Environer:
We all know president Jonathan supported Nollywood immensely, but Nollywood is a Nigerian brand, not a southern Nigerian brand. Now it looks like it's time for Kannywood (northern Nigerian brand) as the northern actors paid a solidarity visit to president-elect Buhari. The soon to be president also promised to stop piracy in Kannywood, not on Nollywood.

According to Premuim Times,Mr. Buhari made this known during a courtesy visit by the Arewa Film Makers Association in his home at Daura, Katsina, Tuesday.Mr. Buhari also thanked Kannywood for its contribution to his presidential campaign.

“I appreciate all that you have done; the beautiful campaign songs, the video jingles and the drama awareness on our party’s manifestos. They were all beautiful and I thank you.”

So what happens to Nollywood, what happens even to Yoruwood which is also APC?
Nepotism and tribalism is the bane of inclusive governance in Nigeria.

Buhari can support Daura-wood and ignore Nigeria's Nollywood. Na him sabi.

Then we shall frustrate all avenues they use in transferring out our money from Nigeria into South Africa before we take over the company. Afterall, it is our money that we are using to buy the SIM cards.

PoliticsRe: The "Backwardness" Of Nigeria After Hosting FESTAC 77, Myth Or Reality? by OreMI22: 2:55pm On Apr 19, 2015
OrlandoOwoh:
It's no longer unusual for some pastors and christians to be heard saying Nigeria's hosting the Festival of Arts and Culture, FESTAC in 1977 marked the beginning of hardship for the country.

The festival saw masquerades, artistes, spiritual diviners, etc converging and using the mystical power in a competition in the National Theatre at Iganmu in Lagos.

How true is this?
Apart from squandering billions of dollars which could have been used to build 40 or 50 Kainji dams for electricity generation in the unnecessary celebration, FESTAC surely brought some spiritual curse to Nigeria. It is part of our legacy of waste and missed opportunity of making Nigeria a rich and prosperous country.

I don't consider cities like PHC and Ibadan big considering the nature of their buildings.

Port Harcourt is littered with bungalows, you rarely see high rise residential layouts with high concentration of blocks of flat like you can see in most SE cities. If you visit places like Nkpor, Awada, Obosi, Woliwo and Fegge you will know why Onitsha is yet to met Awka and Nnewi.

Buildings in Cities in Igboland are built vertically to save land and increase economic potential while others waste lands with bungalows and face-me-i-face-you buildings.

Below is a glance of Awada layout Onitsha look like
I love how we save land in the SE by building upwards. My only concern is that we have little consideration for the cars those tenant would definitely have. Cairo Egypt houses more than 50% of Egypt's population and they did it by building exactly these types of buildings in Onitsha. Beirut, Lebanon is another good example of a city filled with 4-5 storey buildings. But, they always make sure the size of plot is bigger to accommodate the needs of 10 to 15 families living in each building. They planned the layouts better to accommodate cars and other requirements for space. Our government abandoned the planning to landlords and traders who have little land surveying skills.
CultureRe: Lets Discuss The Possibility Of An Igbo Language Section by OreMI22: 1:39pm On Apr 19, 2015

From what I can see Nairaland already has sections which provide spaces for community, such as the Muslim section, which they use to effect projects that actually touch lives. Looking outside Nairaland, other online forums such as Reddit embrace the idea of forming online communities. Going by these two things, that such an online community already exists on Nairaland, and that online communities are very functional and positive concepts, I hope we can form an Igbo or Igbo Language section on Nairaland.

Igbo Kwenu ! Kwenu Kwezo Nu !

I have mentioned all of you so that we can discuss as a community to see if we agree that having an Igbo Language section is desirable, and if so, decide on the steps we can take to actualize it. It's worth noting that I painstakingly got your monikers from threads already organized as communities, namely:

Enugu, The Pride Of The East by spyder880
https://www.nairaland.com/979128/enugu-pride-east

Order of the thread
-We need volunteers who will argue in favor and those who will argue against an Igbo Language section
-After this introductory post a poll will be set up, which can be used to judge those who are for and those who are against an Igbo language section.
-Another post immediately after that will be left vacant where our decisions and steps to take will be listed, if we agree to move forward with advocating for an Igbo Language section. Also it will be used to indicate when those arguing in favor or against an Igbo language section will be making their submissions.
-If you feel this is a bad idea please kindly state so if you want to, or otherwise hold your peace. I advice that trollers should simply be ignored.
-If you feel this is a good Idea and want to put down steps on how to actualize it, or ideas for how an Igbo language section would be run, please title your suggestion in emboldened letters.
-Finally I am calling on volunteers who will submit arguments in favor of an Igbo Language section, and also on volunteers who will submit arguments opposing the idea.

Till we get volunteers, which hopefully we will have, I advise us all to visit this link: http://www.iiste.org/Journals/index.php/DCS/article/view/2934 , download the article by Ani Kelechi Johnmary and have a read.

I also leave us with an excerpt:

"Igbo people are increasingly engaging in the progressive race towards cultural marginalization and geometric linguistic endangerment. This study is centred on cultural marginalization theory of language. “This frequently happens when indigenous populations, in order to achieve a higher social status, adopt the cultural and linguistic traits of a people who have come to dominate them through colonisation, conquest, or invasion. This is the most common cause of language endangerment” (Austin and Sallabank, 2011). When the people gradually neglect and refuse to promote official and unofficial communication dynamics in their language, consciously or unconsciously, they are culturally marginalizing their language. This is the situation found across the length and breath of the Igbo nation. Unfortunately, some Igbo people have paid with their breath for neglecting their language. Anyaegbuna (2012:30) showed that “following the wanton repetitive killings of Ndigbo in Northern Nigeria, some aggrieved Igbo youths made reprisal attacks on Northerners at Nkpor junction and some other areas. They mounted roadblocks and screened vehicles for Northerners. The basis of screening was the ability to understand and speak Igbo. It was a disaster that a few Igbo youths were killed needlessly, because they either did not understand or could not speak Igbo fluently; they were mistaken for Northerners seeking camouflage”. What a bad scenario that calls for Igbo revival. The Igbo language revival scholars must therefore arise in the “race against time” (Krauss, 2007) towards the revival of our language. Revising of Igbo “language and culture shift” (Fishman, 1991) needs patriotic attention and urgency. This could be attained through the cultural revival of the Igbo ethno linguistic vitality (Ehala, 2009), if all and sundry within the Igbo nation and beyond can gradually and progressively reduce their high level of social violence against the language."

Finally, i'd like to give an example of a language, Cornish, which has been revived and has gone from labeled as extinct to being officially recognized as a minority language in the UK. So it's possible to revive a language and to bring it to prominence. I believe that as a people we can bring Igbo language to prominence, and I believe it starts with little things like an Igbo language section. This is important to me because I can't speak enough Igbo to sustain a one minute discussion because of the reasons mentioned in Ani Kelechi's article and I consider this a shame. I plan to learn in the East by serving in the NYSC there but before then a thriving Igbo community online seems like a good place to start.
An Igbo language section is not only desirable but imperative. We should have it.
Google translate have been improving their Igbo translation skill , it will be a useful tool for those willing to learn Igbo language.

We are not going to break our SIM card, we will simply chase out South african citizens from MTN,DSTV and the banks and simply run the companies and keep the profit here in Nigeria.
That is exactly what they did to other Africans, chased them away and then took over their business to loot it. They didn't do any boycott.

Chime Administration did well in aggressively expanding the city.

I have been trying to compare Enugu and and Ph in terms of size, I can't seem to place it which one is bigger. I know Ph is has more population and dense, and PH is also economical more advanced than Enugu but in terms of city size, I am finding it difficult to place which is bigger. Initially I have a firm conclusion that PH is bigger but as I get to know PH layout better i tended to revisit that comparison. Before you conclude, you should know that a city becomes smaller in your head once you know every nook and cranny. Same way the world has become smaller through IT. Ph layout is totally different from that of Enugu.
Enugu tend to appear small because I know every part of it. The city is bigger now, if the current aggressive approach is maintained in centenary city, then Enugu-Ph highway will be completely engulfed before Ifeanyi finish his first tenure. Enugu-onitsha highway is already engulfed.

Spyder, you amaze me with the way you take pictures...am really curious about how you took that O'conor picture, was it by drone or helicopter or from stadium?
Measuring both cities exactly at the same altitude and the most far flung outskirts, PH is just slightly bigger than Enugu. 15.57Km versus 15.17Km at their biggest diameter.

See google map satellite measurement.

mashin:
I read allegations without scientific evidence about under-age voters in the north and i was forced to ask these questions
1. In a country where majority of the female rural dwellers give birth at home because of lack of finance for hospital bills, without proper documentation of their children birth days how can you determine someone is under-age
2. If magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan can not tell the real age of footballers where 25 year old still plays under 20 how can you determine someone is under-age? Conclusion: its better the govt. Should set up a data base to register all children birth days or stop this foul cry of under-age voters, in this global world of scientific erra we base argument on scientific evidence and Nigeria is not left out.
It is a shame that children are pressed to vote for the selfish interest of Kano, Katsina and Kaduna politicians. JUST SHAMEFUL!
