PoliticsRe: FG Reverses On Warri PTI Upgrade by ono(m): 5:02pm On Jul 27, 2009
That's how all the deceit and foul play starts.

NDA is an ''academy''. I gathered that ''academy'' didn't start awarding degrees from the start. But a time came and the FG felt it was good enough to start awarding degrees in all the courses run by the institution - 1985 or thereabout. How do you plan to convince anyone that thesame scenario that played out with NDA is not what these cattle herdsmen are planning to foist on us at this time?

PTI has been in existence since the early 70s - it's probably the oldest federal institution still awarding diplomas and certificates in this country. Well, this is not about PTI like you rightly stated. But there is a Federal University of Petroleum Resources fledging and growing nearby the PTI. Just when this was taking off, that's when Lukman and his crop of ethnic biased northerners felt they need to clip the wings of the new University - and move it to their own dry, perched and arid ground.

I urge all MEND boys to blow to shreds any presence of any new ''upgrades'' anywhere.
PoliticsRe: FG Reverses On Warri PTI Upgrade by ono(m): 4:50pm On Jul 27, 2009
And don't come up with that bull crap excuse of ''federal character'' and stuff. . . .  , I will not buy into it.
PoliticsRe: FG Reverses On Warri PTI Upgrade by ono(m): 4:48pm On Jul 27, 2009
debosky:
That is a wrong statement - have you actually READ FOR YOURSELF what the minister said? Instead you are making comments on sensationalist reporting without looking at the FACTS as they stand for themselves.

The urge for misinformation on this matter is amazing - people talk about something being moved and other things being downgraded when this is not the case.

Warri PTI upgrade has not been canceled - a 'proposed' University sited adjacent has been canceled. Nothing has been 'moved' to Kaduna, an existing institute is being upgraded, just like PTI has been upgraded. Nothing more.
And why cancel that ''proposed'' university?

Delta State has no Federal University anywhere in that state. So, if this Petroleum University in Delta is a way of making the people of that state feel and have a sense of belonging, why on earth did the FG relocate it to Kaduna?

Kaduna have the NDA - A degree awarding military institution. They also have the Aviation school and a host of other Federal Government controlled agencies. So, why relocate this strategic petroleum university to Kaduna? Why not Bayelsa or Akwa-Ibom - if they MUST relocate it?

CultureRe: Tiv, Wives Of Tiv(non Tiv Married To Tiv People), Friends of Tiv This Way Please by ono(m): 10:24am On Jul 04, 2009
KB1:
Did you Tiv folks know that your people were the original holders and rulers of the northern lands of Nigeria in which are most commonly refered to as the lands of the Hausa today? It was about 1200 years ago that the Hausa came pouring into the the rich fertile lands from the Northern Sahel in what is today Chad, Niger and Darfur Sudan, with their Herds of cattle and goats in that their traditional herding lands had become over crowded and exhausted. Upon arriving in your lands, the migrants, were at first very friendly and the Tiv allowed them to settle in the lands and feed their animals, then after about 80 years in the lands the Hausa numbers had skyrocketed to become more than that of the Tiv in the land, and it was then that a infamous Hausa ruler out of Niger who was of Islamic faith invaded the lands with his massive army, in a Jihad aimed to convert the Hausa people living in the lands into Muslims. He succeeded and in time via via various military conflicts with the Tiv, he managed to take nearly the entire North eastern corner of what is today Nigeria away from the tiv.

But he wasn't happy with just that, soon after he pushed on and took most of the rest of the North, forcing the Tiv people to convert and or move out of the lands. Many converted and many simply moved out of the conquered lands further south along the Niger River banks and mountainous terrain of the Plateau. Over the years various other Hausa and Hausa-Fulani rulers invaded these remaining Tiv lands in an effort to convert them and turn their lands into the extending Hausa-Fulani lands, though the Tiv over time fought courageously to keep that from happening. Not only did they deafened against the Hausa from the North but in time they were also forced to defend against the rapidly expanding Edo Empire of Benin in which sought to acquire lands on the northern banks of the Niger.

They succeeded for about a span of 8 years before the Tiv accepted the assistence of the Hausa and together they managed to push the Edo back across the Niger River. In accepting the help of the Hausa, the Tiv community were opened up to greater levels of persuasion from the Hausa to convert to Islam and many more did in little time after the victory.
Another interesting piece.

PoliticsRe: Why Did Obj Force Yar Adua On Us? by ono(m): 8:25pm On Jul 01, 2009
I have been reading entries on this board for a while. Chidichris stands out as one of the best contributors on the political board.

I think Chidichris and some other intelligent contributors have said all there is to answer the questions raised by the OP. Simple truth remains that OBJ forced this guy Yaradua on us. The possible reasons for his choice has been enumerated somewhere up there in some of the entries. Nothing much to add.

However, what's baffling is the inability of Yaradua himself to make an impact. At least he's an eductaed person. He should know when to call it quit and take charge. Maybe he's doing that, but I can't see it. Or is it me? I mean, one can at the least make ''something happen'' even when he/she  had been ''imposed'' on people. Our President's case is really a sorry one. Sometimes I wonder who really takes decisions at the top and the caliber of people who advice our president.

A recent case in point (to buttress the fact that our Presido lacks what it takes to rule this country, or is dancing to the tune played by some vested interests) is the siting of the School of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna. Touted as the biggest Petroleum School in Subsaharan Africa when completed, it's amazing that with the barrage of attacks in the Niger Delta, such a schoool will be sited in the North - far away from the area where the funds for building the school is ''mined''.

I think OBJ has really done us in this time.

Last night we received some good news from Terri McFaddin-Solomon who is good friends with Sandra Crouch. Three weeks ago Sandra and Andre’ spent some time with their close friend, Michael Jackson. Michael asked Andre` to play, “It Won’t Be Long And We’ll Be Leaving Here.” Michael then prayed with Sandra and Andre and accepted Christ into his heart. Now he’s singing in the heavenly choir.! Our hearts rejoice!

Now, this is scary. But why on earth did the FG go public with this? I expect they should have nipped this quietly. They have only succeeded in letting the depraved importers smuggle in the goods in via other means.

@blacksta,
That prodeco aerial view captured Warri a little bit more than the rest. Just look beyond the tastefully designed buildings - and you'd agree with me that there isn't any artillery or army formations anywhere in sight.

This is not to underplay the current crisis brewing in the area - but those are limited to the creeks and some villages.

In all, papabrowne has done a good job of posting these pics. Well done.

@Biina,
What in the world is your problemhuh??

Go and meet Akwaibom state government (and other state governments in the Niger Delta), ask to see the Commissioner for Finance and let him/her give you a breakdown of what they want to do/have done with their money!!! - If you can't do that, please stand down and stop asking questions that won't give any meaningful answers!

Do you know that the Delta State govt is currently building an airport in Asaba? Have you gone to Rivers State to see what Amaechi is doing to improve the living conditions of the people in the state, and in Port Harcourt in particular?
Do you know that Calabar is the tourism haven for Nigeria? - with Tinapa that the FG won't allow to fly due to some useless sentiments??

Bayelsa is undergoing some massive development. You may want to argue from now on end, but Bayelsa has developed past when it was created - we are happy about that.

Please, while you're searching for what ND governors are doing with their money, take some time out to see what Northern state governors are doing with their ''meagre'' take home as well. Do a good job of that, instead of boring everyone with this your stance on what the governors in the ND did with the money allocated to them - their own money in the first place.
