I think Edoyad needs to learn how to argue in the rgiht manner.
U dont argue with only refutations. You bring out your own points backed with statistics and logic.

That aside, I've only spent more than one week in 4 states(Kaduna, Rivers, Lagos and Delta) in the last 12 months and from what I knew about those states and what I see now, I think all of them are performing.
In terms of Infrastructural development, Fashola and Amechi are miles ahead of Uduaghan and Sambo.
In terms of Humand capital development, Uduaghan is doing great.
In terms of reorientation and value perception, Fashola and Uduaghan.
Health, I cant really say, but I know Fashola builds larger structures probably because of the cost and scarcity of land in Lagos.
Security, Sambo. hmmm! Uduaghan considering the state of lawlessness that was evident as a result of the ND struggle; Fashola, considering the population of the state.
Over all, Fashola and  Amechi. But the masses hate these people.
Perfect analysis.

Delta state is so safe that virtually all the oil companies have relocated to LAGOS state Inspite of lagos not having one oil well abi ?
What is the employment situation in Delta state ?
Dude, do you think those your funny institutions is what is meant by education ?
Do you know what transportation is ? Well transportation has a lot with conducive public/mass transportation - even Fifa don't give you hosting rights without  that.
@edoyad
You are a funny person. And you sound very ignorant too.

Oil companies relocated from Delta State for the simple reason that their expatraite staff are the target of the Militants. The crux of their agitation is related to the oil industry, so naturally the oil companies don't feel at home. The residents of Delta state on the other hand, never feel insecure about the presence of militants as their presence seems to have driven out armed robbery and other sundry crimes from  the state.

Employment in Delta state is one of the highest in the country. Have you forgotten that Delta State is the seat of Nigeria's oil industryhuh Do you have any idea the billions of dollars worth of projects that go on in the oil industry on a yearly basis?? Ever hear of Escravos?? Boy, you've got to be ignorant to ask that question!

The institutions I mentioned are just a marker to point the low level of access to education in Lagos State in the face of its massive population.

Anytime I visit Delta State, I look around for signs poverty, I don't see any.Sincerely!!
Anytime I land in Lagos, there is so much poverty, suffering, chaos and squalor everywhere I turn. There are 16 million people in Lagos. I don't think up to 4 million of that number live above poverty. The rest 12 million live in pathetic conditions. No matter the pace of Fashola's work, it would take at least 30 years to make real impact in Lagos.

@Beaf, So going by what i have said, i'm sure we can compile our own little developmental Index here.
1.We should compare the state of security between both
2. Level of education and access to it
3.Electricity and water - don't tell us of generators for street lights o.
4. Transportation in all forms and ramifications of it.
5. Housing in terms of facilities to aid commoners in procuring one.
6. Health situation in all It's ramifications: no. of health workers visavis population, mother/infant mortality rate, access to and cost of treatment etc

I'm open to more suggestions from you. undecided
@EDOYAD
If you want to use these as criteria for comparing Delta State with Lagos state, then you've just nailed yourself.
You criteria is a fair one, but it would work so much in favor of Delta State.
I will take it one by one:

1)State of Security.
Lagos state without question is the most insecure state in the country after Anambra. The rate of Armed robbery in the state is second to none nation wide. Lagos has one of the highest incidences of homicide not only in all of Africa, but throughout the globe.

Delta state on the other hand, although soaked with loads of highly sophisticated weapons both on the sides of the military and the militants, happens to record some of the lowest incidences of crime in the whole country.
For instance, in the last 5 years, there has never been a bank robbery in the city of Warri. Its practically impossible to rob a bank because ofvery active high level security presence across the state.

2) Level of education and access to it
Lagos State with a population of 16 million has just 4 Universities.= UNILAG, LASU, Caleb University & Pan African University.
Delta State with a population of 4 million has 4 universities = DELSU, Western Delta Univ, Novena Univ & Fed. Univ. of Petro. Tech.

Delta & Edo state students have for the past two decades, colonized the top spot in any of the various national exams including JAMB, NCE, et al.
Delta state produces far more graduates than Lagos state depite the huge population difference.
The decrepit nature of government schools in Lagos state cannot in anyway, by any standard be compared with those in Delta state.

Electricity and water
Please don't even start with this one. Delta state has zero problems with water. Zero. The water levels are so high and clean in Delta state by nature's providence that there is hardly a need for the Government to ever do anything about Water supply. Clean water is abundant beyond measure.
On electricity, everybody knows Lagos state has the biggest problem in the country.

Transportation in all forms and ramifications of it.
I wouldn't say much besides the fact that despite the huge number of vehicles in Delta state, there is hardly any incidence of hold ups as every trunk A road has been dualised to create free flow of traffic.
Public transport for the residents of Delta State is brand new air conditioned Toyota Hiace buses.

Housing

Cost of land in LAGOS has made it practically impossible for even the upper middle class to build their own homes. The rents required for some properties in Lagos would build you a comfortable one in some areas of Delta State.

Healthcare:
There is no comparison. Delta state is fortunate to be blessed with a Medical Doctor as Governor, so naturally health care has been on of the focal points of the current administration. Primary care for Pregnant Women, Children and the aged is absolutely free in Delta state.
Lagos cannot boast of such.

Looking at this comparison, it is easy to see why Delta state has the best Human Development index in the country.

Comparing the perfomance of Lagos State Governor with that of Delta State, I sincerely think FASHOLA has performed a little better than Uduaghan, for the simple fact that Delta State has had top grapple with some issues such as the recent Niger Delta Crisis which we all know is a result of the federal Governments policies.
That said, Delta State is a far more liveable place than Lagos and sincerely, there is no comparison.

I have read thru a large part of this thread and have come to the same conclusion as Face:

FACE:
I know what the problem is; the range of world view !

Fashola is doing great according to those in Lagos but they have not been to the other 35 states to measure their satisfaction of how their respective governors are meeting their needs.

What the Lagosians are doing in effect is to compare Fashola with the previous governors of Lagos state, just like the "world series" where only Americans compete and become world champions.

There are so many indices used for measuring development and until all those are compared nationwide, you can not stay in your state and award your governor the best governor of th nation regardless of how excellent you think he is.
Face's conclusion best describes why people tend to assume that their Governor is the best performing, without they themselves having visited other states.
This point is where indices like Beaf's Human Development index become very important.
BusinessRe: Sanusi Incompetent To Manage CBN? by PapaBrowne(m): 1:12pm On Dec 10, 2009
This Pro & Anti Sanusi debate has gone on for a while now, with both sides of the divide not willing to shift sides.

I think it is time we ask ourselves the real questions that matter.

Has Sanusi's actions been good for the economy or not(both long & short term)?

If they have been catastrophic, is the any reason why he should continue on the job??

Everybody that exists in the Nigerian financial realm knows already that Sanusi's actions have caused immense damage to both the financial sector and the Nigerian economy at large.
The negative numbers are just beginning to come out from every sector of the economy. Funny thing is the data shows accelerated decline beginning from August when Sanusi began his destructive moves.

First Bank, which Sanusi headed before his CBN job, is experiencing extreme tightness like never before. Its problems were so bad last week that it was having problems meeting up cash calls from depositors.
Next week, all the banks will be releasing their audit results for the preceding operational year. There we will see how much destruction and damage Sanusi has caused the financial sector.

If you notice, Sanusi has all of a sudden turned press shy. The man that loved the press so much has gone into hiding.
Reason been that the impact of his actions are beginning to reverberate across the landscape and he has no more words to defend his actions in the face of impending realities.

Many of the folks here supporting Sanusi, do not reside in Nigeria and don't have the slightest idea the impact of Sanusi's actions.
Also, many pro Sanusi supporters are salary earners who mostly do not understand the workings of business and the importance of an enabling environment for entrepreneurship to thrive. Sanusi has almost literally killed the entrepreneural spirit in Nigeria's financial sector.

This article from just one sector of the economy, best explains the impact:

N
ew vehicle imports drop by 38%

By Hamed Shobiye with Agency Report, Published: Thursday, 10 Dec 2009

Offloading containers at the A

Only 42,493 units of new cars entered Nigeria between January and November 2009 compared to 75, 000 units imported during the same period in 2008.

The figure (42,493), which represents 38 per cent decline, was attributed to the global economic meltdown that has eroded consumers’ purchasing power and the availability of credit facilities.

Reuters quoted a key player in the Nigerian automobile industry, Mr. Willie Anumudu, as saying that the frequency of customer enquiries and purchases were on the downward trend.

Anumudu, one of the dealers in Nigeria for Toyota Motor Corporation, which controls 40 per cent of the market in the country, said, “We have never seen it so bad.

“In the 19 years that I have been in this business, the last quarter of the year is usually the busiest. But right now, customer enquiries and sales have been the lowest in history.”

Anumudu stated that Toyota had imported vehicles worth N240bn in the last 15 months.

“Car dealers in Nigeria expected new car imports to slump this year as Nigerian banks, hit by loan losses, pulled the plug on asset financing. They said efforts to attract consumers with price discounts were yet to pay off,” he added.

Industry sources put the total number of new car sales last year at about 75,000 units. Credit sales accounted for around 22 per cent of that total, but this has since dropped to virtually zero.

Nigerian banks extended credits aggressively to a growing middle class for much of last year, offering salary-backed loans for everything from refrigerators to cars and share purchases.

But as the global economic downturn took its toll, bank loans, particularly to stock market speculators and fuel importers, turned bad, causing credit to the wider economy to dry up, including loans to buy vehicles.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has, since August 14, injected about N620bn to bail out nine banks judged to be facing severe liquidity crises.
Interesting thing is that despite the fact that the global economic crises started november last year, August to November of this year(Sanusi's period) is responsible for most of the decline.

There is no doubt that Fashola is doing a marvelous job. There is very noticeable change in many parts of Lagos.
However, Lagos is fortunate to be the headquarters of the Nigerian press so Fashola's works would naturally enjoy immense visibility.

Other state Governors that are probably performing might not have the advantage of the media, hence it would be hard to judge them in comparison to Fashola.
One thing I must admit though, the present crop of Governors are performing way better than their predecessors.

Governors I think are performing: Fashola of Lagos, Amaechi of Rivers, Uduaghan of Delta, Chime of Enugu.

PoliticsSanusi's Godfathers Exposed: The Game Plan Unravelling. by PapaBrowne(op): 4:44am On Dec 08, 2009
A lot is beginning to unravel about the CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi's actions in August of 2009.
Sanusi's Godfathers, authors of the script which he has been following have begun to come to light.

First an article on vanguard warns with accurate predictions a purported plan by a clique to cause turmoil in the banking industry. The article gives a couple of potential names been propped up by the clique to replace Soludo as CBN Governor and act as their henchman. Sanusi's name is top on the list. As predicted, Yar Adua appoints Sanusi. In August Sanusi acts out the first part of the script by sacking 5 bank CEO's. The banking industry goes into instant turmoil.New MD's are appointed for the 5 banks. . . . . . . . . . . . . and so much more has happened since then.

Without the need to bore you with too much detail, this article unravels the Grand Godfather---- Dr Saraki and his well scripted assignment prepared for Sanusi.

Points to note:
>>1Saraki is the Chairman of Societe Generale bank-  It lost out in Soludo's consolidation exercise. The Courts returned its license since 2008.    It has yet to restart operations since the return of its licence.

An excerpt from Vanguard's predictions of February 23 2009 describing Anti consolidation forces
Vanguard investigations revealed that the aim of the anti-consolidation forces is to cause loss of public confidence in the banking industry and compel the Federal Government to move in by injecting funds. Further, they ultimately plan to instigate government to take equity holdings in the targeted banks.
Vanguard gathered that the group at work is made up of former bank owners who lost out during the consolidation exercise - a powerful clique in the present government, and some aggrieved persons in three of the six geopolitical zones in the country who felt left out in the consolidation exercise.
>>2 Saraki, others offered  31billion naira loan waivers by new Intercontinental bank management.
http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200911304124487

>>3 Lai Alabi, the New CEO appointed by Sanusi for Intercontinental Bank is a very recent employee of Dr Saraki. He is also responsible for the loan waivers given Saraki's companies.

>>4 Alabi has just sacked 1500 Intercontinental bank staff for what appears quite unclear.
Hear him
Those being forced out of the bank, according to a senior officials, were those regarded as being the moles in the bank that appear to be loyal to the erstwhile Managing Director, Erastus Akingbola.
Yesterday the caretaker Managing Director, Mr. Lai Alabi told newsmen in Lagos while reacting to the waivers the bank granted to debtors that “we are contesting with serious issue of moles in the bank, what this people intend to achieve was to malign the bank, frustrate the progress we have made for the purpose of serving certain interests.
As the game plan unravels and as a clearer picture unfolds, and as Sanusi probably prepares to hand over intercontinental bank to his God Father- Saraki, the question that comes to mind is this: What would be left of the Nigerian economy?? Why Should Sanusi have to cost the Nigerian economy so much more strain and hardship just in order to fulfil the desires of his masters??

If they committed fraud, How come the EFCC haS refused to prosecute them. How come none of the CEO'S are behind bars??
Sanusi has said it time without number that these bank chiefs were sacked for giving out loans to both oil & gas and stockbroking firms both of which were hit hard by the global economic downturn.
So why hold them responsible when they didn't cause the downturn?

Fashola launches surveillance helicopters

National NewsDec 7, 2009

By Gbenga Akanmu & Monsur Olowoopejo

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday,  launched two Bell 412 EP Helicopters with a promise to commit the state’s resources to securing the lives and property of residents.
Speaking during the launch at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Fashola admitted that achieving a crime-free society was a tall order but reiterated that the state government would outspend, outrun and overwhelm the competition that criminals offer.
“We know there is no crime-free society, but we understand that crime and crime patterns are very fluid and we have resolved to stay ahead of the competition. That is why we have made the investment in these machines to give us the capacity to monitor traffic, pursue criminals, fight fire and evacuate people promptly when accidents happen,” the governor said.
According to him, the choice of Bell 412 EP was informed by the multi-faceted platform which allows it to be utilised in several functions, revealing that “the helicopters are specially and uniquely configured for fire fighting, emergency services, search and rescue, air ambulance and airborne surveillance roles.”
He also added that the same type was currently being used by government agencies all over the world including the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia, the Police of Czechs, the Finish Border Guard, Los Angeles County Fire Department, New York City Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, amongst others.
He said the helicopters exceeded the standard Bell 412 prototype, adding that at the request of the state government they have been fitted with 31 extra options to suit the use to which the state acquired them.
On his part, Lagos State Commissioner of Police,  Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo, expressed optimism that the helicopters would enhance security surveillance in the state while pledging that the police would continue to give the needed support to the state government to ensure security of  lives and property of citizens in the state.

Let me give you a slight analogy.
Imagine for one moment a set of twins in their 's womb.

One twin says : "Hey, we have a [/b]. She is responsible for all that we are. We exist because she allowed some guy somewhere between her legs.We are alive because she eats and drinks. She cares so much for us that she goes regularly to a guy called doctor for something called ante-natal".
"Sometimes I hear her speak to us. She calls us babies. She loves us so much that she would do anything for us.
She says we give her joy. I hear it. She keeps thinking about us every moment".

The other twin replies. "What are you talking about. You are just imagining things. There is nothing like . Have you ever seen her? If you say she speaks to us, how come I never hear her? Hey fella, I am on the side of "what you see, is what you get" No hidden charges or bonuses. I wouldn't waste my time thinking about some   that you've just imagined up".
"If truly we have a , why can't she come get us out of this blood soaked tight sac that we've been locked up in since conception".

Twin one says": If only you understood you wouldn't speak like this. She loves us so much that she is going to endure the most grueling pain of her life just to get us out of here. It won't be long, we would be out of here in her arms, free to move around and at the same time feel her love.
She would give us bosom to suck, food to eat, she would bathe us and put us to bed. So much love she would give to us.

The other twin: All this your talk looks too good to be true. However, I only believe in things I see. I don't see a , So I know I don't have one. I'll rather wait till that 9 months you keep talking about is over, then maybe I'll believe.

This analogy gives you a perfect picture on our relationship with God. You don't have to see to believe. The mere fact that a baby can't see or feel the presence of it's  doesn't mean the  doesn't exist.
For me, I know for sure that I didn't make my digestive system, neither did I do anything to ensure that my lungs process oxygen. I know for sure that it has all been regulated by my creator.

In addition, First Bank is facing some serious tightness. They didn't have enough money to disburse to customers throughout last week.
That is the bank Sanusi headed for a while and certified it healthy.
Lets keep watching as things play out in the economy.

There is no state governor in Nigeria, present or past, had half of the Curriculum Vitae of Chukuwma Soludo and yet nobody ever asked them where their gubernatorial expenditures were sourced.
That is the absurdity about Nigerians. Very shady characters become Governors everyday. People we've never heard of.
For the first time, a man with a sound reputation, a man with an excellent record and a resume that would intimidate Barack Obama.
This calibre of man wants to become a state Governor and people are screaming crucify him crucify him.
What a nation.

I am as rational as it gets.
Poverty whether we like it or not is as a result of a mindset and thats why education is of the essence.
Education is one of the tools used to eradicate poverty. What education does, is to expose you to a new mindset. A mindset that sees more possibilities.
Isn't it so obvious that the more educated a country is, the richer the country??
Doesn't that tell you that poverty or even wealth is as a result of a less or more enlightened mindset?
Christianity EtcRe: And I Will Do Whatever You Ask In My Name John 14:13 by PapaBrowne(m): 2:03pm On Dec 04, 2009
He has long long time ago eradicated poverty.
The very day he created a paw paw fruit and put in it almost 600 seeds to ensure that every time we eat, we have more than enough to replenish the earth.
The very day he made fish with ability to reproduce millions more in offspring.

The very fact that he made everything with ability to replenish itself is simple proof that long time ago he dealt with the issue of poverty.
The only reason there is poverty in the world is because man is selfish. We want more than we need.

Poverty is a mind set. Inthe midst of so much fertilty people are poor and you are praying to God to eradicate poverty.

yours is an even lazier argument.
even if he was investing his entire salary, what kind of returns was he making on the investments to enable him splash money around in the name of campaigning.
unles he was investing in 419.
it is either he was stealing while in govt or he has another godfather bankrolling him (if that is the case, another Chris Uba or Emeka Offor scenario awaits Anambra). both are different sides of the same coin.
what kind of mythical investment are you referring to?
The type Erastus Akingbola has been into all this while?
Do you think you are talking to kids in kindergarten or a bunch of retards here?
The onus is on no one.He should carry on with his fellow barbarians.
Just remind you slimy prof that we, the people will never be fooled all the time.
Only a lazy man with little brain would depend on a 500,000 naira salary when he has the capacity intellectually to make much much more.
This is a guy that consulted for 18 international organizations. Do you know how much these organisations pay in consulting fees?
If only you knew how lucrative!!

Yes o. I am on the side of "what you see, is what you get" No hidden charges or bonuses.
@Wirinet

Let me give you a slight analogy.
Imagine for one moment a set of twins in their mother's womb.

One twin says : "Hey, we have a mother.

There is nothing like Mother. Have you ever seen her? If you say she speaks to us, how come I never hear her? Hey fella, I am on the side of "what you see, is what you get" No hidden charges or bonuses. I wouldn't waste my time thinking about some Mother  that you've just imagined up".
"If truly we have a mother, why can't she come get us out of this blood soaked tight sac that we've been locked up in since conception".

Twin one says": If only you understood you wouldn't speak like this. She loves us so much that she is going to endure the most grueling pain of her life just to get us out of here. It won't be long, we would be out of here in her arms, free to move around and at the same time feel her love.
She would give us breast to suck, food to eat, she would bathe us and put us to bed. So much love she would give to us.

The other twin: All this your talk looks too good to be true. However, I only believe in things I see. I don't see a mother, So I know I don't have one. I'll rather wait till that 9 months you keep talking about is over, then maybe I'll believe.

This analogy gives you a perfect picture on our relationship with God. You don't have to see to believe. The mere fact that a baby can't see or feel the presence of it's mother doesn't mean the mother doesn't exist.
For me, I know for sure that I didn't make my digestive system, neither did I do anything to ensure that my lungs process oxygen. I know for sure that it has all been regulated by my creator.

Hey Atheists, we all know atheism is a ruse and it exists solely because God exists. If believers in God are wrong, then there should be no need for such a thing as atheism.

OPCman:
Sanusi Lamido is not a professor but compare what his doing to what a professor and former world bank consultant did for 4 years as a CBN governor, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was not a doctor but compared what he did in Western region with all those carryng paper qualification about i.e Dr Azikwe, Obasanjo did not go to university but compare his administration with this so called fools with MSc in Chemistry and his deputy with Doctorate in Zoology.
Bottom line is, na only Ibo this man can fool . He can not fool the Northerners and the Yorubas. Go and ask Obasanjo, the man will tell you he made a big mistake for put him incharge of Nigeria money, very big mistake
Mr OPC, even the incoherence in your speech gives you away as one who shouldn't have any moral authority to speak on things academic.

Sanusi for crying out loud, as every expert has come to know has only succeeded in causing major chaos in the NIgerian economy. The impact of his actions are just beginning to be felt on the Nigerian economy.
You might not have the capacity to understand, if not I would have brought out data to show you how much damage has been done to the Nigerian economy since August when he started his drunkeness.

mazaje:
Where did I insinuate that in my post to neotic?

I don't know weather to laugh or cry at your very ridiculous analogy. When did I talk about any cyberspace at all? I can fully describe how nairaland and face book look like. Let me describe to you how nairaland looks like. The website has colours like, blue and grey, You can see alphabetical characters, and some images when you visit the site, you can see people's user names. People do not reside on nairaland. Pls describe to me how the mythical kingdom of darkness looks like, who are the people that reside there, how do they look and what is their estimated population.

Nairaland is not a figment of my imagination because I can actually come here and interact with you and other people, How does one interact with the people that live in this mythical kingdom of darkness? What type of clothes do they wear in that kingdom and where is the kingdom located?
Nairaland is actually a figment of our imagination. The Mazaje I assume to be responding to, could just be some alphabets on my computer screen. I have never seen him/her. The Mazaje that I see on my computer doesn't wear no clothes.

Try telling an old lady in the village about cyberspace and watch her reaction.
Sometimes, when I discuss about events & people on Nairaland in the presence of older folks, they always wonder what I'm talking about.
They give me that "where is Nairaland look?". They kind of wonder why I speak of it like like its a place. They don't just get it.

Same way man. Same way that the uninitiated can't understand cyberspace is the same way that the uninitiated can understand  the supernatural.

One of the strongest qulaities of intelligence is an open mind. The more open your mind is, the more likely you are to learn about new things and new ways.
