PointB:Third-rate sophistry from a clown who's watched one too many episodes of "Suits" and now thinks he's a lawyer. You're free to start a one man protest to arrest the protesters for sedition, since you know more than the writer of the law you so quoted, Mr. Full Literate.Luckily for me, and sadly for coup-sympathising sore losers like you, I don't have to run around ranting and raving to get my point across: the government needs to enforce the laws on its books, particularly the ones focused on attempts to illegally overthrow said government. From the amount of wasted effort you've put into justifying these criminals, odds are you're one of them, and hopefully you'll soon be joining the other lawless creatures behind bars where you all belong. |
PointB:What is "iink"? You can't even take the time to spellcheck, yet you feel qualified to lecture me on reading a link! Not all seditious act requires prosecution, much less that of justifiably angry, disenfranchised protesters. The laws on sedition do not care how " justifiably angry" or "disenfranchised" some embittered internet ranter may feel the agitators to be. Calling for a coup is a crime against the laws of Nigeria. See https://journals.unizik.edu.ng/index.php/lrj/article/download/52/52/106 or https://jurist.ng/criminal_code_act/sec-51 which says (1) Any person who‐Moving on ... If you feel they have broken the law, maybe you need get off your arse and go to court. And now you reveal yourself to be nothing but yet another semi-literate with no understanding whatsoever of the law. Individuals don't prosecute criminal cases, the government does - and yes, government prosecution of these idiotic criminals is precisely what I've been calling for. |
PointB:What a ridiculous non-sequitur. Standing in front of a barracks and begging the soldiers to seize power is as overt an act of sedition as it gets! Did you stop for even a moment and think before typing out that nonsense? |
PointB:Some of these actions may be criminal, but none are treasonous, and ethnic bigotry, while vile, isn't even criminal. In fact, there is no law against being a raving bigot, as long as one doesn't actually do anything about it. These people calling for military rule in the protest are clearly misguided. But I doubt if they have committed treason. They are protesters.Unfortunately for them, what you doubt or believe has nothing to do with it. Agitating for the military to overthrow a democratically-elected government is the textbook definition of sedition, and which is a criminal act in any country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedition These agitators need to be immediately arrested, tried and sentenced to long jail terms. Nigeria has suffered enough under soldiers who believe they have the right to tell everyone else what to do at gunpoint. You may like what they have to say because you're bitter about losing an election, but your sympathy for these seditionists counts for nothing under the law. |
Horus:There is a gigantic difference between protest and calling for the violent overthrow of a democratic government, and these individuals have crossed that line. At the very least they should be immediately arrested and arraigned for treasonous sedition. |
Eniitankorede:It says something about the laxity of the country's law enforcement that these loons not only openly agitated for such an act of treason, but they also allowed themselves to be filmed in the course of it, so confident were they that nobody would ever hold them to account. Calling for the violent overthrow of a democratically elected government is sedition, not some act of "free speech" that should be tolerated. |
HilcomTech:Exactly. These trolls want to pretend that it was all due to an "Igbophobia" that is mostly in their heads, rather than what their preferred candidate said and did to alienate Yoruba voters. I wonder how many of them would vote for a candidate who pulled a similar stunt in the SE, even if said candidate were full-blooded Igbo and married to an Igbo woman. These are the same people who call Joe Igbokwe "Yorubakwe" simply for daring to back the APC! |
Kobonaire4:It will never be possible to clear the slums as long as there is unrestricted immigration from the rest of a country with 200 million impoverished citizens whose numbers continue to swell at nearly 3% a year. Lagos simply can't ever build infrastructure and housing fast enough to sustain all the migration that is incessantly drawn to it. |
LikeAking:What would be the point of splurging $2 billion on power generation if the end result will only be fed into a dysfunctional grid? And how will the costs of all that spending on power be recovered when power tariffs have been capped too low by regulators, while Nigeria's laggardly court system makes prosecuting deadbeats almost impossible? If you knew anything about Nigeria's electricity sector and how it is regulated, you'd be aware that there is already a surplus of power generation capability available, but most of it is lying idle because the grid can't handle it (hence "load shedding" ) and in any case the DISCOs can't recover their costs due to a combination of unsustainably low prices and customers who refuse to pay their bills. |
millionboi2:Precisely. Nobody worth reading will be paying for this dubious "benefit", and all it will prove is that the people who paid for the badge are desperate to force their opinions down the throats of others, whether or not they are interested. In short, it will simply be a marker for trolls, and anyone with sense should leave Twitter for more sensible alternatives. Let Elon Musk handle the fallout from overpaying for Twitter and then running it into to the ground all by himself. |
Seun:There is only one scalable solution to problems like this: more reliance on automated tools, like the Bayesian filters used by email services, sentiment analysis based on NLP techniques, or Slashdot-style auto-moderation. Simply adding more bodies to the problem won't work, as they merely bring their own biases into the mix. |
CodeTemplar:Agreed. We can't stop talking about particular crimes simply because they are disproportionately carried out by certain sections of the population. Otherwise, we might as well say discussion of any of Nigerian society's ills should simply be ruled out altogether, from fraud to prostitution, drug trafficking, kidnapping, suicide bombing, etc. There is no such thing as a crime which is practiced at the exact same rate across all sections of Nigerian society. |
LZAA:You are at least as deserving of a ban as any of the accounts you mentioned. |
Fucklove:So there are no longer Igbos from the SS? Or will this only last until the next irredentist pops justifying the region's inclusion in a "Biafra" map on the basis that the "Igbos of the SS" supposedly want it that way? |
verybadmouth:1. That would be a gigantic violation of people's privacy rights. What happens when a government decides to then issue a legal order for Seun to give up the details of commenters said government doesn't like? 2. It would also mean nobody outside of Nigeria would have the ability to participate in the forum. The millions of Nigerians and descendants of Nigerians in the diaspora have just as much right to be on here as you do. |
VawulenceProMax:Um, "developer" isn't a slur of any kind - see, for example, "property developer" or "software developer". The term is certainly used sarcastically, to mock the pretensions of certain people, but sarcasm isn't the same as tribal insult, and it is a perfectly valid form of political discourse. Advocating for an end to tribalistic slurs doesn't mean we should go all the way to "snowflake" territory and start treating ethnic groups as delicate and endangered species in need of special protection - at that point, all scope for meaningful political discussion will simply vanish. |
Omoawoke:Exactly - one would expect such accounts to be banned permanently if this is going to have a chance of working. In fact, I'd go further and suggest a filter be added at registration time to prevent the creation of accounts with such monikers. |
aderoju3921:And here we see another loon with an inferiority complex who is triggered by simple statements of fact about IGR data by state. I'm betting you are just another sockpuppet for "AnambraLastSon" to work out his deep-seated issues. |
Bobbiee:Look at this brazenly hypocritical tribalist without an iota of shame or sense. The very phrase "you can't be classified as human beings" comes straight out of the Nazi playbook of dehumanizing others, and is as foul as bigotry can get. Your type of rhetoric is what leads eventually to people being shoved into gas chambers. It's ludicrous how thoroughly you typify the very worst form of prejudice imaginable, all the while accusing others who look like saints in comparison to you.
|
Bobbiee:Anyone slow-witted enough to think his unverifiable personal anecdotes outweigh elementary logic - as you do - has no place telling others to "leave your village once in a while". I know this may be hard for a bush-pikin like you to comprehend, but some of us weren't born in villages to begin with! I've seen parts of the world wretches like you can only ever glimpse in your sad dreams, yet I still don't make the mistake of treating that wealth of personal experience as generalisable for everyone else. Save your anecdotal tales-by-moonlight for someone stupid enough to give a dåmn. I'm just another laughable simpleton bigot texting from the comfort of his forgotten village and nothing more.True, that you are. You think spewing lots of laughable dribble can cover up for the fact that you see nothing wrong in Igbos discriminating against Fulanis in the very same manner you claim Yorubas discriminate against you. All you've accomplished is making clear what you have a real problem with: not discrimination per se, but that you should be the victim of it. You're perfectly happy to cook up b*llsh*t rationalizations for treating others in a manner you'd never accept, even as you hypocritically scream "bigot" at every opportunity like a headless chicken running to and fro. |
Bobbiee:Lol, see projection! Is it a sign of your "non-bigotry" that you leapt to the assumption these herdsmen were unreasonably demanding free accommodation? My issue is the common theme amongst Fulani herdsmen where they come to a place and forcefully habitate in that place without actually paying the rightful owners and when they are being driven out, they become aggressive. This is the exact same complaint made by Yoruba landlords about renting to Igbos. It must be a sign of that "non-bigotry" of yours that you rush to make the very accusation against Fulani herdsmen that you hate when made in your direction ... For your information, everyone now knows the dirty laundry of Yoruba bigots that many people have know for years. Many yoruba landlords refuse renting accomodations to non Yorubas/Hausas and that's a fact. You say "non Yorubas/Hausas", but the truth is that their problem is with Igbos, for the very same reasons you find acceptable when Fulani herdsmen are the targets. The all too common claim made by Yoruba landlords is of how Igbos are all sweet and light before they are given accommodation, but they turn into obstinate, inconsiderate deadbeats as soon as they are taken onboard. It's an absolute certainty that the Yoruba landlords have a lot more evidence to back their position than you do against Fulanis, seeing as there are far many more Igbos looking for housing in Yorubaland than there are Fulani herdsmen seeking accommodation in Igboland. You're nothing but another brazenly hypocritical Igbo tribalist. |
Bobbiee:What rubbish! Where have they demanded to be housed for free? What they are asking for exactly the same thing Igbos complain about in Lagos - to simply be allowed to rent accommodation without discrimination. Unless you have no shame, you can't claim landlord discrimination is wrong in the SW while acceptable in the SE. |
Sleekfingers:Yet they hate it whenever the shared ethnicity of 99% of drug traffickers in Asia is mentioned. There are no bounds to their hypocrisy. |
spagettiluv:Deleting this as it was apparently sarcasm. Too bad it's hard to tell that from genuine thing on here, so full of such arrogant boasting has the site become. |
Phoen1X:And later on your kinsmen will be running around pretending the likes of you don't exist while lamenting about being "hated for no reason" ... |
Corona22:The person you're responding to is a diehard tribalist who is immune to any efforts at pointing out the glaring hypocrisy in his position. Unfortunately, far too many other people think just like him, especially in the LP since Peter Obi took it over. It's precisely for that reason that it was so easy to foresee Obi coming the distant third he did: they seem to think all those "Afonjas" and "Abokis" they were mocking would ignore all the insults and vote for their candidate anyway, and now they have the nerve to talk of a "stolen mandate" having never stood a chance in the entirety of the core north or the SW outside Lagos, thanks to their own self-sabotaging arrogance and rudeness ... |
