PoliticsRe: Kudos Governor Fashola, But: by PapaBrowne(m): 11:49pm On Apr 06, 2009
Costs aside, there a a nasty Federal law that would hamper any development.

Federal law demands that any power generated should be pumped into the national grid.
SO even if Fashola builds a 10,000 MW power plant, he has to pump it into the national grid for Zamfara, Ebonyi, Ekiti and all other states in the Fedeartion to share. Lagos would probably end up with 2000 MW.
Now, who would want to make that kind of investment when the benefits are not going to impact your people.

That is the mess that is Nigeria!

Kai! Kai!
I no blame una sha! It is the government that failed to give u guys proper education that I'll place the blame on.

With the kind of reasoning the average Nairalander expresses, Nigeria is in deepshit!
How come majority here can't even argue with the slightest form of intelligence.
If you can't come up with well articulated logic on how Soludo has acted corruptly, then you shouldn't be here commenting!

Soludo is the best thing that has ever happened in the history of the Nigerian economy!

I really wouldn't benefit nothing from picking up a fight with you. You are one of my best contributors on Nairaland.
However, I do feel that many a times your views reflect more the American reality than it does Nigeria.

I really don't want an argument, I just want to know! What allegations do u speak of? You stated clearly, the above allegations and I picked the only three allegations mentioned above.
PoliticsRe: Soludo: Decision Time For Yar’adua by PapaBrowne(m): 3:39am On Apr 06, 2009
Kobojunkie, your been out of touch is a statement of fact, supported by the geography of your location and it is not a crime. I was once in you shoes, so I understand perfectly!
On the actual topic, how come nobody backs up his posts with any form of logic?

Now this is my bone of contention with you on this page!

A rumour passed through Abuja last week that come next Tuesday, the Federal Government would take a decision on whether to renew the tenure of CBN Governor Charles Soludo, or to sack him and hand him over to the EFCC (my expectation). Soludo lives an obscenely opulent life at public expense while the ‘super banks’ he created and the stock market value he helped to conjure up live on life support; the article below which was first published on this page in August last year is reprinted as a ‘tribute’ or epitaph to the damage Soludo has done to our economy in the last eight years. If his tenure is renewed, the FG should know that it is not with the support of millions of us. We don’t trust him.

I do hope the EFCC investigates the above allegations.
You hope the EFCC investigates what? Obscene opulence, creation of "super banks" or conjuring up the stock market?? Which allegations should the EFCC start with? If you can explain to me logically why and how the EFCC should investigate these allegations, then I will retract my comments.

There is a culture brewing in Nigeria where excellent performance must be trampled down and that is a very dangerous trend. They've done it to El-rufai, then Ribadu and the next in line obviously is Soludo. The same folks that have and continue to destroy Nigeria are the perpertrators. They are fully aware that Nigerians are a gullible bunch and any story you sell to them about these excellent performers would be swallowed hook line and sinker!

I'm tired of this nairaland sef!
Too many people with either too little information or too little intelligence!

I don't need to explain anything. . . . but Soludo is amongst the best Central bank Governors anywhere in the world!

Are we trying to put the failures of the Nigerian President on the Governor of the CBN?? Please!! I tire to write sef!

@Kobojunkie
While your reasoning is fair, I think you've been out of Nigeria way too long, hence you express an obvious lack of touch with any form of reality on the Nigerian situation.

@Outlookbabe et al, I'm amazed at your reasoning!

Interesting thread!
It is funny how most of us, myself inclusive have contributed nothing to Nigeria and we are always complaining!
I have pondered the question and realised I have made little or no direct contribution to Nigeria, except maybe you would call personal businesses a contribution since it adds to our GDP!
On the contrary, despite the failures of our leaders, Nigeria gave majority of us an education, some infrastructure and of course our very honourable green passport! Now thats something! So somehow, we owe our country!

On a realistic note, I'm guilty as charged but I'm pregnant with ideas on how to contribute to Nigeria and I plan on starting an Economic Development Center, a Community Agricultural Project and yes! I dream of walking into one decrepit government school, renovate it to international stantards and see what impact it would have on the kids!

@Revmallam
Always on point! Your ideologies always resonate an understanding that is above that of the average Nairalander/Nigerian!

Hehe, O boy, this thing is funny ooooh!
@McCrackles,
Don't you see the irony in this thing? Is it for you to complain or for members to complain? If members are happy with the purchase, then why are you bothered?
If you want to be a bonafide complainer, then go and join the Church! You cannot decide for the Church and it's members what is important for them.
SegzeJoe looks to be a member and he seems very happy with purchase, and now you are calling him a brainwashed fool!
I think it is you that needs to buy a spanner, go to a neurosurgeon and tell him to help you tighten the loosened nuts!

How is 4Billion Naira justifiable on a lavish and a less pressing luxury especially in this tough times?
Who told you the Church and its members are having tough times? You think it's everybody having tough times?
If the bloody jet breaks down, wont he fail on his appointments?
Who thinks like this?? If we all think like this before we make purchases, we wouldn't have any cars on the street!
You have been masked and smeared in so much poppycocks, you dont make any sense!
Isn't it high time you realized that sense making is relative, hence, one man's sense making is another man's stupidity.
What is sense to you is senseless to SegzyJoe!
I am not here to insult daddy GO but what i am saying is Daddy GO should apply his senses more effectively and in the most humane way!
I think if you apply your senses the same way Daddy GO does, you would have left greater footprints on society, as against your little or no contribution besides here on Nairaland!
We dont bloody care if the church has a parish in the moon, the point is still, the bloody jet is not justifiable!
The same reason why it is not for you to bloody care, is the same reason why it is not for you to justify whether or not the private jet is justifiable!
You have no moral obligation nor justification to speak on a purchase by an entity you don't belong to, worse still when it seems to me all members are glad and happy about it!

Maybe you are underestimating the profile of Adeboye, perhaps because he is Nigerian!

Just to put things in perspective, remember TIME MAGAZINE named him amongst the 50 most influential persons on the planet alongside the likes of Obama, Oprah, The Clintons and other world leaders many of whom were Heads of states.
Now you shouldn't underestimate the workload of someone with that kind of profile!

Cult Following? I don't see any RCCG members wearing Tee shirts with his pictures or engraving tattoos with his name on their bodies!

So handling fees, maintenance fees and the cost of buying a jet are cheaper than a commercial airliner? WTF happened to Delta Skymiles.

Adeboye seems to be building a cult of personality where his actions are unquestioned.
The cost of things my friend, is not measured only in monetary terms! The cost of time for high mobility leaders is much weightier by far than the cost of money!
While you can increase your money, you cannot increase your time, hence your only option is to increase the rate at which you do things!
The private jet does just that!

And may I ask why you still can't understand the fact that as a non-member of RCCG, you have no right to question decisions of the organisation. They are not answerable to you! Those(RCCG members) that have the moral authority to question the church, seem to be fully in support, as they are happily defending the purchase even here on Nairaland!

In the push to force Intercontinental Bank to disclose the true state of its affairs, I would like to ask every interested person on Nairaland to join a letter writing campaign to the European Investment Bank, EIB, from which Intercontinental bank claims to have obtained a 50m Euro facility. The point of this letter is to ask them to reveal the true nature of their business with Intercontinental Bank. It is particularly worrying that the bank inaugurated an education foundation soon after announcing the deal.

Please join in this campaign.

May I inform you that with the purchase of the Private Jet, you are now at greater risk of abandoning your agnostic state, as the long arm of the RCCG gets ever closer to your territory wherever you are!

Bros,
I thank you there.
to paraphrase Fela: 'Na so African man life be, suffer don dabaru im sense'
People dey yarn like say na their money RCCG take buy jet.
Questions:
-is it okay for IBB to own a private jet? Cos I never seen any such thread, even though I know for a fact that he has one?
-is it okay for the GMD NNPC to have a private jet? Cos I also know for a fact that there is an official jet of similar spec to the RCCG jet attached to that function.
-was it okay for OBJ to buy the Boeing Business Jet at 100bn plus, even though it was never delivered (to the best of my knowledge)?
-Is it okay for other certified government and allied looters (Dangote, Otedola, etc, etc) to own private jets (because they do o!)?

Adeboye is head of an organization, RCCG, and is answerable only to the trustees of that organization. Also, the jet was not bought by him, but by the organization. That is the problem of the organization, not for general consumption by the general public, and that includes the idle academic in the States who wrote that article. The problem be say, as a religious leader, everybody feels the need to comment about everything he does.
I've always wondered how come the non-members of the said RCCG are the ones raising the most dust about this jet. When your leaders are there buying not only jets but islands, oil fields and what have you. Nobody has anything to say. Instead some people will cite them as the most innovative businessmen in Nigeria. How laughable. Nigeria must be the only country where you become a super-billionaire by selling car stereos to top military men, a la Adenuga. N una sabi.
This is the best reply on any thread!

Now, if anybody can answer the highlighted questions above, then he has the moral justification to keep criticisizng. If you can't, then forever seal your lips on this issue!

Really, how come members of RCCG are happy about the purchase, while non-members, are the ones screaming fowl!
Why we dey drink panadol for another person headache? RCCG members are happy for crying out loud!!!
Come to think of it, RCCG is an organization and its leaders are responsible to their members and not to the nairaland public!

@Samorijack
I read it and it is a very interesting article. However, I disagree that it is a logical write-up!
What truth is punching me in the face? I am not a pentecostal preacher!

I have two points I'm trying to show you
1)An On-Demand leader heading such a large organisation, whether it's a church, mosque, company or institution and having to be in as much places at the same time is the simple reason private jets are made! In most cases they are a neccesity and not a luxury!

2)If RCCG members have chosen not to complain, and despite their knowledge of the purchase of the Jet, would happily give even more money next sunday, why do you and perhaps the writer take it upon yourself to fight on their behalf?
The truth is most members, both rich and poor on hearing of the purchase, would celebrate it!

The thing is this, whether the preacher gives all his money to the poor or uses it to buy a private jet, the naysayers are always going to criticize him as either too stupid and poor or too flamboyant and rich!
PoliticsRe: Pastor Adeboyes's Private Jet A Must Read by PapaBrowne(m): 12:20am On Mar 26, 2009
The writer obviously prefers RCCG to have remained in poverty and penury so that he can laugh and write about the worn out shoes and torn trousers of the Clergy.
Whether Preachers are poor or rich, quiet or noisy, wining & dining or fasting & praying, the naysayers are always going to have something negative to write about!

A private jet for the Head of an organization with 6000 branches in maybe over 80 countries, to me shouldn't be an issue!

If you know the International speaking schedules of many of these men, you would understand that a private jet is a necessity.

The truth has been revealed!!!!
The source of the attack on Intercontinental bank has been exposed!
It is not fellow banks trying to De-Market Intercontinental bank!

It is the same Northern Cabal that has held Nigeria back all these years, trying to take over the banking industry which they lost a grip of during the consolidation exercise!
To all you guys who have been trying to pull down Intercontinental bank, Read the article below culled from Vanguard Newspapers!
The Dayo Coker Blogger is not real, it is just a fake name used to make it appear like a Yoruba blogger!

It's a pity how ignorant Nigerians(many of them Nairalanders) keep helping these very few oligarchs rape them of every opportunity and resource they have!! You better get wiser! You've been raped with JAMB,Quota system, Land Use act, Federal character and all the other jargon they've used over the years. Now its time for the banks!
If they succeed in making Government buy stake in the top 5 banks, the first thing they would introduce is Federal Character! They sack half the people working in these banks and fill them with their illiterates , the same way they did NNPC, NPA and all the other government agencies!
You better wake up!

Group plots takeover of five top banks    E-mail
Written by Omoh Gabriel & Emeka Mamah
Monday, 23 March 2009

LAGOS—ANTI-CONSOLIDATION forces have regrouped with the hope of dismantling the structures and forcing a takeover of the top five banks in the country, Vanguard can now reveal.

The grand plan by the group is to cause panic and uncertainty in the industry and make the target banks look unsafe for depositors.

Meantime, indications emerged yesterday that the Federal Government may announce the names of a new Governor of the Central Bank (CBN) and the Auditor-General of the Federation (AGF) in April just a few weeks before the tenure of the incumbents run out.

However, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed concern over what it described as the rapidly deteriorating liquidity situation in the banking industry and tasked the Central Bank (CBN) to make public information on causes of the development as well as the scale of the crisis.

Vanguard investigations revealed that the aim of the anti-consolidation forces is to cause loss of public confidence in the banking industry and compel the Federal Government to move in by injecting funds. Further, they ultimately plan to instigate government to take equity holdings in the targeted banks.

Vanguard gathered that the group at work is made up of former bank owners who lost out during the consolidation exercise, a powerful clique in the present government, and some aggrieved persons in three of the six geopolitical zones in the country who felt left out in the consolidation exercise.

Presidency sources disclosed that those who felt left out in the consolidation exercise are up in arms to recoup what they felt they lost during Obasanjo years.

Part of the plans hatched by the group is to ensure that the incumbent Governor of the Central Bank, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, does not get a second term. The plan is also to ensure that whatever gains consolidation recorded are discredited. This, it was learnt, was meant to force the President to act quickly in the matter of appointment of a successor to Soludo as they anticipate that the president’s slow move may scuttle their dreams and cause the renewal of Soludo’s re-appointment for a second term.

The group’s second game plan is to make Nigerian banks look unsafe in the eye of the banking public. Part of the game is to spread rumours that some banks are unsound and are on the verge of collapse. They send out text messages to individuals and account holders passing wrong information on their target banks. At the moment, the group’s target is one of the high-flying new generation banks where they have sent out several messages.

1.His job application had been rejected or had worked for the said bank before being "fired". There's too much venom on his attack on this bank. I think this is personal. Over here, people go to jail for these stuff
Perfect Analysis!
This is exactly what I was thinking!

Look at this statement from the blogger. The blogger isn't smart at all and doesn't know the law concerning libel and defamation of an entity, he is setting himself up for a sumptous jail term!

Well, they obviously do not understand how far we are willing to go with this crusade. As I write, flyers and posters have been printed for distribution around Nigeria's major cities explaining the true state of things in the banking industry. Denizens of the United Kingdom who want to more information can also meet us at Speaker's Corner where we will soon hold a series of conferences.
Why would anyone go as far as printing flyers to distribute such defamation? Why do u care about the banks books when you are not a shareholder nor a customer? Who loses anyway?

No bank customer has complained the he went to withdraw money and the bank didn't have money to give him.
So since he assumes they are having problems, why are they still able to meet their obligations to their customers with relative ease?

Apparently, this is all a waste of time as months from now, Intercontinental bank will still be waxing strong, perhaps globally, while the blogger is probably going to remain poorer all his life as people with such mentalities hardly ever succeed!
As for me, I will keep banking with Intercontinental bank!

people asking questions is not a negative thing. people wanting to know the truth is not negative. Nigerians are learning and realising that they can, should and must ask these questions.

The more you seek to bury the truth or to dismiss as irrelevant issues that people are curious about, the more negative it will appear.  This thing no suppose be long tin at all. If all these intercontinental bank staff on here and that sent those emails simply issued a document showing the banks current financial status (that information is supposed to be public anyway) and showed evidence in a civil manner to support their claims that the bank is stable, this would have ended very quickly. Instead you have the typical Nigerian response of a bunch of retards foaming at the mouth and refusing to provide any concrete information.

Just looking at the original post I can already pick a bunch of logical holes that would have easily destroyed the dayo guys case, that is until the a fore mentioned retards gave it a whole lot of credibility by ranting and raving without a pause for thought.

Everybody knows there are loads of logical holes in the Dayo Guy's post, and thats the source of my worry!

So my question is this: Since you can "pick a bunch of logical holes in the Dayo Guy's case", why are you so excited about the prospect of seeing a private entity in turmoil? What wrong have they done to you or to people you know? What do you gain by hating on a successful private entity? ? ?

If its the government that you hate on, thats perfectly understandable! But a private company employing thousands of people and providing services to millions others? I would never understand this Pull down Mentality and how it got into your brain and that of many other Nigerians
