Islam › The Life Of Mohammed- A Bbc Documentary by olapluto(op): 11:13pm On Jul 13, 2011
I just watched the first of a series of documentary by the BBC on the life of our beloved prophet(SAW). This documentary is inspiring and highly informative. The first episode is available on BBC iPlayer for a month and I will urge my fellow Muslims to have a look. I think the next episode is on Monday at 9pm.
Moreover, this documentary should further enlighten brothers and sisters in places of authority in Nigeria. We need to educate people about Al-Islam. I personally was thinking about Boko Haram while watching the documentary. If we educate ourselves (most especially fellow Muslims), we will live a more peaceful life. I also encourage non-Muslims to watch these documentaries to learn more about Islam so as to be able to make reasonable judgement of themselves and people around them.

God save anyone 'arrested' by the soldiers. Nigeria we hail thee. On a lighter note, these soldiers arent actually killing these suspects. Just abit of 'lesson'.

When the suspects are arrested, how are they interogated?
Answer: they are interogated the NIGERIAN way. Watch this:

Seek admission in top unis. Go for the top 20 unis and you wont regret it. LSU is really not as good as OAU, Ile-Ife. Fact.
Politics › Re: Multiple Bombing By Boko Haram, Gov. Shettima Escape Bomb Attack by olapluto(m): 10:03pm On Jul 10, 2011
Perhaps its time we all see the tough job our security forces are facing. Like it or not, everyone in Borno is now a suspected BH member. Until the people start coming out to give vital info about this group, the the security forces will not be out of place in arresting 'innocent' civilians. Unconventional guerrilla warfare sometimes require these measures. While I detest killing people at will, I think it is OK for soldiers to arrest as many people as possible while trying to do their investigations. Innocents should be released immediately after proven innocent.
BH is a collective insult on NIgerians be it Northerner or Southerner. We need to help out our president, who really seems to be taking his time,
Politics › Re: If You Are The President, how Will You Handle The Boko Haram Issue by olapluto(m): 9:20am On Jul 07, 2011
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I will simply do the following:
1. SACK IGP Ringim and appoint a more competent IG. We lost 8 top police men to GEJ's ineptitude and since then, we have lost our head in policing. However, I am sure there is still a DIG who is capable and well read. I am not talking about DIG Abubakar who was on NTA during the elections and was just showing his incompetence. SACK Ringim and let someone else take over, then some top cops who are Ringim associates will sit up.
2. Declare State of Emergency in states where BH are strong. With this in place, our military can then do a thorough searching and anyone found in possesion of assault weapons or bombs will have to explain how he got them.
3. Speak to Imams and leaders in the North. It is no secret that most Northerners are still bitter about emergence of GEJ. This has increased sympathy for BH. I think GEJ needs to make those indigenes of BH infested states see that they are destroying themselves by not giving up BH members. I wonder how any investments will go to Maiduguri with daily bombings.
4. Our SSS needs to blend with some almajarai. Those almajiri hold key to many sensitive info that can help solve this problem. However this is a problem as it is now evident that some of our brothers from the North are sympathetic to th cause of BH.
5. If all measures fails and the bombings continue for a year, the GEJ should resign and hand over to Sambo. Maybe Sambo can talk and they will listen.

Kobojunkie:
What has imagination to do with anything? The fact is there, in Nigeria, are people who have worked longer at high positions in the same Shell, Government, who cannot claim to have the same amount SIMPLY FOR WORKING in those offices. You only need to use your head a bit more on these things. Following your assumptions of this man, then there should be more multi-millionaires out in Nigeria who are worth about the same as this man simply because they held high office in one oil company or another. I particularly know of one man who worked for over 30 years in an oil company, and could not boast of even 1/10th of the amount you pretend all directors in shell should have made.

You don't just conclude that because someone works as a director in a high position at Shell, or as a senate AUTO-MAGICALLY means the person is worth Millions. That is the mentality that continues to allow them rob Nigeria daily of money that ought to go to doing work for us. Many of you automatically BELIEVE that those who work in high office are Worth MILLIONS without even taking time to research their actual pay to find out facts, and remove it all from fantastical reason that prevails.

By your mentality there, this man is OK to claim upwards of 600 million come next election, is that not so?

Goodluck was not a lecturer with a PHD? Regardless of which word you chose, it was part of the justification we got from people, speaking as you are now, to justify his almost 300 million claim. You think what you are doing now is any different from what they did and continue to, I tell you you are wrong. What you are doing is just as terrible.
You havent really said why he is not entitled to have earned all he claimed. That you do not believe something doesnt mean its not true. It only means you havent stretched your imagination to that level yet.
Politics › Re: Nigeria Should Have Four Capital Cities by olapluto(m): 4:43pm On Jul 04, 2011
This thing will never work. 2 city capital is OK. But whoever first suggested Abuja as FCT is really not a well thought person. Many flaws. I see a widening gap between the government and the governed with Abuja's case. Perhaps thats why the government feels like they're ruling in isolation. Abuja is too cosmetic and not close to 'real' life.

apoti:
Reading this piece confirms my belief El-rufai is far better than the eediiots we have in Aso Rock. In his entire political career, GEJ has not made a quarter of the impact El-rufai made as FCT minister.

Let them crucify him for telling the obvious truth. They will only end up making him a hero, making him more popular and a voice that people want to listen to.
Choosing GEJ over Buhari based on sentiments is a grave mistake and Nigeria will pay the price for the next four years.
You quoted so much figure, but how possible is it for a President in Nigeria to actually alter these figures if its being like this for over 12 years? El-Rufai benefited from these loopholes and honestly El-Rufai is one of the things wrong with Nigeria
Politics › Re: El-Rufai Arrested By SSS Over "Inciting Claims" by olapluto(m): 5:06pm On Jul 02, 2011
El-Rufai will gain alot from this. He will soon be hero to some deluded Nigerians. Those who will see his actions as a 'real' opposition. We have a long way to go in Nigeria. El-Rufai was PDP for close to a decade before finding his new saintly self in CPC in less than a year, and he suddenly dissociates himself from the evils of Nigeria. The truth is that we have only one political ideology in Nigeria, spread across parties. Maybe the ACN is abit different, but the slogan of all parties in Nigeria is chop chop chop. el-Rufai will be found guilty of many offences if his file is opened. He knows that. He's even lucky its GEJ. His own brother forced him to exile

If I remember very well, all Uche said was les.bi.anism is 'morally and spiritually wrong' and she is addressing the issue as it threatens her team and team spirit. Nothing discriminatory in this now. Afterall Yakubu and some 9ja players were banned once for sleeping with ashewo in Tunisia 2004. Its on the same par. She wouldnt have complained about her players being les.bos. She's just worried it will affect team spirit. Goal celebrations will no longer be genuine. SOme players will use that as opportunity to quicklly 'tap'. Even dressing room will not be thesame.

As for Esther Sunday, I still do not know why she was dropped. She scored alot of goals in the prep. Oparanozie needs to get her shooting boots on. We can beat Germany if we go all out to attack and stop following the German tactician's defensive game.
Family › Re: As Parents, Do We Buy Into This? by olapluto(m): 12:25pm On Jun 27, 2011
Agree with the topic. However, we need to understand Nigerian society is sinking in the values of old. If you talk to a 60 yr old British who came across Nigerians in the 60s and 70s, they will tell you we're the best. However, we threw away our hardworking ethics and chased shadows. Everyone wants to earnmillion as starting salary. Until we go back to the values of hardwork, we wont be recognised worldwide.
As for those pikins of millionaires, well, its a matter of time. Igbeyin ni dun oloku ada.
Having said all that, I think its harder to break into Nigerian earner's club as a 19 year old. Except you dont mind really getting down. I once asked a younger friend of mine to go into selling call cards. He didnt like it at all and all he wanted was for me to give him 10k. I promised to lend him enough money to start a phone card business, but he wasnt patient on that. Our society celebrates quickies. We want to travel abroad today and come back with hummer tomorow. We want to start work today and drive tomorow. Until the society goes back to the work ethics our fathers made a name with, we will continue to breed brats who cannot stand on their feet.
Islam › Re: Way To End Boko Haram Insurgence by olapluto(m): 11:03am On Jun 27, 2011
Boko haram spells another unique problem with Nigeria. We cannot do it like others are doing it. Nigeria is a country on a 50-50 muslim-christian divide. Hence we really need to learn to be very sensitive in all we do. As a muslim, I abhore the killing of anyone, so I condemn boko haram in totalty.
However, we need to try and understand them before we crush them if need be. I personally think so force needs to be applied to serve as deterent to others. I think the solution to boko haram is JUSTICE.
Justice for every Nigerian. Justice for everyone killed or brutallised. We practice selective justice in this country and that has strengthened boko haram alot more.
I believe the day we start metting out justice to people, that day, we will start moving towards one Nigeria. As it is now, it is easy to get away with a crime by affiliating with one ethnic agenda or one religious group. Unfortunately this is everywhere in Nigeria. In the South, you can buy justice, in the North, you get away with a crime by fronting your religion. Lets bring justice back to Nigeria and see if things dont start working our way. I am waiting for the day an individual will be sentenced to death for killing another individual. Perhaps we show the case on national TV, this will stop the killing of other ethnic groups as we witnessed during post election violence. Let the christian face death penalty for killing any human be it muslim or christian. Do thesame to a muslim that kills. After that, we can talk of one Nigeria.

I think the poster is right, but some bits might be exagerated. Its almost 'normal' to switch off you lights as soon as you are not using it. I think UK teaches us to be wiser in the way we use resources.
However, I think its gross not to switch on the light when you have a visitor or even a friend. Thats taking it too far. I've never experienced such, but I know some Nigerians in London are really over the board, but I dont blame them.
Politics › Re: What Is Wrong With President Jonathan? by olapluto(m): 2:31pm On Jun 22, 2011
So people actually want a reactionary president. I like that too, but if we are to be more intelligent, we will see that being silent isnt incompetence. I feel the IGP should have resigned, but GEJ keeping him abit longer doesnt mean GEJ is ineffective, he simply is taking his time. I think we should help him by setting up a petition asking Ringim to go! He clearly is out of his depths. See this is what we get when we dont do things on merit. The people at the helms of affairs in this country are not there on merit, this is a fact, but we cannot do anything about it other than to help them. It didnt just happen in 2011, its been happening since before I was born!
Politics › Re: What Is Wrong With President Jonathan? by olapluto(m): 2:15pm On Jun 22, 2011
A yoruba saying goes thus: The chicken laid 50, hatched 50, people complained, chicken laid 20 eggs, hatched 20 eggs, people were dissatisfied. They sold the chicken and used the money to buy turkey. Turkey laid 2 eggs, hatched one!
We as Nigerians are never grateful for what we have. I am sure not many posters have been in positions of authority before. I am not for GEJ, infact I feel the senate should kick his 'idi' by threatening him with impeachment.
However, I think he is doing something different. People blammed OBJ alot but I'm yet to count 3 former heads of state better than OBJ. I think GEJ is facing a problem not many people have faced.
He certainly is handling Boko Haram better than UMYA. UMYA ordered them to be killed, GEJ hasnt done such. He hasnt increased the widows amongst people with beards. We all should try to see things from different angles.
He looks weak and really looks gullible, but I think he can only be the best if we support him the right way. We need to make noise when necessary and keep quiet when necessary.
We were all quiet when he sacked 6 DIGs and appointed a 'junior' AIG as IG. We were all quiet when we needed to make noise on radio and fora. I think GEJ needs our support irrespective of our prefered candidates at the poll. Nigeria yi ti gbogbo wa ni.

I think Lagos and Ibadan have the worst 'area boys and area fathers' in Nigeria. I will name a few popular ones. You can take turn in naming the ones in your area:
Lagos State
1. Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo)- Probably richest thug in Nigeria. Controls Oshodi axis
2. Koko Zaria (MC Oluomo's deputy and chief of defense and offense staff)- Responsible for deployment of area boys in war situations.
3. Akanni Olohunwa ( Lagos state NURTW boss). Currently under probe for embezzlement.

Oyo state
1. Tokyo (been to jail many times during Abacha period, nice man, but very troublesome!)
2. Eleweomo( killed in january)
3. Auxilliary (eleweomo's deputy and chief of offense, who took Eleweomo's position after death)
4. Shina ( Rashidi Ladoja's chief hitman)

Same sentiments kabba7. I think its an insult on other cultures and a complete farce! The whole thing stinks from head to toe. I think it should be the winner of MBG in each state meeting in the national final. To me, this looks like girls from one campus in the east all went in and slept with one of the organisers. I am particularly offended and I think Nigerians should just ignore this 'igbo girl's contest'.
I mean how will a 'Kelechi' really represent Osun state? Does she know of yeye osun? Its going to be very boring at the end of the day with 30 igbo girls out of 34 9ja states.
Celebrities › Re: Meet The Most Beautiful Girls In Nigeria Contestants! by olapluto(m): 11:17am On Jun 21, 2011
This is what you get when a society has lost everything it has and cherishes. My issues with the MBGN this year (not that I keep tab of it yearly anyway). The finalist are even worse. You can tell that one of the organisers has a taste for igbo girls. Out of 36 states in Nigeria, there were over 30 Igbo girls representing each state. Even my state Osun is represented by Kelechi! So this whole thing is a farce. They cant go anywhere. You need to see Ms Jigawa on youtube. She was talking like a toad with sore throat.

Nigeria has no government. I am waiting for an Oyinbo to slap a governor or senator. They have eaten dodo, they cant say the truth. Its really saddening. They come from Germany with some half baked graduates or diploma holders and terrorize our people. I think the next revolution after the Egyptian one will be anti-colonialists. This is too much to bear. Any white person in Nigeria can walk into a government office while it will take months of appointment to get a Nigerian to meet the secretary. Even Lebanese and Indians. Filipinos too! Aye awon ijoba wa ti ta pau!

I think Aregbesola is working, but his efforts is like the sweat of a chicken. We cant see it yet. OYES was a big PR blunder. However, on issue of commisioners, I do not believe there should be so much noice. Nowhere in Nigerian constitution do we have a mandated period of time for selection of commisioners. And btw, what do these commisioners really add to the table other than being messengers between the DGs and Perm secs to the governor? If I had my way, I will have a big cabinet and deal directly with the civil servants. We run an over elaborate government and we're unrepentant about it.
