oludashmi:The Judge is expert in sentences without fine ![]() |
The Lagos zone of National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) says it has recorded a feat with the sentencing of a 29-year-old woman, Peace Enem-Effiong, to seven years imprisonment for human trafficking. Mr Godwin Morka, the Head, Zonal Office of NAPTIP in Lagos, made this known yesterday in an interview with reporters. Morka said the convict was arrested in 2006 and arraigned before an Ikeja High Court on a two-countcharge of conspiracy and human trafficking. He said the Judge, Justice J.O.K Oyewole, sentenced the convict to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine on each count. "The sentence is to run concurrently and start from the date of arraignment (February 2007)," Morka said. The director said the convict and one other still at large brought a 14-year-old girl from Akwa Ibom State for prostitution in Lagos State. Morka said within one year that the girl was brought to Chop and Chop Hotel, Mushin in Lagos, she was put in a family way without knowing who was responsible. "The girl gave birth to a baby girl. We have since returned the baby and the girl to her family in Akwa Ibom State," Morka added. He advised parents to watch out for human traffickers, who were taking their underaged girls to the city for prostitution and slavery. http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/15428.html |
@Kilode? I can sense your advice was offered with very good intentions, but the bolded caught my attention. Maybe its just me but I have a big problem with the way some Nigerians(some other folks do it also, but I'm Nigerian so) treat their employers businesses. This mindset of doing something on the side kills productivity and hurts the employee too, it takes your focus away from your present job and robs you of the attention you need to give to your other passion. This is absolutely not true cos it depends on the type of job you are doing and your business. It also depends on your personality and how best you can make productive use of your 24hrs. So many people run their daily routine job excellently and rewardingly and at the same time are up to task with their personal businesses. Remember that you must be very sure of the terrain, flow and nitty gritty of your personal biz before you quit your job so that you will not live to regret it. A civil servant/banker/worker running a cement/any other shop before quitting his job is wiser than that who quits his job cos he has nothing to lose (and will not be distracted). He only needs a sales person in the shop who gives him feedback of sales daily via phone or when the guy visits his shop after work. He also makes order for new stock without being distracted. Saying you should not run your biz along with your job and later quit one for the other, is like saying one should not run a part time prog and still be working! Afterall, your biz can represent your part time class! |
HE IS!! ![]() He did it out of his selfish reasons. the same way Africa was scrambled upon during the berlin conference of 18th century. ONE USA,ONE CAMEROUN,ONE FRANCE - All speaking one common language and similar or same cultural identity but ONE NIGERIA equals to more more than 10 languages (not dialects), different cultural background, different looks, different smiles, different way of crying, different foods and way of feeding, the list is endless mschewwww ![]() |
Odunnu:Good treatment. But I think you need to start your biz along the way while you continue with the present one and later break away. Dont say cos you are being well taken care of, you forget that you are still a slave in a master's suit. Aluframes:good one! can you send me your email pls? |
DHD:You 'll just visit EFCC office, shake hands with all their staffs and their madam, laugh and chat, then go back to the government coffer to continue your goal. |

excanny: Thanks I meant Okwuta/Okwute. These have no similarities with Yoruba in pronunciation but let me know their meanings. |
violent:good one! This is the same system used in the US, Japan, China etc, why is Nigeria's a failure? Should we say politics has failed in Nigerian cos politics is not good? The implementation of systems matters alot, not just the announcement or documentation of the system. All that our leaders do is to document a system, move into 1/3 of the system, abandon the 2/3 of the system and expect same result as those who used 4/4 of the same system. This GEJ sef? He doesnt dig deep into issues b4 concluding. the same way he said the Oct 1 bombing was done by terrorists outside the country. mscheww |
Okuta means stone. Even with that the language similarities with Igbo is 0.01%. If you say cultural and lang similarities with the Itsekiri and Edos, I agree. What does the remaining 2 words mean? |
Those policemen are not the ones on our roads oo. |
Why would anyone pay money into their husbands account because they make more money? Is it that persons fault that they make more money? Its not an issue when the husband makes more money so why should it be an issue if the woman makes more money? The decision making should be equal but I don't believe that a woman should pay money into her husbands account of allow him to manage her money because he makes less money. I know a man who's wife makes 5 times more than he does and he is perfectly fine with it. He sees nothing wrong with it. The man is a high school teacher and the woman is a lawyer.
Submission is clear in your statement. The marriage is without hiccup cos the woman gives the man the honour and respect he deserves and the man reciprocates but the day it starts getting into her head, that day trouble begins. |
@poster Nice post. Good write-up. Excellent way of sharing your experiences with people who always think the grass is always greener on the other side. Take it or leave it, a wider coverage of Lag is more civilised and developed compared with Abj using the same parameters. |
excanny:Pls those boldened words do not exist in Yoruba AT ALL. Probably it sounds like yoruba but the pronunciation is not and neither is the spelling. |

OUR BOMBS WERE NOT PLANTED TO KILL – MEND I tried to copy this down here but my internet connection is failing, you can read it on http://www.punchng.com/ This is the dumpest and most useless statement any silly persons can make. Please are bombs meant for excitements or are they equivalent to fireworks? These MEND guyz are getting to the peak of their destination and will arrive there unexpectedly. The souls of those affected and the God of the families they have put in mourning will surely avenge. |
