Great move by dangote, I used to run a haulage firm and every day I wished i had graduates as drivers. If i could afford it i would have gotten them. And for all you negative peope saying there is something wrong with being a truck driver you need to travel abroad. I know a guy that makes $85,000 a year driving a truck and he has an Msc.

PoliticsRe: GEJ’s Adviser To Stand Surety For Suspected Subsidy Fraudster by oseo1(m): 3:03am On Aug 03, 2012
there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a surety for someone. First of all our legal system says you are innocent until proven guilty. secondly even if he is a thief, her standing surety for him only means she is responsible if he flees or does not show up to court during his trial. Why do we make big deals of nothing?

If your father is accused of stealing will you disown him because he was accused? I swear a lot of you are fake as hell and I'm glad that I do not have you as friends. I can only imagine how fast you would disown and drop me if I was accused of a crime.

If you had watched the subsidy probe on tv you would have seen that some of these people are actually innocent, they answered their questions and brought evidence to back their claims. most of the people you see now are the ones that didnt pay bribes thats why you are hearing their names now.

I live in VGC and my power has improved drastically, in the last 2 weeks i would say i have had light for more than 90% of the time. the few times they have taken light it has come back either withing minutes or at most an hour.

It has improved so much that although we run a food business and require light for long period, we used to spend N4500 on diesel daily but in the last month combined we have not spent up to N15,000 combined. There was only a period of about 3/4 days 2 weeks ago when it was bad.

i want to ask a quick quetion, how many of you fly air france?

If you answered that you do then you should have no problem flying dana air. Air france is the second deadliest airine in the world yet no one seems to have an issue with them. Plane crashes will happen as long as planes are flying, its one of the risks of travel. we have to be realistic, we cannot close every airline who has a mishap down. what needs to happen is a review of their safety, maintenance and training records. and see what could have been done to prevent this from happening and change it with that airline and others as well.

PoliticsRe: First Ladies' Summit: 200 Cars Claim Denied By Abati by oseo1(m): 3:14pm On Jul 26, 2012
I do not understand why we are still commenting on this topic, we all knew yesterday that we did not have the complete story so why are we doubting the authenticity of what abati said. Coshcharis has done it several times before and they will do it again. Its a good business practice because for their donations they get tax breaks and import duty waivers.
PoliticsRe: First Ladies Summit: 200 Cars Ordered By FG (BMW X3, X5, Jaguar & Other Exotics) by oseo1(m): 1:12pm On Jul 25, 2012
cheddarking: Surely if it's a meeting of African 1st ladies, then Nigeria has provide suitable transportation befitting their rank.

So I can understand the Government's position.

I do believe though, that the Government could have dealt directly with BMW and cut out the middleman and as such pay less...unless the Government is leasing the cars from Coscharis for a short period
Just a note Coscharis is the BMW/Jaguar representative in Nigeria so they will have the best prices locally.

Aside from that the story states that they could not confirm whether the vehicles were leased or bought so we should hold off on the insults/curses. Also the article could have been better written for example it says "The cars comprise 80 units of BMW X3 and X5 series with a market value of N13.5 million each, while the remaining 120 are exotic models of Honda, Jaguar and others" that price is for the X5 not the X3. its sensationalism at its best, designed to get reactions from you and I. As much as i support innoson motors their suvs are crap and are not befitting of first ladies. If it is a lease coscharis would provide insurance and drivers for the cars so it is not a bad deal at all. I know companies that do the exact same thing when they have expats/big wigs coming in town to visit.

coming from the states its not strange to see parking fees in a shopping mall parking lot, especially in a busy area. What vendors can do is give customers that make purchases vouchers so they can either get out free or take money off their purchases.

lookmangiw: There is nothing that fashola will do for you that will satisfy you. you were born a critic and a pessimist and you will surely die as one. but one surprising thing is that people like you are the one that is singing song of praises and sycophancy to the slowpoke at the helms of affair at the federal level.
actually you are mistaken i give credit where it is due, like i said what good is traffic information when i still have to sit in the same traffic because there is no alternate route? We are paying a premium for what you thing is improvement/progress. Like is mentioned earlier maybe in your area there is progress but in mine there is none. We are paying tolls on a road that is substandard at best. And when we chose to protest he used his thugs and police to suppress our protests. A stay of action was filed in a Lagos court and yet we still pay tolls. Look at the quality of the state schools, and see if there is any progress. I had the opportunity of visiting a few and they are a shame. Yes there may be growth in the private sector but that is not as a result of the state government. the public infrastructure is suffering, schools, hospitals, roads, everything.

You know there is a problem when the commissioner of police calls to say that robberies and kidnappings are up so you should not go out at night. If you know these crimes are up in an area is it not your job to make sure the rate drops?
PoliticsRe: Fashola Launches Lagos Traffic Fm 96.1 by oseo1(m): 3:15pm On May 30, 2012
i would like to ask all those who say Lagos is moving, to list the good things that governor fash has done.
if you live in the lekki axis of Lagos i doubt that you will see any improvement. light is bad, they are charging an arm and both legs for "reconstructing/resurfacing" an already existing road armed robbery and kidnappings are up. schools are getting wore by the day.businesses are packing up daily and moving out of Lagos because of the high running cost.

Yes the radio stationis a good initiative, but if you tell me there is traffic on lekki road how does that help me? what happened to the plans for a coastal highway which was supposed to be the toll road?

Don't be fooled Fashola is trying but he has not even started addressing the major issues, he does little inconsequential things that seem big but mean nothing.Typical example is the road repairs going on all over lagos, they fix the roads but do such a poor job that the roads are just as bad or worse than they were in under 3 months, its a scheme to chop money. the lagos state government has been running it for decades. I remember when i was a little younger we lived on reeve road in ikoyi and we noticed that they would fix the road in january every year but by february you would not even think they had done any work because of how bad the road would be. My mother asked a friend who was in the council office why they dont just take time and fix it well once and the lady responded "if we fix it well how will we recover from the christmas period and all its expenses"
PoliticsRe: NNPC Spends ₦1.35bn Annually On 36 Employees by oseo1(m): 3:27am On May 08, 2012
Its funny civil servants used to be amongst the better paid Nigerians, unfortunately while the private sector was reviewing salaries upwards to keep up with inflation and such things government stayed put, not only did the review salaries right, the benefits that public servants used to get all disappeared. Growing up i lived in the best neighborhoods, went to the best schools, hospitals and had a very good life. Not because my father was a thief but because he was a civil servant.fast forward to 2012 someone in the same position my dad was in 30 years ago will get an official house but it will be so run down that you are better off renting somewhere, your kids can't go to public schools because they won't have good teachers that's if they have teachers at all. They can't go to public hospitals because they are in deplorable condition. And you expect these people to not get paid well yet expect them to not steal or actually care about their work?
PoliticsRe: NNPC Spends ₦1.35bn Annually On 36 Employees by oseo1(m): 10:19pm On May 07, 2012
37m for the directors of nnpc is actually not too much, considering that my friend who has less than 5 years experience got offered 17m annually by total. Top staff earn about 50-60m annually. You expect to get competent staff yet you don't want to pay them. How do you expect the country to ever move forward when you are not willing to invest in the people that will make decisions on your behalf?
PoliticsRe: What I Told Mend Commander Before Agip Bombing – Anthony, Ndlf Spokesman by oseo1(m): 9:47am On Feb 27, 2012
the agitators accepted the amnesty deal because they were made promises by the government (and their leaders were paid), which have most been unfulfilled. If you ever go to the Niger-Delta you will see what they are fighting for. How can a fisherman feed his family when the waters dont have any living things in them anymore? Oil companies have polluted the lands of the niger delta and killed their sources of income. I went to a village once where there are kids who have not seen a regular night in their lives because of gas flaring. The schools are crap, they have no sources of income and you expect them to just sit back and watch?

The government bigwigs sat in heir abuja offices and divided the peoples land and oil, they were giving girlfriends oilblocks while the true owners of the land suffer. Hopefully peace will prevail but government and the oil companies need to do more for the people.

BusinessRe: CAC To Register Businesses In 48 Hours - Aganga by oseo1(m): 1:20am On Feb 07, 2012
lets get our facts together. it does NOT cos $600 to register a limited liability company in Nigeria, You probably just overpaid your lawyer or whoever did it for you. Seconly if it takes you 3 months the fault is not from the government its from whoever you hired to register it for you. The longest I have ever heard of was 3 weeks.

I know companies which were registered and operational within 2 weeks. and im talking about companies that are running multimillion Naira outfits. Its all about the lawyers/agents you use. If you use someone reputable it should not take you more than 3 weeks.

If you want the process to be fast what you should do is provide a good number of alternate names when they do the search so you can avoid time wasted on back and forth.
PoliticsRe: KPMG Report That FG And NNPC Hid From Nigerians by oseo1(m): 12:57pm On Jan 12, 2012
You can't please people sha, the subsidy rose by over a trillion, if GEJ was eating of that money do u really think he would fight so hard to remove it? Lets start thinking critically people don;t just accept what people say as the truth actually think if it makes sense before you accept it.

Whether the money is being stolen or not is not the issue here, the issue should be that there is an opportunity for money to be stolen through there. And that is why they are removing the subsidy. You can say we should prosecute the criminals but in reality the vast majority of Nigerians are criminals so you will just be running a never ending cycle of replacing personnel and them stealing. what we need to do is change ourselves before we try to change government because we ARE the government.

You may say you are not corrupt but how many of us take bribes, kick backs and accept shady deals, and even if you are not doing it your fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters probably are and what have we done about them? absolutely nothing. instead we sit back and enjoy their spoils. It starts with our children, we employ "lesson teachers" who do their homework for them, and then they go through life cutting corners and thinking that's its ok because they got taught that at an early age.

Lets stop fighting the wrong battles, lets start at the root of the problem and face reality.
PoliticsRe: Fuel Subsidy And Exchange Rate by oseo1(m): 1:02pm On Jan 04, 2012
The diesel prices haven't gone done for one simple reason there is no private sector involvement in the refining process, yes diesel has not been subsidised for a while but the whole industry needed to be deregulated and turned into a pseudo-free market before investors could come in. The same refineries produce petrol, diesel and all oil derived fuels. The deregulation of diesel back then was to tackle shortages caused by smugglers and other factors and it worked cos I can't even remember the last diesel shortage.

The past contractors will probably never be prosecuted because half of them are either still in government or dead and the other half a phony companies floated by the bigwigs of our society which cannot be traced.

Why I say we are to blame for the profiteering that's going on is because it is fellow citizens like you and I that allow our businesses and staff to be criminals. It goes deeper than corruption. Take for example kidnappers, they all have families, how many of their mothers ask them where they are getting money from? If your community ostracised you for being a criminal and branded you an outcast it would be less appealing to a child on the street. But in reality its the reverse, you see our people hailing and praising people who are ripping others off, doing 419, and the likes. There is no longer a sense on social responsibility or community responsibility when it comes to that. It even stretches into religion. We don't care where the money comes from anymore.

Don't get me wrong, in no way am I saying they shouldn't be punished, what I am saying though is that corruption is a long fight, and its best started by plugging the loopholes that the criminals can exploit. Also you cannot blame the current government for the sins of their predecessors, if they don't use the money judiciously then by all means cremate them. But give them a fair chance.
PoliticsRe: The Fuel Subsidy Removal Is Not A Bad Thing! by oseo1(m): 9:24am On Jan 04, 2012
lol no vex, I lived in your country for a while so I studied their systems the same way I do those in Naija, but in reality the president, senators and all elected officials don't get pensions here, the "civil servants do" ie low level staff up to permanent secretaries. but ministers and special assistants don't because they are not employed by the nigerian civil service, they are appointed by the president.
PoliticsRe: The Fuel Subsidy Removal Is Not A Bad Thing! by oseo1(m): 8:51am On Jan 04, 2012
kingoflag:
Not true! It is actually the same thing in Nigeria (Pension/Bills of EX-Presidents), maybe worse, because e.g Police Escorts can be made made available for even the lowest ranked Govt officials--if they can pull the right strings or pay the right fees! In fact, in Nigeria, you can buy the Villa of the Speaker of The House if your embezzled cash is right. Attempt something like that out here, and you will definitely look forward to a long prison stretch!

Such a shame you don't even know how your own country operates, but you automatically try to become an expert on another's country's system.
actually it is you who doesn't know your country, if you go by the pensions office you will see the stress that they go through to get the peanuts that they are entitled to. And to the best of my knowledge it does not apply to elected officials, its based on time in service. Pensioneers die almost every day in that office. If you need to see for yourself go by the pensions office at the end of awolowo road in Ikoyi just past military hospital. And in reality seeing as the government does not pay for the purchase of the houses how is it the same thing? The US paid $460,000 in rent for Bill clinton in 2010, have you ever heard of our government paying any bill for any past president?
PoliticsRe: The Fuel Subsidy Removal Is Not A Bad Thing! by oseo1(m): 3:54am On Jan 04, 2012
The removal of the subsidy is not a bad thing, its something that needed to be done. I am all for reducing the salaries of our senators and legislator but in reality we do not have the social structure to do that. I will give you an example, in the US ex presidents get paid about 72% of the current presidents salary, and the do not pay any bills, the literally have all their bills up to their cell phone bills paid until they die. In Nigeria when you leave office you are on your own. Also on the feeding budget, its not just their families they are feeding, if you run a household like mine where you have guest around the clock you will understand that it can be pretty costly, im not sure if state dinners and the likes are included on that bill but if they are then its not totally outrageous its high but not as high as you think. But i digress,

The subsidy removal opens doors to the private sector to invest in private refineries, with the subsidy prices were completely regulated by the government there by discouraging private investment. Now if i can build my refinery and sell my product for N10 its my business. there have been willing investors for years/decades but because the sector wasn't deregulated they couldn't come in. That alone is a benefit of the subsidy removal.

I know its been said several times but its the truth, right here ad now it will be tough for many people but in the not so distant future we will all reap the benefits of the subsidy removal.
PoliticsRe: Fuel Subsidy And Exchange Rate by oseo1(m): 3:17am On Jan 04, 2012
Like any other industry competition will favor the consumers, yes prices are high now but when the private sector takes over the refining process watch those prices crash. its the same way when GSM came to Nigeria we were paying 30-40,000 for a sim car now the are almost free. The removal of the subsidy and the deregulation of the sector opens the door for the private sector to build refineries. thereby creating jobs and also stimulating healthy competition. Another thing many people do not know is that our refineries are currently being repaired by the people who built them not some random contractors (politicians and their cronies).

I have said it for over 2 years that government will have to stop subsidizing our fuel for us to move forward as a nation. Every president we have had since IBB knew it but didnt want to face the backlash that would come as a result of it. Also if it had been done when our refineries were working there wouldnt have really been a big price hike. We need to challenge our fellow nigerians to stop be more honest, the vast majority of the transporters who have increased their fares run on diesel (which has not been subsidized for a few years now) even a lot of danfos run on diesel but they will never tell you that. if the fare from ajah to cms was 150 per passenger there is absolutely no reason for it to double, because not all of your fare goes towards petrol, what they are doing is a pure case of profiteering and its only going on because we are letting it. Tomatoes, rice and wheat coming from the north to the south are carried on trailers and trucks running on diesel so their cost hasnt really gone up either. yes i agree that the cost to the individual market women has gone up but not by as much as you would imagine.

if you are wondering why im talking so much about transportation costs its because its my industry, i own a few danfos, short trucks and trailers.
