Wadeoye: A good democractic government, not the corrupt and the ineptitude government of Shagari that saw the likes of Umaru Dikko, Ekueme, etc looting the country dry. That government of Buhari/Idi-agbo would have stopped all forms of corruption and indescipline in the country once and for all.

Shagari didnt much to harm us - I dont understand? It is only ignorance that will make a man think this way. It is not until the country is completely destroyed that people should come to rescue it. Why can't Shagari and Ekuem come out to day to defend their government if they were focused and not hopelessly corrupt?

I have kept asking, should Jerry Rawlings have left the politicians in Ghana who were destroying the country because it was a democratic government?
This link answered your question http://sunnewsonline.com/new/specials/icon/ekwueme-80-the-big-interview-nigeria-is-not-worth-dying-for/.

Take a good look @ this quote from Ekwueme, "Again, Nigerians are very gullible. They like to hear juicy stories about corruption. I remember the late Dele Giwa saying that Umaru Dikko stole N1.2billion from rice deals. And he was saying it on 60 Minutes, that popular American TV programme. And Nigerians bought into it. They were clapping. Now, if I was not in that government, maybe I would have clapped too. But not only was I in government, I was also the chairman of the cabinet budget committee. And I know, of a fact, that the total amount we spent for that importation over that period came to only N900 million. Now, tell me how he can steal N1.2 billion out of N900 million. And yet, Nigerians were clapping".
Dude, the Shagari/Ekwueme govt were not as corrupt as we Nigerians were made to believe by the Buhari led government and that is the gospel truth. Please find time to read the whole interview.

Ekwueme has spoken, we're now waiting for Shagari to speak or maybe he was so well taken care of by Buhari that he just can't criticize him

Wadeoye: Would you shut up your ignorant mouth? Nigeria was good then but can you tell me how we got to this point today? Nigeria was good and some people were taking steps to destroy it and you are here saying Nigeria was good then - we should have folded our arms and allowed the politicians to destroy the country? How old were you then?

Gerry Rowlings should have allowed the destructive politicians in Ghana to continue with their destruction of the country as well? Stupid goat.
Dude, why the insults?

We don't need a TB Joshua to tell us who destroyed Nigeria and you know it. Shagari regime didn't do much harm to us, it was the Military that finished us.

Imagine how far we would've gone if we had allowed democracy to continue. We would have gone far as a nation.

How many jobs did Peter Obi government created for the Anambra people last year or for the past 6 years?
How many companies did Peter Obi attracted to Anambra since the past 6 years?
Thanks

Anyway i am from Enugu but i must confess that in terms of Job creation, i doubt if any Governor in the SE region has attracted the kind of Investment that Peter Obi has attracted to his state ( I maybe wrong).

Basically in Human Development Index, i think Peter Obi has performed more than all the Governors of SE region(Rochas seems to be confused undecided) and this i am sure of.

chino11: Challenges

That high tariff on electricity is the biggest problem. Yes, power supply has improved but we are yet to get there. Unfortunately, the new tariff is posing its own headache. For instance, one factory alone in the Innoson Group – the plastics industry in Enugu – pays a monthly electricity bill of N30 million. It takes a lot of toll on the factory. It does not encourage growth and expansion. That heavy monthly bill reduces your ability to bring in more equipment and employ more hands. It is a problem government should look into because it is a problem all manufacturers are battling with.

Baba-Ibrahim:
The problem some Nigerians have is that they have never travelled out so they keep seeing a single page in the book of life and some don't use their internet access to poen their mind and broaden their horizon.
USA has majority of it's oil fields in Alaska and very few in California and Alaska and yet the over 50 states of this country benefit from,I'v never heard the use senators talk of derivative formular. They pass bill that will be beneficial to the whole nation.
“Yes nobody planted or ever farmed crude oil",it's a natural resources endowed by God.Go and check mineral resources distribution map of any country, you realise, one resources or the other is bestowed on different region.
When power generation started in Nigeria, from Dams situated in Northern region, the north never clamour for rationing the megawatts of power generated using any derivative formular.
Recently, you own kinsman,Tam David-west revealed how much you'v received using tthis derivative formular(#11.7trillion)and yet there's nothing to show for it.Gov's of the southern region has always been the regular customer of EFCC,due to the large amount they receive with nothing to justify it.
It's time we think as a true Nigerian and address issues objectively for our own long term benefit. God bless Nigeria.
Are you saying that the whole of USA (50+ states)depend on oil wealth coming from Alaska huh shocked undecided undecided. I no fit shout tongue.

For your information, Shiroro and Kainji Dams located in northern Nigeria are not the only power generating stations we had/have in Nigeria. In Eastern Nigeria, we had the Oji power station in Enugu state and it was powered by Coal also located in Enugu State. Remember it was IBB that finally stopped coal mining in Nigeria.

It doesn't matter if the Governors of Niger Delta are blowing their money away because its not your business neither is it mine. Its their OYEL money not yours. Let's put pressure on our Govs and Federal reps so that they'll support a resource control bill and not just about pib. Northern Nigeria is so endowed with solid minerals and land mass, let their leaders insist on resource control instead of depending on OYEL

Meaning it will be easier for the carmel to pass through the eye of a needle than for the NASS to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill. The core north have pocketed the politicians from the Middle Belt and when the voting starts, even David Mark will vote against the bill.

The only hope of this Bill being passed is if Oil producing states (Lagos inclusive) are willing to lobby (Bribe) the NASS members from the Middle Belt.

PoliticsRe: Where Is Gej's Enugu "International Airport"? by Ozonna(m): 1:31pm On Dec 27, 2012
Ola edo: Where Is GEJ's Enugu "international airport"?

In 2010 President Goodluck Jonathan Commissioned Akanu Ibiam (Enugu) International Airport. In his remark during the ceremony, Jonathan said he has always considered himself close to the Igbo because of the circumstances of his birth and education. But today, the Place looks like a Civil war zone. There is nothing
International about it.

Akanu Ibiam International Airport, also known as Enugu Airport, is an airport serving Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State of Nigeria. The airport is named after the late Akanu Ibiam (1906-1995), a Medical Doctor and Statesman who hailed from Afikpo in Ebonyi State.

The airport was closed on February 10, 2010, by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for the first phase of major renovation and expansion works. The airport was re-opened on 16 December, 2010, but the second and third phase of the construction works remains an ongoing/unfinished project. They promised the airport is being prepared for its new status as international airport.

Okukuwe ibiam wrote today that if pressure is not brought on the authorities to complete what they initiated, we definitely have an eyesore on our hands.

According to him, "the departure hall looks like a refugee station. You can peer through or sit on the Uncompleted windows, enjoy the the dry dusty air wafting in and have a direct physical appreciation of the runway with flights come in and out. Nothing really stops you from jumping through the windows and Hugging the plane, if your arms are long enough.

"You can circumvent customs by going through the departure hall windows straight to your flight, the place begs for mischief.

"The arrival hall looks like it was recently bombed and cleared of debris. Dirt floor! Conveyor belts? wait for the 25th century! You pick your luggage directly from the Tarmac.

"If you are carrying a luggage or multiple luggages, you need helpers to help you push it up the uncompleted cement steps for a fee. and when exiting the arrival hall, you need them to help guide the carriage down onto a wooden plank and Hold the descending truck or else your luggage will spill on the surroundings, or straight into the waiting reception, who warily step out of your way with your nervous steering and balancing act.

"By the time you pick your luggage up, you'll be as brown as the surrounding dry muddy Enugu landscape. Then you are dusting. Only to see your reception pulling exited luggage towards the car park, with greetings of Chei! Nno! Afuro kwam gi."

When President Goodluck Jonathan approved the assignment and deployment of Mrs. Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi (Anambra), to the Ministry of Aviation, many thought Jonathan appears hell-bent (and rightly so) that the internationalization of Enugu airport be completed in his regime.

Jonathan promised the Igbos that the upgrade of the airport to an international airport and the extension of its runway are part of the Federal Government’s airport rehabilitation programme, designed to improve the state of infrastructure at the nation’s 21 airports.

Thus they naively believed he reposted an Igbo person to man (or is it woman) the aviation ministry in the belief that if an Igbo is not in charge, it is bye bye to an international airport for Enugu.

How wrong they were!

South Eeast comes last in GEJ's mind, he knows how to massage our ego and walk freely without doing anything concrete; like closing whole markets to honour Ojukwu at death and we are happy!

How many Gigantic projects are going on in SE ? Yet, our people are already endorsing him for 2015!

Welcome to Enugu, Welcome to Biafra, Sorry Nigeria.

Please guys kindly go to Enugu Pride of the East thread and see the Airport pics posted by Spyder. The only problem is the slow pace of work.

Under Obasanjo the following landmark achievements were recorded:

1. Introduction of GSM (which has created over a million jobs directly and indirectly)
2. Pension Reforms (the best ever)
3. Debt relief (painfully they've accumulated them all back)
4. Increase in oil derivation to 13% (even GEJ from the ND has not increased it by 0.001%)
5. Successful civilian to civilian transition (never happened before in the history of Nigeria)
6. The EFCC (some said it was to witch hunt but so many highly placed people were convicted)
7. Unbundling of NEPA and creation of the PHCN

When I recall more, I will edit my post

I believe we should enforce a building code, preserve our land for environmental and ecological reasons. As good as Sullivan Chime is, he doesnt want to build a park. A lush green grass + trees well maintained park for relaxation.

If Enugu is expanding as being said here, i think the Govt should come up with a PPP kind of deal to build residential high rise buildings for both middle and high income earners. Govt should also stop indiscriminate construction of "small"houses. Correct me if i am wrong, but i think we need these kinds of high rise residential and office buildings not just in Enugu but in Igboland because of our land problem

It is clear you are all children and do not really know what is going on in the World today. Classic Nigerians falling for the more than obvious problem--reaction--solution scenario. I am very sure your leader will fall in head first and plead for the US soldiers to come rescue Nigeria. I am so ashamed of everything Nigeria...You all better change the name of your Country to Nigeriastan now, because once the bombings start, there is no end to it. Go ask Pakistan and Afghanistan. The good news is anyone who digs up a pit for us, shall fall in it. One day, America will be forgotten just like the Roman empire.

"When the missionaries came to Africa, they had the Bible and we had the land. They said “let us close our eyes and pray.” When we opened them, we had the Bible, and they had the land."
Would we have fallen into this problem if our Northern Brothers hadn't been (and still) sponsoring Boko Haram?

Please let's stop saying that US is interested in our oil, cos they've started massive oil exploration and in no distant future oil will be below $20 per barrel.

mascott: If this story turns out to be true, then am afraid GEJ has succeeded in taking Nigeria back to the stone ages.

Laudable as the project seems, it is saddening that the so called alternative to road or air travel is a 24 hour train journey, in NIGERIA, in 2013! Gosh, I shudder!

To put this situation in proper perspective, the last time I took a train was a manchester bound train from London's Euston station, and the journey time was exactly 2hrs 10 mins, and this was in 2008!

I suspect the pro-GEJ team hang around here waiting for any sort of news to feed on, PITY!

How many of you congratulating GEJ wld seriously consider taking these 24-hour fun rides? Smh!
Oga, let's all be truthful not even a Buhari,Fashola, etc can get us a fast moving train transport system in 2 yrs. The rot there is horrifying.

PoliticsRe: Power Generation Peaks At 4,350MW by Ozonna(m): 9:14pm On Dec 19, 2012
Peterwins: Recently, I listened to a "professional" in the power/energy sector on radio who said that our current transmission infrastructure cannot transmit/evacuate more than 4000MW. So no matter what we generate without adequate transmission capability the excess MW above 4000MW becomes a waste.

He even mentioned that transco calls them sometimes to reduce the amount of MW generated at a particular power plant he once worked as a result of inadequate transmission capability.

Hence, increase in power generation without corresponding transmission and distribution capacity will not make a significant improvement to most public power consumers.

I currently reside in an area with less than 35% of steady public power supply. Those enjoying improvement in steady public power supply must really be having a good time.
