Yes, there are hall residences on campus but always very pricey thats why most international students go for apartments off campus.

Majorly, a shared apartment is a good way to start when you are new, then you can decide to move to somewhere else later when you get a grip of the enviroment. It also depends on your budget becuase you will need money for lot of running cost

You can check apartments close to your school. ( kijiji.com is your plug) but please dont pay any money to anyone till you get to Canada and see the person physically.

Dear Gurus,

Please what is your advise when IRCC sends you medical authorization since November and same has been updated. I did medicals and on my Application still showing eligibility review. Does it mean they just start reviewing after sending medical.

I think you should exercise a little patience. Medical Authorization request is a good sign that the visa officer is satisfied with the eligibility of the applicant, not a 100% proof, but most cases positive.

No one will be able to tell you specifically when eligibility started since we are not privy to their internal workings but since you recieved a medical request and this updated to passed, keep hope alive.

The remark "we are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements" mostly does not change till the applicant gets a decision.

Click on the links below for webform and also send them e-mail via the e-mails below. I included London becuase they are mostly secondary office for majority of applicants. Regardless, your mails will be routed to the primary office processing your application.

I understand the anxiety from some of these agents especially if you are in the dark as to the status of your application. You can have access to your application but the implication of this is that your agent wont be able to access your account anymore (2) You would have to fill a form disassociating yourself from the agent and submit on your GC Key before your account is retrieved.

In fairness to agents, some are very good with what they do so i am not sure which particular agent is handing your application.

Wait for your GCMS notes to arrive to help you see areas that you can improve on.

In the meantime, please try to take your mind off and enjoy the holiday, take sometime to relax and have fun.

Is it true CBSA do login to student portal to confirm the person is a bonafide student of the school?

This would depend on the nature of the enquiry of the CBSA officer;

* At the Point of Entry - The CBSA officer already has details of the incoming immigrant ( e.g international student) displayed on thier screen as they asked the students those random questions before printing out study permit. They can always request to see the enrollment letter from the student if they want to confirm if the person is actually a registered student. The decision to log into a student portal is rare exept they have some doubts and want to probe further.

* Compliance Reporting - The designated learning Institutions do report details of thier enrolled international student like twice in a year to IRCC which is another way the immigration authorities do track genuinue students.

You can send them an e-mail and via webform appealing to them to speed up the process of your application. One of thier primary objective test is to see if you are genuine student so let that reflect in your reminder to them. Let them know you have completed a semester in your home country and that your continous studies online is not really conducive and not alowing you get the best value from your fellow cohorts and faculty due to the difference in time zones etc

You can attach your enrollment letter for the completed semester and that of winter as proof of enrollment.

Let the e-mail be concise and straight to the point.

I login todaye and notice a ghost update. but not sure when, as I didnt get any mail.

Ghost update means your application is currently being reviewed by assessing visa officers.

E-mails are not sent for ghost update except if there is an update on your account like i.e medical request, Request for additional document, Original Passport Request etc.

Keep hope alive and be hopeful for a positive decision.

If you are fully set and have all your stuff sorted , you can plan travelling in December. You would need time to settle in so you are not distracted with so many things you need to sort when classes starts.

It is also getting really cold and the snows are falling heavily. Dont forget your thick jackets,thick sweater, glooves and boots. You can get a jacket with hoodie to cover your head or hat. Aboniki and rub too for your chest. I felt i should chip that in.

I had that weird experience early this year (winter 2021) when i came in. Everywhere looking so quiet unlike the buzzling noise and music from some quarters we are used to in Nigeria. Sometimes, i will just sit looking at the window staring at flying birds or squirrel jumping up and down. It can be that depressing when you are new so i can relate with guys having this initial shock.

The truth is you will get used to it with time without realising it. I would say what helped me was that i made friends regardless of race. I reached out to classmates at random and formed bond with a couple of them which helped relieved boredom.

I think it is even better now that schools are going back fully in-person so there is opportunity to mix and with time you will blend.

The MP supports on schools within thier constituency so check the one in the same region where your school is and give them a call and email.

I will also suggest you keep sending e-mail reminders to IRCC as your application has passed standard processing times.

I submitted earlier but since it has 3 months validity much reason they asked me to submit another one.

Please what are my chances after the submission, my spirit is telling me is a done deal already. To God be the glory ��.

No one can really predict the internal workings of IRCC.

It gives a postive impression of the applicant when they are able to respond to request from the IRCC in a timely manner.

You just do your part and get another police clearance certificate and send to them asap. It shows your application is progressing.

Hopefully, you get the love letter as a final decison.

Send to the Addis Ababa Office since that's the primary office processing your Application. If you send it to London, they will re-route it to Ethiopia, but no harm in sending it to London,

Congratulations. Talking about the affidavits of return to Nigeria after completion of study, what if you get to Canada and see a nice job offer after graduation and decided to stay back won't it have an effect? I want the Guru in the house to help answer this question as well.

The Study Permit application package as a whole should be able to convince the responsible visa officer that the applicant would depart Canada immediately after their studies. Hence, it goes way beyond the Affidavit of Return. The wordings on the statement of purpose or study plan should also be speaking that same language, so; the affidavit is just an additional document of proof to buttress what has been documented in the statement of purpose because one of the binding rules on study permit is to prove to the assessing visa officer and even the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) that the applicant or incoming immigrant will depart Canada when the study permit expires.

Once the applicant can fulfil those conditions by resuming for studies and completing the program without violating their law and decides to apply for the Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) and gets approved, the person would no longer be bound by the study permit conditions but that of the Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). The person can then decide to follow that process legally till the Permanent Resident Permit is secured.

So to answer your question, the answer is no as long as the person does not break their law and follow their rules.

Good evening Nairalanders, this is quite long but bear with me. Earlier this year (2021) I was referred to a page on IG that handles Canada study visa called “ Wokostravelofficial” . They apparently were into securing admissions for interested people at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada and I secured their services. After making all payments to one Kinsley Onuchukwu GTB 0568656274 (handler of the Wokos page) and successfully securing the admission, we moved on to the visa application stage and this is where things started going sideways.

While waiting on this, I also applied to another Canadian institution (Niagara College, Canada) and was offered an acceptance to the Broadcasting program with a co-op work permit attached to it but decided to use the Manitoba admission for my study visa since it came before the other Niagara own and I had already began the study visa process but I planned to switch when i eventually got the study visa.

After providing all the required documents needed for visa application ( international passport, my sponsors bank statement of 12M Naira and sponsorship letter, CAC documents, filling my family information form) to “ Wokos”, my application was submitted in early February 2021 and a week later I was invited to do biometrics screening which I did at the VFS center in Lekki.

Months passed and no feedback from the embassy and every time I messaged this guy he always give me different excuses ( COVID, this , that) so I lockup. He refused to give me the details to my IRCC login claiming he is handling many applications and cannot give the login details to everyone so any messages or requests from IRCC that I receive on my email I would have to ask him before he even tells me what was going on and which documents they were requesting for ( NSE documents like IELTS and Mybankstatement)

Eventually after a 5 months wait, he eventually sent me the rejection mail on the 24th of June claiming my application was unsuccessful . I was devastated and asked him if I could immediately request for my GCMS note to know the real reason my application was rejected but he insisted that I would have to wait for at least two months before even applying for GCMS. I doubted it but I waited, a month later in late July, I asked again about applying for GCMS note but he still dismissed it so I took the incentive and made some research on how to apply myself and I did.

After a month and some days later, I received the GCMS today (3rd of September 2021) and I am shocked to find out that they used duplicated documents for my study visa applications that had already been used in several other applications and I was being accused of fraudulent documentation and misrepresentation and being hit with a 5 years ban from all Canada visa applications .

The annoying part alongside this is that this agent was given some time ( June to July) to inform me on the misrepresentation allegations and to challenge it if need be but he did not and if I had not applied for the GCMS note myself I wouldn’t even know that I had been banned for 5 years. Also because Canada, US and Australia share information and data base I have also been told that the chances of me getting a visa in those 3 countries are now slim to none.

I would appreciate any information and ideas on the important next steps I would need to take to possibly appeal this ban. 5 years no be joke ��‍♂️. Please help a brother out ��

You will be screened at your first point of entry. Since you will be landing first in Montreal, that is where you will be issued your study permit after verification by the respective CBSA officer.

I presume your DLI is at Halifax. I would suggest you liaise with the immigration advisor of your school regarding the present COVID guidelines in Halifax or any other thing you need to know, but the bulk of your screening would be done in Montreal.

Why not? You can always re-apply after a refusal. I would recommend you use both your mum and dad as sponsors.

There is nothing wrong if you intend to use your mum as the main sponsor. I suppose she has the bulk of the funds. Then your dad can be the co-sponsor. Both of them should jointly sign the sponsorship letter. She can also pay for your first-year tuition, and you attach the payment receipt to your next application. Having both parents as sponsors would put lots of weight on your application.

But better to first apply for your GCMS notes so you know the specific concerns of the VO and you can tackle this in your next application

Have you received a confirmation from the clinic where you did your medical exam that your result has been sent to the embassy. IRCC might not necessarily reply, and most times, they take time to acknowledge the documents you sent to them due to the high influx of applications they are dealing with.

You would need to keep checking if your medical on your GC key has been updated to pass, then you are good.

Please note that you would need to prepare a Letter of Explanation or Statement of Purpose. This will be an important document which you would have to submit with your application. These documents would summarise more details about yourself and helps the visa officer understand you better. It is a document that would speak for you in your absence. Just like an in-person interview is conducted at the US embassy for prospective students. For Canada, your letter of explanation does the speaking .
