@dayokanu I read thru all your posts and I think your dad was only a little bit worse than mine but they have great similarities in beating and talking maybe cos they were both teachers. Even as a calm lady, I still have some of his scares on my thigh and hand, he used to tell us "ma fun e ni apa ti wa ma fi han awon omo omo omo e" meaning "he will give us scars that you will show to your children and generations to come". I wonder if such scars will be an achievement. I believe this is what made my younger brother so hardened until recently that he is showing signs of changes, even my father now fears him (whereas he was the one that mead him hard). When my dad is thru with cane, he will turn to punching, slapping and all sort. Food may not be enough at home but cane (pankere) was never scarce. And just like yours, we were all intelligent in school. Same goes to my cousins cos we later realised all our parents were the same and we were all very stubborn and pretensive. @Elzarus I feel you so much too. The old man is now gentle and sometimes when I talk to him, I have to just caution myself and forget about the past. As I read your posts, I was laughing and crying, infact those times are not worth remembering. The most important thing is that we have all grown to be independent life. |
nkilirox:And is pregnancy before marriage or abortion the way of salvation? ![]() Lets think about it, there is no community without a law/rule/regulation, if your community says this is what they want, you have the option to stay within that location and obey their rules or relocate to another community that accommodates your opinion or belief. You cant blame any church for this cos the couple to be were aware of the laid down doctrines before they signed their marriage counseling forms and in the course of time, they agreed to follow the doctrine in as much as they will wed in that church, SO WHY SHOULD THE CHURCH BE BLAMED? YOU CANT EAT YOUR CAKE AND HAVE IT!!If the church will not wed them cos of this, they have an option to go for registry and traditional wedding or when did it become a must for pple to do church wedding if not for all this COME AND SEE ME MENTALITY THAT WE HAVE. The traditional wedding is the most important cos this is where the bride price is paid, it is where both parties come with witnesses, agreement for the union and it is the covenant that God stands on. While registry is the consent of the government of that land and agreement that they are henceforth couples. |

No, that amount cant build a 3 bedroom flat anywhere in Nig but as for the size of the land, your rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, toilet, pantry, dining and siting room can all sit on 1/2 a plot. you can budget N2.5m to N3m if you are not buying a land. But start with what you have and you will complete it later |
Good point from writer. Oyinda has got a good reply too. anonimi:Are you alright or you got into this thread by mistake? |

EzeUche22:On a more serious note, I have heard alot of Igbos not liking the mbise and ngwa people but what is the different? are they not the same igbos? Someone told me they are from a slavery generation or thereabout pls tell me more about them.
it's natural for that to happen. Usually, when a culture is in the process of being absorbed into another, it happens through interethnic/racial marriages. The men from the dominating culture is usually more able to take a wife from the minority culture. I'm speaking on a smaller scale here ie Lagos state where the dominant culture is Yoruba. the same will not apply elsewhere in igboland for example. over there, the yoruba women will be more willing to marry a igbo guy. rather than vice versa. there aren't too many yorubas in igboland so this theory cannot really be proved i guess.
You made so much sense here oyinda. ![]() |
@shfizle You have said it all. Gbosa!! for you |
Those films are meant to teach/educate you a typical setting of what pple do and how they react to the issues of life irrespective of the religion they belong to and their social lives. Remember that more often than not, we commit so many atrocities be4 realising our new faith. Every film you see out there tells what has happened before, what will happen in future, the possibility of something happening and possible solution to such issues. Also, it is necessary to keep promoting tradition/culture for our unborn children just as the white men keep promoting theirs. May I ask why you still bear your local name instead of a xtian or muslim name, why do you still wear buba and soro even after you are born-again and why you still run after local dishes instead of burger and pasteries etc? The reason our cultures (all tribe inclusive) have gone so low is cos we pretend to be so civilised, learned and exposed that we no longer appreciate who we are. We need to stop mixing up things, instead draw lines btw areas of life so that we will not mix xtianity/islam with education or education with family or family with culture. ![]() |
Thanks alot Yasminaiji and Negro_nts, you guyz have done a great job here. But yasminaija, your first post that oduduwa has one son was right unlike the second that says 7 sons, (i guess you made a mistake). |

ds700:Where did you get that from? I laughed like never b4, you are too much but I disagree at the hausa mayb yu need to do more research. I lived in their area for many years (and I speak hausa fluently), hausa girls dont stop marrying even if they have 10 teeth left in their mouth. After studying them with some yoruba women, I came to conclusion that it mayb as a result of religion domination cos both tribe are islamic dominant (pls no offenses from muslims, we have one God), nothwithstanding, hausas have more minus than you got there. Every tribe has its ups and downs, what seems normal to your tribe is abnormal to another tribe. ![]() |
I cant believe his church still exists . He is even worse in prison. |
Convicted preacher and head of the Lagos-based Christian Praying Assembly, Emeka Ezeuko (aka Rev Dr. King) has threatened to sue the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) and some of its officials for allegedly subjecting him to inhuman treatment. Rev. King, currently being held in Katsina Prison, was convicted and sentenced to death on January 11, 2007 by a Lagos High Court for killing a female member of his church and subjecting others to inhuman treatments. His lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, said at the weekend in Lagos that King was being traumatised with prison officials denying him access to visitors, mostly his family and church members. He argued that under the country’s Constitution, Rev King is entitled to receive visitors and ought to be treated like every decent citizen even in prison, particularly when his appeal against his conviction is pending before the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division. Ojo said: "The constitutional and statutory rights of an inmate do not and can not end at the prison gate as every prison inmate is entitled to receive visits by counsel, family members and friends under the Prison Regulations made under Section 15 o the Prison Act Cap P 29 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004." http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/12279.html |

At last!! If all our leaders are treated like the last Deji, they will all sit tight. |
The new Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, performed the last traditional rites of mounting the Omolore mound, located in front of the old palace, around 3.30pm on Sunday. He had his first daughter by his side. The Akure tradition requires the monarch to climb the mound with the first daughter before he could have the full traditional authority to act as the Deji. In the event of the monarch’s demise, the daughter will act as the regent of the town pending the enthronement of a new king. Indigenes of the ancient town, in their hundreds, defied early morning downpour and trooped out to catch a glimpse of their new monarch. Prominent personalities from all walks of life and government functionaries, in various traditional attires, also accompanied the king to perform the rites before he entered the palace around 3.40pm to ascend the throne of his forefathers. The coronation ceremony, which also coincided with the 60th birthday celebration of the monarch, brought to an end the four weeks of traditional rites that followed his announcement as the new monarch by the state government. Adebiyi, a trained Agriculturist, is the fifth in the long list of the Adesida’s as decendancy to the throne of Akure and he is also the 46th Deji. The Akure tradition prescribed that a new Deji must, before taking over the throne, pay homage to some senior chiefs, including the Omolare, Asamo, Elemo and Ooye, among others to partake in some rituals of ascension. Part of the rituals, all of which were observed on Sunday by Adesida despite the downpour, included some moments at the Omolare’s where the sacred burial sites of all the past Dejis are located. He also visited the Alakunre groove, the collection of ceremonial beads at the palace of the Ooye and the climbing of the Okiti Omolore. The entire town was thrown into celebration mood as guests and residents trooped out to join the celebration. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201009062571289 |

Watch out! they will release this man and before you know it, he will start getting billions contract from the govt. Let him die afterall he lived by gun. If anyone says he was acting according to his bosses order, then have it in mind that everyone is responsible for his own conscience. |
The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), in collaboration with the Bayero University Teaching Hospital, Kano and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has successfully conducted a kidney transplant on a 31-year old Suleiman Usman. The kidney was donated by his brother, Abubakar Usman at the university’s Kidney Centre. According to the university’s authorities, the transplant was the first of its kind handled in the institution without the assistance of any foreign surgeons, since the Kidney Centre was established in 1993. Announcing the successful transplant yesterday at a press briefing at the teaching hospital, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Prof. Othman Kyari, said “first ever in the history of Maiduguri Kidney Centre, a team of doctors and surgeons from this hospital and others from Ile-Ife and Kano performed a very successful kidney transplant on Suleiman Usman without the intervention of any foreign doctors and surgeons. He said with the successful transplant, there will be no more need to send kidney patients for transplant in foreign countries. The chief medical director also noted that besides overcoming the challenges of transplanting the kidney, the exercise was carried out at the total cost of N2 million, stating that if it were carried out in any of the foreign countries, it would have cost the hospital about N3.5 million. According to Prof. A. Akinsola of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), once the kidney is successfully transplanted, normal function returns and the quality of life of the patient is normalised. He said except for the side effects of immunosuppressive drugs and acute rejection episodes in non-compliant or poorly matched patients, the donor’s transplanted kidney would start functioning to continue with normal life. On the prevention of kidney damages and the diseases associated with kidneys, he said: “Prevention is the best solution to kidney diseases by changing people’s life styles against excessive drinking, smoking and lack of exercises and other activities that could keep people physically fit.” He said because many people are addicted to these life styles, there are already 60 million people suffering from kidney related diseases in the country. Prof. Kyari further disclosed that 10 per cent of the kidney patients at the UMTH are of renal disease, while 16 are affected with various ailments of the kidney. He said with the successful transplant of the kidney on Suleiman, the next transplant by the hospital’s team of doctors and surgeons would take place in the next three weeks. Akinsola appealed to wealthy individuals and philanthropists to sustain the transplant of kidneys at the teaching hospitals, while the Federal Government is to reduce tariffs on imported drugs and encourage the local production of such drugs in the country to save foreign exchange. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=21968:-nigerian-experts-handle-first-kidney-transplant-in-maiduguri-varsity&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed that a London-based Nigerian, Ifeoma Ethel Okpala, was detected to have concealed narcotics after a body frisk. She was nabbed at the weekend with 1.525kg of substance that tested positive to cocaine during screening of passengers on Arik flight to London at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The 37-year-old drug suspect works as a support worker in a London mental home. The arrest was made following the discovery of some of the drugs by female officers during a body frisk on her at the central screening area of the international wing. NDLEA’s checks discovered that she ingested 20 wraps of the drug, weighing 300 grammes, while 54 wraps weighing 1.225kg were packed and worn by her as a diaper. Okpala, a 1997 graduate of Banking and Finance from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, while under observation, successfully excreted the drugs she ingested. Okpala, who hails from Ezinifite in Anambra State, allegedly smuggled the drug for a fee of 5,000 pounds with which she intended to spend holiday in the United States. The suspect, who blamed her action on greed during interrogation, said she earned 2,500 pounds monthly and should have been contented with her legitimate income, saying, “it is difficult to believe that I could be convinced into trafficking drugs. “I ingested 30 wraps and vomited 10 so I packed others as a diaper. I am ashamed of myself. I do not know what to tell my friends. I wanted to spend my holiday in the United States and also buy some goods for sale in Nigeria. I have disappointed my friends. I hope my parents will find a place in their hearts to forgive me.” http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/10435-ndlea-nabs-london-based-lady-with-1525kg-cocaine |
