That is what southern Nigeria will vote for.

Politics › Re: Presidency: Edwin Clark Says Tinubu Should Allow South East To Take Its Turn by oyatz(m): 9:50pm On Aug 01, 2020 |
No political party goes into an election by deliberately putting itself in a disadvantaged position. If APC should give it's ticket to the SE, it may trigger some internal rumblings within the party such that the party becomes vulnerable and apart from this fact, the PDP will do everything to defeat the party ,which unfortunately will be easier. However, if a SE candidate contest with aspirants from other parts of the country and emerge through a broad based support of most of the party power brokers, the APC can go into the election as a united family and stand a better chance than the first scenerio of shutting out other aspirants except Igbo aspirants. LegendHero: No matter how you spin it, an Igbo candidate in APC will fail.
Understand the election trend in Nigeria. The SS and SE most times always vote the same way to an extent and that is a blessing and a curse at the same time.
Let’s do a simple analogy. Let’s say APC field Okorocha and PDP fields Peter Obi in an election.
For the SW: the vote will be divided because the Yorubas usually vote 55/45 when the candidate is not a Yoruba. Check all elections where the leading candidates are outsiders to understand what I mean. I score Okorocha 55% here.
For the SS: I can bet it that Peter Obi will win at least 70% of their votes and Okorocha will only muster maximum 30%.
For the SE: Peter Obi will win with at least 85-90% of the votes.
For the NC: It will almost be 50/50% for both candidates.
For the NW & NE: The vice presidential candidate will be the determinant. There will be voter apathy and even if APC will win it won’t be over 60%. The North will be somehow indifferent and especially with how Igbos constantly burn bridges with their unguarded utterances. let’s say Okorocha win 60%.
Now do the Maths yourself to see that APC will dig their own grave if they present an Igbo president against an Igbo presidential candidate in PDP. |

What do you exactly mean by the nebulous term 'NORTH' and who is one of their own? Do Tiv, Bachama, Jukun or Nupe consider a Fulanis candidate jostling to succeed another Fulani president as one of their own or do Fulanis,Hausa, Bolawa or KareKare people consider a Kwara, Igala, Idoma or Tiv candidate as one of their own? Do all the States in the North vote for the same party? ipain: it is not a lie. He Brought out the ads and the news paper. Check him out on twitter.

But don't you think it's Tinubu and not you that should worry about that? Irrespective of the outcome, Tinubu or ANY citizen interested in contesting for the presidency of Nigeria should be allowed and encouraged to do so. It's better Igbos rally round and project one of their own for other Nigerians to embrace and vote for to become the President instead of concentrating their energy on how to stop Tinubu or any Yoruba candidate. Eriokanmi: nice one. Tinubu doesn't even have the pedigree of Awolowo. What Awolowo did to the north by liberating them, clothe them but was still betrayed by them in the last minute, who's tinubu, the corrupt selfish fellow to win the hearts of the north ? |

The Constitution is clear on who can contest for the Presidency. Tinubu should contest for the Presidency. He has a right to do so, he has laboured to build political structures and has his supporters. You should support Atiku, Kwankwanso, Bode George, El-Rufai or whoseever you like. It's a free world. Live and let's live. MrColdsweat: [s][/s]
Look, i don't have time for yarriba hypocrisy.
You yarribas were scared of contesting against jonathan now you open your mouths to accuse people of what you are guilty of....
Its okay to destroy the saraki dynasty in kwara but you accuse bode George of being hateful and jealous because he wants to do the same thing tinubu did in kwara state.
Atiku, saraki, orji are thieves but osibanjo and tinubu are saints.
You want tinubu to remain in the leadership of Lagos but you want the north to step down and handover leadership of Nigeria to you in 2023.
It's like you all have become so shameless and senseless that you no longer recognize simple hypocrisy. |

Your observations may be superficially correct but your inferences are not correct. The pronunciation, origins and meaning of those names are very different in the two languages. However, Yoruba, Bini, Ishan, Ikwerres, Igbo, Igala, Itshekiri and other tribes in between are all related in different degrees. If you start from Ibadan in the West and start moving eastwards, you will notice that the languages spoken along the way keep changing slightly by every 10 km until it finally become Igbo language around River Niger. It's a language spectrum with Igbo at one extreme ,Yoruba at the other extreme with Bini, Urhobo, Itshekiri,Igala, Ishan, Ikwerres, Ika ,Olukumi in between. Obalatule: Ikenne means mother's strength in Igbo, but I would love to hear how it is pronounced in yoruba tongue..... obvious these people can't be Igbo but the town sounds and is written like Igbo(from my point of view).....I may be biased though |

Being president is not about knowing how to play politics, there has to be a general acceptability of your person. The political class themselves (majority of them) do not want him, the masses love him but do not want him as president. If Tinubu is the only person the APC or the south west has to present, they should forget it. |

Jonathan's Ebele is a shortened form of Ebelemi, an Ijaw name that is different from EbeleChukwu which is an Igbo name. However, anybody can bear any names they like. The bearer of the name is the owner of the name. Iamgrey5: But Yorubas voted for Jonathan in mass in the first time; Yorubas protested for Jonathan against the Northern cabal at that time that didn't want him to become the president.
Let me tell you a secret, 90% of Yorubas don't even know the meaning of Ebele neither do they even know it is an "Igbo sounding name".

All the e-warriors on this forum can't even determine the outcome of councillorship election and you ascribe to yourselves the power to determine who will become the President of Nigeria? If you check the past elections, you will see that campaign of calumny against some perceived aspirants ,in the long run often work in such candidates' favour by drawing some sympathy votes for them. Feel free to support your candidate whose righteousness is at par with that of Angel Gabriel, God ultimately will have the final say on who will be president or not. Masterkernel1: When you were carrying Kanu in all the threads, did you bother to check how it feels? I see you everyday asking people to stay off Tinubu, it has not started. You aren't making any sense. Is this crime a tribal matter? Human nature is inherently evil. Crimes occur in ALL countries and i don't know how you assume that crimes will cease to to exist once Biafra is created. Dedetwo: Most Nigerians lacked proper articulation. The actualization of Republic of Igbo land will ensure new constitutional laws to handle crimes different from Nigeria due to tribal sentiment. What Nigeria is today remains the manifestation of Nigeria\Biafra war. I know the level of your intellect cannot drive you to this deduction. |

You are partly correct, however the original inhabitants of the area now called Ibadan were Egba people who were displaced southwards to Abeokuta by influx of mostly Oyo people following the collapse of the Oyo Empire. Ibadan, Ijaiye and the New Oyo (Oyo Alaafin) struggled with each other to step into the shoe of the Old Oyo as the undisputable Capital of the rump of the Empire in which Ibadan (supported by the New Oyo) ultimately triumphed after the disatrous Ibadan-Ijaiye war in the 1860s. So defeated were the opposing camp (Ijaiye and the Egbas) that their towns disintegrated and their people fled in different directions , to resettled in different parts of Yorubaland. The uncompromising attitude of Kunrunmi, the Aare OnaKakanfo and the Governor of Ijaiye in not recognizing Alaafin Adelu as the rightful successor to Alaafin Atiba and the poor judgement of Shodeka and the Egba military regiment in supporting him was a costly mistake which the Ibadan warriors capitalized on by telling everybody who cared to listen why Kunrunmi and the Army loyal to him must be destroyed before they become another Afonja. Bagehot: The original inhabitants of Ibadan came from all over Yoruba-land, as Ibadan was a millitary settlement, hence their strange monarchy system that is based on promotion, as opposed to primogeniture. Even Akin Alabi if he lives long enough can ascend the throne of the Olubadan. |

What you are saying has no bearing with this grave crime committed by the youths of this town near Nsukka against this poor helpless lady and his elder brother. Both the perpetrators of the crimes and victims of the crimes are Igbos. This has nothing to do with Nigeria Vs Biafra civil war. Dedetwo: The zoo called Nigeria has turned everybody into wild animals. This post clearly shows a superficial understanding of Yoruba names, culture and Traditional Religion. It's not only in Lagos State. Hon Babs Oduyoye (Ibadan SW) and the late Hon Temitope 'Shuga' are from Ogun State. Sen Fatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North) is a descendant of a Fulani settler in Ogbomoso. The immediate past Minister of Health represented Osun State in the Federal Executive Council eventhough his father was an Ekiti man who went to settle in Ilesha about 70 years ago. Examples abound but you may not know because you don't know about the politics of these States.
