at least you agree with me that it does happen, Of cos all of them are not like that but number of them like that is uncomfortably too high for me Biko.
Please re-read my post I modified it. It's because there are a lot of ignorant people claiming educated and making bad decisions that they start talking down to all patients.

, no be for Nigeria oh, they even get annoyed when you ask questions oh, been to just few hospital in the states for myself and baby oh, and the end of each test,it they find anything, they will explain with words, and still print out all literature on that ailment ,its available treatments ,what to expect, prevention and give them to you to home and read up.
But here I have had doctors shout me down for asking questions concerning his diagnosis.you can't even raise any concern about any of their proposed treatment or they will grow impatient and shout you down.
It's the way you present yourself. That has only happened to be once, because he was a professor. I was mad! But the others, I make it clear that I am 100% capable of understanding to the best of my knowledge, what is wrong with me and I make it clear that I will get a 2nd opinion from other doctors. So they view me as a fun and challenging patient.

During my antenatal I couldn't sleep well so doctor prescribed Lexotan, I looked it up and discussed with my doctor about how I didn't feel comfortable taking a category D drug in my 2nd trimester for something I felt was a common pregnancy ailment (and my case wasn't bad). So he and I agreed we would try home remedies of milk before bedtime and different positions. Afterwards he praised me because he said most patients just take whatever he prescribed without asking or thinking of their medical history then complain. For example almost every doctor I've met say female patients lie about things like abortions in antenatal (that info is important so they can check if it was done well and there's no scarring in your womb walls). If issues arise, they blame the doctors.

I don't think all doctors are good because Nigeria has an educational problem but we all need to step up.

I can be forceful sha. My 1st kid, they kept chasing us back, 5hrs later I'll be back. After 3 attempts(fri/sat), they gave us a room and I had to rub her back till monday mrn. 5 days later, I did a discharge on my own recommendation, after a whole week of jaundice treatment at eko hospital, surulere! Told them I had flourscent bulb at home, natural birth was already over a 100k(2009) and I never buy ram!
Is that picture what you're calling a "fluorescent" bulb? And you're complaining about buying a ram??

Jehovah. You're an idiot. Sorry but true.

That is an Ultraviolet light, used for treating severe cases of jaundice in newborn (neonatal). They saved your son's life because if they hadn't done that, he would have died.

And you called it "fluorescent" and complained about buying a ram?!!!! Let me guess, you're a "graduate", right??

And please don't spew that talk about early morning sunlight, as that treatment only works for mild cases of jaundice, which is probably not what your son had and he got better after a week of UV treatment. If you had refused and he had died (2-3 says of severe jaundice will kill most newborns) you'd have come here to rant. When your careless ignorance caused it.

I'm not a doctor or nurse, btw, just an informed parent. But you have seriously annoyed me tonight. You and the OP have shown the kind of ignorance that made me stop helping almost all the cases I hear of, because Nigerian stvpidity and wilful ignorance is high and we need to reduce the population of ignorant half-baked graduates (let Natural Selection get rid of them). I mean, you could have used your phone to Google the treatment o....Chai.

And to anyone complaining, go to GH. At least they treat you not based on profit. I use private for our regular medicals and when we have an issue I call the GH doctors and tell them we are coming or ask them for a 2nd opinion and crosscheck with my private hospital. That's your right as a patient, ask for a 2nd opinion if you are not sure of your attending physician.

If you believe a lecturer will just take out belt and start FLOGGING a female student, and there will be no one in the university to back her up, then I am sorry, you are messed up.
Flogging a female in broad daylight will trigger plenty emotional responses that will be enough to nail the lecturer. The lecturer did no wrong in preventing her from returning to the exam hall in the first instance. She was under exam conditions and should have sort permission before going to carry table.
There are many bad lecturers, but Kemi has not shown any proofs to paint Mr Olorunfemi black.
Let her story be verified. But stop defending this man. And yes, I've seen people get insulted by lecturers for nothing and the entire class kept silent (who wants to fail or get an extra year. Nigerians believe "everyman for himself"wink. I've seen a lecturer chase a female student around his office during the afternoon and nothing was done. For her to be this confident to name him and boldly state her name and the case clearly, most likely she had enough proof. And the reason she was coerced into dropping the case is the same reason most U.S. policemen shoot unarmed black people and get away with it: to damn one is to damn all. If they let a student have the power over their colleague, it means one day another student will have power over their own jobs.

Do you know why things are bad in Nigeria? Because everyone gets away who doing whatever they want and people will rush and defend them. Until it happens to them and they realise that by silencing the others, their injustice was also silenced.

She says she had witnesses. She addressed the Dean and HOD. She went to NHRC to lodge a complaint. Does that sound like the behaviour of someone making up stuff? Everything she says is verifiable, all you need do is to verify it. Instead you are here saying "she made it up, she jacked his collar, it is female against male".

She knows her rights and has the willpower and some clout to start this fight. You defending the man and attacking her, will sit dumbly and be smiling like he-goats when police, soldiers or anyone with some level of authority is dealing with you and we all ignore.

Nigeria is for the intelligent. Leave the poor and poverty-minded to continue to wallow.

For babies who don't like drinking water, may I suggest an alternative?

Try giving fresh watermelon. The fruit has 92% water content. Cut some and put it in the fridge for more deliciousness. Give small chunks to baby (I put it in my own and encourage her to collect it, practising her coordination and pincer movement and learning to feed herself). Also drain some of the juice as you're cutting it and put in a drinking cup to give baby to refresh herself. So baby still gets water and also nutrients. HTH.

You tell your mother. Also, sit down and speak to her: tell her adults have sexx and that's she's a child. That sexx when you are a child has consequences like pregnancy and disease. That you are a man and you and your friends like to use girls her age and dump them and be laughing at their stupidity behinds their backs and calling them oloshos. So if she doesn't want to be part of that, she should stop. And if anyone older than her showed her, they are trying to destroy her life. If any senior student did it to her or even spoke to her about it, let her tell you do your parents take it up with the school.
Take her phone from her and replace with a cheap phone that can only make calls and send texts. No more locking of her door, she's a child, so no privacy until this is sorted out.

I think Nigerians should stop being hypocritical and start a program called "Safe Surrender".

Every church and mosque should put on their bulletin boards and newsletters, the names of the nearest Government-approved orphanages and Motherless Babies' Homes. So that anyone who needs to give up a child should be able to anonymously give the baby to them. The homes will have an open area, 24 hours open and free from security men and anyone wanting to do oversabi, where one can hand a baby over without saying a word or answering questions: just show up, hand baby and walk away. On the bulletin it should clearly state that once you hand a baby over, you cannot go back to claim or look for it, ever again. You have effectively given your consent to a closed adoption. Government is not liable since you volunteered to safely surrender the child to a home. The information will be written in every indigenous language. The staff of the Safe Surrender Zone will be trained to ask absolutely no questions but to collect the child (or maybe all they can ask is age of baby).

Babies who come into the system through this way should be fasttracked through the adoption process. Because ritualists know where to buy children cheaply for their evil deeds, so please fasttrack legal adoptions because there are coupled whose desperation has led them to buying babies. Which is risky.

That is the only way to curb this madness.

I hope you don't mind but your post just made me realise how much we sometimes have to pay as child care costs around here!

I imagine you also had someone to do the house chores in addition to nanny's fees and creche fees.

This is probably because one cant fully entrust the children into nanny's hands alone, for security and abuse reasons.

Makes me wonder if we mums should bother being in paid employment with children below secondary school age!
Honestly there should be an option of paid reduced hours or compensation for mothers at home but Nigeria is actually very anti-family and once you decide to stay home, your gist may end up in NL Family section as a topic grin

Would you ignore your husband for 1 month?
They're fixing drains around us and this has driven mosquitoes into the house. That has made us take the decision to keep our baby in our small bed whilst we hurriedly got a mosquito net. I am currently "ignoring" him. He has not died and I have scheduled "shenanigans" for when I drop her off and rush to a good spot to book a night for us and celebrate his birthday in 2 weeks' time. (He doesn't know that yet so no-one spoil it smiley)

Because a lot of you guys are not understanding (no-one has taught you to put others first) and see women as the "enemy to be subdued", you marry and make selfish decisions. You guys end up regretting it when you know how much destruction it causes later in life but by then it's too late.

OP, please ignore my post and listen to the guys on NL encouraging you to think like a lowly animal. Who doesn't know how to step back and look at the big picture but thinks only of now, instant gratifcation and selfishness. She's tired and her sex drive has disappeared taking care of YOUR CHILD but hey, what do I know (shrug). My husband knows the best thing to do is speak to me because if he goes sulking, I'm too exhausted chasing a baby to realise that he's blanking me or worse, I assume whatever caused the sulks will resolve itself. That is what your mouth is for, not discussing Football stats alone but communicating with people.

We've been married for a year now and blessed with a pretty daughter. My wife feels little or no urge to be intimate. Its been more than a month now since I had s*x. Reason being that, am angry inside of me that she is always not in the mood, so I decided to hold myself and see when she'll realize it that am angry about it and do the needful. But it seems like am just suffering my self because she seems not to realize she needs to do something fast. I am feeling like cheating on her as a way to punish her maybe she'll realize it that she needs to satisfy her husband to keep him away from other ladies outside. I urgently need advice from married nairalanders... Is the situation d same or similar in ur marriage, and how do I resolve this differences. Am really disturbed
Dude, you sound so.....gosh, what's the word...selfish. Yes. Selfish.

Plus you're most going to throw your marriage, peace of mind and happiness away, hurt your child irrevocably, scare your wife away in the near future. All the best, there are a lot of unhappy divorced naija man out there (i used to think they were all balling but strangely they all hate being single).

Seriously.

You didn't bother communicating with her, most likely didn't put any effort into romancing your woman, you're now sulking mentally and decided the best way to "punish" her is by cheating?

She doesn't want to sleep with you because she already is taking care of one small baby, she didn't realise she married another immature baby.

So something has cropped up in your marriage and instead of you to look for a good way to fix it, make your union strong, make society be impressed by your principled stand to keep to your vows and earn your wife's love and loyalty forever, you wrote this??

Mstchewwww.

You better go and get someone to come and carry that baby for a few hours. Then take your wife to a guesthouse and let her sleep for a bit, get your lust satisfied and THEN speak up about how you understand it's exhausting being a new mum and you're here for her but you didn't like being ignored whilst she lost herself in her role because you need her too and will always be willing to support and carry your weight around the house.

Or you can do whatever you want...

I must say that I am petrified at some of the comments. It explains a whole lot. To quote my daughter "Are you guys for real?"
I've never been to a traditional Bone setter (and would be terrified to go) but how do you explain all these people with positive and negative comments on them? Clearly there's more to it than "they're all awful, incompetent quacks" and like one said, traditional medicine is encouraged with western medicine side by side in several countries who have better healthcare and medical staff than we do.

It's the same issue we have with childbirth and midwives: we have cases of successful midwives delivery and doctors in the west are beginning to ask themselves "do we need so much medical intervention in a normal childbirth situation, why not trust the midwives?" Same issue with Paediatric dentistry (no-one in my hospital abroad realised my baby couldn't open her mouth well due to a tongue tie and assumed it was my faulty breastfeeding technique until a lactation consultant showed them the issue and I was told that in Nigeria, it's the trado-medical people who find these things as doctors are no longer trained to check for them at birth).

Perhaps start a centre whereby qualified Traditional Bone Setters can come and learn hygiene and other necessary things as well as doctors learn from them too. This will create a register of qualified ones and weed out the fakes who handle cases beyond their expertise. And yes, I say this as someone whose family are doctors who used to lecture in universities.

Most likely Tag the Sponsor. They like setting up most the Instagram oloshos and exposing them. So many white girls, African girls and more with flamboyant lifestyles on IG are into this business. All your Nigerian govt bigwigs like importing babes for parties (some will stay and have one random cover job like "travel agent, interior decor, designer, fashion consultant". I've even seen flyers of promoters that will write "white girls available".So many of them are now trying to set their Instagram pages to private so they can hide the fact that their lifestyle cannot be supported by their supposed cover jobs.

Avalaon316, I knew white girls who grew up in the USA into this business. It's not about the country, its the general air of debauchery pervading society. The world has changed, from the minute Kim Kardashian made hersel a profit on her lewdness and everyone supported and encouraged her.

I get you, but at the end of the day, your claim was based on the evidence from unknown persons but the official release from the school after the conduct of their investigation says he's innocent, Moreso, the principal is a woman, I doubt if she will shield him because of allegiance or anything for such a serious case as rape. However I support the move of the alumni association, if they can collect evidence against him then they should take it up with him properly. It's not impossible he's guilty and it's not impossible he's innocent but I won't like proclaiming him guilty without giving him the benefit of the doubt.
The principal of the case I mentioned was also a female, it happened to females and she covered it up. Her job rather than some students she didn't bother to find out their names.

I think he's guilty of being very inappropriate at the least and should be suspended. Since 2005 is a long time for people to keep accusing you of the same thing. They all cannot be lying. And i would have been more understanding but I have had experience with this and it was covered up. So...

He is fine

I went to General Hospital on Sunday. I waited for 5 hrs and left. I wasn't attended to. They had so many emergencies. Why I decided not to wait again was because the few mamas they attended to was discouraging. They listen to your complain and say nothing is wrong with your baby, take him home and bring him tomorrow.

The nurse that took my file examined him said even though he has, it's a mild one. Another nurse that checked his temperature and weigh also said same.

The discharge is not coming out like before.

Thanks ma
What were his stats? As in temperature. If it isn't over 39°C they won't take it as an emergency.

Mama's, seriously try and get yourselves a small digital thermometer. It helps so you know if it's a mild fever or not, so you don't go and be waiting, only for them to say "not an emergency, go home". Digital thermometers are cheap and some come in the baby care set (like Summer Infant's own).

Add little water into a pot allow to boil then add semo lina while stiring, stop adding semo wen you get the consistency you need (it shouldn't be thick) then cover to cook for few seconds , you can add more water if it's thick and stir dats all
Add milk and serve.
I made this for my 2years -5yrs kids.
I just called the Grandmother and asked her about this idea, she kept shouting at me on the phone. I really wanna try it (I've even bought the semo) but now I'm worried. Is it safe for a 9 month old? Thanks.

What if after the investigation he was found innocent, will you offer an apology for calling him "idiot". There's no smoke without a fire, the principal has already spoken in his support, including the previous principal, the students say he's innocent yet you said he isn't. Why is it that a man is always pronounced guilty of rape especially by women even without trial.
There's a history of cover-ups of this nature in a lot of government schools. Those principals are civil servants, which means there's room for promotion after becoming a principal. So do you think they want to jeopardise their careers because of something like this? They would be held responsible. So they do their best to hush things. I knew such a case like this once and it was hushed up beautifully, the principal in question screamed abuses at the witnesses (there were even witnesses) and browbeat them until they all shut up, shivering in fear in front of her as she threatened to expel them for spreading the story. The principal also came out and declared nothing happened and it was all a malicious lie. She turned a blind eye when the people involved also punished the students for daring to speak up. That was the last time any sort of story like that came out, it may have been discussed amongst students but no-one took it to the Teaching body. And that is how you end up never protecting young girls.

It was clear from the start that this man was guilty of crossing the line of acceptable behaviour with female students (even people who knew him from JAMB lessons came here and said he was a bit too inappropriate for them and conservative minds in their class, talk less of younger girls).
