naptu2: The british invaded Benin in 1897, deposed the oba and exiled him to Calabar. The oba's son, Prince Aiguobasinwin Ovonramwen moved to his aunt's house and began farming in order to earn a living. This he did until the british consul eventually called him back to Benin.
In the meantime, the british consul ruled Benin in conjunction with Chief Agho Ogbedeoyo (the Obaseki of Benin).
Oba Ovonramwen died in 1914 and a succession crisis between Chief Agho Ogbedeoyo and Prince Aiguobasinwin Ovonramwen ensued. It seemed that Chief Ogbedeoyo would be crowned as the new oba, but strong evidence by some Benin chiefs eventually made the british consul rule in favour of Prince Aiguibasinwin. The british consul thus approved the appointment of Prince Aiguobasinwin Ovonramwen as the new Oba of Benin (Oba Eweka II) and that was how the practice of the consul (or governor) approving the appointment of the Oba began. That was slightly different in that Ovonramwen was overthrown by an act of war, and there were many casualties on both sides. After he was removed Benin then became part of the British empire so they chose the king. Since then it has returned to normal. And the first son of the Oba ascends after his fathers death. |

phemmyutd: Most of we Nigerian youth lack knowledge of the constitution. So these these Edo youth do not know that the Governor has the right to appoint a king? This is not Yoruba land, the Oba of Benin is not appointed by the government, there have been Obas since before the constitution was drafted. This statement implies that is the governor does not like an Oba or crown prince he can remove him and that is as false as can be. I dare Oshiomole or even Buhari to try an oust the Oba of Benin, they may succeed in removing him but they will not live to enjoy it. |

DropShot: That's natural occurrence which cannot be prevented. Not like deliberately enriching anyone.
If anything, removing subsidy actually seeks to stop enriching the marketers. If well policed and run properly the subsidy will not enrich anyone more than the deregulation will, because their profit margins will remain the same. But I maintain that people are being enriched more now. The landing cost of PMS is somewhere between 110 and 120 how th did they come up with 145 as their magic number? The profit margins have drastically increased since they started selling at 145. And please not that the profit is not going to the stations its going to those same marketers that we are allegedly fighting against. Before their profit was in the N3-5 range per liter now it's close to N20 The land cost of diesel is higher than PMS but yet diesel is sold for cheaper. |

DropShot: Enrich which people by removing subsidy?
Sorry to say, but your thinking is upside down. A quick example of h its enriching certainly people, they just announce one day tha , new price would would effect. Mind you t marketers already collected product that was subsidised, so I got PMS at say N84 and expected to sell at 87 but now I'm selling at 145, that's a 61 naira profit. Even if I only sold 33,000 liters that's still over 2million extra. Whilst I recognize that it was a one time profit its still fantastic, and also note that whenever the price is reduced that they will insist o finishing their products before reducing the pump price. |

Nigerians will always have the urge to watch international movies. Perhaps if only Nollywood movies are displayed in the cinemas, Nigerians will one day get tired and forced to go online to pay international platforms just to watch a movie.
Instead of giving out our money to the internationals, i think it is far more better it is spent here. It all narrows down to the Entrepreneurial Mindset. For those in support of the policy please note that it is crippling many businesses. Before you ban something the local economy should ha capacity to produce something of a similar standard. When we are barely making cars you go and stop approving for example for aeroplanes I know at least 15 people employed by a private jet leasing company, how are they supposed to grow that business? I personally am affected by this silly policy, I import things for people. I met a guy who imports toiletries and he has be crying that they have ruined his business as well. |

I own an element and have had it a few years, it is a much stronger car than the KIA soul and much more spacious. there are pros and construction for both vehicles. The KIA soul seems like a good option in this case seeing as you can verify its history. I do generally shy away from Nigerian used cars. Our roads and driving conditions are brutal on cars, talk less of our mechanics. If the 07 element is very clean a drives nice it would b my personal choice but then again I may have biased. |

I studied mathematics and physics, in an ideal world a physicist can work in almost any industry however I'd say look into oil and gas, telecoms, commercial banking and investment banking. If you plan to go to grad school then decide what you want to do as a career and pick a program that will help you in that area.
Medical physics is great, it is the future of cancer treatment, there are tons of opportunities in that area, however to be honest I don't know of how advanced we are in nigeria in that area (Radiotherapy) I've actually never heard of it here. So you might be limiting yourself to imaging (mris, ultrasounds and things like that) if you plan to work here in naija.
I would recommend nuclear physics if you plan to go abroad to study, there is a lot of funding out there plus the Nigerian government is allegedly considering a nuclear power plant, plus the nuclear regulatory authority is almost always looking for qualified staff. |

Politics › Re: EFCC Seizes 13 Cars From Ex-Osopadec Boss Over N530m Fraud by oseo1(m): 12:42pm On Aug 12, 2015 |
Axeurdaddy: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has evacuated all 13 exotic vehicles seized from the former Head, Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, Mr. Debo Ajimuda, and kept at the premises of the state Police Command, Alagbaka, Akure.
It will be recalled that multi-million naira vehicles were seized by the anti-graft agency in March, 2012 and put in the custody of the State Police Command sequel to the allegation of N540m fraud levelled against the former OSOPADEC boss.
Ajimuda, who was arrested immediately after the seizure of his property by the EFCC, was later arraigned on June 2012 at the Akure Federal High Court with four other accused persons on a 13-count charge but they were later released on bail.
A source at the police command told our correspondent on Monday that the EFCC officials came to the command last week, with a letter from the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja to remove all the vehicles from the command
Another source explained that the evacuation of the vehicles might not be unconnected with the pending case of the alleged N540m fraud levelled against the former OSOPADEC boss at the High Court.
Some of the exotic cars evacuated include a Toyota Tundra jeep with a registration number ABUJA FY 195 ABC; a Benz 4matic 2011 model, with registration number LAGOS DK 777 FST; Toyota Corolla with registration number ABUJA HJ 805 ABC; a Toyota Solara, ABUJA EU 777 ABJ; and a Toyota Venza; Benz 500, registration number DK 777FST; and G.Wagon Benz.
In his reaction to the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo, confirmed the released of the vehicles in their custody to the EFCC, saying it was released following the request of the anti-graft agency.
The PPRO explained, “We are not in charge of the matter, the vehicles were just kept in our custody for safety The EFCC brought a letter that we should release the vehicles they kept in our custody to them, and we did.”
Ogodo however denied having information about the purpose of the evacuation of the vehicles. He said, “I don’t know why they evacuated the cars. It is the EFCC that can explain that. “
