the maggots come out of it when the grated garri is left like 3-4days to make it sour before drying and frying, that's how we got Sour garri. some garri has sand in it because atime, after peeling the cassava (mass produced) the cassava is not washed properly before grating, like when they peel and put them on the sandy ground or over filled basin cassava fall out on the sandy ground. sometimes no enough water so no washing at all, just grate like that, Saw such many times ![]() also atimes after frying the garri, it is poured in a flat bag that is laid on the ground for it to cool before bagging. And you know we got wind there, so it blows sand into the garri. cheers, we chop and never die sha o ![]() All hail garri, the ga ga garri ![]() |

My Prof said the same thing in one of my Evolution class. He's from Quinsland, and he used the Grand Canyon in Arizona as a good example. sartorius: |

You pay for Water light Car loan mortgage if you own the house OR rent if you are renting the apartment House Phone Cell Phone Cable (TV is not free o) Internet House Insurance Car Insurance by the time you are done paying for all of the above and even more, eeeya ![]() everywhere has its own problem. let's make the best of wherever we are ![]() |

I'm glad about those apartments. housing is a big problem to many places in nigeria. i hope many will be able to rent, and pay faithfully. this is where the money for maintenance comes in. |
I used to think that the weather in the west is good on our black skin. An AA friend was shopping for Ambi, i told her girl that has Hydroquinone the bleaching agent in it, she said yeah but she uses it. My nigerian friend bleach big time here too. I wonder why. oh well, Ambi, it's like using Tura. it smells the same. Guess some of the light skin ones in the west uses bleaching agent then. yes, we need to appreciate the color of our skin. But if you decide to bleach, just take it easy. |
someone said only those without scholarship do menial job. I don't think it's true. some of us have full scholarship, tuition, books, accomodation, allowance, etc and then travel allowance all covered. Also if you do well in sch, you get additional inside scholarships. I worked because of the Boredom. what do I do when not studying? going to the clubs? 2-3hours work week days and then saturday maybe 5hours. You do menial job because that's readily/easily available. The more you become aware, the more choices you have. I don't see my work at my college cafe as menial. But the standing ain't funny, ![]() |
heard Aloe Vera is good for weight, saw the plant at the Jamaican store but don't know anything further about it. also heard about using Lemon or Lime. @ Amobi1 haha, and what does leaving my hair natural makes me? ![]() that eyebrow is a no no, i think it's pretty if you can have a professional do it for you. for a 5 dollars, i had mine done at the salon. i was shocked at the result, so pretty. if you know how to trim or it's well done, no need for the pencil. the well done eyebrow looks like there it's already penciled. i think putting pencil on the brow makes one look older, we aint in a hurry ![]() |
Sobe energy drink, the one in red-black can umm, no longer using it now cuz the lizard finally spoke ![]() |
i think it is a stepping stone. given that you don't know much about the place anyway, and for international student you are not allow to work outside the college. there are many jobs in the school, well not the big thing but okay. the law does not allow you to work outside, where you could have more choices, if you break the law ha you are on your way home, for those in yankee, you are only allowed to work 20hours a week, and 40hours during holidays, the system work well o so you will be caught if you work outside or work more than the 20hours, no matter what. a classmate from Tanzanian did and he was warned, lol, he was telling the manager ''i have a wife and 4kids in Africa to take care of, don't you understand eh?" oga yankee manager said well am sorry but that's the law. he had to stop or gets into more trouble, sad, he was sent home as he did what made his scholarship suspended. on rare occasion and in very needy situation, the law will permit you to work outside but not VERY common. ha, they will do investigation on you before that. so it's hard not by word of mouth eh i need more money so i wan work for outside campus, no way. my work as serving in the salad bar continued for 3years (only when school is in session), each quarter i work 6hours there and the rest 12 hours I Tutor. Summer i work 40hours working with others Painting Dorms in the huge school. This I did for 2 Summer. And the money, well I save them all. i helped my siblings and friends with the money too. I had a full tuition so am not working to pay for anything just for my savings. But summer I'm on my own. So Ndipe, am with you on that. Not really easy but that independent spirit is what many of us experienced while here. junegirl: |
Does the banger, knock out thing and bisco light still goes on? it was fun back then when we do it ![]() omega25red: |
my first job was at my school. most international student work in the cafe. the manager took a look at me and then asked that i go to the Sandwich dept there i will be making Reuben, i was like "WHAT" Reuben is a name of a person, he said nah this Reubens is a Sandwich, i was so embarrassed o he then took me to the dept where they made it. they showed me how to make Reuben, few days after i was good at it. but one week later, they moved me to Pizza. they said i was needed there. oh that was terrible! work from 8-11:45, class from 12-2pm, that wasn't funny. i had to dress because no time to come back to prep for class. even the apron couldn't protect me from the flour that messed up my jeans and sweater. i would dust off the flour once done ( i was responsible to put the dough in the machine to flatten it) my hair, jeans and shirt all will be in flour, lol. in class they all knew i worked the pizza. by the end of the quarter, i was aware of all the depts and asked to move to salad dept for evenings. there i cut fruits, prep salad and cut dessert. when students start coming, i will go to the bar and serve. at the end of the day my feet all hurt for standing. No sitting at all through out your shift, na wah o. but then i was glad because I hated the dishline where they normally put the international students. |
very true, and I thought I was very prepared, lol. I still wonder why they call that small money 10cent and the big one 5cent, lol that was one main confusion, so i throway all the coins, lol ![]() the first quater, one of my instructor invited me to her church. i dressed up in silk skirt and blouse, everyone in the car was in jeans and thick sweater. they complimented my nice dress but then asked if i wasn't cold? i told them I'm warm but on getting out of the car, it was snowing heavily already. not even the heat in the church could help me. i was shivering that even my hair all stood up on my head. then they said ha Rochester weather is unpredictable, so always dress warm. Too late because I already caught bad cold. well i thought to myself, i was only trying not to use Jeans to church now. |
babyo, lol and seems Ika fell for it, davidy you dey look for chick? ![]() |
God bless my dad, I don't know where he learnt his from, maybe the military school. at a very young age, the first book he gave me was a book called Personal Hygiene and ventilation. I would read it and then read it back to him. First thing in the morning dress your bed. after that we are given chew stick and few minutes later, we all lined up in front of the house with our brush and tooth paste and a set aside table knife for the tongue. he will take it from us and help us brush. your teeth and then the tongue and the lips, oh goodness! I cried at the begining but as time went on, it was fun doing it. our neighbors back then will be peeping at us like we were something else. shower is daily and so is changing your clothes. my mama taught me how to shower. scrub 2ice and wash down below a MUST and very well. he talked about Personal hygiene and Ventilation every blessed day until it became a second nature. It's something that has remained with me to this day. You are right Poster, Reverend and cute ass, Personal hygiene, it's something many don't think is important. it's not something that is hard to do. I'm sure it's just laziness on the individual part. Those odors are killing. here, I hate it when they yawn without closing their mouth in class. that smell, it's so repulsive. you will see them wake up and just head to the fridge for milk or orange juice. back to the room and spray their fruits perfume (strawberry type and others) and off to class. I will be like where is the brushing and shower? if you are that hurrying, why not get up on time like i do? Aha! I can only imagine o. some lagosian, Lagos and many other places are dirty yes. the people are too lazy to take care of themselves. I don't think it's money to buy those things maybe to some people they don't have the money. i don't think it will be too hard or expensive for everyone around the world to spend little of their income for Brush, toothpaste, Floss, mouth wash, sponge and soap. and to some white and Asian too, even with the weather and winds, there is that common repulsive odor that make you breathless when they (some) pass you!!! oh goodness, was it garlic or what! Let's not take offence but just pay more attention to our daily hygiene. Cheers. |
You all are right there, below is a link, read the artcle and the response, quite interesting http://www.nigeriansinamerica.com/articles/717/1/Why-Do-African-Men-Go-Home-to-Marry/Page1.html gbeborun, haha |
lol na big true you talk o babyosisi imagine not having money to pay in western world like USA where BILLS is everything and unending? can't tell your landlord i don't have money to pay for the apartment or the mortgage company i don't have money to pay for the house. it's not easy when you can't afford things when you are married, ha the kids dey there too. Lack of money sure cause unhappiness in marriage. it's a starter of many headache. no money to pay bills, for good food etc. so much will be on your mind that even sex which people believe is important in marriage will be a distant thing. oh well lack of money, that's tough. babyosisi: |
I think it depends on those involved. |
