debosky:Those places and their plants readily brings to mind the inhuman treatment meted to us in the Niger Delta. Don't say I'm bringing ND issues into the matter now, for I will bring it up at the slightest opportunity. Why complete plants in far away Alaoji, Papalanto, Omotosho and Geregu, where you know it will take sometime to pipe gas to those places? Why not complete the Niger Delta power projects first before doing anything else in any other place? Completing the plants in the delta would have amounted to wielding a two-edge sword to achieve two things: Get un-employed ND youths working, thereby maintaining peace and ensuring oil production, and at thesame time, meeting your set objectives: Generating power. OBJ concentrated funds and resources at those plants for selfish reasons. The Afam Gas and Power plants would have been up and running by now. The plants meant to be built at Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross Rivers and Akwaibom were completely and deliberately starved of funds . Now, this said, it doesn't remove the fact that OBJ has indeed set the ball rolling. Yaradua should please take the project from where OBJ stopped. And he should make sure that the power projects meant for the Delta Region takes the highest priority, please. All others can come thereafter. |
It's amazing how you guys can still contribute ''meaningfully'' when I'm having the fun of my life reading pafun and dee02 entries! Una try. pafun and dee02, make una dey shoot dey go! We dey gbadun you people! |
I am Isoko (core) both parents. I'm from Isoko South LGA. My town: Igbide. And I thank the originator of this thread for coming up with this. For a minority tribe like us (the Isokos), I initially thought I will not see something like this coming on Nairaland. Wa do. Now, the annoying thing about the thread is the horde of non-Isokos doing all in their power to rubbish the good intention of the originator of the thread. Nwando, Ifyalways and other Igbotic people should please stay away from here if there isn't anything meaningful they can contribute. The Igbo thread is a huge one loaded with ''meaningful'' contributions from Igbos both at home and in the diaspora. Can we have some peace of mind and a sense of belonging with this one? Once again, I thank the good Isoko chap who came up with this thread in the first place. May the light of our forefathers continue to guide your paths, and may their blessings abide with us, their offspring where ever we're located on the face of the earth. |
Well uspry1, thanks for your advice. Read a bit about yourself in the link provided in your profile. So, how are your kids doing? I'm using my laptop now. I could browse anywhere, and because I re-installed my OS, I'm reaping the maximum benefit of the 2GB RAM. Data processing is pretty fast! Thanks and bye for now. |
Hmm, that's weird. Well, with machines you never can tell. Just out of curiousity, did you check your privacy settings and cleared your browser cache like I suggested earlier? Can you think of what you might have done differently that made it work? The reason I'm asking these questions is to try and determine what could have caused the problem and what rectified the problem in the event that happens again. I'd still run a deep scan on the machine if I were you and pay close attention to that launcher.exe file. Good luck. Peace!
I'm yet to figure out what happened really. I did clear all my browser cache. I also installed firefox (pretty cool browser, I must say). One thing I observed though was that my OS, Vista, kept ''receiving'' updates from the net. I had to allow the Windows Update application download and install quite a lot security scripts automatically from Microsoft website. I had to stop one - 195MB size security script (KBxxxxx). It was getting too much. I also did a lot of rescan with Norton. Any of the above could have resolved the problem but I really can't pinpoint which one it is. But I'm sure glad to have my iternet working properly again. |
Hey! I don't know what happened, but I've been able to get through to the aforementioned sites - including Wikipedia! Lord God be praised! Thank goodness. Whew! Thanks a lot guys. I'm very much grateful. |

Thanks guys. I'll try out all your steers and see if I can download from the links provided. I still can't get access to wikipedia. Na wa o. |
drag, Pls if you can help me out, I'll be very happy. Imagine how one can have access to the net and not be able to view wikipedia! |
I sure need some help here. All the computer gurus in the house, I hail o. I'll take time to explain my predicament. My note book description: Pavillion DV9420US: 240GB Disk space, 2GB Ram, FSB, wifi, Bluetooth functionality, Windows Vista OS, AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Tech, NVIDIA Graphics enabled processor. Broadcom Wireless. Problem: I'm having problems accessing some websites. For example, I can't get on to Wikipedia, banks sites, and I can't download from some websites. Is this an ISP related problem or my notebook has been infected with a virus? I had thesame problem getting on to Nairaland but somehow, after scanning with my Norton Antivirus software and re-installing my OS, I was able to get on to Nairaland. But my banks, wiki and other favourite sites cannot be accessed. Rather I either have another strange website showing up in their place - e.g. www. sedoparking.com or an outright blank page with an error message. What do I do to resolve this? |
Some of you here know how much I hate OBJ. I hate him with some kind of passion. I just don't like the man's style of leadership. But after reading through his submission on the power project initiated under him, and with my little knowledge of contract management, I need not go to a soothsayer to interprete the clear handwriting of the man. I had to give him credit for going this far to explain to the general public and those who care to listen and reason what he did to tackle the power problem in the country, while he was at the helm of affairs in this country. Even Debosky and Afam (fellow old timers and foes on nairaland) acknowledge this fact that much. They took their time to even explain to everyone here, what I ordinarily will not (and may be cannot) do. And Debosky even went as far as giving graphic details, so that those of you who are in JSS 2 can understand! What elso do you people want? If you want OBJ arrested and jailed, fine! but please substantiate this with facts before you look stupid to the whole world. I think I've read enough of this power thread. Me I don tire sef. Bros Oruwe, migwo, please take time read the man tory now. See whether the thing make sense first before you begin yab me. |
Like I said in my first entry, OBJ failed only in carrying the incoming administration along - or better still, taking time to intimate Yaradua on what he has done (and what's remaining to be done) so far with power generation in the country! This probably could be the result of his clamouring for a third term in office. Remember he spent the last months of his administration trying to get the NA to approve of his constitutional amendments plus third term runs. He couldn't have had anytime to convince a sick Yaradua on what he has done. A well informed Yaradua would not go to press shouting at the rooftop accusing the last administration of spending $16billion on power plants without any visible sign of infrastructure on ground. Conversely, it is possible OBJ did his bit to inform Yaradua, but the man was just too busy attending to other things, trying to settle down or attending to his terminal ailments that he just did not bother to listen to OBJ. Either way, I believe a communication breakdown of some sort led to the present logjam that we find oursleves in as regards power generation. I must state here also that the Nigeria press did not help matters at all. At the time they ought to do proper investigation into this matter, they were analysing the outbursts of the retired Lt. Gen TY Danjuma talking about one Ota OBJ and the one he met in the Army. Going forward, I once again posit, Yaradua should just continue where OBJ left off. Let the law takes it course as regards offending executive members of OBJ cabinet. |
Sometimes I just wonder why some people bother. |
Senator, That na becos free oil money dey flow reach ya hand for Abuja. Wait make them blow up all the oil pipelines first, and then we go back to cocoa and groundnut pyramid days, then the true test of this fragile union will be brought to lime light. |
You guys need to understand the dynamics of contracting, contracting processes and the different types of contracts in general for you to appreciate what OBJ is talking about. If you aren't well grounded in this area, just type contracts or contracting in google or wikipedia and learn! I don't have the time to expatiate on this. If you're interested, make some research and feed yourself with some facts before coming here to spew forth spermdrops! LOL!! I never really liked the way Nigeria was ran under OBJ. . . . . . . .a lot of things weren't transparent ''enough''. That OBJ is publishing all these at this time means there's some sort of heat on him from everywhere to speak out! Don't argue blindly. Make sure you know what you're talking about before talking. At best keep quiet and read what knowledgeable people are writing before talking thrash. Proper investigation should be carried out to verify any claim to anything ''projects'' by OBJ by the house committee members. Sanction offending contractors. Bring any official under OBJ found wanting to book, meanwhile, Yaradua should continue with the power projects and waste no time. What else do people spewing forth sperms want to see? |
Two things: 1) I think OBJ only carried a few members of his cabinet along while he was in office and supervising his power projects, to the extent that the rest were left in the dark! 2) What we're fed with from the dailies and the house of reps must be weighed vis-a-vis OBJ's claim. If indeed there are non-existent structures in most of the locations OBJ claimed they have initiated power projects, they should investigate this properly before going to press. I do not think anyone should doubt OBJ's competence because of his educational background. He has demonstrated courage and professionalism in this write up. However, all his claims here must be properly quality checked to ensure consistency. I urge President Yaradua to pls go to work on the power issue, while the house investigate what was done in the past. I must commend ex-president OBJ for taking pains to explain grey areas on this all important national matter. |
But, who cares. . . . . . .even if we come last. ![]() |
lol!! |
Let them go abroad. Is it not our doctors here who diagnosed Umoru's ailment wrongly the other day? They said he has one type of ailment, and were treating him for that until the man nearly died. They had to fly him abroad where he was properly diagnosed - albeit too late! damage is done already. You are right with the fact that our government failed in properly equipping State owned Hospitals to properly cater for people's health. But we know too that the rot in practically all Nigerian parastatals did not just start and stop at the top alone. Middle and lower level officers are also guilty of quite a lot of heinous crimes in this country. Give or take, I advise they go abroad for their medical check up - if they're ''serious'' about it. |
Uche2nna:The only authentic source of answer to your question lies in davidylan's Nigerian Political Dictionary. It is in there that you'd get the meaning of those words. I think he'll look it up for you if he's around and give you the meaning pronto! |
Hmnn. . . .I'm enjoying the discourse. |
I read something like that there are ''conflicting records'' about the volume of oil sales from the sixties. It's safe to conclude that conflicting records = no records. But this should not suprise you. It's the way of our past ''leaders''. |
dakmanzero:Hmnn, |
4 Him:That's right! LOL!! |
And what's wrong with the word ''war''? We've fought one in the past. It was nasty. It didn't achieve it's set objective. We can fight another one now, and right the wrongs of the last time. What do you think? |
''That'' looks like a turbaned baboon. |
Yaradua has taken the right decision on this matter. And he's done what a true leader would have done. I'm simply waiting for the outcome of their investigation, and if it confirms my fears about BA, then the aviation ministry should not hesitate to sanction the airline. |
My minimum number of years for ''appraising'' Yaradua is 2 years. After this, and if I do not see visible signs of change and progress, I will join the bandwagon of Yaradua bashers. . . . . . . and those who wants things done with lightning speed. Kobo, How low I can get? Well, I tell you I sometimes go down and dirty. . . . . to drive home a point. True Blue, Your write up looks very much like that of kemofash20. Never meant that as some kind of accusation or insult. Read my post very well, and tell me if I made any snide remarks about you. Even out here in the real world, people have severally approached me to say they saw me somewhere I have never been. We need not take these things to heart for too long. At the moment, Yaradua isn't paying my salary, neither am I getting anything from him. This plus the fact that I'm among the suffering Nigerians too. But I believe he will do well if given a chance. And if you fast guys feels he should be shown the way out of Aso villa for under performance (in just 1 year), I'm sure you know what to do to get that done quickly LOL!! ![]() |
Why do I have this feeling that sky blue = kemofash20. ![]() |
kemofash20:A case of putting the CART before the HORSE. |
owo:Hey bros, great to have u back. Wots up where you dey now? |
LOL!! at Kemofash20. Your thirst for speed is unparalelled o! But of course Yaradua is running with OBJ's reform. Need I remind you of one of OBJ's reform slogan - ''Transparency and The Rule of Law''. Yaradua has taken this slogan to a whole new level. Never mind that a lot of the heat is going OBJ's way because of the atrocities committed by him and other thieves during their time. With the renewed and refined transparency and rule of law under Yaradua, Grange, Ibori, Orji Kalu, Iyabo Obasanjo, OBJ himself and others who pilfered, stuffed their pockets and lined their accounts with ill gotten wealth are having sleepless nights. His style quite contrasts that crude ''rule of law and transparency'' under OBJ. |
