iomoge2, will you have access to a very cold freezer in the hospital or at home after birth? If you do, you should try and make a Witch Hazel padsicle. I had one after I gave birth and didn't need to sitz bath (I only did them because everyone said I should).

Get alcohol-free Witch Hazel (either from Healthplus or online from Jules Therapy on Konga.com), mix 60: 40 ratio witch hazel to cold water (you can put regular water and freeze the entire mixture) and soak with a towel and put it in your pad. You can add Aloe Vera gel (which you can extract from the plant or get Fruit of the Earth aloe Vera gel), Lavender essential oil (also from Healthplus or Ebeano) and add to the mix. You don't even have to pour it on a towel, you can pour the mixture straight between your legs. But it has to be alcohol-free Witch Hazel.

I would have mentioned it earlier but those ingredienta have gotten a bit pricey with the dollar issue.

Well, I haven't any experience in buying one, but I do believe Eko-Idumota market (Lagos Island) is a good place to start. Also, there are companies with online presence selling some. Try googling them.

I want to rant small.

My baby weighed 6.5 at 4 months,1 week, he is 7 months and still weighs 6.6kg. When I introduced Gerber rice at 4 months,he finishes 125ml of the food but it gave him constipation, so I told his care giver to be making his food light. I had to stop the food because the constipation still continued. So I introduced cerelac. I told mama (as we call her) to make it thick cos it doesn't cause him constipation but for where, she makes the food so light and just 75ml. When I complained, she said he doesn't collect more than that. I was busy giving him only breastmilk at home.

Last week, I introduced pap, mama said he collects the pap well but at home, he didn't. So I gave him his cereal. I made it thick and up to 125ml, before 3 mins, my baby finished it. 3 hours later, I fed him the same quantity, he finished it. So we continued. I cried in my heart that we have been starving this boy.

So I put the quantity I make in each of that cereal dispenser, I told mama, 100ml of water and finish 1 of the plates and feed him every 3 hours. Lo and behold when I check during break, she didn't finish it. I got angry. I told her my mind.

Next feed, she join the previous plate she left and the second plate, my baby finished it.

He has finished the 400g I bought on Sunday night shocked shocked shocked shocked
rezzy-dear, have you found another source of income, have your millions landed grin because Cerelac is now N1100 per can and it may rise further. So if he's finishing it quite fast, you may need to run for LG chairman and embezzle some public funds. I'm in the same situation and when I see how Baby E sometimes decides halfway to waste food and pour it on the floor, I shed bitter tears inwardly. But I've decided to stop crying....

And announce my candidancy for Local Government Chairperson!!!! Please come and support me with your votes, illegal and otherwise! grin

Good evening mothers. Mil is fond of opening windows throughout. I've pleaded but said she can't sleep in heat. We always visit one weekend every month. Dh said I should be covering Ds up and so I did but mosquitoes still managed to bite his face all over. Showed mil but said he was reacting to something and I left her place without saying anything.
I've decided to be taking mosquito net with me as I can't do without her.
Now ds is having temperature. Went to pharmacy and bought maxiquine syrup. I used it this morning and now. Pls is 2.5ml okay for 6months baby? I forgot to ask the pharmacist and no prescription dosage for baby on the leaflet.
I don't think you should be dosing your child just like that because it is easy to build up a resistance to most drugs and pharmacists tend to slightly over-prescribe (in my personal opinion). Unless you have done a blood test to ascertain malaria, stay off the meds and just give Infant Tylenol/Calpol to treat the temperature and wash him down with lukewarm (not cold) water. If he starts showing more of malaria, then take him to the hospital. Too many doctors complain that Parents abuse antibiotics and malaria drugs here, causing Drug-Resistance and if they continue, weakening baby's liver. Take a mosquito net with you next time so you don't get into an argument with MiL and get your husband to agree on this so he is the one that will tell your MiL.

Mamas, please i need to confirm this. One lady has been on my neck condemning my diet.
She said i should stay away from fried rice, sweet potato, salad, fried egg and any sweet meal until my LO is 6months. I can't even take malt or use milk in my meals without hiding away from her prying eyes. My LO is currently 3months.

Abeg na true?
Not true. Salad (without dressing) is pretty healthy. Sweet potatoes are actually very rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin A. Even with alcohol, you'd have to be drinking heavily and constantly to pass it through your breastmilk in large enough quantities to hurt Hansel. Malt is just sugar so I agree on that. Milk is good, why deprive yourself and Hansel of Calcium?
Family › Re: My Serial Cheating Husband Keeps Begging For Forgiveness by Onegai(f): 7:39am On Oct 06, 2016
Napa, you're not going to get decent answers from Nairaland. Not anymore. The sensible people have left and others will just avoid this thread. You cannot pray this away, you cannot help someone who does not want to be helped. If you like, delete all his numbers and block his social media sites, what stops him from getting a hidden phone (a woman came here and told us her husband advanced to that level), what stops him opening an anonymous account (another came here and said the same). He knows what he's doing is wrong, that's why he apologises. Sure, someone he respects can talk to him, but one of my former friends got some serious speaking to, told me he didn't want to spoil a good thing in his marriage and was remorseful. Then he hit on me that afternoon. And then he hit on another coworker a few months later.

You need to ask yourself what you believe in, what you can accept and what is the line for you. All I will tell you is this: if you have kids, the more they grow up and understand their father, the more it is going to affect them negatively. Trust me. Trust me on that. Our society is broken and filled with children who saw their fathers lie, cheat, take no personal responsibility, be immoral yet hypocritical about "training them" and now to find an honest person in Nigeria to even do business with is like searching for a needle in a haystack. The only person that can stop him is himself. He has to make a life-changing decision. You also have to make a life-changing decision: do you stay, do you leave, do you focus on everything else except him?

3. Throwing up his food after eating (either d raw breast milk or frm d stomach after sm minutes. Ds been going on for some weeks now. Plz how can I stop him frm spitting up his food?

Thanks all n do have a great nyt n for we vigilante mamas more strenght.

Cc: all sabi mamas,
No.3 was answered here and I think I remembered it was said you shouldn't lie baby down after feeding but support his head up so the food stays down and burp him well. That amount of poo may be nothing scary (is it yellow-brown and paste-like like peanut butter?). If it is, it should be fine. Take him back to the hospital let them check that stooling out and if you are given another set of antibiotics, try it and if it doesn't stop, stop the antibiotics because you don't want him building a resistance. Pele.

A lot of people don't know this. Anyone who plies that road frequently will tell you it has escalated and no-one in Govt did a thing about it. But everytime prominent people travel via road, they usually call ahead to station police around it. Mrs Emefiele is not a flashy lady, she doesn't "convoy" and blare sirens for the world to notice. I'm sure the kidnappers saw a nice car and went for it, not knowing the heat that would follow (also, their organisers also helped give them up to the police).

Happy Teacher's Day, Dyt and all our teachers.

For our professional teachers, please try and always update your knowledge. Yes, it should be subsidised but it isn't. So do the little you can. Sometimes, think amd teach outside the curriculum. Some of my favourite teachers would always do that.

Let me also add this. Please be sure you know how to suction it out with your mouth before attempting it.
Don't suction too hard else you might cause more harm than good. Just be swift and gentle.
You can use a mouthwash afterwards.
Thanks for mentioning this, it slipped my mind.

Mamas, if you don't know how to suction, abeg use bulb syringe. Because my sis has treated babies with too much suctioning and she said over-hard sucking out of mucus can hurt them (cause bleeding inside the nostrils).

It's not really about food. It's more about her not speaking up when she has reservation about something and not being willing to apologize when she finally agrees that she didn't do well.
Because you will nag and argue till you're proven right. Which is what you're doing now. Even though everyone has said she's wrong about this and she needs to change her behaviour, they have also said you need to work on this but instead of listening to that, you keep harping on smaller matters "it's the food, it's the School, it's the neighbours standing or lack of it". So let me tell you what you want to hear:
You're right as always! She's a bad wife, you deserve better! Useless woman! Infact make sure you give her some brain-resetting slaps! Beat her! Be a man, get a gf outside to be cooking the way you like it. She doesn't deserve a man like you, infact get ready for divorce. I'm sure she used to be an olosho and is now showing you her true colours. You deserve a submissive virgin who is sexier than Beyonce and harder-working than all the women in the bible combined with a sweet temperament. How dare she!
At least thank me for that. Those who will say that more subtly to poison your mind better have not not come (but they will soon be on their way). I've saved them data and typed their answer. You're welcome smiley

If you continue nagging and arguing with her, she will continue saying "yes" to your face and "no" behind your back. And she will keep taking everyone else's advice than yours and never asking for your counsel. You don't have an issue yet, but you soon will.

Summary: she's wrong, she needs to change and learn how to apologise, you need to not nag her.
Family › Re: My Wife Is Too Proud To Apologise by Onegai(f): 9:27pm On Oct 04, 2016
mrk74:
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate. However on the bolded, I'm not trying to compare us with our neighbour. We are quite better off than they in many aspects (financially and health of our relationship), so there won't be any basis of comparison and we are not the type though. I got the idea of vegetables from an online health journal but decided to make it the way our neighbour did because I had previously also learnt of some health benefits of unripe plantain which however I never used to enjoy right from childhood until the one I got from our neighbour.
It's not about the food or the neighbours, it is about you amd her and how the request was made, especially with yor history admitting you nag her a lot about cooking issues. There no way that wouldn't have come out hurtful and felt like you were comparing her unfavourably to the neighbour's wife and her cooking skills. That is the problem with nags, their words come out hurtful even when they mean well. And the one way people react to nags is by deliberately ignoring their commands. Which is what your wife is doing. So you really have to work on it so she reacts better. She is at fault for not apologising but so are you.
Family › Re: My Wife Is Too Proud To Apologise by Onegai(f):
You guys are having these issues because you're still in the "We Just Got married" phase. You seem more angry about the fact she disobeyed you rather than what she actually did. The unripe plantain with vegetables, c'mon dude, what were you expecting? If she comes to tell you "this is how the neighbour's husband plans his finances and I really like it and you should do it too", won't a little part of your mind go "are you comparing us or trying to tell me you're not happy with what I'm doing??". Be honest.

So you guys need to learn how to say things properly. Byvan03 is right, this will eventually change. She is refusing to apologise because she grew up in our society with her eyes open. And truly, it would scare even a submissive girl to read NL's general misogyny and not be afraid that you expressing your honest feelings and demanding she do the right thing becomes her apprehensively apologising for your cheating one day. If you think it's a lie, I'm sure you're using the words "she's disobedient" because you also grew up in our society with your eyes open and you think every minor feminine infraction needs to be nipped in the bud swiftly or she will become a Princess and a Feminist (which...is really hard ti be, if one truly understands feminism, but I won't digress).

Next time she cooks with ingredients you don't like, simply don't eat. Don't make a fuss, just say you're not hungry and go make yourself something else. When she eventually comes to ask what's wrong (and if she's reading this), tell her:

"I'm not one of those guys. I'm not going to turn your life into a living hell and force you to smile through it. I love you, but when you refuse to listen to me or don't apologise, it hurts and it makes me think maybe I should start messing you up like those guys. It makes me feel unvalued, don't use your hand to spoil anything because you are afraid of the unknown. So from here on, we are going to work on things: we will not let the sun rise on our anger, we will apologise once we are calm. Don't sweep it under the carpet until it comes as a fire to burn our lives down. As for that unripe plantain dish, why not we check on Food section and see if we can learn it there?".

Does this sound good?

cutiereborn and mamamj, can you stop any powder you're using on baby? Also, if you have tried Antibiotics and it didn't work, it may be an allergy (allergy symptoms are usually coughing and cartaarh, since they affect eye, nose and throat). Which means some particles like dust or pollen is lodging in their lungs and irritating them. So no fans directly on them (because it pushes particles into their system. The fans should be above them facing in their direction but not blowing on them and it should be some distance from them. Rechargeable fans are short-necked so it is too close to baby, it will blow particles into their face and they will breathe it in. Go back to the doctor and ask him about allergies and he will prescribe a syrup for them. I don't want to mention the name so you don't buy it dirctly without a prescription (I heard it can cause drowsiness).
A lot of babies outgrow their allergies but some keep them (I still have mine). What you don't want to do is aggravate it and cause Asthma.

As for his weight, are you slim? Slim babies doesn't mean unhealthy and if he's not heavy, try giving him a little bit more milk. If he rejects it, then he's full and just a smallish boy. Doesn't mean he's not healthy, he may be one of your tall, slim basketball-er types in the future smiley

In case you can't get that, can you try these tips from KellyMom (it is one of the best resources on Breastfeeding and is recommended by doctors). Sabi mamas, happy new month to you all. It has been a terrible time for me this past weeks. My baby (10wks) added only 0.1kg to his 6wks weight and this got me so worried that I had to take him to a ped.
He was diagnosed of respiratory tract infection and pcv level of 24.
In fact they had to transfuse him and kept on antibiotics for 9days(we were on admission for 2 days). It was the most scary days of my life but in all I give God all the glory that he is a lot better now though still having blocked nose as a result of mucus.
Pls great mums, I am still confused on how his blood level will drop so low with this his short life.
Any ideas, though the ped tried to explain to me but still confused.
Also, any ideas on how to get the mucus in his nose to start flowing or how do I extract it if it doesn't.
I also want him to gain wait as soon as possible, he is not on Ebf.
oh wow. Pele. I'm guessing his body was fighting a strong infection and his white blood cells couldn't increase fast enough (an elevated white blood cell count shows an infection. Think of more police showing up after a riot or robbery). Use all those mucus sucking bulbs and gently extract it and don't steam him. Just feed him normally and try and give him breastmilk in addition to formula, that's all you can do. He should start gaining weight now the infection has been fought. Well done for catching it on time.

Respiratory Tract Infections are usually a cause of lack of weight gain in babies. I know Ayolight had that issue and won, so you're gonna be fine. Just keep monitoring him and if things still don't look good in 2 weeks, mention me here (my email is acting up as usual).
