PoliticsRe: Isreal Sold Non-Functional Drones To Nigeria For $240m by Ozonna(m): 10:51am On Nov 05, 2012
Frank-C:
Do not be deceived. This looks more like business scramble to me. I don't know about the cost of military hardwares but just like every other thing, you won't expect the country to buy a hardware at a price quoted by the manaufacturers unless they sign a contract directly with the coy which also have its pros and cons. Maybe, just maybe, this Hassan guy is losing too much business to his Isreali competitor.
There is a standard procurement procedure and there is what is called Acceptance Test. There is also many components to some procurements like trainings, logistics support, etc. Military contracts are handled carefully.
And on non-functional drones in Benin, does this guy really know what he is talking about? Where is the control center for those drones? Who are the trained professionals at the military to manage them. These are valid question and trust me, you will never get answers because that is just the nature of the military. Even FOI bill can't help you here.
Finally, Isreali drones are one of the most advanced of UAVs available today. It is one thing to procure them. It is entirely another thing to operate them.

philips70: I hear you. Next time I get around the house he owned in PTI road Warri before he went into active politics I will snap it and post it here for all to see. Successful businessman indeed! Up till now the real road that leads to that house is not motor-able. I know what I am speaking, he was in my neighborhood before I moved. Even as corrupt as Italians look, ministers live in rented apartments with co-tenants. As long as we continue to feel our public servants deserve some kind of better living conditions than the ordinary people, solutions to our problems will remain a Utopian venture.
Oga, I think the problem here is that the Whistle blower (Dino Melaye) has credibility issues. If it was a Falana that took the pictures, you'll discover that majority of the posts here will be against Orubebe. Nigerians tend to look @ the messenger before considering the message.

I'm ready to swear/bet before Okija shrine that Dino Melaye is a million times more corrupt than Orubebe.

Honeywell - Oba Otudeko don hammer again.

Every single company on that list is "na we we". They very same players who controlled and Oil and Gas sector have taken over the Power sector.

Nigerian youths any hope for you people breaking loose this generational boundage?
Guy, since you and I don't have d money/resources required, who again do u suggest as buyers? If GEJ sold them all to britons,Americans,Asians, etc pple like u will still complain.

These guys are Nigerians, they have the money and the connection to attract credible technical partners.
We don't have many "clean" Billionaires in Nigeria and that's a sad fact.

I heard one Analyst say that one of the reasons y Indonesian economy is growing is that their corrupt leaders invest most of their stolen wealth in Indonesia (I've not verified dis claim) and not in Switzerland. Imagine if our past leaders were investing in Nigeria all this years, Nigeria would've been more developed than this by now.

I support dis privatisation and I pray it works.

Ijebulogic: This is the most brilliant question so far!!!

Honestly those Abuja folks know us Nigerians well. They "package" a shiny building exterior and all of a sudden accolades start flying out from everywhere. Next thing GCON, GCFR, Honorary Doctorates etc. They have been swindling us for 50 years and Nigerians (3rd generation) are still falling for it. For me,I'm not impressed with all the "shine shine" effects when the practicals have not been addressed. I use that airport twice a week and have done so for the last year. I urge everyone that has the opportunity to go and get a close up look at the "Made in China" effort. For example: 1. As asked by @Daywatcher - where are the new conveyor belts?? 2. When are we launching the full body scan machines to curb terrorist attacks (they were bought for millions of dollars and dumped years ago) 3. When will the security personnel be trained on how to scan hand luggage properly (they allow liquids and pastes of any quantity in hand luggage) 4. Why are people STILL not allowed in the waiting area to welcome passengers (Nigeria is the only country in the world where that happens) 5. In 2012, why have the building designers installed about 20 panasonic ACs hapharzardly in the new wing instead of installing a single central AC unit?? If Palms mall etc can install a central ac to cool a mall, why cant the FGN install one for its airport? 6. Why cant the designers install non-slip commercially enforced tiles? It was raining a couple of days ago and as we came into the hall from the tarmac, people were slipping on the "shine shine " tiles like it was an Ice-Rink. Please let me stop here as there are too many issues, but final point - we must not accept mediocre performance from our leaders. Our projects rank as some of the most expensive in the world, so we must have 100% implementation...no less.
This Ijebuman made heavy sense here. So far the Best post.

Meanwhile, weldone to the FG and Aviation minister for doing their job. Pls whoever is representing the Aviation Minister should answer these questions by Ijebulogic. Tnx

PoliticsRe: Achebe Wrote Out Of Ignorance - Gowon by Ozonna(m): 12:55pm On Oct 28, 2012
Dark Knight: Believe me,if Gowon was truly innocent of the charges,he would have written his memoirs a long time ago. That's the least any reasonable individual will do.Rather than apologize and create room for further integration,Gowon believes he can defend his actions during the war.If he had consulted his lawyer before making such statements,he would have known that his chances of acquittal is one in a million.HE MUST BE AN IGNORAMUS.Sir,Every Head of State that has been tried at the ICJ for war crimes has been convicted. The mere fact that Gowon failed to prevent the genocide indicts him already. The Igbo genocide was the worst in Nigeria's history.Children and women were among the primary targets of that war.Can Gowon defend his 'no victor,no vanquished' cliche when every igbo was given just 20 pounds in exchange for all their biafran money. The aim of that war was not just to regain the Nigerian empire but to silence the voice of the igbos. If the Ohaneze or any igbo group were to take up this matter,it may lead to disintegration.

As for the man AWO,of blessed memory. He was the Financial Minister at the time and he knew the implications of returning 20 pounds to every Igbo for all their millions. It was actually his idea. This was a region that was ravaged by intense poverty and hunger. This act was one that would slow down development in the area and set the Igbo's back by over 30 years.Shortly after this period,Nigeria embarked on privatization that was under Awo.
The Igbo's had no money, the hausa's were not enlightened and the Yoruba's acquired over 80% of Industries in Nigeria.Truth be said,Awo's actions made him the most tribalized leader Nigeria ever had.Though nothing can take away the fact that he was a great leader for his people.

As a country,I believe we all can work together, hausa yoruba, igbo, urhobo, efik, ibibio, itsekiri etc(aside from the folks conducting the regular bombings in the North). Our strength lies in our number. No African country can boast of half of our population.
However in the interest of National Integration,Gowon should apologize to the Igbos. He is in the best position to clear the mess.

yomanovic: I checked the title to confirm if 'yoruba' is there but its 'turkish' I see. The only thing that suggests the he is Yoruba is only his names and that of his father. I guess you feel so bitter that you cant replace the guy's name with a name from your village. If I guess right, you will be igbo. Recenlty, it was northern leaders that warned President 'Ebele' Goodluck that his government is marginalising the Yorubas. Barth Nnaji, outgone minister of power is Igbo, Diezani Madueke, Okojo Iweala... Igbos are heading the ministries that matter a lot to this country and just because of a boy with a high accolade is Yoruba, you suddenly showcase how hopeless you could be. If not that I work with some ibos that are actually reasonable people, I would have they are all the same but I guess you are just one of the sick-headed ones. And if you feel you cant tolerate people of other origin, you log out of nairaland and never come back just because the owner is Yoruba.
With all due respect Sir, the Op edited it. It was Yoruba before he changed it to Nigeria.

I suggest that NASS amend our constitution empowering INEC to conduct guber/national elections in 2-3months as against condcting elections in the 37states in a day.

It'll make it easier for JEGA & co to manage the logistics well and their be enuf securitty to ensure free and fair elections. It'll be harder for politicians to rig if such a law is passed.

I am one that believes that some essential commodities like power should be provided by the govt to allow the pple have a sense of belonging, but the way it has been managed over the years we see the clamour for privatisation.

Recently some state govt have invested heavily in power eg lagos and PH and the truth if they are schemed out through a transparent process that would be unfortunate as we are seeing now some states. Which brings me to how tranparent the process is, I cannot for the life of me understand how Abdulsalami's coys would win 5 discos including ikeja and eko in lagos. we know how well lagos has invested in that area, we also know that power generation transmission amd distribution has never been associated with abdusalami. But his coys have won 5.

Pls someone shud enlighten me more, it seems am missing something in all this!
I thot dat d essence of privatisation is to avoid/stop any form of monopoly? Now Abdulsalam has 5 discos, largest in nigeria and He'll monopolize everytin. If Abdulsalam sneezes,9ja power sector will catch cold.

If there's a time for senate to pass a resolution and GEJ led executive to obey the resolution, that time is now.

Also, it's been noted that: ''Household consumption is growing at more than 9% a year in countries like Nigeria and Ghana, faster than the BRIC average.'' [BRIC = Brazil, Russia, India, China].

http://qz.com/13567/more-work-more-spend-actis-bets-africas-rising-middle-class-needs-malls-and-offices/

Do you know that when Shoprite were conducting surveys and research on whether to set up in Nigeria, many Nigerians responded by advising them to stay away from Nigeria? They claimed that ''90% of Nigerians'' were starving and living on ''less than a dollar a day'' and that only politicians and looters would be able to patronise them.

You know what Shoprite did? They summarily ignored all those ''beer parlour analysts'' - and decided to establish in Nigeria. Today their success has been so massive - nationwide - that they've announced plans to establish 700 more retail outlets in Nigeria.

700.

THIS IS WHY I AM SO IMPATIENT WITH THE NEGATIVE BRIGADE. THEY ARE WORTHLESS TO US. The only people who can help Nigeria today are those who see a future for the country. The negative brigade are merely the other side of the coin of the corrupt elements they moan about.
Had faith like u cos I believed in the privatisation of PHCN as the only way for our economy to improve. But after reading about how BPE organised the bidding process I became discouraged.

We just need divine intervention. That's just it

Dede1: This another series of arrant nonsense propagated by those on the payroll of Nigeria and its friendly foreign governments who supported Nigeria during the war.

I guess the detractors of Biafra and Ojukwu will stop at nothing to register insignificant point. Anybody with atom of human brain will check out the dates when the so-called Public Relation's Representative named Robert S. Goldstein visited Umuahia and when the letter was published.

Let us intelligently and humanly examine the date of November of 1967 when the scallywag named Robert S. Goldstein visited Umuahia and date August 17, 1968 when the so-called letter was published in the Morning Post, Lagos. I can say without equivocation that between these dates, Biafra had enough foods for children until certain areas of Biafra became war torn in late parts of 1968 when the effects of total blockade started to bite harder than at beginning of the war.

I can not understand the headache of Robert S. Goldstein as Public Relation's Representative because at the scheme of things Biafra did not need such an operator. There were many journalists, government sponsored or freelance, who were jostling to report the carnage generated by the war to the world.

Biafra did not and never sought for the goofy expertise of Robert S. Goldstein whose government of the USA leaned toward Nigeria due to undue political pressures from Britain.

Dede1: If you are not a bloody fool, you are certainly a delusional ninny. If you think losing uncles during the war is enough for you to forget your past, it is not enough for some of us who lost father, brothers, sisters, uncles, nephews, aunts and grandparents during the pogrom in northern region and the civil war. Let me call your deduction that Ojukwu forcefully took your uncles away from your village as foolery.

The northern and western regional leaders conspired to kill innocent citizens of eastern region for no apparent reason. My aunts was killed in northern region in 1966 and none of the soldiers who allegedly precipitated the January 15, 1966 coup was even known to her talk less of being related to her.

If you think your bloody village worth anything, it is because you have an Igbo son such Ojukwu who stood before the aggressors and told them enough was enough. In addition, Ndigbo are not people without a mind. I do not need to remind you that Ojukwu flunked senatorial election in his home senatorial zone. Ndigbo have never had human being molded into demigod because of earthly largesse.

Again, let me inform you that what you considered heavy losses was infinitesimal and pale when compared to losses accrued by certain Igbo sons and daughters. As Nigeria stands, you can choose join Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Edo or ethnic group but Igbo and I am sure there no right thinking Igbo son or daughter who will notice you have left.

Tough choices have to be made and which ever way, there'll be some notable casualties.
Our team is ok on paper as usual just hope we'll do well this time in South Africa.

Our soft spot to me is the Goal keeping and Defense section. Enyeama now prone to silly mistakes and central defense have not really clicked in recent time. Hope and pray that Afam returns to full fitness/form. Was surprised when i heard that Ambrose is a regular in Celtic, thats good news he needs the exposure and confidence. Our right full back guy was disappointing against Liberia.

Midfield is ok, i like Nosa, Joel and Nwankwo those guys are young, creative and combines it well with their defensive duties. Fengor is hard as a rock and hes also a utility player(we may use him as our right back) and lets hope that Keshi likes him. We know Mikel Obi, lets hope he'll play with his heart like he did against Liberia. Who's Raheem Lawal? Kalu Uche na striker oh...... We just dey misuse that guy for Super Eagles.

Forward, I'm short of words. In fact once our midfield clicks and supplies them the ball, they'll deliver. Most times the problem has always been that the forwards are not getting the ball because of lack of quality midfielders.
