Car Talk › Re: How Long Should I Warm Up My Car Before Driving? by PAQ(m): 12:54pm On Apr 22, 2021
30 seconds or less is all it takes to warm up a car. The electric fuel injectors in modern cars help regulate the issue of warming a cold engine. Any longer you spend idling the engine will just lead to fuel wastage. Once the car is up and running, you are good to go, but dont hit the accelerator like you are in a drag race(This is not good for your transmission), accelerate gently as you go. The days of long idling to warm up your car are gone with the days of carburetors, which you dont find in modern cars anymore.

Warming up your car even exposes you to more risks, such as;
-Inhaling of exhaust fumes (Carbon Mon Oxide poisoning)
-exposing yourself to theft while sitting idle, warming the car.
-wasting fuel
-it leads to engine wear because the extra unevaporated gas in the mix will strip the oils from the inside of your engine, decreasing lubrication and increasing the wear and tear on its parts.

If the weather is too cold you may wish to warm a little longer then start off with low speed for some minutes, luckily Nigeria doesnt get that cold.

All these facts are verifiable from the internet/ Google. i have known these for years now and i have owned quite a few cars that i have driven without wasting precious time in the name of warming up. Those cars have changed ownership and still enjoyed without any engine problems.
Travel › Re: Maiduguri The Media Will Never Show You: A Tour Of The City (Photos, Video) by PAQ(m): 6:28pm On Apr 21, 2021
Its been more than 30yrs since i left Maiduguri, i attended Maiduguri International Primary School (MIPSET). Dont know if the school still exist today. I lived near Lake Chad club.

Maiduguri then was a beautiful state(i believe it still should be), i remember going to Leventis supermarket and swimming at Mai Deribai hotel. The state was filled with foreigners living their normal lives like every Nigerian.

Its a shame 90s children did not grow up to see how Nigeria was. We where almost there as a nation, before thieves and unpatriotic people destroyed this country.

Now, from North to South we are a shadow of a shadow of ourselves.

Worst vehicle is 2006 NISSAN FRONTIER

was with me for 6 horrible months until someone rear ended it.

second runner up; 2005 Honda Accord

3 gear box issues in a year. Used the car for 2 years.

The cars mentioned arent bad cars per say, but they gave me hell. An experience i wish on no other being.

Car Talk › Re: Why Is Lexus IS 250 Always A Write Off Whenever It's Involved In An Accident? by PAQ(m): 12:04pm On Apr 16, 2021
You already stated some reasons why you see alot of written off IS250's. i am sure you are talking of the second generation IS250 (2005 - 2015), be mindful that the car is a compact sedan with alot of power; a V6 with top speed of 230 kph (143 mph) and and 0 - 100km in 7.6 seconds (a little bit faster as the years go by). It has a perfect 5 star rating in terms of crash tests done by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic System Administration) so that rules out any structural defects.

The reasons why you see them in such accidents are because:

- Is250/ 350 target audience are young people unlike its big brother ES350
- its the first car to some of its owners
- Its a fast car compared to your average commute
- The owners are the out going type & single, unlike ES350 whos owners are the conservative type & mostly family people
- The drivers are usually drunk or on drugs (intoxicated)

Now when you have a combination of a single, intoxicated, inexperienced driver with no responsibilities behind a fast machine feeling untop of the world because he has some money, what do you expect apart from beta accident??
Car Talk › Re: Honda Civic 2021 Or Toyota Corolla 2021? by PAQ(m): 12:37pm On Apr 15, 2021
While i prefer the size and exterior of the 2021 Honda Civic, the interior of the 2021 Corolla is minimalist and much better... for me.

Both cars are an upgrade from their usual simple looks, especially the civic. But as for reliability, Corolla still has it, there are more complaints on the CVT in the Civic as compared to whats on the Corolla. But still both cars are solid.

At N180k its way overpriced for a phone with;
Plastic back huh
720G processor huh
25watt charging huh

Last years Mi Note 10lite (my current phone) bought last year for about N150k (not sure whst it costs now) has better specs;
All gorilla glass design on metal frame grin
Curved amoled grin
730G processor grin
30watt charging grin
Infra red remote control grin grin
Sony imx camera grin grin

The only plus Sammy has over the MiNote 10lite is water proofing. Who takes their phones for a swim??

Mine have foglights sha and open roof grin
You have the Better option. I wish mine came with open roof. It seems the only thing we agree on is road noise. My sound system is solid, maybe the American owner put better speakers. To avoid messing up my bumper, i went for taller tires which helped alot. My gear changes quite well, i dont even feel it changing, which is an advantage of a CVT. Have you drained you tranny oil? It should be done first at 60k mileage so that the gears last. I just hand mine done, which was a headache finding the right mechanic. Did you have to make any repairs or change the gearbox? I hear they are really pricey.

I have never owned a luxury car, i can understand your dislike for the daily commute. If i had owned a 2014 Camry, i dont think a Corolla will ever please me, talk more of a Luxury Vehicle.
Car Talk › Re: Price Of 2014 Toyota Corolla by PAQ(m): 12:45am On Apr 11, 2021
Pls be also mindful that Corollas have two different looks. The Canadian/USA Spec (shown above) & the Asian/European/SouthAfrican spec (commonly used by Govt & private organisations), they have same interior but totally different exterior, they dont come with some standard equipments like US spec, they have some slight mechanical differences and they just arent built as sturdy as the US spec.

I have also noticed this difference over the other generations.

Very fragile and boring.
But fuel economy is good, parts are expensive too as na new motor.
I own the LE version too.
Its boring to drive because its a 1.8litre car, you would have gone for a 2.0l engine or better still a v6. Haba you bought a Corolla, what were you expecting. You chose fuel economy over engine power, with todays constant rise in fuel price that power will only be taking you quicker to the filling station more often.... and maybe your ATM grin

For the fragile aspect, hmmm. E be like say na SUV you been dey drive before this car. This car will take a beating but with the current aesthetics, it wouldnt look nice.

olufemi26:
@PAQ I'm thinking of getting a 2014 corolla too. Please what is your general opinion about the car?
Not a bad car. Better than my previous Corolla (2012 Le) both in looks and performance, also better Mpg.

The interior is premium looking on the LE with the backup camera but better on the S, especially if you go for the leather seats and open roof option.

The CVT is snappier than the 4speed automatic transmission on previous model. But needs more care, transmission oil change is expensive.

Bluetooth connects flawlessly from my Android phone, it loads your contacts and reads out messages, just be careful when you have other occupants in the ride. I dont know how iphone fares.

Road noise is quite noticeable though, i am not sure if its my large tires (205/65R16). I needed good ground clearance cos with stock tires the car is quite low.

The headlights are a beauty, both night and day.

There are other options for the money, but if you like the car, go for it. I have no regrets

Jelani Aliyu is a name that carries a lot of respect internationally in the automotive design industry. He is from Sokoto state and one of a kind in the Northern part of our country. The man no be quota system intelligence o. grin
Jelani Aliyu retired from GM as a senior automative designer. His creation is the Chevrolet Volt; Americas first and bestselling plug-in hybrid car.

Its only natural for him to bring a project like this here. Dont be surprised that he is laying the grounds to launch Nigerias first indigenous electric vehicle.

Be it North, South, East & West we have alot to offer if only we can keep our religious & tribalistic sentiments in our bedrooms.

But as i said before; Nairalanders dont like to read!
Car Talk › Re: First Solar Powered Car Charging Station Is Up In Sokoto by PAQ(m): 12:50am On Apr 09, 2021
Nairalanders dont like reading, they just prefer pictures of big ikebe. That is why things like XYZ is twerking will make front page!

I remember when Hyundai Kona was launched in Lagos as first locally assembled electric vehicle, na so e-rats made a mockery of it because of our epileptic power supply, forgetting that there are high brow areas cut across the country that enjoy 24/7 stable electricity. I wish this charging station can be made across all the 36 states, it will shock some people at the amount of EVs that will flock our roads.

A very welcome development from the north, this is the kind of healthy competition we need in terms of development. Not the current unhealthy tribalistic &
religious competition we currently have.
Car Talk › Re: Price Of 2014 Toyota Corolla by PAQ(m): 12:01am On Apr 08, 2021
What you posted is the look of a 2014-2016 Corolla CE or LE.

The CE is a cheaper package; doesnt come with a CVT (Continuous Valve Transmission) but a 5 speed AT (Automatic Transmission) or MT (Manual Transmission). No fog lights, no alloy wheels, no reverse camera or entune radio and no steering controls or automatic climate controls.

You may get it for N4.5 or less depending on how clean.

The LE is is an upgraded version that comes with some or all of the above mentioned features. Depending on the package, from LE, S & Eco Plus specs there are different features present and/ or missing.

For the LE, S & Eco Plus you may get it for N4.5 - 5.5. you may still get it for less, it all depends on its condition and the sellers need for cash.

I own an LE, exactly like what you posted. I bought mine last year, so the price will differ alot.
Car Talk › Re: How Good Is Peugeot 206? by PAQ(m): 3:13pm On Apr 06, 2021
206 is a very good car for inter city commuting. Its 1.4liter engine and light body is great on fuel economy plus parts are readily available and reasonably priced.

The car is perfect for young bachelors/spinsters.

I remember travelling from Lagos to Ekiti in 2007, the road was good so i got it to 120km. The car is really light. When a bigger car overtakes, you wil feel it, when a truck overtakes the car shakes like being pushed.

Your dog is good, but she doesnt look her best due to many factors that probably affected her growth. Factors like;

Poor quality feeding: Boerboels need alot of protein to sustain their muscle mass, not too much calcium because they are already big boned, moderate carbohydrates because they are prone to being over weight.

Early pregnancy: most female dogs you see look stunted in their growth because the owners were in a hurry to cash out and didnt allow the dog to fully mature before pregnancy. Large dogs take 2yrs to fully mature, one year for the height the next year to fill out in body mass. Most Nigerians start breeding on first heat which comes between 10-12months of age.

Exercise; Boerboels are muscular dogs and need to be active to maintain that muscle mass through long walks or enough space to run.

Through research i have noticed that Boerboels come in different head shapes, even pure breeds in South Africa. Some have slightly longer snout and look like a grey hound while others have shorter snouts and look like a bull mastiff. A Boerboel is a product of many dogs which include; bull mastiff, grey hound, bull dog etc.

Bottom line, dont listen to people, feed her well and love her. You will be surprised on how she will change. When i got my girl, at three months she looked quite unlike a boerboel, see her now at 11 months! When i go for walks she receives compliments from passersby. That alone tells me all i need to know.
