Agriculture / Re: Help With My Bawa(shombo) Pepper Plant - It Is Not Bearing Fruits by OluchiDelly: 1:06pm On May 17, 2020
FarmGang:
Picture 3 & 4 - Closer look at the leaves and the green round looking fruit it bring out. Dont know what the fruit is.

So painful you have to spend over 2 months taking care of weed.
OP, assuming it was pepper that really germinated, would you have allowed them flowering and fruiting in that nursery cluster?

Okay, it was a tough decision for me to make up my mind on which tomato variety to grow. After much deliberation and going through the available(s) over and over again, I opted for;

TOMATOES

1. Kanon F1

Maturity: 70 - 75
Determinate
Average weight: 120 - 150g

TYLCV - IR
TMV - HR
CMV - HR
F - 0 - HR
F - 1 - HR
V - HR

2. Rodeo 62 F1

Maturity: 70 - 75
Determinate
Average weight: 180 - 220g

TYLCV - IR
TMV - HR
CMV - HR
F - 0 - HR
N - HR
V - HR

PEPPER

1.Avenir F1

Maturity: 55
Average weight: 20g

TMV(o)- HR
N - IR

2. Big Sun

Maturity: 50 - 55
Average weight: 15g

TMV(0)- HR

That's all for now.

(Got cabbages on my mind)

How much is the rodeo and kanon seeds bro?
Btw, your kuroiler thread enter FP today, how are we celebrating it?

Thanks for asking they are fruiting but am not too impressed because the fruiting is scanty not much some stand Have 2 some 7 others 9 fruits d variety is Mona I suspect maybe disease also the leave seems to be rowing I have sprayed with laraforce, super grow, red force and Zforce maybe like 3wks ago and I sprayed yesterday evening again. But the local ones have like 15 some 20 fruits.
That's d update bro.
Did you apply fertilizer at transplanting? They resist disease better when they are well fed from the early stage. Hybrids tomatoes are bred to give high yield, hence they need a push, basal application of manure/fertilizer at transplanting is necessary.

The first time was almost a disaster. I planted during the dry season and was watering manually. It was very hectic, I almost run at loss. But was lucky cos Okra was expensive and scarce then.
Through that experience I was able to learn from my mistakes. I also studied online to learn more about Okra farming. And by the grace of God, I was able to get it this time around.
Though the price of Okra will be cheap this period. I hope to buy irrigation equipment, so I can plant during dry season. Believe me, you can make huge amount from Okra during the dry season
Good one. I love pple who are not limited by their past failure.
To maximixe ur space better, Try to replant those that did not germinate within 7days .

I already sent you a mail grin grin grin
Btw,
How much would it cost to send the seeds to akwa ibom state?
What quantity of seeds would I need to cover the said 1½plots.
Would okro planted by 1st week of June survive the rains and would it be still be profitable
How many baskets(worst/best case scenario) can I get from this?
I need to get the seeds before next weekend all being equal

I responded to many mails, I don't know urs in particular.
You can plant in June, just endeavor to make ridge or anything raised soil. If you plant on flat surface, they may be stunted by heavy rainfall.
250g wl do for 1½ plot.
For yield, answers are already on this page. I cannot relate well wt basket cos of the different sizes that are available in the markets around me. I use rice bag, cos my market is very close.
With interstate lockdown, sending stuff wl be difficult. Before lockdown, we also used post office, they charge N1k upward depending on the weight.

1.Sorry to bug you sa

2.How many bags can I get from an acre weekly??
3.At what time will it be ready to harvest??

4.When does Okra plants die off

1. No issue sire
2. Yield is a function of many factors: plant population, fertilization, disease control, timely weeding/harvesting.
If things are done righly, u can get 12bags or more per week. Harvesting is twice a week.
3. Its a function of your cultivar. There are those of 3, 4 months. Improved ones are less than 60days.
4. Prime time is about 2months of harvesting. Anything above that, diminishing returns set in.

Oga okoroemeka, kindly confirm, this are Okra Hire and Clemson Spineless right? I want to plant some okra and all seeds im seeing is clemson spineless.

SW open markets don't like Clemson for reasons best known to them, they only manage to buy it when Hire and other short pods varieties are scarce in the markets, that's usually Feb to April. Let your market dictate what you plant.

Oga GM, you confused yourself with too many disjointed grammar.
These 3 points below are enough to counter sahara reporters.

1. We gave our staff 2 weeks leave.
2. For the sake of their safety, we decided to house them in some hotels during d course of their leave so that deltans would not infect them with covid19 grin
3 We made them to observe social distancing, isolation, etc under a very closed supervision. This is to make sure they remain negative coronically at the end of their 2 weeks break.
QED. No long story.

My only fear is the toxic effect of the synthetic chemicals. They are always persistent with long half life don't forget the leaves can take it for long and when consumed it will actually have adverse redidual effect on consumers,I think u better weed manually, selective chemicals can be so good when applied in maize farm, pepper and other plants, but on vegies I think it is not ideal because we consume the leave that pick up the chemicals.
You are totally correct with respect to the leafy veggies.

I've heard testimonies of others who have used these selective herbicides for grass.. it only kills grass and not effective on broad leaves..

Many a times when we make blunders, and the result is not palatable, we shift the blames to the products.
Let me site myself as an example.
I once applied insecticide, like the 1st 3 lines of my cucumber gone while other lines are OK. I sat and began to reason.
Later i realized someone used the sprayer to apply paraquat herbicide. Tho I rinse it b4 using it but there was almost half liitre of the herbicide hanging in the compressor chamber which ordinary rinsing cannot remove except you flush it out with enough clean water.
Another instance, same quantity of insecticide I normally used for knapsack sprayer, I erroneously (with the mindset that i was holding 16L sprayer)poured same into my 2L hand sprayer. The result...all my nursery plants got burnt.
Another one. I broadcast 1 paint rubber of ewdu seed. As a first timer, I didn't know they used to per boil it. The thing refused to grow. The following year, when the land was turned for planting a different crop, all of them started germinating as weed.

Tho Mr okoro once told me the fake is in market which i do not contest due to its porous packaging.

you don't have to look further this is how Cameron variety looks like,it's smaller than avenir ,spicier and easy to get instead than avenir, the pic below is two nurserys we did same time on 50 gram avenir and other 20 gram Cameron pepper, after more than two weeks no single avenir germinated, zero germination, but the Cameron pepper has 85% germination,I think the results is there for everyone to see.

I am very familiar with the Cameroon pepper. The peppery level no be for here, avenir is still a learner for pungency.
SW dont patronize it, I have not seen d fresh ones in SW b4. It is only SE that patronize it in Lagos market, and not even fresh, the black dry ones.
For better marketability, if I want to commercialize it, I wl need to learn how to dry it. The dry ones are very expensive here, just 2pcs inside small cone-shaped nylon is N20 in Lagos. And that 2pcs is more peppery than other N50 convectional pepper.
But why is it black in dry state while other pepper wl maintain their red colour in same dry state? And how does one dry it?

This maybe risky killing grasses and leaving broad leaf has not been fully proven to have a very good herbicide best option is mulching or hand weeding , cucumber farmers can attest to that

I don't give what I have not tested. I used it on my both tomato and pepper farm without any negative effect. Instructions on labels is vital.

We were able to weed one plot today, still cutting down cost, doing some of the works by ourselves, it is not easy ooo.
It appears almost all the weeds are grasses. Herbicides that can kill those grasses without affecting your ugu leaf (and anything broadleaf) may help in cutting down cost.

Thanks
The popular one is furadan. Its sold less than 1.5k per kg. Its tiny granules like ewedu seeds.
When you finished dressing your bed, broadcast it same way u broadcast ewedu seed. Slightly incorporate it in by using rake, then wet it after or before applying your seed.
