Work Begins On U.S. $1.4 Billion Warri Industrial Business Park

What is the industrial Park?

The warri industrial park is going to be deliberately designed, fabricated, fully constructed and developed business community (manufacturing and service companies) located in one place or land area. It is a community of businesses seeking collective benefits that is greater than the sum of individual benefits each company would realize by only optimizing its individual performance. The business community will also seek the benefits of neighbouring communities to ensure that net impact of its development is positive.

Quote:
Construction work has begun on the multi-billion dollar Delta Industrial and Technological Park located at Aladja, near Warri,

The first phase of the park which is located on a 1,000 acres of land is expected to gulp over $1.4 billion when construction activity is completed in 40 months time.

Orugbo, who disclosed this when he paid a courtesy call on the Ovie (traditional ruler) of Udu kingdom at his palace in Aladja, said work on the park is expected to take between 10 and 15 years to complete.

According to him, Aladja was chosen to house the part which is expected to launch the technological take-off of Nigeria because of its proximity to raw materials needed for the park to thrive.

Such raw materials included abundant gas which is available from the nearby Utorogu Gas Plant belonging to the Shell Petroleum Development Company, the Delta Steel Plants, a rail line, a river port, road network and a power source that will ensure continuous power supply.

Orugbo enthused that when full construction activities begin, the park is expected to employ thousands of youths many of whom would be trained to be useful to the community and themselves.

"We are privileged to have a steel plant now. We are building things that will make our youths to be trained in technical education. And generate employment through small and medium scale industry," he said.

State Police would go a long way to change the security dynamics in the country.
The States with effective Police systems would drive all the criminals out to other states without effective Police systems.
When the the states with non performing Police forces begin to feel the heat from the criminals, they too would sit up!

Fashola knows the way forward. I wish we didn't have that nasty constitution!

I love Warri. I had a wonderful childhood in that city.
The city is in the news again and it is a political hot topic for all the wrong reasons.
Many people have a very wrong impression of what Warri really is.
Many perceive Warri as a Dangerous, Militant Infested Haven. Others know Warri only from the mouths of comedians.

But sincerely, Warri is one of the most liveable cities in Nigeria. I think Warri is amongst the Top 5 cities in the country.
In terms of per capita GDP, Warri is second only to Abuja. The number of middle class citizens in Warri is almost as much as the number of poor in the city. The number of brand new cars are almost equal to the number of old cars. The city has one of the best economies in Nigeria as a result of the oil economy.
All major roads in the city are dualised with street lights working perfectly from 6pm to 6am.

Much of the crises that we hear of doesn't take place in the city of Warri. It takes place in the creeks. The creeks are far away- some good two hours away by boat.

Once again, I love Warri cos I grew up there and I thought I could help correct erroneous impressions.

Here are some pics

Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Cd's Are Too Cheap! by PapaBrowne(m): 7:51pm On May 29, 2009
kevoh:
@Papabrowne
In this case a recharge card gives u the value of your money, please don't put both on the same pedestal. Give me a very good album like Asa's and I'll pay more than 400 naira for it, that's what I call 'value for your money'. 10 years from now and I'll still be playing her album unlike most artists that release party songs not that I'm against it(hey na who no like clubbing) but these songs are just seasonal, they'll change as soon as something new takes over naija!
Thats my point! Why would you pay just 400 naira for something you'd enjoy for another 10 years. An album like ASA's should sell for something like N2000. Its the best album I've heard in ages and yet I bought it for just 150 naira. That is three minutes talk time on most networks!I feel guilty just knowing how much I bought such a masterpiece!
The problem of proper distribution/marketing of CDs & Movies would be over soon as we are working out something cool 4 the nigerian market!
Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Cd's Are Too Cheap! by PapaBrowne(m): 2:31pm On May 29, 2009
@Poster
I have thought about this too. I think the prices are way too cheap.
To think about it, we easily spend 500 Naira on recharge card that would give us talk time of just over 10 minutes and yet, a CD we would play over and over again for years we are willing to pay only N150.
It is ridiculous.
PoliticsRe: Who would win : MEND or JTF? by PapaBrowne(op): 10:55am On May 29, 2009
texazzpete:
@Jakumo
When you think 'creeks', stop visualizing the twisted jungles of Vietnam. There are lots of open spaces the Navy can easily exploit, plus they have unchalleged air superiority.
The Millitants rely on surprise attacks and ambushes in numbers with speedboats. Once their camps are destroyed and the millitants dispersed, their ability as a credible fighting force will take a serious beating.
All the Navy has to do is starve them. Cut off their crude oil buyers, stop the state Governments from giving them 'peace' money and then make sure they kill as many of the millitants as possible to reduce their ranks. That'll do the trick.
You have little idea what you talk about.
First, the creeks are a much more difficult terrain than the jungle.
While meandering through a jungle is predictably monotonous, on the other hand, every new creek you see is an entirely new terrain.
Worse still, the Nigerian Navy nor the Army never trained in the creeks as their initial job description was to protect our borders, hence they restricted their combat training to the high seas.
There is no greater nightmare for the military than to have to meander through the Niger Delta creeks, as every bend poses a danger  cos militants could lay ambush on the other side.
I'm still amazed that up until this day, the military hasn't captured or claimed to have killed any large number of militants.

texazzpete:
MEND killed several JTF personnel in cold blood. These people signed up to protect the country, and despite all flaws are our first line of defense - love 'em or hate 'em. These people have wives, kids, parents, families. They were breadwinners and fathers to many families.

' (tell me, when was the last time any of you clowns carried out an assesment of the ethnic composition analysis of the JTF before concluding that all of them come from the north?). Is North = Evil?

Like it or not, the JTF is our army, and we need to avoid this knee-jerk criticism of everything they do.
These people have wives, kids, parents and families?? Do the innocent hundreds they killed not have loved ones too?
If you've ever been to the Niger Delta, you'd know that over 80% of the JTF is of the Hausa/Fulani Stock!
The JTF is whose army??

I do not support the militants but I have no choice but to support their ideology in the face of a deliberate attempt by Abuja/ YarAdua types/Northern hegemoists to prevent this nation from experiencing true federalism.
Why is it so hard to just sincerely tackle the real issues??

The cabs would reduce the number of vehicles on the streets.
With the availability of these cabs, many folks would instead of driving to and about anywhere with their own private vehicles, rather take a cab as it would save them the stress of driving in the perennial Lagos traffic.

The best part of this is that the state government didn't(I guess) have to spend a dime.

Romance8 Toxic Personalities To Avoid. by PapaBrowne(op): 7:55pm On May 27, 2009
Although we like to think that the people in our lives are well-adjusted, happy, healthy minded individuals, we sometimes realize that it just isn't so.  Personally, I've had moments where I'll be skipping through my day, happy as can be, thinking life is grand and BAM, I'll be blindsided by someone who manages to knock the happy wind out of my sails.  Sometimes it is easy to write it off and other times, not so much.

Maybe you are a positive person, but when you are around a certain individual, you feel negative.  Or, maybe you have an idealistic view of the world and when you are with certain people, you are made to feel silly, unrealistic or delusional.  Or, maybe you pride yourself in being completely independent and in control of your life, but when you are around a certain family member, you regress into a state of childhood.

Some of these situations, and yes, these people, can have a tremendously negative impact on our lives.  And, although we are all human and have our 'issues,' some 'issues' are quite frankly, toxic.  They are toxic to our happiness.  They are toxic to our mental outlook.  They are toxic to our self-esteem.  And they are toxic to our lives.  They can suck the life out of us and even shorten our lifespan.

Here are the worst of the toxic personalities out there and how to spot them:

1. Manipulative Mary: These individuals are experts at manipulation tactics.  Is a matter of fact, you may not even realize you have been manipulated until it is too late.  These individuals figure out what your 'buttons' are, and push them to get what they want.

   * Why they are toxic: These people have a way of eating away at your belief system and self-esteem.  They find ways to make you do things that you don't necessarily want to do and before you know it, you lose your sense of identity, your personal priorities and your ability to see the reality of the situation.  The world all of a sudden becomes centered around their needs and their priorities.

2. Narcissistic Nancy: These people have an extreme sense of self-importance and believe that the world revolves around them.  They are often not as sly as the Manipulative Marys of the world, but instead, tend to be a bit overt about getting their needs met.  You often want to say to them "It isn't always about you."

   * Why they are toxic: They are solely focused on their needs, leaving your needs in the dust.  You are left disappointed and unfulfilled.  Further, they zap your energy by getting you to focus so much on them, that you have nothing left for yourself.

3. Debbie Downers: These people can't appreciate the positive in life.  If you tell them that it is a beautiful day, they will tell you about the impending dreary forecast.  If you tell them you aced a mid-term, they'll tell you about how difficult the final is going to be.

   * Why they are toxic: They take the joy out of everything.  Your rosy outlook on life continues to get squashed with negativity.  Before you know it, their negativity consumes you and you start looking at things with gray colored glasses yourself.

4. Judgmental Jims: When you see things as cute and quirky, they see things as strange and unattractive.  If you find people's unique perspectives refreshing, they find them 'wrong'.  If you like someone's eclectic taste, they find it 'disturbing' or 'bad'.

   * Why they are toxic: Judgmental people are much like Debbie Downers.  In a world where freedom rings, judgment is sooo over.  If the world was a homogeneous place, life would be pretty boring.  Spending a lot of time with these types can inadvertently convert you into a judgmental person as well.

5. Dream Killing Keiths: Every time you have an idea, these people tell you why you can't do it.  As you achieve, they try to pull you down.  As you dream, they are the first to tell you it is impossible.

   * Why they are toxic: These people are stuck in what is instead of what could be.  Further, these individuals eat away at your self-esteem and your belief in yourself.  Progress and change can only occur from doing new things and innovating, dreaming the impossible and reaching for the stars.

6. Insincere Illissas: You never quite feel that these people are being sincere.  You tell a funny story, they give you a polite laugh.  You feel depressed and sad and they give you a 'there, there' type response.  You tell them you are excited about something and you get a very ho-hum response.

   * Why they are toxic: People who aren't sincere or genuine build relationships on superficial criteria.  This breeds shallow, meaningless relationships.  When you are really in need of a friend, they won't be there.  When you really need constructive criticism, they would rather tell you that you are great the way you are.  When you need support, they would rather see you fail or make a fool of yourself.

7. Disrespectful Dannys: These people will say or do things at the most inappropriate times and in the most inappropriate ways.  In essence, they are more subtle, grown up bullies.  Maybe this person is a friend who you confided in and uses your secret against you.  Maybe it is a family member who puts their busy-body nose into your affairs when it is none of their business.  Or maybe, it is a colleague who says demeaning things to you.

   * Why they are toxic: These people have no sense of boundaries and don't respect your feelings or, for that matter, your privacy.  These people will cause you to feel frustrated and disrespected.

8. Never Enough Nellies: You can never give enough to these people to make them happy.  They take you for granted and have unrealistic expectations of you.  They find ways to continually fault you and never take responsibility for anything themselves.

   * Why they are toxic: You will spend so much time trying to please them, that you will end up losing yourself in the process.  They will require all of your time and energy, leaving you worn out and your own needs sacrificed.

Which one of these personalities describe you? Remember, before we start accusing others of possessing any one of these qualities, we should look within, we might just find that we possess all the qualities.

Very interesting read!! I'm guessing El Rufai is writing a book!
I really does explain how things operate in Nigeria's corridor of power.

My best part of the article is this

"According to then Governor Yar’Adua, when he visited me - the President sent Governor James Ibori of Delta State to see him in Katsina and invite him to pick the Presidential Nomination Form of the PDP. Umaru flew to Abuja in a private jet arranged by Obasanjo and Ibori the following day. By the time he got to Abuja, Ibori had already paid the N5 million (US $40,000) application fee and collected the form in Umaru’s name."
What a strategic thinker Ibori is. That 5 million Naira investment has paid off a million times and over.
