DemMannaScam: No be only seal, na walrus. Meanwhile, Ukraine lost Crimea 7 years ago. "Almighty" SCAMerica did nothing. Russia controls parts of eastern ukraine, "almighty" usa pretends like it's nothing.
Continue deluding urself with an imaginary seal...
With their might in NATO, they could not defeat the ragtags in Afghanistan.
With all their support to headchoppers in Syria, Russia has successfully driven most of these Jihadist to Idlib.
Why is NATO, a seemingly "defensive alliance" moving its military infrastructure i.e. missile systems, military bases, aircraft towards Russian borders?
Despite promises not to move an inch beyond the states already in NATO as at 1991 (after the collapse of the USSR), they reneged and absorbed Poland, the Baltics, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, the Balkans and now inching for Ukraine and Georgia. What did they expect the Russians to do?
Funny that the United States which is over a 1,000 miles away from Europe is the one beating the drums of confrontation knowing that the spillover of any conflict will not impact their land except if there is a nuclear exchange
I pity the Europeans, dem no get sense.
Mach7, I like your comment. It shows you read beyond the headlines; and obviously not into CNN kinda news reportage. I wish there were more educated folks on NL but sadly you get a herd of high school kids who absolutely know zilch about local affairs not to mention the world politics.
Tribu: It's an organization, i believe they have a way of condemning or even punishing their erring members (they may not necessarily call a press conference for that).
Just some months ago or also, some guys who claimed they are members almost got a lady killed, it was said that other members of the same organization handed those guys to the police. What do you make of that?Perhaps, there are many other cases like that they have fished out the bad eggs to the authority.
I still don't get, is there any member in the said report that admitted being a member of NBM and committed those crimes (forget about the masked 'members')?
Brother, reports on the activities of members of this organization and others like them are not a good read.
These ulcers borne out of thuggery at local institutions here in Nigeria has really spread across Europe. The head of this movement was arrested in Italy. That’s how culpable the leadership are in some of these illegalities.
enebaino: NBM has suspended and expelled lots of erring members. NBM had also lend it voice during the endsars protest, NBM had also send relief materials to flood victims when part of the Niger Delta region was flooded, NBM has and is doing lots of humanitarian services. The list is endless. A criminal is a criminal but you can't use the crime of one man to judge the organization. We have heard stories of lots of Nigerian youths engaging in internet fraud does that mean we are all into fraud? We have heard of some Nigerians engaging in one crime or the other, does that make us all criminals? We want to catch these criminals as well, if you see any member erring, you can write us. But to tag an organization or dent the image of an organization for the crime of one person is malicious, except the journalist has something he's not telling us.
I reckon you take lightly the meaning of the words -extrajudicial killing. The testimonies are not one but many reports of members of NBM in clashes with other organizations, which often leads to death, mutilation and other atrocities. Funny enough, if NBM were expelling erring members, I doubt there will any member left in tertiary institutions.
Italian media last year aired report on NBM activities in Napoli and Firenze. These dodgy activities made the Italian prosecution to go after many Nigerians. Many NBM members were arrested and jailed. The crimes involved racketeering, forced prostitution, human trafficking etc.
All these do not sound like an organization really determined to expel illegals amongst her ranks.
The saddest part is the recruitment of high school kids.... what a benign organization, indeed.
Tribu: Hey Mr. U still have not gotten this, or you just being sentimental (probably u belong to another confra). Nobody is promoting cultism here. The reports on BBC is targeted at defaming NBM and its members many of whom are not criminals. That there's a bad egg(s) in an organization does not make the entire organization evil. You will be surprise to know that many people you revere and respect in your immediate environment are members. What will you do if you find out, loose your respect for them??
And, why is the focus just on NBM?
How many times have you seen NBM call a press conference to condemn the conducts of erring members?
How many times have NBM demanded justice for people who were extrajudicially killed by members?
Now back to my earlier reply, you demanded that BBC should apologize for reporting the atrocious activities of NBM members. Why should BBC apologize? Members of NBM in this BBC report described abdominal crimes committed. Has NBM done anything about these crimes by members if they were such a noble organization?
obehi247: Just because Boko Haram is a terrorist group in Nigeria does not mean every Nigerians are terrorist
BBC should apologize now
What do you mean apologize? Apologize for airing what you and I know as the truth? I don’t get this. Is Blackaxe not NBM? Are they not involved in extrajudicial killings just like other hideous groups you find in the University?
When are we all gonna grow brain and decide to get thing right in this country?
And the clowns want to go court? Where their heinous crimes will be further exposed in court? ... jeez! This attitude is typical of our Nigerian leaders. When they get exposed, they lie, lie some more and double down on the lies.
walkbrazil4k: Like it or not I was a die-hard supporter of America and her allies because of how they fed us with lies and a nice picture, lol, I didn't just wake up and start pointing out the lies of America and her allies and make no mistake I believe in democracy and I am not pro-China or pro-Russia, they are all the same just like America. Let's just say I would be in the middle just like brazil, I guess that's the Brazilian spirit in me already, lol. the Brazilian constitution does not allow brazil to take sides.
I live in South America and if you study their history you would know that they have always been anti-America and anti-imperialism and many countries in South America do not support America.
As an African and with my experience with African politics I know all politicians are the same it does not matter who and this is why I can't get involved in politics or even die for any politician, yes I can give my life for Brazil but not for any politician, just for the flag.
Years ago when I started doing a lot of research about world politics I discovered that Saint America is not a Saint like they claim.
Imagine America hacking the phone of the president of Brazil, how dare you? And why are they crying when Russia and North Korea are doing the same thing to them, I don't understand this hypocrisy? ever heard of Edward Snowden and the WikiLeaks guy Julian Assange?
A few weeks ago we discovered that America killed woman and children in Syria and they justified it, if it was Russia that did it they would have been talking about sanctions, America should apply sanctions on themselves. I hate this world's hypocrisy.
I am not anti-america and I don't support communism, I just support freedom and democracy for all.
Now you are “woke” in a better sense of the word. Those imperialist nations you mentioned are all after their interest. As they always say, “ it’s about our interest.” They are keen to go to the worst case scenario to maintain a hegemony on the rest of the world. They have the Main Stream media in support of this agenda. And that’s why their own atrocities never gets a hearing.
They are after anyone that doesn’t maintain their narrative on issues. They have held Assange for years, chased after alternative voices from airing their views on main stream. They have sponsored rebels just to nip any attempt at multipolar world.
It’s their way or no way. A sad reality of the world we live. Look at Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia. Etc. victims of the hegemon.
Now USA is pressuring Turkey and UAE in the guise of human right abuses to halt support for the federal forces. They have recently setup a human right commission to look into abuses in this war.
And you know who is pulling the strings? They aren’t happy that Ethiopia is winning. They want a change in government so as to stop Chinese investments in Ethiopia, and stop BRI
At the onset of this war, UAE flew drone missions in support of the Federal forces but were pressured to halt when Biden took office.
I am glad Ethiopians were smart to also seek help from Iran. If UAE and Turkey halts support, the Iranians and the Chinese won’t stop their aid to Ethiopia.
It seems so. The federal forces have turned the tide against the rebel forces all with aid of drones. Thousands of rebels have been killed in the drone onslaught.
Yesterday, the rebels announced a complete pull-back to within the borders of Tigray. They wrote in a letter to the United Nations announcing this as a humanitarian gesture, but many see through this as tactical move to avoid a complete wipe out of men and machines on the battle field.
Turkish Bayraktar shock drones have helped the federal forces immensely, helping limit the exposure of their not-so-good combat forces. Same drones helped Azerbaijan destroy Armenian stationary machines and men on the battle field.
Drones from Iran and UAE have also helped the Ethiopians. That’s what friends are for... bring help when in need. You notice the big western powers who were on side of the rebels have completely stayed stunned. Rather than bring these brothers to the table and end the war, they were quick to urge their citizens to leave creating panic amongst the Ethiopians, supporting the rebels all because the Ethiopians are in on the Chinese BRI. Now you know who your enemies are!
I thought Nigeria would have leaned on its friendship with Turkey to acquire and deploy these drones in the NorthEast theater were the open Sahel is a perfect condition for drone attacks on the rebels. But as usual we are deep in trivial looking for cheap loans to squander.
Mariangeles: You endorse Atiku as par who you be na? Owner of Nigeria? Com'on get out!
Na so them polish and repackage baba, sell give us that year, till today, we no see am return.
Tell you what, those who speak and act like they are after your interest, are only after theirs. This dude endorsing Atiku as if Atiku under OBJ addressed any of the issues that plague us.
Rugaria: France is behind the problem in the North East! The federal government knows. ECOWAS knows and France knows that Buhari and his government know what's going on, but they don't care because we're led by generational cowards, who only spring to action when they're about to behead their people. France is fighting Nigeria to ensure that she contains Nigerias growing influence in the sub region. West Africa is the heart of France economy. Nigeria with her full potential, can easily force France out of West Africa. But we have idiotic leaders who can't put their feet down and fight for Africa. I also think they killed Idris Derby because of his sudden hardline posture against Boko Haram and others..
What is your evidence of French involvement in Northern Nigeria?
AlexBells: Nzeogwu had a clean strategy only that the while situation was so badly done, Nzeogwu knew that once he had the North, he is already holding the Military grip of Nigeria, remember he was in Kaduna, it was the failure of the coup in the East and the fact that Nzeogwu had no real ambitions that made for the major blow,
Nzeogwu had already taken hold of the North and with the Coup in the West, only a perfect work in the East could have given Nzeogwu the control of the Nation, he didn't quite need controlling the west, he was not an ardent propagandist, Ojukwu was much better in the area of propaganda, otherwise with the North down, if it worked fine in the East, holding the West and Lagos military wise was not going to be an issue, the East loved Nzeogwu and an Nzeogwu rule would not have been resisted in the East if it got to that point
Just wondering who did Nzeogwu assign the Lagos theater?
AlexBells: Yes Biafra can fight the North like a regular army, matching Lagos was what made it a federal war.
You think western Nigeria would have viewed the war as North versus East conflict and urged western troops in Federal forces to not support the war if the Biafran forces had not attempted a march to the west? I don’t think so.
There was a palpable Anti -Nzeogwu/Igbo frenzy in Western Nigeria; and many from the eastern region left Lagos due to this frenzy. And there reports of killings but not comparable to the pogrom in the north.
AlexBells: They couldn't have reached Kaduna in the first 1 year and yes it could have been better to match North because a little beyond Nsukka is already Northern Region, the war could have raged in Kogi and Benue for the first one year if not for the most part of the war, both side have boundary there
Midwest could have remained Nuetral or even pro east, the issue with matching west is that there is a Nuetral region which you need to cross before reaching the enemies but if they matched Kaduna just an inch towards and you are in the North, the progress could have been slow but if we can't get to Kaduna they can't also get to Enugu and other Igbo heartland
Kogi and Benue could have suffered but it could have been better, yes if they continued a full match towards North they had enough weapons to hold the North away from Igbo heartland and once the Ogbunigwe would be in use much later, it could have been significant
I thought kogi and Benue were neutral lanes in the fight? Taking the fight to these places would make the residents resent Biafran’s attempt at taking the fight to the North.
But then making such a march to north would mean they are fighting like a regular army which as a strategy will fail since they didn’t have the numbers and arms to support such move.
Alex ... what was the man-strength of the Biafran forces? Upto 500k soldiers?
AlexBells: The fact was that things happened too fast and there were serious propaganda, mostly anti Zik and anti Igbo, Zik was blackmailed to numbness by the media
Honestly Zik was the head of state, the coup happened mostly in the North yet and lets say the West and with the prime minister out, maybe if Zik did escape and come back later to fight, we could have still arrive at a riot but the media as at then did not do any justice to anything, first there was suspicion that Zik was part of the coup in a bid to takeover the government but Zik was the head of state and if he tried fighting based on his constitutional powers the media could have rubbished him further,
We can never be satisfied with the events of 1962 to 1970, the more you look at the situation the more you figure out that things happened the way they happened, the coup was partial in the most part of it, Military takeover could not even had been an issue but Zik was already boxed to a corner and he became docile,
May be he (Nzeogwu) never thought out his strategy. He had a coup in the north, but it appears there was no strong attempt to gain control of the western region and the other regions. So the whole attempt to grab power was overwhelmed by media propaganda, lack of support from the other regions who viewed his coup as a power grab by igbos.
Reading through accounts of that episode, I find it so confusing. What was his strategy?
AlexBells: Yes, the discussion is purely academic, I love that Ojukwu stood his ground and fought even though he was not the best to lead the war and every odd was against him,
I'm also happy that the war happened in 1966-70 and not today and regrettably, it is much recoverable that the war happened to the Igbos becuase any other nationality could have been a sort of annihilation, perhaps the war happened to the North at the receiving end, the West could have used the opportunity to decimate them same is applicable if the war was on the West, the North could not have looked back at blowing them up to debris.
Ojukwu was extremely stubborn which I liked up to a point the resistance was surprisingly beyond the initial perception, the fact is this most people think the war was between Biafra and Nigeria but it was a war between two factions of Nigeria, only that one retained the name and capital,
Most weapons even at then was in Kaduna of which Nzeogwu told Ojukwu that the best place to match was Kaduna, it was quite unfortunate that the Northern border defence was so weak and Nsukka would be the first area to fall
Everyone had something good from them, Ojukwu fought and that had saved us from another full scale war and it had helped forge a new identity of the Igbos as people who are not scared to fight, all in all, every war would always have a fault to it, we look at the past and figure out what was done right and what was done right, we really don't pray for another war, the last one had curtailed any further full scale war but you never can tell perhaps we fight again, people need to make right decisions in time to reduce cost
Would it have been easier if they headed north to kaduna? What would have been the objective, to seize Nigeria armory in Kaduna? But Nigeria had a good supply of arms from Britain.
Did they (Biafran forces) have the required man-power to face north to Kaduna and the hostile community who viewed the war as ethnic (Hausa versus igbo)?
AlexBells: I just love Kaduna Nzeogwu 1. He didnt drink alcohol 2. He was an ardent Catholic 3. He prayed a lot 4. He didn't quite have a girlfriend 5. He didn't speak much 6. He was principled, believed in courage, honour and dignity 7. He died fighting
He sure did make some mistakes but my love for him remains unshaken, if I'm in a bus trip with Nzeogwu let's say we would travel to Kaduna together, that would be like a dream come true, I really wish it happened in an alternate universe and it would be March 1966,
I would ask him loads of questions like how he felt the night before the coup, many things to really ask, seriously, I honestly wished Nzeogwu avoided the war, I want to ask him why he fought with Biafra despite being from Midwest, I know Nzeogwu was long dead before he died, he really felt he caused the war, I try to understand he must be depressed at some point along the line.
You must have read a thing or two about Nzeoqwu and his coup. In chinua’s account, the coup was countered in Lagos; where did his coup take place then? Nigeria at that time was divided into regions. Which region did Nzeogwu usurp power?
AlexBells: I know that this question was not directed at me but I find it interesting and would want to answer, Ojukwu was not quite a soldier, he was born with silver spoon, extremely intelligent as a person and as an orator but a total failure as a soldier.
Ojukwu could have deployed counter command at first similar to what IPOB is doing today, launch an ardent civil disobedience mechanism against the North/Western faction and move to work with the Midwest, he could have deployed gorilla tactics while tasking the RAP (Research and Production) team to produce the weapon (Ogbunigwe).
He could have needed time to get some weapons and take the war to the sea, there could have been no need to match to Lagos on land and rattling the situation of the Midwest, but what could have happened, whoever won that war, Nigeria could have won because Ojukwu was not primarily about secession but about command and control
Hi Alex
Yes, that particular attempt to match to Lagos really struck me as stupid. Get to Lagos and then what? Facing a hostile community and onslaught from federal might. I reckon it was suicidal.
But then there were good military strategist in the Biafran ranks. I think there was a commander leading the troops to Midwest that was court marshaled for not heeding the order to continue the march to western Nigeria.
Alex... I hope we can keep the discussion as purely academic so as not to attract those who may view the thread as anti-ojukwu, anti-Nigeria, anti-Biafra or anything else, please.
What has Kim Jong-Un done in his 10 years as North Korea's supreme leader?
One decade on from Kim Jong Il's death North Korea is still ruled by the Kim family. The United Nations describes the regime as being responsible for "systematic, widespread and grave violations of human rights".
Well, those technological leap with improvement in missile ranges is quite a small achievement despite the economic embargo on the country.
I think the North Koreans can tap into the industrial wealth in China, and use their low-wage labor force as an attraction for the Chinese industries now moving over to Vietnam due to increasing wages in China.
If you wanted to know why 1. He fought for Biafra despite being from Midwest then, you should have asked Col. Joe Achuzia before he died in 2018. He was the most successful Biafran commander during the war and he is from the same town (Okpanam) as Nzeogwu.
2. He did the coup, you should have asked Col. Nwobosi before he died in 2020. He was the leading commander that captured Akintola in the Coup and he also fought for Biafra.
You see, answers to your problem were there but you ignored it while you were chasing shadows in the name of preserving this abomination of a country called Nigeria. Those of us that got our answers directly from the horses mouths have made up our minds.
Hello. I guess you know quite a bit about the civil war era. I wonder why the Biafrans fought like a national army Knowing they lacked a lot in armament? And they sustained that strategy till their defeat.
Do you think irregular approach or guerrilla would have made much difference in the outcome of the war?
Reading Chinua’s “there was a country,” one can see that the Biafrans were fightBig to hold territories. I think that was a wrong approach against a well armed “regular” Nigerian Army.
This news is nothing but Psyops. Don’t believe this trash report from Jerusalem post.
It’s about putting pressure on Iran. But I hope the hot heads in Tel Aviv realize that if they ever undertake this bombing run on Tehran, Dimona will be rubbles !
The man that wrote the letter is the head of all Airports in UAE and just as our NCAA here monitors all landing and take off at all Airports in Nigeria, the man does same in UAE.
According the letter from Airpeace, they never got the DXB slot, that’s why the took up the slot at Sharjah.
Air Peace can take one slot in Sharjah and take the other two at Ajman.
Ajman to Dubai is like 30-45mins.
Most Northerners/Southerners come into Lagos, then visit MMA2 to board local flights to their final destinations.
UAE has better transportation infrastructure and good buses that can take people from one Emirate to the other
Except they provide shuttle buses from Ajman to Diera through Sharjah, that Ajman route will be difficult for many travelers. Shuttle buses added cost + SALIk on Dubai roads
