Politics › Malawi To Evacuate Citizens From South Africa by omoharry(op): 4:14pm On Apr 15, 2015

A foreign national holds a machete to protect himself after clashes broke out between a group of locals and police in Durban on 14 April 2015 in ongoing violence against foreign nationals in Durban, South Africa Foreigners have been arming themselves after coming under attack
Malawi says it will repatriate its nationals from South Africa, following an upsurge in xenophobic violence.
At least five foreigners, including a 14-year-old boy, have been killed in attacks in South Africa's coastal city of Durban since last week.
Some foreign-owned shops in the main city Johannesburg have shut amid fears that the violence could spread.
Zimbabwe has also condemned the attacks, blamed on locals who accuse foreigners of taking their jobs.
Tens of thousands of foreigners, mostly from other African states and Asia, have moved to South Africa since white-minority rule ended in 1994. At least 62 people died in xenophobic attacks that swept South Africa in 2008.
Members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) try to control a protester after clashes broke out between a group of locals and police in Durban on 14 April 2015 . The government has ordered police to step up efforts to protect foreigners
Malawi is the only country which has so far decided to repatriate its citizens.
Information Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa said the first group would return at the weekend.
About 420 Malawians are reportedly living in refugee camps in Durban after fleeing the violence, he said.
The BBC's Raphael Tenthani reports from Blantyre that he received a call from a Malawian in Durban who said saw he some Malawians being killed - including a close friend who was burned alive.

Foreigners have shut their shops in Johannesburg to prevent looting
Mr Nankhumwa called on the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) to intervene to help protect foreigners.
"This is unfortunate coming at a time we are working on regional integration," he said at a press conference.
"We urge the government of South Africa to protect foreigners," he added.

Milton Nkosi reports from a makeshift refugee camp in Durban
Standing in the middle of a football field that has been turned into a refugee camp overnight in Durban's Chatsworth township, one cannot help but feel ashamed of being South African.
There are white and green tents dotted around housing destitute African migrant families who fled the violence meted out to them by their South African hosts.
Two weeks ago locals began attacking and looting properties owned by fellow Africans, calling them "kwerekwere", a derogatory word for African migrants.
I did not even have to ask Memory Mahlatini, a Zimbabwean who works as a nanny, what happened to her because her story was written all over her face.
Her eyes alone made me look down in shame as she explained how a group of South Africans came to her rented home last Monday evening just as they were preparing to sleep and demanded that they go back to where they came from.
Fear and shame in South Africa

In total, the violence has left about 5,000 foreigners homeless in Durban, the main city in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, local media reports.
On Wednesday, the violence spread to the province's second city, Pietermaritzburg, where foreign-owned shops were looted.
Verulam, a town about 30km (18 miles) north of Durban, has been hit by similar violence.
The government has ordered police to step up patrols to prevent the violence from escalating.
The governing African National Congress (ANC) said in a statement that South Africans should "hang our heads in shame in the face of these misguided and misplaced assaults".
Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has been accused of fuelling xenophobia after he was widely quoted as saying at a meeting last month that foreigners should "please go back to their countries".
He denied being xenophobic and claimed he had been mistranslated.
South Africa's official unemployment rate stands at 24%, but some analysts believe that it is much higher.

I'm not big into politics, but I will give my opinion on this post in shining some light on the topic due to being an American. World leaders were probably gathered in France because these are countries that work TOGETHER and not AGAINST each other. In America, we have our own issues and politicians don't mind dabbling in other countries issues from time to time. But why must America be the entire planet's savior
? I only assumed this since you didn't point out any other country. Let me ask this. If there was a major crisis occurring here, would the Nigerian government send troops to help us? I truly doubt that. The United States used to send BILLIONS of dollars to Nigeria EVERY year in order to "better" the country. But what happens to the money? The corrupt government takes it all. It's public record. Google it. The U.S. will not support a president that promotes Sharia law or one that does a poor job of protecting its citizens and military personnel.
But your so called country has the right to meddle into another countrys affair... no nation is an island , just the way Nigeria help in some trouble country in west Africa that is how other countries asist one another in comparting problems..why didnt America fight Isis Alone... we are not asking for for America to come and be our saviour, all we a were asking was for america to sell arms to us to fight this same insurgencies that they have been demonizing our president for his inability to fight through their bias media houses... yet they refuse to sell us .They even went as far as sabotaging our effort to purchase of arms from Israel and South Africa...because of what they called Human Right abuse...hahahaha..I laugh in swahili..America is a Hypocrite... you are here talking rubbish of what do dont know... Nigeria will never ask America to come and save them..all they ask was Sales arms...thanks God we have been able to bush the Boko Haram back as a result of a combined effort of a regional formed military force within Africa .It has really ton down the daily bombing without your countries Helping and telling the whole world of how you have save the poor souls and how their people are crying and dying of starvation..yet your media houses such as the CNN and BBC take such much delight in report false news which are sometimes exaggerated... to present us as a weak and helpless country to the world. but our God is behind us...so please shut up and come down from your high horse because America is no our friend.

I want the Kenyans here to disregard the Somalis here that are making trouble. don't blame them.. they know nothing but war, hunger and famine..so they wish the rest of Africa will join them to be war turn countries by provoking them to start a war...there is a saying that a bitter and troubled man knows nothing but bitterness ,sadness and sorrows. they derive pleasure in causing people pain..just pretend they dont exist here. cheers..A friend from Nigeria

I have been seeing hate speeches and threat flyig all around the social media, especially here on Naira Land because of the election fever. Now the election is over....while the Kay player of this election have sheath their sword and conceded defeat for those that have lost and others jubilate over their victory... now i would like every tribal war to equally be put to an end and forgive those that have offended you....we are one Nigeria be it Yoruba ...Igbo....Hausa.... we are are one.. we must clean our mind from every hate we have toward other ethnic group that must have occurred during the election.. we need one another.... it is better we stand as one and be stronger than fight and fall apart and become a mockery before the rest of the world.
If Nigeria is on fire today where will 170 million Nigerians run to? Other West Africa countries cannot contain the influx of millions of refugees that will emerge nor will they have the resources to sustain us....is it South Africa..they are no longer our allies they would rather we burn to death that lift a finger to help us... they will so close their door in our face..Nigeria need to stand strong and healthy, devoid of ethnic and religious bigotry for us and the rest of West Africa...GOD BLESS THE YORUBAS , THE IGBO AND THE HAUSAS'AND ABOVE ALL, GOD BLESS THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

Can you see a country so blessed and endowed with great resources?

Can you see the greenish land mass and the weather bright and friendly?

The coat of arms shows peace and strength and unity.

Talk about the beauty of the landscape

The plateaus and the rocks

Talk about the rivers like the Niger

Which flows from North to South?

The oils from the South South

The coal comes from the east

The hides and skin comes from the North

And the beaches of the west.

I love Nigeria my country, the pride of Africa

Oh great Nigeria my country, so rich in diverse ways

The farm crops grows all through the year with rains and sunny days

It’s made up of different ethnic groups with great culture

So I will serve Nigeria with all my heart and

I will tell the whole world it’s my country

I am proud to be a Nigerian

I am a true Nigerian who understands the mind set of an average Nigerian. This understanding was further enhanced by the fact that I am a full fledge Igbo man who knows the mind set of an Igbo man. I was born and breed in Lagos, I know the mind set of an average Yoruba man. I schooled in the north.... FEDERAL GOVT COLLEDGE DAURA Katsina state to be precise. so to a large extent, I know the mind set of an average Hausa/Fulani man. These are the major tribes of Nigeria. It hurts me badly to note that of all tribes in Nigeria, most of our brothers from the south west never see anything good in an Igbo man. Why? They seize any little opportunity to cast aspation on an Igbo man, portray him in a negative light and pass him off as a no good and a fraudulent person. These are the same people who have contributed immensely to the economic and infrastructural development of every nook and cranny of Nigeria. The western region have been known as election master riggers. An example is the 1964 general elections, 1979 election where they blatantly helped to rig out their very own Chief Obafemi Awolowo in favour of Shagari. In 1992, rigging was not possible.....all thanks to Humphrey Nwosu's option A4. The military govt of IBB annulled that credible election conducted by an Igbo man. In 2015 election, the social media is awash with negative unconfirmed allegations of manipulation in south east. More annoying is that these e-warriors tends to turn blind eyes to the irregularities in Oyo and Osun where there is also protests and they don't see anything wrong with kids being accredited for voting in the north. Everybody must not have the same ideology with u or support your political views. For the fact that the south east have chosen a path different from yours does not give u the leverage to cast aspation. Even twins born of the same mother sometime in life must go their separate ways. I stand to be corrected and I will be very happy if any of you will prove me wrong.
One love brethren. Let peace reign after every body must not belong to just a political party less democracy wont be interesting anymore...must everyone support your candidate? no.. its not by possible.. every one is entitle to who they wish to support and they should be respected for that..the e warriors on here should respect everybody's choice of candidate except you are a dictator at heart... this intolerance and hate message here on Naira-land is not necessary not healthy for us as a country... let us vote for who we wish to a support and join hand and assist any candidate that emerge as a winner.. after all everything is geared toward the good of Nigeria our country.... please please... Buhari has won... enough of the hate speeches going around.. congratulation messages are coming from people from left right and center even from some members from some opposition party..that is healthy politics....Buhari has won let us all join hand together and make Nigeria better... and ensure PDP does not die so that APC does not becomes drunk with power of monopoly..
