Loveaflame: 1.THE LEVITICAL, OR SACRED TITHE, Numbers 18:21-24
“21 And, behold, I HAVE GIVEN THE CHILDREN OF LEVI ALL THE TENTH IN ISRAEL FOR AN INHERITANCE, FOR THEIR SERVICE WHICH THEY SERVE, EVEN THE SERVICE OF THE TABERNACLE OF THE CONGREGATION. 22 Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die. 23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance. 24 BUT THE TITHES OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, WHICH THEY OFFER AS AN HEAVE OFFERING UNTO THE LORD, I HAVE GIVEN TO THE LEVITES TO INHERIT: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.” Numbers 18:21-24
I believe the above Scriptures are very clear. The first tithe mentioned in the Bible was traced back to Abraham (Gen. 14:18-20, I will talk more on this later), is the sacred tithe, given to the Levites and priests for their service to the temple and the congregation in the Old Testament. This is the tithe we continue to give under the priesthood of Melchizedek in the New Testament. It is the tithe consecrated to God and the furtherance of the Gospel and has, therefore, validity for all believers in Christ.
The Israelites were to give tithes unto the Levites as they have been chosen to serve God in the tabernacle. They were not given inheritance in the land. They lived on tithes. The Levites who served God in the Temple were in-turn to pay the tithe of tithes to the High Priest as well. Numbers 18:25-32
If Mr Freeze claimed the tithes were given to them once in three years, how were they to survive for the remaining years? His reasoning is illogical. You can also read Levitical 10:30, Nehemiah 13:12-13, 2 Chronicles 31:11-12 for better understanding of the kind of tithe. Please permit me to debunk ur humble but weak assertions linking Numbers 18:21-24 to Genesis 14:18-20 We both know that these were totally different platforms... Numbers 18:21-24 was coined from the mosaic law instructing the people of israel to offer their tithe to the levites since they had...wait for it...No inheritance....Please include verse 20 in ur submissions! However,Genesis 14:18-20 was part of an encounter where abraham went to war to rescue his cousin lot from the hands of the kings...and abraham after being serve food and water by the king Melchizedek gave him a tenth of his plunder... Viewing both scriptures....its obvious, they are totally contrasting features.... Totally different dispensations... ...while one was based on a requirement or commandment another was hinged merely on benevolence.... If however U are insistent,Please offer a law during the time of abaraham where he was required or commanded to pay or offer a tithe to king Melchizedek! Loveaflame: If Mr Freeze claimed the tithes were given to them once in three years, how were they to survive for the remaining years? His reasoning is illogical. You can also read Levitical 10:30, Nehemiah 13:12-13, 2 Chronicles 31:11-12 for better understanding of the kind of tithe. I believe Mr freeze was quite clearly quoting that scripture clearly unless U have a problem with that scripture... Its very simple Eat ur Tithe every year while not forgetting the levites And you shall not neglect the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you. V27 Hence, while eating of the tithe, offer some to the levite since they have no inheritance ...after the 3rd year, take Ur tithe and offer the to the levites, strangers etc At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled
Verse 28,29 There was always provision for the levites whether yearly or after 3years! Hope U comprehend! |

UbanmeUdie:

My father! My father!!
Ride on sir!
Tithing dates far back before the Mosaic law. It is a covenant practice born out of revelation and insight into the deep things of God.
Father Abraham gave tithes. Jacob gave his tithe.
And if we are Abraham's children and are now partakers of Abraham's blessings, then we must equally engage the deeds of Abraham (Hebrews 7).
Many are busy shouting, "we are now under grace, and not under the law, therefore the law should be done away with". Is this only regarding tithing?
I hope grace has now nullified the law that says thou shall not kill, thou shall not commit fornication, thou shall not lie, thou shall not worship any other god besides me, etc.
Many have become abusers of grace because they don't understand what grace is and what it has come to do.
Grace is the divine ability to do God's will without limitation where ordinarily, men would fail. Grace rides on the wheels of Mercy.
It is this mercy (divine pardon) that everyone enjoys today as a result of the blood that Jesus shed on Calvary. That is why, when many ought to have died instantly after committing a sin, they live on. Mercy suspends at outright almost instant consequence for sin and gives many chances for repentance.
The death of Jesus didn't abolish tithing because if it does, then it also abolished the sin of murder, idolatory and fornication.
His death only grants us divine pardon from the immediate consequences of sin.
I stand with Daddy G.O Interesting submissions.....however since U believe the death of jesus did not set aside the law,i do believe U do some of the following mosaic laws.... To release debts in the seventh year (Deut. 15:2) To offer up incense twice daily (Ex. 30:7) To eat the flesh of the Paschal lamb on it, with unleavened bread and bitter herbs (Num. 9:11) To observe the procedure of the burnt-offering (Lev. 1:3) To observe the procedure of the meal-offering (Lev. 2:1)
And to make it clearly especially if U wanna start cherry picking some of the mosaic laws U want to obey please hear what james has to say about such people James 2:10-11 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. 11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. Same with Paul... Galatians 5:3-4 3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. Father Abraham gave tithes. Jacob gave his tithe.
And if we are Abraham's children and are now partakers of Abraham's blessings, then we must equally engage the deeds of Abraham (Hebrews 7). Now this is really interesting..... Let me start of with Abraham acclaimed tithe and that of Jacob..... Since most tithers are insistent on this so called spiritual principle, let me ask..... Is there a laid down law in the entire Genesis that is commanding or instructing Abraham to "tithe"? Mind U Abraham was commanded by God to observe burnt offerings and circumcise his offspring....So where was the law commanding Abraham to tithe? Jacob made a vow....he was under no commandment to offer any thing to God..... There is a difference between a VOW and a COMMANDMENT! Many made vows in the bible for instance Jephthah Vow in Judges 11:30 - 31 30 And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord and said, “If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, 31 then whatever[a] comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites shall be the Lord's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.” If we are to take every VOW we see in the bible as an INSTRUCTION from GOD, why are Christians not obeying the VOW of Jephthah ? Secondly going by ur analogy that we must EQUALLY ENGAGE IN THE DEEDS OF ABRAHAM I guess U are implying that we should commit adultery and lay with our maid if our wife is barren right?I guess we should lie or do every right and wrong that was done by Abraham right? |

hardasan: Agreed. That law has been annulled.
But the same passage talks about a new law being in place
Heb ch 7 vs 12: For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law vs 18: For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. vs 28: For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore
Heb ch 8 vs 7: For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. vs 10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: vs 13: In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away
It goes on and on Via the highlighted verses, you can see that there is a new convenant and an old one. The word "convenant" and "law" were used interchangeably thoughout the highlighted verses. What are U saying? vs 12: For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law In other words,If there is a new priesthood, there is also a NEW LAW! How is that hard to understand for U to say this below Via the highlighted verses, you can see that there is a new convenant and an old one . This statement of urs makes absolutely no sense at all.... U quoted a verse which states explicitly about a change from an obsolete law to a new law according to Hebrews 7:12 Romans 13:8-10 agrees with the scripture 8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. |

hardasan: Hebrews 7:5-12King James Version (KJV)
5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
.............
11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
Hebrews 7:5-12Good News Translation (GNT)
5 And those descendants of Levi who are priests are commanded by the Law to collect one tenth from the people of Israel, that is, from their own people, even though they are also descendants of Abraham.
................
11 It was on the basis of the levitical priesthood that the Law was given to the people of Israel. Now, if the work of the levitical priests had been perfect, there would have been no need for a different kind of priest to appear, one who is in the priestly order of Melchizedek,[a] not of Aaron. 12 For when the priesthood is changed, there also has to be a change in the law.
This verse talks about the ammendment grace brings. It also talks about Jesus being the new High priest. Just as only the levitical priests could offer atonement and enter into the holy of holies, Christ is the only perfect sacrifice for our sins and no man can enter the holy of holies / God's presence except through Christ. The levitical priesthood is not perfect because being mere men, they die and they aren't greater than Abraham. Melchizedech was a mysterious priest who had neither beginning nor end of days according to the bible. Abraham received blessings from Melchizedech meaning Melchizedech is greater than Abraham. So likewise Christ arose from the dead and is now immortal and he is greater than Abraham.
Several changes to the law were made because of grace but the law in itself is not abolished.
Christ fulfilled the law by offering blood for our sins, by keeping the sabbath day holy even in his death and resurrection, by keeping Jewish feasts and laws etc. When the adulterous woman was brought to him, did he say: "that law is wrong" don't touch her ? No, he instead said " let him that has no sin cast the first stone". He warned her go and sin no more, same with a man he healed. He said, go and sin no more.
What is sin ? Sin is disobedience to the law. The bible says : " Shall we now continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid "
The law still stands but grace covers it so much that we almost don't feel it again.
Some laws can't be practiced / were amended I'll list them for you.
1. Slavery doesn't exist anymore 2. Nobody keeps cows and the likes at home anymore 3. Fashion has changed from what it used to be. 4. The structure of the church has changed. 5. The mode of worship has changed in ways like using the blood/name of Jesus for forgiveness of sins, healing, casting out demons, praying to God, etc 6. Ability to pray from anywhere not just from the temple. 7. Freedom to eat what was once forbidden. 8. Ability to stand in the presence of God 24/7. Before, menstruation defiled women and anyone who touches her, sex defiled, dirty clothes defiled, not being full blooded jew from your 3rd or 5th ancestral line (from your parents upwards) defiled, sicknesses defiled, deformity defiled, miscarriage defiled, wrong hairstyle defiled etc but grace and the blood of Jesus has changed all that. 9. Blood sacrifice is now forbidden so we don't keep the feast of the passover, but we keep the Lord's supper. 10. Compulsory observation of holy days and celibacy has been stopped.
If I remember any more, I'll add. All these laws were stopped by Jesus and (or) the apostles in the new testament.
So we don't practice them. Anything else that they didn't condemn is lawful and biblical.
If Jesus and the blood of Jesus has covered us from 80% of the law, do we sweep away the remaining 20% to meet their brothers that are covered ? The bible says God forbid. Any law not condemned still stands.
Tithing was never condemned by Jesus or the apostles. Let us not add or minus or misinterpret the bible.
I really felt moved to explain in detail to you. May the inspiration of the Almighty give you more understanding. I'll be happy to explain any other chapter to you. Just open a new thread and mention me there so we don't derail this one. U just complicated urself....that scripture said the law was abolished....but U are saying some laws were not abolished... 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 18 For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God . Remember the bible says the law and not some laws like U claim. |

I wonder how many accidents happen in England everyday yet I don't hear that England is perpetually in mourning over an accident. They would be mourning right about every other day.
There is a reason why England has that kind of system. Its because its people don't sit behind systems and smartphones just like I'm doing now and trade blames and tantrums and make stereotypical nags such as "Our mindset is slowly killing us"
Instead of that, they actually take steps like protest or go on strike....that type of thing.
So if you haven't done anything similar to that, then my friend you either read the posts and walk on by or add your own RIP and move on like the rest of the others are doing. ajiboye007: TITHE AND OFFERING
if u are not going to pay tithe ,you shouldn't also pay offering because both are of the same old law .
THEN FROM WHERE THE PASTOR AND PREACHER GET THEIR WAGES ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE ?.
1 Corinthians 9:14 In the same way, the Lord has prescribed that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
THEN PAUL WANT AHEAD TO QUOTE FROM THE OLD LAW ,IN WHICH MANY OF YOU ARE QUICK TO QUOTE IN OTHER ATTACKED PASTOR WHO COLLECTS TITHE . PAUL MAKE HIS POINT THAT THE MINISTER OF GOSPEL SHOULD BE PAID FOR THEIR WAGES.
Deuteronomy 25:4 "You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing.
1 Corinthians 9:9-11 For it is written in the Law of Moses: "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." Is it about oxen that God is concerned? 10 Does he not certainly speak for our sake? It was written v for our sake, because wthe plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of sharing in the crop. 11 x If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things
1 timothy 5:17-19 17 Elders who lead effectively are worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his wages.” 19 Do not entertain an accusation against an elder, except on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
THAN WHY WE SHOULDN'T ACCUSE PAUL OF CONSISTENCY ?.WHILE YOU PEOPLE ARE SO GOOD QUOTING PAUL THAT CHRIST IS THE END OF LAW ? BUT NOT SO WHEN ITS TIME TO PAY THEIR WAGES USING THE SAME OLD LAW CHRIST HAVE END.
DADDY FREEZE OR WHAT IS HE CALLED, REALLY SEEKING WROTH ON HIMSELF .
ITS A SERIOUS MATTER . Do U know that Paul went to the temple to preach to the romans? Do U know that Paul used the law of moses to preach about Christ? Why did Paul go all mosaic law abiding in the book of Romans but condemned the people of Galatia for abiding by the law of moses? Study these scriptures carefully 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 |
