it to protect the nation's currency? In other words, the CBN had at different times explained the rational for the depletion in the country's reserve as an interventionist action rather than frugality but it:s unfortunate that people like you will never be attentive due to parochial considerations.
And you spoke about Buhari's draconic rule of the eighties. My friend, this is a democratic dispensation where economic policies are not formulated and enforced by decree or coercion. Rather, market forces are allowed to dictate economic activities. Are you talking about the same regime that forcefully conscripted people's goods and sold them off at giveaway prices, where the rich were getting richer and the poor remaining poorer? What was the inflation level at Buhari"s departure in 1985? Don't also forget that the few positive achievements of that regime were attributed to Tunde Idiagbon who was obviously the pseudo Commander In Chief with Buhari been a rubber stamp. Are you not surprised when that regime was and is still consistently been referred to as BUHARI/IDIAGBON regime? Do you ever hear of IBB/AIKHOMU or ABACHA/USENI regimes? Draw your inference from there but Buhari does not possess all it takes to rule Nigeria in a democratic setting.

Politics › Re: Attacks On My Person Not Surprising —buhari by OLADD: 7:44am On Jan 28, 2015
Justbright:
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the February 14 presidential election, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday said he was not surprised at attacks on his person by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party leaders.

He also said that Nigeria could not afford another four years under a PDP-led government.

He explained that a party which had failed to deliver on promises it had been making to Nigerians for almost 16 years, would have nothing new to offer if given another four years.

Buhari said this while receiving in audience a delegation of members of the Peoples Democratic Movement who were in his office to adopt him as their candidate for the 2015 presidential election.

According to him, whether or not the Nigerian elite is willing to admit it, the 2015 elections represent a watershed in the nation’s political history.

He said, “What you have said summarises the problems of this country. You have looked carefully and found out that this year, 2015, whichever way politicians and the elite look at it, is another time or watershed in our political system.

“If we get it wrong this time, and allow the PDP to go again for the next four years, this country is going to be in trouble. Right now, with the unfortunate event of crumbling oil price, the economy is really in a mess. Coupled with insecurity, it is only a country like Nigeria that can survive and get out of this situation we are in. A lot of countries will just disappear either from the map or from the political equation of nation states. But Nigerians are so resilient to the extent that there are international personalities who could not understand why Nigeria still exists.

“There was a former UN Secretary General who said that if he retires, he will go to Nigeria because, according to him, what is happening to Nigeria, no other country can go through it and survive.”

Buhari added, “The 16 years of the PDP has been hell. Remember that we use to have Nigeria Airways, Nigeria Railways, Nigeria Shipping Line. Try and find out how much we have spent on power in the last 16 years from the vast resources we accumulate over that period because the price of oil went up to 142 dollars per barrel.

“What did we do with that money? We said that we paid debts with billions of Naira. If that amount was put into infrastructure such as power, roads, railways, farming etc, the amount of job it will create would be enormous. Today, some of our youths have become danger to the society because of lack of jobs. I hope the elite will properly document these 16 years as presenting the worst leadership this country has ever witnessed.”

Buhari noted that for Nigeria to develop, there must be a conscious effort to plan for the youths who, he said, constituted 65 per cent of the nation’s population.

He also said that the decision of his opponents to resort to personal attacks did not come to him as a surprise because “this is Nigeria.”

The candidate said, “I am not surprised. This is Nigeria, if people are serious about this (certificate) issue; they ought to have listened to the legal adviser of INEC.

“This is the fourth time, I’ll run for this office and INEC by law have got those documents. They (INEC) said they have got them. Anybody who has any different idea should go to court. They are now in court, let them remain there.”

Buhari also commended the PDM for coming out to join him in his quest to rescue Nigeria.

He told the delegation that he was delighted that the political family which former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was leading had formally declared support for him.

He revealed that he had tried to get them on board through Atiku who he described as “your senior colleague, the Turakin Adamawa.”

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Bashir Ibrahim, who is also the national chairman of the party, said the delegation took the decision to support Buhari at a National Executive Committee meeting.

He said, “The NEC of our party, at its meeting of January 22, 2015 noted that the party has no presidential candidate for the election of February 14. It considered and accepted the need to support a candidate in order to save Nigeria for imminent collapse and give it a new lease of life.”

Meanwhile, the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation has alerted the nation’s security agencies of a plot to use thugs to embarrass Buhari.

According to the APC campaign, the plot is aimed at disrupting the campaign rally of its candidate scheduled to hold in Taraba State on Wednesday (today).

This was contained in a statement issued by the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the Campaign organisation.

It was signed by its Director, Mallam Garba Shehu. He said the APC Campaign got wind of a plan to use thugs to throw stones and sachets of water at the Buhari team when it visits the state.

Buhari is the most wicked and unrepentant soul Nigeria has ever produced. What does this man take Nigerians for? Gullibles? The fact that he succeeded in fooling INEC and cheating for three consecutive times does not imply that question should not be asked the fourth time. This implies that GMB is a chronic liar. Only hardened criminals remain unremorseful and try to justify their escapades even when caught pants down!.And with regards to dwindling oil revenues as a result of falling oil prices, what has PDP got to do with it? Is it possible for Nigeria to solely determine global oil price? This man surely does not know anything about basic economics laws of demand and supply and how a nation is run in this modern era. Kudos should be given to Jonathan and his economy management team for steering the ship of the country safely in the apparent troubled waters. No govt in the history of our nationhood has diversified this economy the way Jonathan has done. Buhari will not rule Nigeria again.

It is you that has problems. You are ideologically empty and not open minded to understand the socio economic context that characterized Buhari's first coming. You are calling a sixteen year old immature yet you are far more shallow and lacking in originality of thinking than him.
When Buhari first came into power there was no globalization, internet was in infancy. First of all I want you to understand the sheer implications of this fact alone. There was no globalization then. Secondly the world was bi polar, the USSR was as strong as the US and their economic policy in their military and economic bloc was communism which had its own advantages and many supporters across the world.

Nigeria was non aligned and running a mixed economy which was neither communist nor capitalist and we were doing fine. In 1976 to 1985 we still had one od the world's highest economic growth rates. However there was prevalent corruption during the Shagari era, import license scams, contracts not implemented, drug smuggling, currency printing and so on. Some, people were even smuggling drugs by putting them inside dead babies. The Shagari government saddled Nigeria with a debt of $30bn at a time oil price was barely $35 a barrel, Nigeria's letters of credit was being rejected the world over and we could not buy anything. The western world wanted an immediate devaluation of currency by 300% and they were offering more loans to pay off loans. What responsible government was going to let all that go unchecked?. Most of the policies some uninformed people were blaming Bunari for were very common progressive amongst third world countries at the time include g China, India, Oman, South Korea and Japan that we are now praising now. Please open your mind, think deep and dont be an empty shallow sponge for all the information on the internet.

I had expected you to stay in the purview of the topic under discuss and my associated rejoinder instead of beating about the bush. What has globalisation, internet usage and defunct USSR's communist rule got to do with Buhari's draconic regime and administrative misdeamenors? Even in the absence of globally accepted mode of governance, democracy had taken a firm root and sizeable acceptance in the major continents of the world as far back as 18th century. Aside this, the Nigerian press and telecommnication system was vibrant and efficient in detailing Buhari's attrocities during and after his draconic but north-friendly rule. Did he not guage the press? Did he not kill fellow Nigerians for offences that attracted jail sentences? Did Buhari send a sitting VP to jail but confined the president(who called all shorts in govt) to questionable "house arrest"? Was there any record of Buhari allowing 53 suitcases filled with dollars(and belonging to his inlaw) to be clandenstinely smuggled into the country despite his noise of fighting corruption? Were all the interviews he granted supportng institutionalisation of Sharia in Nigeria, asking muslims to vote only for fellow muslims, condemning the Fed govt for killing Boko haram members etc not well documented? Can a buffon like you convince Nairalanders the congruence of the above with the bunkum that enveloped your putrid post? Be rest assured that I won't waste my ample time to reply your out-of-track junks again. You are one of those APC chronic liars who shamefully twist facts while trying to repackage a sinking Titanic ship called APC and an unsellable semi-illiterate murderer.

President Goodluck Jonathan addressing a PDP presidential rally in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday.
President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that there no government could solve Nigeria’s problems within four years.

The president made this declaration, yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in continuation of his re-election campaign.
He emphasised that beyond tackling the Boko Haram insurgency, his administration was addressing other challenges in several sectors of the economy, including creating jobs through diverse means.
He said: “Beyond tackling the insurgency, we are creating road networks; we are moving faster in several sectors. There is no way within four years any government can finish the programmes of this country”.
The President’s declaration contrasted sharply with his previous remark over four years ago in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Jonathan had while interacting with Nigerians in Addis-Ababa, in February 2011, promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in power, especially.
He had said: “Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to address and we are working towards that with vigour.
“But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past.
“Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.”
The president disclosed that the military would take delivery of additional equipment beginning this week as part of his administration’s efforts towards containing the Boko Haram insurgency.
He expressed optimism that this would enable the country to move faster in another two weeks in curtailing the insurgency.
“We have been to many states, in Abuja, Sokoko, Gombe, Kano and Niger States and the north-east states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa where we are battling insurgency.
“And we will surely give it a halt. We are creating platform for our military and in another two weeks, we would move faster than we have been moving before”, Jonathan said.
Jonathan added: “We have intervened in several programmes especially in the area of agriculture. We are committed to moving this country forward, to create jobs for the country through diverse means.
“We are working very hard to create jobs for our youths, we are encouraging the growth of small and medium enterprises in order to improve our economy and create wealth for the people”.
Jonathan noted that he was at the emir’s palace to personally inform the royal father that he was running for his “remaining time” in office.
“Today, we are here in this state for a political rally. Your Royal Highness, we are here for a purpose. We have been here for a number of times. 2011, I was here. After that, I have been here.
“Today, we are here for the same mission that brought us in 2011. Even though you must have heard before, I’m here to personally tell you that I am running for my remaining time in office with my vice president who would continue to be my running mate”.
He introduced the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Senator Simeon Ajibola to the emir, and pledged that the people of Kwara State would continue to enjoy freedom and quality of life, if they vote in the PDP candidates.
In his remarks, the emir said having observed Jonathan’s performance over the years, he was convinced that he had done well.
He prayed God to crown Jonathan’s efforts with success and called on politicians to conduct their campaigns without violence.

That's absolute truism. Anybody that claim to possess the magic wand to solve all problems bedeviling the nation is just been pretentious and unrealistic. Nigeria has witnessed untoward degradation in all her facets of life due to maladministration, lack of continuity in governance and most importantly due to the military foray in the nation's affairs. If Buhari had not truncated democracy in 1983, if IBB had not annulled the most credible election in 1993 and most pathetically, if OBJ had not wasted his 8-year rule on frivolities, the nation would have unarguably grown proportionately more than the current spate. With dilapidated infrastructure, comatose rail system, bad road network, mediocre civil service, maladministred Electricity and Aviation sectors, inefficient and corrupt NPA, underfunded and mismanaged agric sector just to mention but few, all inherited by Jonathan's government, it negates all logics for any rational mind to expect speedy correction of these anomalies in four years. But without prejudice, Jonathan's adminstration has performed creditably well in turning the tide and re-fixing Nigeria even in the mist of unwarranted distractions by Boko haram and an unreasonably hostile opposition.
