How long will it take for someone that have previous traveling experience to Canada, UK, US to be issue Canadian student permit ? Is there any student visa stream for such a candidate. Any answer from experience visa expert would be highly appreciated

I am not a visa expert but based on past testimonies from these threads and my personal experience, you can still be issued a visa on a virgin passport. I had never travelled to the USA, Canada, UK, or any of the Western countries before I got approval, so do not worry about that.

The most important thing now is focusing on putting up a strong application. Give it your best shot. Just be optimistic, and you would have it.

I am talking about me, myself and I. I am seriously so lazy about my travel plans. I have been busy doing nothing and everything. I have chest pains each time I think of leaving momsy even for one month. I don't know what and whatnot to pack, I don't even know where to start from...

I am a huuuge sucker for Nigerian foods, ( I lost an overwhelming amount of weight the last time I was at Singapore, with their pink and bright coloured foods). I don't know how to start parking and packaging my foods, I am almost certain I will have to pay for extra luggage, thanks to my love for our foods.
I swore not to take the vaccine here in Nigeria. I punched calculator for the 14 days quarantine and the next place I saw myself was at the nearest primary healthcare center, and then I turned back after standing for 20 minutes looking at people taking their jabs . I am so indecisive....

About my flight, I have booked a lot of them and they have all expired because I am yet to make up my mind for a particular date I am sure the airline ticketing computers yaff tire for me sef

Why am I like this? My program of study isn't listed as one of those having full delivery online( it's hybrid) and resumption is 14th of September, still, I am believing I'd start online first and nothing will happen...naija spirit in me geh coconut head

Pele ! Try to start your travelling plans on time, and don't forget the closer it gets to your travel date, the higher the airline fee. Trust me; you don't want to get into the last-minute rush. Just brace up. I know it is not easy leaving loved ones. The whole effort won't be in vain by God's grace.

Just to give you some tips - Nigerian foods you can easily get here without going to African stores are Rice ( in the regular stores like Walmart, look out for "Parboiled Rice), Spaghetti, Beans ( they have beans similar to ours, look out for "Black Eyed Peas), Groundnut Oil ( More healthy than the one they sell in Nigeria). African stores have other Nigerian foods but pricey.

You can prioritize your Ogbono, semovita, Garri, bottled groundnut ( you can put this in those Eva water plastic bottles), wheat, very dried fish, egusi, Noodles ( if you are a lover of noodles), ingredients for stew ( Thyme, Curry, Maggi etc.) but the tomato, atarodo and pepper are available here at Walmart and some other stores.

Additionally, you can buy like 5 or 6 screen protectors for your phone if you use an expensive smartphone. It is way cheaper in Nigeria and more expensive in Canada buying a screen protector. The screen protector I bought for 1,000 naira for my Huawei phone is $40 dollars here. I was lucky to see it for $20 dollars somewhere else and this might be more expensive in other highbrow provinces like Ontario, British Columbia etc

Hi Iffylove,

You can try the option of submitting a mybankstatement certificate instead. That one is just a one-page document, and you can submit it for one year transaction period. Except if the bank is not on the mybankstatement platform. Otherwise, that's a better approach.

I am not sure you can get Canadian dollars from any of the dealers in Nigeria, but you can get US dollars, then you deposit the US dollars in any of the Canadian banks of your choice when you get to Canada. The equivalent in Canadian dollars will reflect in your bank account, and the bankers here would be ready to clarify to you if you have any queries.

I began the process of immigrating to Canada through the study route in 2019. The agent who filed and processed my last applications messed up too many things and kept me in jeopardy of never being able to get approval. Very simple here ......he was in way over his head and did not have the necessary knowledge or experience to deal with my case. But after I had contacted @Frankrobbn1 the MD/CEO of fandrglobal.com, the whole story changed. I must say that Frankrobben is a genius and a God-sent who rescued me from my difficult condition after four (4) visa refusals. May God bless @Frankrobbn1 as he gave me hope when all hope was lost.


My last application was denied on the basis of insufficient and available funds to pay for my tuition fees and to maintain myself during the proposed period of my study in Canada. I was very devastated and heart-broken when I got the refusal letter from IRCC in June 2020. Seeing the success stories being shared on this platform about @Frankrobbn1, I decided to take a bold step by reaching out to him for assistance with my complex case and it was the best decision I ever made.

I am about applying for my a study visa for the second time but this time outside of Nigeria but I got a friend that travelled to Canada this year January and he told me if I can wait till next year before I apply again said things seem somehow rough to get a job and also study and he is really walking on a thin line with funds that COVID has affected some things and the economy is just recovering! Your friend told you the reality of things, but I don't think you should delay applying for your visa on that ground. You can always make your decision when to travel to Canada when your visa application is approved. COVID put some strain on job availability, but there are still some jobs in high demand, most especially essential services, like retail outlets, courier, health services etc. Most of these jobs will be menial jobs that you can start with to sustain yourself while you study. The country is planning gradual re-opening so hopefully, things get into shape when you get into Canada

Thank you so so much (May God's abundant blessings locate you). I'm quite well. I should have reapplied a lot earlier, but I am waiting for tuition fee debit in my account. GCMS note will come in first week of July, but that's not much problem.

I intend to make a very water-tight application this time, and I don't want to leave any stone unturned, which is why getting my tuition payment receipt is quite imperative. By the special grace of God, I should be able to apply either next week or the first week of July.

I am very happy about the PPR showers these past few weeks. I pray for more rain of PPR in the coming weeks.

Okay. I thought you get work permit right there if you say you need to work?

It will show in your record if you are entitled to a work permit, just like the coop programme I mentioned. The CBSA officer would already know this, so they do not require validation from the immigrant. Most of their questions are to discern your true intent of coming into Canada.

The study permit they issue to international students always has a clause at the bottom page that the holder is entitled to a maximum of 20 hours per week. You telling them that you want to work might open up further questions and questions, which might shoot one in the leg.

I read many people saying at the airport that they don't intend to work in Canada. Is anything wrong in saying you will work in Canada?

There is nothing wrong in telling the CBSA officer that you intend to work, but caution must be observed in answering this question, for example, if your program includes a coop. That implies you do some internship as a prerequisite to complete your programme, so a student in that category can say yes and explain why as a pre-requisite for completing his/her programme.

But suppose your programme does not include coop. Automatically, In that case, your study permits entitle you to work a maximum of 20 hours per week, so the student knows he/she will work while schooling in Canada, so there is no need to say you are going to work, which might risk the purpose of visit. They have the authority to refuse an immigrant entry into Canada if they doubt the intent of the person's stay.

It is much safer to give them the impression you are here to read and study. Also, everything you declared in your application and submitted on the GCkey account, including the comments and assessment of the VOs, are viewed and assessed by them as they ask you these questions.

Congrats once again, what do you mean by the bold statement? Do you mean the border officer can issue a study permit longer than the one stated on the approved letter people always get when their application was approved? Would the officer have also issued a work permit if you had said yes to working part-time?

I think the CBSA officer was just using psychology on him in asking those questions to see if he is really genuine, and he passed the test with a smart response.

It is part of their job to do that to enable them to detect the intention of an immigrant.

Good morning everyone, I got my PPR this morning. This is my 2nd application, having been initially refused dec 2020 on financial status and personal assets, and family ties.

Timeline:

Applied feb 10th (there was no need for biometrics since it was 2nd time application)

Eligibility review started feb 17th

Got my gcms notes April 19th and the pre-assessment stated that I was going for a course that didn’t align with my undergraduate course of study and career as a Data Scientist. Also highlighted that I was being “funded by a professor” and that my family didn’t look well established. Anyway, I gave up as I had other opportunities. Through encouragement from different persons, I sent a short email and also raised a webform explaining that my program was fully funded research based masters at a top University in Canada, and that it is because of my excellent undergraduate degree and my experience as a data scientist that made me a fit for the program which is actually an engineering program under the faculty of agriculture, since my research involved the intersection of engineering(electrical sensing, automation and digital communications) and data analytics. I added link to my supervisor research page, a design thinking material I had with my supervisor detailing my research work, and also ensured to point that my masters was under the department of engineering and not exactly an agricultural program, that it was applied intelligent engineering to agriculture. (my supervisor was furious when I told him what the pre-assessment said, I reported it to the international office and they said nothing could be done aside appealing like as I have done). Then, for the finance, I drew their attention to my personal fund, to the research assistantship letter from the office of the associate dean of research and to my Uncle’s financial documents. But then, my research is fully funded, so every other financial documents I added were only met to explain to them that in case of eventualities, my Uncle can quickly cover a bit of my expenses. Then for family ties, I drew their attention to my mum and late dad’s landed properties, my study leave, my pension account and also quickly chipped in the fact that my Uncle is the governor of Edo state(I added Wikipedia link) and another of my Uncle is the CMD of UBTH(added Wikipedia link). Mind you, nobody has same surname as me. All had same surname as my mum, and they are actually my mum’s cousins. The point is, I didn’t really have to submit new documents, i just resent what I sent before but this time gave very very short and clear explanation to their concerns. These guys are overwhelmed as well, so they could mistakenly not see some stuffs, and I would advice we give very concise explanation to any concerns that might be raised.

May 5th I got medical request
May 25th went for the medicals and I couldn’t see clearly. I was scared. Lol.
June 2nd I passed medical and I started sending webform and emails twice weekly since my application has passed 8 weeks.
June 14th I got PPR and BVL.

Special thanks to justmellow, frankrobbn, Chocs and everyone that responded to my incessant emails and post here. Finally, it has ended in praise.

It should not be a problem resuming in September as long as you have your enrollment letter as proof you are registered for the semester.

September is a good time to come to Canada as the provinces plan to ease restrictions.

on my birth cert and some documents it is Anuoluwa

Immigration would recognize the name on your international passport. Therefore, your application on your GC Key should reflect it as on your passport. I assume you would have already done a change of name that explains that the middle name relates to the same person "you".

Attach a copy of your newspaper publication and affidavit with your application. Also, one of the IMM forms has a question if you have a former name and another box to type the new so you state your full names there and "Anuoluwa" as former and on the new"Anuoluwapo," to clear the air on the middle name disparity.

Thanks to everyone for the congratulatory messages, I truly appreciate y’all!! The wait wasn’t easy but we thank God for his faithfulness! I got the two emails during prayers this morning! Please never doubt God cause at some point, I began to have some doubts. Only this morning when I woke up did I regain some faith again, just before I got my PPR.
This is such a wonderful birthday gift as my birthday is later this month and God just perfected everything!

LONG POST ALERT!!
My journey (Omo my talk fit plenty small)
I started this journey around May 2020. I wanted to go for a Masters in Accounting and finance at the University of Toronto which was what delayed me till this point. They needed a special CPA assessment for international students which included a WES ICAP evaluation. I paid for all and I carried out the assessment. The assessment was to only to know whether you are qualified to apply based on your degree/transcript. Due to our failed educational system in Nigeria, I couldn’t get course outlines for each course I did from 100L to 400L from my school which the U of T required for the assessment thereby making me unable to apply. This whole period took about 3/4 months before I knew I couldn’t even apply to start with. I went on to apply to Simon Fraser and University of Windsor. Simon Fraser answered me fast but their fees are over $50k plus they needed GMAT for me to gain admission. They sent mails every month for a while asking for my GMAT score in other to gain admission. I didn’t have the time to take GMAT because I was preparing for my ACCA exams and besides, the fees were outrageous so I just ignored Simon Fraser as well. Windsor was my bus stop. I applied and it took about 3 months before they gave me my admission for Winter 2021. I had to defer till summer/spring due to the unavailability of time to prepare documents for study permit.
As at December 2020, all my documents were ready except medicals and IELTS. I booked dates for medicals and IELTS for January 2021. I did both of them and got results sharply. Due to some issues, I had to wait until February before I submitted my full application with my NSE documents. I got an application confirmation on that day and another update a day after. I didn’t do biometrics because I had applied for a visiting visa in the past so IRCC applied the same biometrics to my application.
Omo the wait was long! I got a fantastic job offer during this period o and the confusion began; whether or not to forget everything about traveling and commit to working at a top investment bank for two years. I said in my mind my God doesn’t do unfinished business. I even had to start my first semester here from Nigeria and it was a bit tough but God did it. God doesn’t do half work. I kept on refreshing my mail for dayssssssss without updates. Finally, June 2, 2021 during NLP prayers, I got two updates successively. Mind you, powerful fasting and prayers had been going on personally during this period o. I am even currently fasting! Finally oooo my people, I got PPR. My application wasn’t perfect as there were lump sums left unexplained in my sponsor’s statements but God was faithful! To show you how God works and to give hope to some people, we transferred some funds to my Dad’s statements just a day or two before we did the mbs for the two accounts, although the account have solid history and they are quite buoyant.

Before I forget, about a month or two ago, I contacted the parliament members in Windsor and they really helped as they contacted ircc on my behalf and also sent their correspondence to me. That was how I knew my application was being handled in Nairobi. For about 10 days now, I had sent emails and webforms to Nairobi informing them that I already commenced classes and I pleaded with them to speed up my application process. I also ordered my GCMS notes on May 17 but I guess I won’t be needing that anymore lol. All in all, I received the favour of God guys.

Application submission: February 4, 2021.
Application in process: February 5, 2021.
I don remember when exactly my eligibility review started/when my medicals turned to passed.
Didn’t get NSE request as I submitted all documents upfront.
Contacted Kusmierczyk Irek, a member of parliament on April 13, 2021. Got a reply that same day and was told to fill some forms. They didn’t get back to me until May 4, when they sent the correspondence with the visa office in Nairobi. This reply was quite detailed and different from the usual generic replies we always get.
I started sending emails and webforms to Nairobi from May 17, 2021 (the same day I ordered for my GCMS notes). I got some generic responses about my application being under active review and all of that but I didn’t stop sending webforms.

BVL: June 2, 2021; 7:28am
PPR: June 2, 2021; 7:32am

Hello Teenie 19,

The compliance verification requirement is a program that the Canadian government introduced in 2014 to strengthen the Canadian immigration programme, especially as it relates to international students. One of the core objectives is to ensure that study permit holders actively pursue their studies and facilitate entry for those who truly want a Canadian education but not using the study permit route to immigrate for a different agenda.

The Designated learning institution is supposed to submit a compliance verification request on the DLI portal as required by IRCC. This simply means that DLI reports on the enrollment status of their international students twice a year. IRCC sends a request to the DLI, and the DLI has a statutory time limit which they are required to respond to such request

So to address your question, IRCC awaits a response from your school.

For this country-by-country information sharing, do I have to include visas? Because I got a new passport literally the week before I submitted my application so there are no visas in it. I declared the countries I’ve been to in the form, but didn’t include scanned copies of the visas.
Also am I meant to include countries I stayed in transit? For example, I once got a 48 hour visa or something like that because my hotel was outside the airport and the layover was long.

The country-by-country means that Canada has set countries that are considered as migration partners. ...i.e. the United States. United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. These countries share information on bio-data, biometrics, and fingerprints on applicants who intend to gain access into their country to determine any criminal record or any form of inadmissibility offence. Like Canada sends to other countries, the United States also sends to Canada and the likes.

Secondly, I think you have done the most important aspect of declaring the countries you have been on the IMM form; they have a way of tracking it; since you forgot to include the visa with your application, I don't think there is any negative effect. So the important thing is what you declared.

No, I don't think you need to include the transit as you only transited that country to your final destination.

Yes, background check starts immediately after you submit your application; that is why the first request from IRCC when applications are submitted is a Biometrics Collection letter with instructions to go for biometrics. They need the data gotten from the biometrics for the country-by-country information sharing for further reviews and checks on the applicant's admissibility.

A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF MYSELF

My name is Sola Odeyale, a banker from Lagos, Nigeria. I am a graduate of Economics from one of the best University in Nigeria- Lagos State University. I finished in 2009 and thereafter I secured a banking job in Oceanic Bank Plc which was later acquired by my present employer Ecobank Nigeria Ltd in 2013. I have worked in different capacities as a banker from being a marketer to customer service officer handling customers' complaints on mobile application and internet banking.

WHY I BELIEVE IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ME TO FURTHER MY EDUCATION DESPITE HAVING ACQUIRED SOME EDUCATION SO FAR

It is well known that education is the bedrock of all nations and learning new things has always been part of me. I am challenged with the limited human skills in mobile application development in my country and increase in demand for their services which arouse my interest in this course. Also my love for IT especially in the field of mobile application development and how it can be used to reduce the level of poverty in the society via training and empowering the youths has made me to opt for it. Being a graduate of Economics with many years of working experience in banking i believe I am equipped and matured to explore new world of knowledge and build myself to the peak of information technological world most especially mobile application development.

WHY I CHOSE THIS PARTICULAR COURSE

My love for mobile application development was wayback my days in learning computer studies in my local community coupled with the unit i was privileged to handle in my place of work that exposes me more in the field of mobile application usage and development.

It is no more news that the world is now a global village and the dynamics of doing business are rapidly changing very fast with many companies moving from physical structure to digital world. It is projected that in some years to come machines will replace human beings in the work environment which can only be possible through Information Technology. Therefore, it is pertinent to strategically reposition myself for the future task in order to be relevant in the society at large.

Furthermore, the shortage of genuine experts in this field and equally high demand for mobile application developers in Nigeria with rising cases of companies springing up everyday with high demand for mobile application presence has necessitated my desire to study this course in order to train and retrain our youth back home, consult for companies, financial institutions, small scale businesses and also establish my own MOBILE TRAINING CENTER in Nigeria where i have projected to train more than 5million Nigerians in the next 10 years. This will be my only way of giving back to the society and contributing in my own little way to my beloved country in order to reduce the level of poverty and create wealth and skills among our teaming youth.

This has made 1 year academic program to be completed in 3 to 4 years sometimes due to industrial action which made me to opt for Canada.

My choice of choosing Cambrian College is borne out of my love to study from a well recognized college that can impact and add value to me.

English is the official language in my country. I am very proficient in speaking, reading, writing and also understand English. All the education I have acquired was taught in English. It has been part of me right from birth.



PROOF THAT I HAVE SUFFICIENT FUND TO STUDY IN CANADA WITHOUT SEEKING FOR AN EMPLOYMENT

Attached is my statement as proof of my financial capability to take care of all my financial obligations during the period of my study in Canada without any recourse to public funds. Besides, my organization is expected to pay me some huge sum of money as my long service benefits/gratuity allowance in case I apply to resign my current job to further my studies.



I also attached a reference letter from my bank vouching for my financial credibility.

Furthermore, I have also paid my first semester course fees therefore I will not find any financial difficulty during my study.

Lastly the inflow of funds in my accounts are evidence of my consistence savings built over a long period which I have invested in buying used vehicles, generators and other obsolete items sold by my organization to staff at low prices. I have made some reasonable profits from these purposes and intend to make use of it as part of my savings to finance my studies in Canada and upkeep for my family.



PROOF THAT I HAVE FAMILY TIE IN NIGERIA THAT WILL MAKE ME RETURN.

I intend to come back home after my studies to practice the knowledge I have acquired in Canada and ensure i pursue my goal of training our youth back home on mobile application via my mobile application center i intend to establish.

Also both my immediate and extended family are in Nigeria and the bond we share together is very strong that I need to reunite with them after my program. My wife is currently engaged as the CEO of her personal company. Therefore, she will assist to provide financial support for our children when I am away.

My aspiration and goal of setting up a learning center to train our youth back home on mobile application development can only be achieved if I am on ground to make it a reality after my studies.

I believe the information I have provided is adequate and detailed enough for the purpose of this study permit. However, should you need further clarification or enquiry from me i am always available to answer your question.

The information on your statement of purpose should be private to you. It is better to contact any of the gurus privately to help review this for you than posting publicly here. I would have loved to help but may not give that quality time to review your work due to lots of coursework in school.

You have made some reasonable effort but can be improved upon as noted below;

(1) Grammarly is a handy software tool that can help to polish your statement of purpose much better and even scan for text and grammatical mistakes that you might not even notice. Google Grammarly and read more about it.

(2) Brief History of Yourself -Highlight critical accomplishments in your workplace that relate to mobile work development and perhaps promotions, if any, in your present job.

(3) Proof of Funds See the bolded under the proof of funds - Reg flag! Again, don't give the VO the impression you intend to resign.

These are the three I spotted based on my glance; you would need to liaise with any of the gurus to help you review this. Please don't post your SOP publicly here again.

I sent email to Lagos Canadian Visa office four days ago. I did so after emails to Nairobi yielded no result.

We should endeavor to send emails to both Nairobi and Lagos, because no one knows which office may act on them.

Can someone please provide me with the steps to submit my passport for stamping and get it back quickly?

I have started lectures remotely since May 3rd and it has not been easy at all.

Management and business programmes in Canada are not cheap. But you can check University Canada West in Vancouver, the University of New Brunswick in New Brunswick and McGill University in Montreal. Those are the cheapest schools I know.

Check this if it meets your budget range, or you can wait for a response from other honourable members of the thread.

Hello my people o! Abeg help me with this puzzle. I applied for study visa on May 15th but yesterday evening I got an provincial NOI from the same province I got admission.

So, i'm about to do upfront medicals and biometrics (as required for study permit) on Thurday which also requires updating the study visa application once done.

1. Should I update the SV application with the medicals and Biometrics once done?
2. Will the study visa application affect my chances of federal ITA or conflict it in any way?
3. If YES, Should I withdraw my study visa application now and wait for federal ITA?

I'm following avidly as I have just 1 day to medicals. Thanks in advance.

Good evening; while you await a response from honourable members of this thread, you can also post your question on the Canada Student Visa thread to get a faster response from members more knowledgeable on immigration matters.

But my own take relates to guidance by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act on Dual intent.

"An intention by a foreign national to become a permanent resident does not preclude them from becoming a temporary resident if the officer is satisfied that they will leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay" extract from the relevant section of IRPA https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/i-2.5/section-22.html.

So I think each applicant receives the benefit of a procedurally fair, individual assessment as long as they can satisfy the reviewing officers (VO) and meet all the Immigration and Refugees Protection Act and Regulations requirements.

I am inclined to believe you may not need to withdraw your study visa application given the above. This is my own view; you can await more contributions from other members then you make your decision.

Must someone travel immediately after receiving a Study Permit?

No, for a student visa, you do not need to travel immediately, but the immigration would always state the time frame in which you must enter Canada. This is always indicated in the letter of introduction.
