kasheemawo: firstly what is the medical term? Secondly churches are in best position to build house with concrete foundation through tithe and excess from private jets. Lately support ur claims wit pix or book. The medical term is "someone wrote on my body with a marker" The flood in Indonesia happened in an area with almost no Christians. Or, how do you know that churches did not survive? Did the photographer only take photos of mosques? So many questions.....and in the end religion is shown to be based on nothing but belief in superstitions, confirmation bias, cherry-picking, and unverifiable reports. |
abubello: @onetrack You didnt say anything about the maiize with Allah's name on itIt looks like a project from a school art class. |
kasheemawo: i love the way u think but if u can reason well like being u shd be able to deduce that Islam is a religion acccepted to God.........are u telling me that only mosques were connstructed wit concrate and others wit sand? secondely bring ur prove where kaaba was destroyed and pharhap ppl that tried it were distroyed together wit there elephants see Quran 105Do some research. The Kaaba was destroyed in a battle between rival groups of Muslims in 680 AD, then again in a flood in the 1600s. The current Kaaba dates from the 1600s because of this flood. Religious buildings are usually made from sturdier material than private homes of poor people, which are often made of wood or mud-brick. If you live in Nigeria then you already know this! There are also stories of churches surviving floods as well. Also answer me why mosques can and have been destroyed by Christians in Nigeria during riots in places like Kaduna? If Islam is truly a 'religion of God' then why doesn't he protect all the mosques instead of just some of them? |
kasheemawo: Can u explain this to me,it happened in Indonesia tsunami disasters where only mosques were left even churches were washed away like other houses. The mosque is better built than the other buildings, that is all. This is not unusual given that mosques are built with sturdier materials like stone or reinforced concrete. Even the Kaaba in Mecca has been destroyed twice since Muhammad's time. |
How come these things never happen to well-educated atheist families in Sweden, but only uneducated religious families? Anyhow, it's clear to me why the markings appear and then fade away: the ink that the man used to write on the child will fade away after a couple of baths. When the man writes some more verses, that is when they appear again. I can do this very thing in my own home, and I'm an atheist! |
frosbel: Why , am I surprised at your statement, atheists don't care about body count, the higher the better , just ask your comrades, Stalin, Pol Pot and Chairman Mao.Loool, I am not a communist, Stalin and the others are not my comrades any more than the Spanish conquistadores are yours. Do you not think that the Spanish conquistadores would not have killed whatever number of Natives it would have taken in order to convert them to the holy universal church? That's why the body count number is irrelevant. Intent is all that matters, and there is no shortage of religious people who have intended to kill as many people as possible to force religious orthodoxy on a population. |
"It is true that it's possible that religion can produce evil, and generally when we look closer at the detail it produces evil because the individual people are actually living in a rejection of the tenets of Christianity and a rejection of the God that they are supposed to be following. So it can produce it, but the historical fact is that outright rejection of God and institutionalizing of atheism actually does produce evil on incredible levels. We're talking about tens of millions of people as a result of the rejection of God.”No True Scotsman fallacy right there. It has been estimated that in less than the past 100 years, governments under the banner of communism have caused the death of somewhere between 40,472,000 to 259,432,000 human lives.Who cares about the body count. The fact that more people have been killed by un-elected communist dictators than earlier, religious regimes is a function of the much larger population of the 20th century than earlier centuries. Don't think that religious governments of earlier times would not have killed that many people if there had been 100,000,000 heretics to be killed. "Oh, we're Christian kings; we can only kill 10,000,000 of them instead of 100,000,000!" |
Logicboy03: Copy and pasteOr, alternatively, 'undemocratic governments and mass murder' |
inspiredbyGOD:.:If God exists he is certainly not worthy of any honor or admiration, given all the evil he has caused in the world, including drowning the entire world and starting over just because he couldn't get it right the first time. Such a god is to be cursed and condemned. |
inspiredbyGOD:.:Wrong. God is not above human judgment, after all it is we who created him! |
I also think that a decent list of atheist videos should be posted and kept at the top of the religion section. There are people more eloquent than many of us who elaborate the atheist position very well. My personal fave is Gore Vidal, who died last year. He was a generation older than Dawkins and Hitchens, and an outspoken atheist in a time when the US was more like Nigeria in regards to atheists. This is a short example of him on a panel discussion; I like the part between 2:30 and 4:00. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk0uukp8B_o |
You forgot that God is also arrogant, egotistical, pig-headed, self-righteous, uneducated, spoiled, temperamental, capricious, mendacious, cruel, sadistic..... |
If you have enough random lines, eventually one of them will happen to resemble the arab script for God, since it isn't a complicated figure. An analogy: if I piss onto a road while waving my 'thing' around randomly, at some point the urine will make a trail on the road resembling the arab word for god. |
England used to be as religious as Nigeria.....that period of time is known as the English Civil War (1642-1649). Good times. |
tobechi20: In atheism u do sth wrong , use logic to convince urself that it is right ,tel urself u did it because of prevailin circumstance,...With religion, you can also do something wrong and then find some verse in your holy book to justify what you did. I fail to see the difference. Want to invade and take over some other country? Simple, just claim that you want to save their souls from eternal damnation by forcing them to convert to Christianity at gunpoint. This argument was the basis for European colonization for centuries. |
http://soundcloud.com/bbc-world-service/nigerian-atheist-leo-igwe Also a humanist conference is taking place in Ghana as we speak. http://ghanahumanists./2012/10/06/ghana-to-host-international-humanist-conference/ Did anyone of the intrepid nairaland atheists attend? I am in West Africa but not close enough to get there easily or cheaply... |
tonymariao: 1. Wealth- the quest to be rich by any means even if it means killing or defrauding others telling u how happy n influential u gonna be 2. Women- making u see women as only a sex tool, introducing crazy fashions to win more souls and using ppl to advertize sex aggressively even through music(songs) 3. Wine-(drunkenness) using it to divide families, homes and good friends e.t.c God help us all- AmenI'm sorry, but I disagree. I am perfectly capable of wanting all of those things all by myself without the devil telling me! |
ijawkid: @OP....in what ways has anyone imposed his or her religion on you??....Try telling everyone (friends, family, boss) that you are an atheist and see what happens (if you are in naija). |
I heard that 'God' actually stands for "Glorifying our Devil". So please stop using the word God, it might be Satanic also. |
Logicboy you have my full support. I am quite busy as of late in my real life but it's nice to see you continue to fight the good fight. Onward Atheist Soldiers! |
Spinoza's description of god is the only version of god that I could consider to be possible. |
ijawkid: I should show you??....And you are the proof that the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists. Let us therefore pray that he touches all of us with his noodly appendage! RAmen! |
ijawkid: Oh he doesn't??.....Then show him to me. Until then you are using the 'argument from ignorance' fallacy. |
fellis: How can you compare homosexuality to eating coconuts? That analogy is very unsuitable; having preference for a type of food is not an abnormality unlike homosexuality. How do you define abnormal? Whether it is food or what you find attractive, it's all just a matter of taste, and there's no reason to ban either one, if you believe in a certain level of liberty. I was commenting about someone who found homosexuality weird, and I made analogy based upon weirdness. |
nosa gold: Personally, I don't support homosexuality. I mean who would rather choose to be with a man over a woman. It's weird for me too, but I also think that people who like to eat coconut are weird. Coconut is disgusting. But I don't want to ban the consumption of coconut just because I find it weird. |
I think homosexuality should be legalized. First, as an atheist, I see no no issues of morality. Two adults who want to live together, have sex, etc., is none of the government's business. Second, I think it's best that the homosexuals be allowed to live openly so that they won't be forced to marry someone they don't want to. It will only be an unhappy marriage for reasons beyond the wife's control, and the gay is likely to keep having sex on the side, thus committing adultery and possibly transmitting diseases to his unfortunate wife. Bad situation there. |
Kay 17: Sexual identity is basically a social construct, heterosexual sex and homosexual sex are still sex, justifiable and appealing to the participants on the basis of pleasure. For those that agree against the 'unnatural" lesbian sex, have to face the contradiction that Nature rewards the act with pleasure. That's really it in a nutshell. In addition, the presence of same-gender-attracted individuals may have provided some not-yet-understood social benefit to early human societies which increased overall survival rates for humans. "Survival of the fittest" behaviors are sometimes not very obvious at first inspection. |
Logicboy03: Simple contradiction for you. How can god dislike incest but then allow Adam and Eve to engage in incest? Adam was the parent of Eve.My all time favorite has to be the story of Job. God lets poor Job be |
ijawkid: I know its not my business what people do in privacy or in there bedrooms, but that wouldn't stop me from saying the truth.....Why should someone condemn others just because they find what they do disgusting? I find the taste of coconut disgusting, but I don't run around condemning the act of eating coconut! As long as what they do is with consenting adults, who cares? Why should I care if someone performs oral pleasure on his wife, even if I found it disgusting? |
Don't waste your time praying and waiting for God. Instead, be on the lookout for the next opportunity. Sometimes we all end up in bad circumstances. Eventually you will work through these things, and you'll be smarter the next time around. Keep your options open, and whatever you do, just work hard at it. Don't expect things to be easy. I've had some difficulties but I got through them and things are fine. --an atheist |
Nothing should be 'done' to them. I have no issues with homosexuals. |
What's so unusual about this? This is the method that has been used for thousands of years! |
