Police sources told Saharareporters that the college had five units in training with each unit having 59 trainees and unit commander. The units affect were two Mobile Police(MOPOL) units from Nasarawa, Gombe and MOPOL 50 from Abuja. Two other units from Zamfara were also at the college during the attack. Boko Haram militants earlier today invaded a prestigious Nigerian Police training college in Gwoza, Borno state. The militants numbering 200 arrived the Police Mobile Force Training School with five armored tanks earlier seized from the Nigerian army units that tried unsuccessfully to dislodge the sect from Gwoza in the last two weeks. Several of the trainees were reportedly killed and injured by the militants. A good number of the trainees also fled to the mountains nearby while some of the trainees managed to escape to Adamawa state. A police source told Saharareporters that the militants blew up an armored tank stationed at the gate of the training college before gaining entrance into the school and wreaking havoc. Boko Haram took over Gwoza some two weeks ago, hoisted its flag and appointed an Emir to administer the strategic northeastern township. Attempts by the Nigerian army to retake the town has been repelled by the militants in deadly counter attacks that have claimed several Nigerian soldiers. New efforts at mobilize troops to march on Gwoza has been bogged by mutiny by troops and their families who simply refuse to take orders from their superiors to take on Boko Haram fighters as they express concern that their weaponry cannot match those of Boko Haram. http://saharareporters.com/2014/08/20/boko-haram-militants-overrun-prestigious-mobile-police-training-college-gwoza |

This woman talks too much! Forgetting that in too many words, there are bound to be conjectures which do not help the public perception of an institution like DSS. On the other hand, this may be a script to punish some people in APC by labelling them as terrorists. This is the worst disservice that can be done to a nation at a time like. Leaving leprosy to fight skin rashes. |

Hmm, so much ignorance and illiteracy here, if any body is happy with the sacking of doctors then that person should go and check his head, can a doctor ever be unemployed?, I just feel for this country and its poor populace, this our so called leaders don't even visit our hospitals, and you a poor man is happy because doctors were sacked, doctors swear an oath, its true, nurses have their oath, our leaders have their's, in all this I can proudly say doctors are amongst the few who still stick to what they swear to in the world today |

THERE was confusion in the Anambra State command of the Nigeria Police on Wednesday, as tension rose when some policemen from the command were transferred to the crisis-torn North-East. Police officers who were transferred to Borno and Adamawa threatened resignation, while a Dvisional Police Officer (DPO) from Anaku Division, in Ayemelum Local Government Area (names withheld), resigned. The DPO was said to be due for retirement February 2015, but was posted to Chibok in Borno State as DPO and was heard saying it would be better for him to go home in peace than in pieces since his retirement was at hand. The move shocked the state police command, as many who were transferred to Sokoto and Bauchi states were considering the option of resignation. All efforts to speak with the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Gwarry was not successful and the Police Pubic Relations Officer (PPRO), who would have spoken on his behalf was said to have been transferred to Sokoto and was running around. http://tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/13328-anambra-police-dpo-resigns-over-posting-to-chibok |

Security operatives in Cameroon have rescued wife of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali who was kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect on Sunday along with a traditional ruler of Kolofata town, reports BBC Hausa Service. The reports say that 16 people lost their lives in the rescue operations, although Cameroon information minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said government was still investigating the matter to ascertain the actual number of people killed. The Boko Haram members carry out attacks in northern part of Cameroon from Nigeria where they established their base in the Sambisa Forest. Last week, a Cameroonian court sentenced 14 members of the sect to 20 years imprisonment after they were arrested with weapons in March around Marwa in northern Cameroon, says the BBC Hausa report. A local religious leader and mayor, Seini Boukar Lamine, was also kidnapped in a separate attack on his home. Three people were killed during the daring raid. Boko Haram fighters clashed with the Cameroonian army in cross-border attacks twice since Friday, killing four soldiers. Cameroon has deployed more than 1,000 soldiers along its border to help combat the Nigerian armed group. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/news/30348-cameroon-rescues-vice-pm-s-wife-kidnapped-by-boko-haram |

Benin City, the Edo State capital, witnessed another round of violence yesterday when over 50 police personnel invaded the Edo State House of Assembly in a commando fashion. The law enforcement agents upon entering the premises, beat away Assembly workers doing renovation work at the complex and threatening to shoot the Speaker if he did not leave there. Led by a female officer, Florence Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), the invading policemen allegedly teargassed the Speaker, Uyigue Igbe, before threatening to shoot him and the other lawmakers that insisted on supervising the renovation work. In a show of more brazen bravado, the leader of the police team allegedly disarmed Police Orderlies of all the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers without extending the same treatment to those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers, who had by then raced to the Assembly in a counter group to engage their colleagues. In his reaction, the impeached Deputy Speaker, Hon. Festus Ebea, said the renovation work was unnecessary and a waste of public funds. He said as Chairman of the House Assembly Tenders Board Committee, he ought to have been aware that the complex needed any renovation. But addressing the media, the Assembly committee Chairman on Information, Youth and Sports, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, put the blame of the police invasion at the doorstep of the PDP, a party he said was resolved to destabilise the state and its House of Assembly. In the words of Adjoto, “The PDP had threatened yesterday that their members will sit at the Assembly. Last week, the renovation work informed our relocating to the old House of Assembly at the Government House. The workers were working and more than 50 mobile policemen entered the assembly and beat hell out of the workers. “All the Assembly staff was ordered to lie down. The question is: who the police are serving. The State Police Commissioner and the AIG in charge of Zone 5 said they don’t know where the policemen that invaded here came from. These policemen were led by one Florence Joseph, an ASP.” “She tear-gassed Mr. Speaker and pointed guns at everybody. The DCP came in and was helpless. He could not even give his junior officers order to leave. Over the years, PDP has been known for political thuggery. We are going to defend our ground to the last.” “The last they can do is to kill us. The bloods of martyrs are used to water the tree of freedom. The police have said they will aid the PDP lawmakers to come here to sit. We are warning, not appealing to the IGP. Mr. President should call his men to order. They cannot kill Edo people. The multiplier effect will be more than what happened in Normandy landing in Germany. Let the police come here on Monday with their rifles. Rifles they were supposed to take to Sambisa Forest to rescue our girls but which they are using them here to intimidate people,” Adjoto said.” Reiterating Adjoto’s statement, the Speaker, Hon. Uyigue Igbe said that what happened was a clear testimony that the Nigeria Police Force was now working for the PDP in Edo State. Igbe, who explained that the renovation work was necessitated by the destruction of the Assembly by suspended PDP lawmakers weeks ago. When contacted, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo disclosed that “The temporary stoppage of work is based on security reports. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/police-invade-edo-assembly-threaten-to-shoot-speaker-beat-up-workers/ |

Idiots like Femi Fani-Kayode and PDP who are quick at labelling Gen Buhari religion bigot, ethnic champion and Boko Haram apologist, will never tell us the length he went to repartrate Umaru Dikko his kinsman and a fellow Muslim from London as a "diplomatic luggage" to face corruption charges, while Alamesigha's state pardon is normal to them. |

Buhari would make an excellent President, his major problem is image misrepresentation in the south, the man is incorruptible and his tenure would see a crackdown on the Nigerian elite, his ideology as in the past remains the same, the poor man first and the rich man last. His candidacy is challenged vehemently by even the elite in the north because they know how ruthless he would be to them if in power. The wealth in Nigeria is always aided by corruption or govt policies working in ones favour against the interest of the majority, its going to take a brave and selfless leader to cleanse the rot in our system, there are many and Buhari is definitely one of them. |
With the emergence of Continental Satellite Limited (CONSAT), an indigenous pay-TV company, MultiChoice, owners of the Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) are set to explore new marketing options to retain its subscribers in the country. Currently, a DSTV decoder and dish sell for N15,500, while those of CONSAT go for N15,000. Monthly subscription rates for DSTV are between N3,000 and N11,650, while CONSAT has a flat rate of N4,000. According to reports, DSTV intend to adopt a downward review of its subscription rates in tandem with that of CONSAT. A MultiChoice employee in one of the DSTV offices in Lagos, who simply identified himself as Okechukwu, told reporters that there would be 30 per cent crash on all subscription packages after the 2014 World Cup. He said, “The price crash will happen just before the start of the 2014/2015 English Premiership season. “The price crash is simply to retain our customers, especially now that StarTimes seems to be doing well and there is a very strong belief that CONSAT will do better.” Okechukwu said the belief that CONSAT would do well stems from the fact that its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mayokun Okunola, had worked at DSTV and understood the business well. “He (Okunola) also knows the strength and weaknesses of DSTV, and he will, no doubt, capitalize on them and make CONSAT soar,” he said. When approached by newsmen, Okunola said CONSAT was ready to compete in the market and offer MPEG4 digital compression technology of over 50 channels, and a plan to reach over 100 channels in 2015. “As a key value proposition, CONSAT also offers over 10 quality TV channels to viewers even if their subscription lapses,” he said. http://oodera.com/2014/06/27/dstv-may-slash-subscription-rates-by-30/ |
